We stopped for dinner after weekend of shows in Shipshewana before returning home to Ohio, my husband and I and my sister and husband. Salad was bare minimum and 2 soup selection on buffet. Nothing else. Definitely understaffed, but how do you rate this? Food was terrible, overcooked or just nothing youd ever order again. We all said mark this off our list. Its not fair to ones working hard to rate poor, however, we should also not give false ratings based on this. Im just not sure, but chose the facts..
Stark but it is in Amish country after all. Not many good breakfast restaurants in Shopshewana. Mostly bakeries for coffee and pastries.
Once again we were visiting we had no idea where we were going to eat. We were so glad we tried 5/20. Everything was wonderful, food, waitress and price.
You need to change you hours if you’re not going to be open We have stopped 2 times when your sign and website says you’re open and you’re not!!!!
Very delicious food, but no breakfast buffet at 11:30, although the menu said until noon. The service was great, but we did have to wait to be seated.
This place use to be great. But today was awful. Food cold, waitress didnt care. I asked for coffee 3 times before she finally brought it.
Great food!!! Salad bar was so fresh and had so many choices 😋
Great Amish cooking and a convenient location off of 5 & US20. We will for sure be back
Its been a few years since Ive been to this place but I know this is an awesome restaurant.
Serious staff problems! There were two waitresses serving as cashier, hostess, waitresses, and bussing tables. They were so low on staff that they were only offering the buffet as an ordering option. The buffet in salad bar was well attended to.
The food was exceptional. Linda, our server, was exceptional. Good job, everyone!
Small buffet but very good. Salad bar was so clean and had fresh options. First time here but will be back soon!
Great food and great, fast service in large diner atmosphere. Came for lunch. They had a delicious buffet as well as menu options. Fried chicken is out of this world. Would eat here again.
The fried chicken was so good!! The buffet was overpriced for no more than they had on it.
Food was good , a little pricey at $18.00 and only have one meat on buffet table..Probably will not eat there again.
They had no meals available to purchase, the only thing you could do was the buffet. What was on there was fine but there wasnt much choice as far as meats go. You had meatloaf or chicken and thats it.
Great food. Small but quaint. Very nice staff.
Couldnt be any better from salad to best fried chicken ever to desert & friendly service. Simply scrumptious
Food was good, but didnt know they switched to buffet only.
A friend and I ate here for an evening meal. I had the whole buffet. There wasnt a lot of choices, but all was good. The salad bar was nice. The fried chicken was also very good.
Staff was pleasant and quick. However they only offered the buffet and it had little choice and was overpriced.
Chicken was good but wont eat there again. Not worth the high price they charge for buffet. That was the only option.
The food was excellent and the waitresses were very attentive. The ladies room was clean and well maintained. You cant ask for much more.
Always a nice place to have a meal. Best fried chicken in Northern Indiana. When I drove semi truck it was often hard to get a parking spot, but I am retired now so no worries still stop there for a great meal and friendly service.
We had the chicken dinner and everything was good including the service. But had to wait awhile for a table, very small and congested feeling inside. Didn’t get the buffet because it didn’t look that great, especially for the price point.
Nice friendly place good food friendly helpful staff - it was an all you can eat buffet only menu for this day but it was very reasonable - $17 and $12 for salad and soup all you can eat ... Definitely a place to check out ... :)
Great food and service. Buffet style! Price was great value for what was available.
Amazing restaurant with all you can eat. A+, would recommend to anyone
The food all looked great, smelled wonderful!we were there for a cup of coffee and a scoop, and I do mean a scoop of ice cream.
Usually go to the blue gate, but ended up wanting to try something different. Their lunch Buffay was definitely worth stopping in for. Wish we would’ve chosen this place sooner really missed out on a gem.
Super busy a 15 minute wait a popular place to eat. Parking at door, family oriented. A food was perfectly cooked
Awesome food! Our waitress was very nice. The other employee that took my money was great, too! Id go back again.
Food was cold. Bacon wasnt cooked properly. Very dissatisfied. Will not be going back.
Excellent food, good service, great value. The clear star here is the fried chicken! Second place is the all you can eat fish Fridays! The batter is light and very well seasoned. The buffet is an excellent choice here. Plenty of options including salad bar and desserts! I have liked everything I have tried here. The staff is polite and attentive, and the prices are good for the portions you get.The pies are awesome as well, for a desert person they may be the actual star. One thing to note; you only get two refills with your drink order. Also, there is an attached ice cream shop! And for you campers, there is an automated ice vending machine next door!
Amazing! Was busy, so I was expecting for a long wait (especially since we had a table of 5), but in around 10-15 minutes our food was out. I was a little suspicious if our food wasnt good, but I took a bite of my BLT, and all my worries about the food were proved wrong. The fries and applesauce were what my table got, and they were both delicious. Definitely come here if you need to eat and are able to sit down for 45-60 minutes.
We ate at the restaurant just before they closed for the day. Upon getting back to my hotel I noticed that my glasses were missing. I called the restaurant which at that time was closed. The whole staff checked near our table and found nothing. They called me back some 15 minutes later after they had combed the parking lot and found my glasses. They stayed at the restaurant late allowing me to go and retrieve my glasses. Honesty and integrity of this caliber is rare in this world. I am so impressed by this team of caring individuals. May God bless them richly!
Very clean restaurant. Food was good, service was excellent.
Excellent food it was incredible definitely the meatloaf tasted like I grew up with. Went back a second time and I had pork chops and it was incredible and the pies are just as good Ive been here several more times and Ive gotten the buffet and they have a wide selection of meat vegetables and their pies are delicious
My wife and I stopped in (5/19/22for dinner and were glad to see the buffet was back again. The place wasnt that crowded, so we were seated right away. When I looked over the buffet it had the usual choices: chicken (broasted?green beans, mashed potatoes, dressing, what looked like hush puppies, and two kinds of gravy. There was no meatloaf, mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes, or any of the other choices I remember in the past.At first, I thought the gravy was chocolate pudding. I couldnt imagine why anyone would put pudding by the potatoes. But after making the discovery it was gravy, I decided to try putting it over the mashed potatoes. It took some finesse to do since it didnt flow like typical gravy.Next was a scoop of "dressing", some green beans that looked like they had undercooked onion bits and ground meat (bacon bits?mixed in, and a piece of what looked like fried chicken. After eating what I could tolerate, it became quickly apparent that the quality of the food had deteriorated significantly since our last buffet visit a year ago. The "dressing" was absolutely bland and horribly inedible. The gravy might as well have been pudding. The mashed potatoes were barely adequate, minus the hint of cardboard aftertaste, and the chicken was notably dry instead of the succulent, tender and juicy chicken 5&20 was noted for.We liked this restaurant a lot in the past -- we really did! But we are saddened today by its obvious decline in quality. When we paid our bill, we asked the young woman if there were any changes in the staff, mainly the chef. She said yes, they changed the chef. PLEASE... let us know when you change your chef again -- back to the one you used to have! Thanks!
I ate here today , first time in awhile. Very disappointed in the changes. The size of fish is so skinny. Almost all breading. Not worth 2 little pieces of skinny fish and a side for well over 11 dollars. Also limit on refills now of beverage. So Almost 3 dollars, glass is so full of ice theres not much beverage even in the glass! Food is good/tastey. To add the salad bar onto the meal is also about 11 dollars and theres just regular ice berg lettuce, no greens! So its ok, but not like it use to be.
Given a one star is to much. We stopped in today shortly before 2, there was a wait which was fine. Finally get seated, waitress took drink & food order. Waited 30 mins for a BLT & Tenderloin sandwich & 2 orders of fries. The Tenderloin was way over cooked, so dry & fries were cold. I told our waitress, she said she can get us another one that was a NO, then she says "they usually do pretty good". She took the Tenderloin & a order of fries off the check. This is the 2nd time weve had bad food there & it is definitely the LAST time we eat there. Whoever was in charge never came to talk to us.. HORRIBLE PLACE!!
This restaurant has always been a 5 star from me and my family. This trip however, i was unhappy with the fact that it was buffet only. As someone with dietary restrictions, it was hard to justify buffet price for the amount that I can eat. I dont know if it is seasonal, time of day or pandemic related. The food was amazing(as always). The service was great(as always). The limited options was less than stellar for me.
This used to be my place to eat when I came to shipshy. No longer. No salad bar with a meal? What is that? Almost $3 for a soft drink and you get 1 refill. And its not like you get a great big glass. Good was good. Service was good. Management is lacking.
My husband I had lunch here last week. Very very good food. I had chicken salad and it really did have great flavor. My husband had a burger. Very good flavor. Fries were perfect. Didnt have to wait at all and it was 11:30. We will be back and we live in Michigan...
This was by far THE BEST restaurant in Shipshewana, Indiana with home cooked Amish food! My family and I ate here twice while on vacation. You must try their fried chicken, promise you will not be disappointed! We are from Concord, N.C. and I would drive back just for this restaurant’s quality food, great service, and friendly staff! Thank you all at the 5/20 Country Kitchen for outstanding service, 5 stars!
Unfortunately I was disappointed in this location. We got there on a weekday at in the afternoon and we had to wait to be seated which is fine , but the waiting area had no fans or AC going to keep anyone comfortable. When we were finally seated , it took over 10 min before anyone even took a drink order or said a word to us. Upon ordering sandwiches, we discovered that not a thing comes with a sandwich or burger, all side dishes are extra, so that was surprising. We waited another 20 min to get the few things ordered and again didnt see the waitress till she dropped off the check. Nobody to ask is we needed refills on our drinks or anything else . I would absolutely not go here again. Kinda standard practice to offer a side dish with a sandwich or burger, my husbands fish sandwich literally had a bun and the fish ...not a thing else, it was lucky he requested tarter sauce when he ordered it or plain as day it would have been. Didnt feel friendly and overpriced for how they served the meal...go to a local buffet and pay a little more ..youll get a great meal at a fair price. A smile and quick ask from a waitstaff goes a long way...just sayin..
The food was delicious they are a warm environment and staff was excellent.pictutes of buffet food prices reasonable luv it.
Holy cow the rhubarb pie was amazing! (The pecan pie was too!Pretty sure they are both home made. I will definitely be back for more in the future. It was crowded and had about 20 minutes to wait before seated but food was well worth it. I got the roast beef Manhattan (something like that- special on top of menu-bread with sliced roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy).Only downside was the slices for roast beef was hard to cut. Would have been better if given a side plate to cut it.Also the waitress was awesome. She was polite, energetic and on top of things.
We stopped here for lunch on a multi state road trip. Fantastic food and service! The Dutch apple pie was a delicious ending to our chicken dinner. They also have ample parking for large vehicles/RVs!
The best food I have had in a while. Highly reccommed.. They have parking for bug rigs.
