Pretty cool to see the old houses and tools used in this village. Also has staff to help explain things.

Wonderful place! The volunteers are so friendly and nice. I felt like I had been transported back in time. There is detailed information in Japanese and English about all of the homes and the families that resided in them.

A park of Japanese traditional houses divided per region, inside a huge park called Ikuta Ryokuchi. The entrance fee is 500 yen for adult. The area is divided per region, and we can see inside of the houses. Have English translations of what room it is. Depends on the region, the words used to describe the same room like kitchen, are different. You may find one place call a kitchen as something while another place will call kitchen something else, which is fun.If you want to visit this place, I recommend to wear a comfortable shoes because of the location is totally set like the old days, many slopes and just dirt. Also the area of Kabuki stage is especially beautiful in sakura season because it is surrounded by sakura trees. Imagine watching a play and sakura petals are falling!

Great park with lots to see and learn about edo style Kominkas. Personally would like to have a home these. In the evening this time of year they have projection mapping lighting in the evenings but if you can’t make the evening show you could do like I did and enjoy exploring the park during the day. Day viewing is open til 5pm at a cost of ¥500. Unfortunately your day ticket won’t allow you to stay for the evening projection mapping but you can always return the same evening or another for an additional ¥1000. Tickets can be purchased at the gate advanced purchase not necessary.

Must visit location, it is similar to shirakawago or any other Gassho Houses. The entry ticket is 500yen but if you have any target point card then it will be 400yen.I used Waon point card if you are wondering.First I thought there are only few houses but after entering only I came to know that there are more than 20houses which are very artistic and traditional.People will definitely love how the Japanese led their life during Meiji Era.This is must visit tourist spot In Kawasaki plus it has additional science museum and wonderful park.

Highly recommend this place to everyone who’s interested at traditional housings of Japan. The staffs in this open air museum are also incredibly friendly and helpful. A nice lady told me they actually have the houses from other regions of Japan dissembled, shipped here and then reassembled them at the location. The museum gathered old housings from many regions of Japan but the most famous, and also my personal favorite are the ones from the Shirakawa Go region. It almost feels like you are walking in a fairly tale when you are walking among those houses. The ticket is 500 yen, and there are both parking lots for cars and motorcycles.

Beautiful museum and great place to understand Japanese folk history. It’s also nice to visit with children!!We spent 3 hours, including a visit to the nice Soba restaurant within premises. In non covid times, there are also many volunteers around, showing historic handiwork and firing all cooking fires in the old houses.

One of the most interesting places to visit in Kawasaki. It features many homes relocated from across Japan and the family history or business history of each one. The museum also has new exhibits regularly. It is a nice day hike and features a lot of nature and scenic views. All ages are welcome to visit though it is a good idea to keep an eye on little ones. The entrance fee is quite low and you can also buy an annual pass.

It was a good weather to take a walk today. I always have fun visiting old houses. It is amazing how they have preserved these farm houses, with the structure and the items used ages ago remain intact. I learned a lot on this open-air museum, how they built the roofs for fireproof, soundproof and protected from the rain. These houses have shown how the farmers have lived before, how they cook their meals, how they work on weaving, and the tools they use in farming. It was also nice to have seen some autumn leaves on this exploration.

Visited 2018/May/19. Finally trying to arrange my photo album from MacBook. This is one of the best garden I have visited near and within Tokyo. I went along myself so cannot take any selfie, but got a lots of good pano shots, after showing my friends, they really want to go as well. I probably will visit again next time when I go Tokyo, want to see how it look like in winter time. This garden also offer a mini stamps games to help children to remember what’s the function each house offer. Pretty impressive.

Wonderful museum with very nice staff! The houses are in wonderful conditions and the FREE audio guide app in English is a perfect companion for the tour of the 23 buildings! The admission is, for that content quality and quantity, unbelievably cheap, especially if you consider the very good audio guide for free!Cannot recommend it enough!

Well preserved old folk houses. These houses are from different prefectures and wards throughout Japan, were dismantled and relocated to this site. I just love the idea of keeping the natural surrounding of the area.

This is a nice place with the story of old Japanese homes. A nice place to visit to see and feel the old Japanese architecture. The place is very big and takes around 3hrs to 4hrs to explore properly. You can also observe the activities related to old art and craft and can also participate in some workshops. The place is full of small hills with different designs of old houses. It is an interesting place for kids also to understand the history and ancient culture.

A nice escape from the concrete and modernity of Tokyo. This open air museum shows how home life was for the majority of the Japanese population in the countryside during the Edo period. It makes for a very pleasant walk on a sunny day. Its also a good place for kids.

This is easily one of our favorite places we’ve visited. We wanted to get out of the city, since we live in Yokohama, and this was a perfect choice. The area is beautiful, with old traditional homes nestled into a small wooded valley. The cafe near the main entrance is a must—the ambiance is lovely, and the drinks/desserts are delicious. The park in general is a large area with some stairs, so wear comfy shoes. I appreciated that the signs include English, and the staff were very informative and friendly. When we went they had hearth fires going in a few of the houses and it smelled amazing. We will definitely return! For 500 yen/person, it’s a great way to spend a quiet day if you enjoy history, architecture or nature.

Beautiful preserved historical homes from different regions of Japan set in a large park. All the volunteers are so kind and even gave us a mini tour of one of the houses. You can also download an audio guide for free from the App Store that gives some history on each house.

The history highlight of my trip. Beautifully preserved. Lots of freedom to go in and around the buildings. Some of the stoves must be used occasionally because even the smell of fire is still authentically present. Wonderful staff and volunteers give mini guides at some of the buildings. I cant believe its only 500 yen. Bring a flashlight to light up some of the darker corners of the buildings. Best museum in japan that Ive seen.

One of the best open air museums in Tokyo - huge garden with over 30 house. Great work and support from the volunteer guides!! Speak japanese and english with us. Museum provide stunning english (and a few next languagesguide mobile application to cover all your basic questions about buildings. Spring and autumn stunning colors ( summer nice, but hot need to say). Refreshment available. Hand made souvenirs incl. indigo fabrics. My favorite museum - went this year a few times. Barriers - yes, but it is better now. Partly made to easier handicapped people entrance. Ask before you go. If you come in 5 people group - you can ask guided tour.

Fascinating ‘living’ museum of traditional Japanese life and architecture set in a beautiful park that is well worth the trip from all the mainstream sights of Tokyo. It’s a bit of a trek to get to but worth it. Pack or buy a lunch to bring with you as there is no catering at the park. And don’t feel awkward about talking t the many English speaking volunteer guides, as they are only too happy to explain anything and full of interesting stories. After you finish and come out of the west exit at the top of the hill, head to the observation deck for a superb view over Tokyo, Kawasaki and Yokohama before making your way back down the hill and home.

One of the best attractions Ive been to in Japan after over a year. Everyone from the adults to the preschooler had a blast. And the value for money is phenomenal. The ladies at the indigo dye workshop were wonderful. Great place to spend a day. Please know that the soba shop is closed for work for a year and a half beginning in June 2018.

I really enjoyed visiting this place. There are a lot of old buildings from all over Japan. You can see old life-style and sometimes even try it. There are volunteers (usually older peoplewho show how to make traditional tools and stuff. I visited on a cold rainy day but still it was nice. See the pictures. It is possible to buy 1year ticket for ¥1000 (usual fee is ¥500and visit as many times as you want. Very good place to spend a free time.
