The SCMaglev and railway park was better than expected and we enjoyed it longer than I thought we would. Went on a rainy day which worked out well. There was amazing exhibits that taught the physics of magnetic levitation, steam engine mechanics, the evolution of train technology in Japan as well as the evolution of JNR to JR as we know it now.

Its a great place to visit with family and friends. If you like to know the history of japanese trains, you must come here. The price for adults is 1000 JPY. There are some restuarants/ souvenir shop inside the premises. I specially liked the Shinkansen history and the evolution of the trains. There are also places for kids to enjoy like making model trains/tracks. They allow to visit the inside of some of the trains. Great museum 5/5

First: there’s no dedicated parking so park across the street at the furniture store and follow the signs as you walk (you’ll pass by actual trash cans if you’re carrying trash). Second: tickets are cash only (1,000 for adults and 300-500 for kids). Third: not great for strollers as you can’t bring them inside the trains. We had an awesome visit here and enjoyed the displays and the history. You can board at least ten different trains from various eras and see many more full-size cars from the history of rail. From the first version of the Shin, to maglev prototypes, to old steam-powered sleeper cars, there is a huge assortment of trains to explore here.We had no wait getting into the museum but tickets for the “shin operator” and “locomotive operator” experiences were sold out.Fun location for families, train enthusiasts, and photographers.

SCMaglev Railway Park in Nagoya is a great place to learn about the latest maglev technology and get close to many high-speed trains, including the very first Shinkansen from 1964. Great to see so much pride for Japanese technology at SCMAGLEV and Railway Park in Nagoya. It is an excellent place to visit, not just for the Shinkansen history and maglev future but has so many old rolling stock from years past that you can get up close and enjoy what it must have been like to travel in.

The SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, Nagoya, Aichi, JapanA wonderful museum showcasing some of Japans rich railway history. The experience begins from the moment you walk in the door and purchase your entry ticket - from a railway ticket vending machine! After passing through a set of barrier gates (exactly like those you will find at a commuter railway station!), you enter the Hall of Speed. Three incredible railway locomotives that hold speed records are showcased in this hall. Even if you are not fluent in Japanese, there is enough signage and information in English to learn more about these machines, and the speed records they hold. The main exhibition hall is behind the Hall of Speed, and this is where the bulk of the displays are. A wide variety of rolling stock is preserved in here - early-model Shinkansen units, locomotives, maintenance-of-way equipment (check out the track clearance carriage!), and passenger carriages. There is a very extensive model railway display which features a light and sound show that cycles through a "day and night". Be sure to make time to see this!A gift shop and cafe is located on site also. You can catch a train to the museum - take a train on the Aonami line to Kinjofuto station (this is the end of the line). The SCMAGLEV and Railway Park is a definite "MUST VISIT" for railway enthusiasts!

I could say it was the best railway museum I’ve ever been. The kids will enjoy and having so much fun exploring various type of trains. Recommend the kid’s play room on the 2nd floor which they can play with the set of railways toy for 1 hour. The simulator rides was really cool! There was no parking on site so I parked my car at Dome furniture (2 hours free of charges).

The history of Japan Railways. Before I was very curious how JapAn manage to be in the leads for railways. And in one place they explain it all. From the beginning until to this age of bullet trains exist. I like also how they sum up and collect all the different type of train and display in one place. How I wish my country was like this. Very convenient and efficient. Kudos to JapAn government for doing this kind of memorabilia and preserving the history.

They have English!!! I love trains. This the the third major train museum Ive been to in Japan. The Kyoto one is probably "better" but has ZERO English. This place had English on almost everything, so obviously if you dont read fluenty in Japanese which I sure cant, this is the better musesm. You can spend a good 1/3 to 1/2 a day here.

I went here with a friend visiting from America, and I was impressed. We both thought it would be a quick trip through, but we ended up spending nearly the whole day here looking at trains. You can go inside some of the retired train cars (most of them, really), there are multiple exhibits on various aspects of JR trains and bullet trains, a whole room of model trains that run twice an hour, and they even had an English version of their ride experience that the lady offered to run for us. Lots of information, tons of trains and model trains, and there’s even a small cafe where you can buy ekiben themed foods. You can easily spend a whole day here if you like trains or history.

I have never see anything quiet like it. Even if your not a train buff it’s simply awesome and well worth a visit. The Kids loved it as well !

My sister and I both loved this place! It was well worth the travel to get there (we took the Shinkansen from Osaka to Nagoya in order to visit.)The trains are of course super cool to see! But the thing that impressed us the most was the educational side of the park. Its interesting and reading all the signs with the stats on each train is really fun.If you’re a train fanatic then this is a MUST visit. If you’re interested in them even just a little and have the time to spare, then we both recommend adding this to the itinerary!

It is a heaven for train lovers! They have a lot of different shinkansen on display, you can even enter the cabin on most of them, a variety of some old and latest train including experimental maglev trains also on display. There are also train simulator for both shinkansen as well as regular commuter trains available at a very fair price. Kids friendly and adult will have a very fun time here as well! Highly recommended!

Wonderful experience, fully recommended for all ages and the whole family. Get in early as it will take some time to get through the whole exhibit. Audio guides available in multiple languages, mine ran out if battery right towards the end of the day but otherwise made for a great guide. Sadly, Id day only about 70% of the material is translated to English but still makes for a great experience nonetheless.

I have not enough good words for this train museum! The exhibit of full size real life Japanese trains from the early models to todays Maglev (first commercial service in 2027is extensive and interesting. Its possible to step inside many models. They have a "diorama", a miniature model of Nagoya station and surroundings with miniature trains thats just mesmerizing. A gem. Also dont miss the short (five minutesmovie about the Maglev test, as it provides a really good look and feel of what its going to be like traveling at 500 km/h

Visiting the railway park was so much fun! Ive seen a documentary about it on NHK World and I just had to visit it (cause Im a big train nerdand it was even better than expected. One minus though; most descriptions and explanations only come in Japanese, so definitely get an audio guide if you cant read Japanese (the audio guides are free). Entry is ¥1000 for an adult, which is absolutely fine. Learning about Japanese train history was so much fun.

Obviously its in Japanese but there is English available which is a bonus. Even the simulator was in English to help understand what was going on. Spent roughly 2 hours there.

This is a must visit for any train buff. They have a very nice selection of rolling stock. The hall with the 3 generations of high speed trains is amazing specially when you view it from the balcony. Remember to drop your ticket for the lottery to win a turn on the Shinkansen simulator. Nice little cafe which has bento boxes. Very easy to get to although the last train is not included on the JR pass.

Excellent museum of the trains, when you walk in from the entrance, youll see the 3 awesome trains with a wow factor. IPad is optional though 2nd floor exhibits are in Japanese, you can walk into the carriage to have a look how its designed and they have a breakdown on their train mechanism, how they do maintenance. Overall is a good visit, probably takes half a day of you walk through and read everything thoroughly.

As a mother of a train-enthusiast, we come to this museum every chance we get. Easy to access from Kinjo-futo station via the Aonami Line. For a small fee you can try out the train simulation which allows you to experience what its like to be a driver of a JR commuter train. By lottery, you can experience driving a shinkansen (bullet trainand train conductor (the person in charge of opening and closing the door). There are lots of hands-on demonstrations of workings of a shinkansen. Theres also a playroom for kids under the age of 6. My only complaint is the cafe. They serve cold bentos, just like what youd purchase onboard the Tokaido Shinkansen. You can, however bring your own food.
