1919 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98101, USA, King County
I’ve been to this location a few times and staffs are usually very helpful. However, the location seems to be understaffed which leads to slower lead time. Would recommend arriving with buffer time and be ready to wait for a while.
I rented a car in Seattle for delivery to Vancouver for a staggering $876.However, upon delivery, I received an invoice for $1,140, which is absurd, and without any explanation. I even thought the amount charged was in Canadian dollars, but it wasnt.Watch out for that mousetrap called Avis.
I cant complain. I was there early, and only had to wait for a few minutes whilst the previous renter departed. However, there was only one worker and there were at least three groups arrived after me. Stars lost are because my car was delivered without fuel on a full-to-full rental (this was rectified on-site), and there was a stone chip in the windshield almost directly in my line of sight.
I was going to be about 10 minutes late to pick up my rental and the Seattle airport location refused to hold my vehicle, even though I called a day in advance about the flight delay I said I would pay the day that I missed. I had to take an Uber ($70to the downtown location and get a car from there. Way out of my way and caused me to be late for a client meeting. We have a corporate account with Avis, not a good way to treat repeat customers. I found out after the fact that the reason they did this was so they could re-rent the vehicle at 7-8 times the rate due to demand created by the Monday night NFL game in Seattle.
I highly recommend this in-city rental location. It will remind you of what customer service used to feel like.
Extremely slow service due to understaffing. Too bad to see that reservations are just not at all prepared upfront - which causes waiting times of over 90 minutes..
We get exceptional service and support from our local Avis agent at 1011 Pike St., Seattle, We use this location frequently. The staff has always addressed our needs promptly, efficiently and with care and courtesy. They are the reason we rent from Avis exclusively.
The staff there are doing their job. Clearly management doesn’t give a hoot about this location. The wait time and the whole process is horrible. I’ll never come back to this location. Again can’t blame the on-site staff. Clearly not enough people and no care from management
Expect long wait times, we waited around 1 hour and 40 minutes before getting our car. Additionally, they got the bill wrong and added the most expensive additional service (damage/loss waiver feewithout my consent.
Tl;dr: Poor communications, unhelpful/disinterested management, and when things go wrong that are their fault, it’s used as an opportunity to charge the customer money instead of offering a sane solution. Spend your time waiting in more fruitful lines if you can.Very long wait with only one staff member (who was very courteous and meticulous so no complaints about Reggie — he did his best to help everyone in a timely way with extremely limited resources). However, the key battery needed to be replaced and instead of being able to do a simple replacement, I was asked to wait for a call from the store manager that never came and when I went back into check, was told by the entirely disinterested manager that there was nothing they could do except replace the whole car. They then offered me a much smaller vehicle than I booked and paid for AND wanted to charge me for not refuelling when I had no indication from them that a return would be necessary. In the end I opted to replace the battery myself for a credit (I’ll believe that when it comes through). I understand that car rentals are tight right now so Avis can get away with this kind of bs but if you have a choice: AVOID.
I would give negative stars if it was possible. While returning the car the associate was super rude, he asked me for a contract and I handed over to him to which he asked if I had filled gas. I was trying to explain the situation and this guy just started talking to me rudely to which I asked him to return the keys and contract. This person literally throws the keys on the hood and walks away. I don’t know what triggered him. I complained about this to the front desk lady and she tried to pin this back on me.
I cant express enough gratitude to Avis staff for helping with the rental on 07/20/22. Upon arriving to Seattle, I got a last minute car cancellation through Turo (terrible unreliable app!). Called multiple rental places, everything was sold out. Luckily, Avis had the last available vehicle. The rental process went very smoothly and no hidden fees were charged. The staff there is professional and hardworking, many have to stay late. They all deserve a bonus/raise after this crazy summer! Thank you for rescuing my trip. I highly recommend this location.
Tip: Arrive early, as they may need to go and get your rental from somewhere else.Pros: Convenient location; got a brand-new (~15 miles on the clockcar which worked practically perfectly; very relaxed and friendly guy who allowed us to use the toilet, recommended restaurants and parking, allowed us store our suitcases while we wandered around Seattle, and explained everything clearly; and no unexpected charges even a week after drop-off in Las Vegas.Cons: Office is a bit run down.
If you are picking up a car from the 1919 5th Avenue location - show up an hour early AT LEAST. The operation here is so slow - there’s only 1 person at the desk on the busiest weekend of the Seattle summer. No sense of urgency, lots of confusion, and overall a giant headache. They put us in danger of reaching camp sites after dark because of the poor service. Unprofessional and really wish I had rented from another agency.
Multiple attempts by Avis to overcharge. Original contract was for $536.34, and I also received "return record" stating charge was $536.34. More than $1,200 charged on credit card. Amazingly, false document was "created" by Avis showing an agreement that was totally manufactured. Look up Avis on Google regarding its recent history of complaints, including Better Business Bureau issues. I will never, never consider renting from Avis again. I cannot emphasize too much how bad my experience was. Buyer Beware!
Most inept operation I’ve seen in a long time. Not enough staff to accommodate the line. Took forever to get our car. Do yourself a favor and rent elsewhere!!!
Very happy with Avis. Avis gave us a last-minute, late-night, one-way rental from Philadelphia airport after American Airlines delayed our flight twice, stranded us in Philadelphia overnight with lost luggage, no place to sleep, and no flight available the next morning. Avis came to the rescue and got us home. Thank you, Avis!!!
Poorly operated. Long waiting time even if there is only ONE person ahead of you. Oh, the rep here is also rude.Take a look at the car we got. Oil changed due, dirt everywhere inside out. Clearly the last customer drove it to the Sahara desert and AVIS just too busy to even clean it.This is how bad this location is, or AVIS in general.
Long wait to find out they did not have the vehicle reserved. Apparently people were late returning vehicles that they were counting on to rent back out. After much delay and confusion we finally got the vehicle we were promised.
Cars not available on time. And they try to sell their liability insurance by making it sound like it is a requirement and asking for proof of liability insurance.
Wow! I just had the worst customer service experience in my life there! Staff was rude; they didnt have any cars while I had reserved it 2 weeks in advance!
0 stars! BY FAR THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!I had spoken to a agent at this location who was very rude, yelling at me, cut me off when I was trying to explain then hung up on my face twice! I called again and after asking for his name, he refused to give to me then hang up in my face. Now they are refusing to answer the phones at the desk. I have called this branch over 20 times and they still are purposely not answering the phone.I also dont get how Avis company has all these numbers to dial on their website but each one is disconnect. Again, i spent thousands of dollars for their services that I use consecutive each month and get treated this way. Its ridiculous!
The front desk person was very rude and she denied us the car because she was not trained well to use the system. She bluntly said they will not provide us the car for the long weekend.
I had a wonderful experience at the front desk. Unfortunately I was initially unable to locate the car so I ventured into the lower level to see if my rental was present there. A gentleman with a stout build started shouting at me. When I told him I was looking for a rental he kept on raising his voice. He then told me verbatim “Since you can’t hear me and can’t process what I say, let me walk you to the front desk”.I do want to emphasize my experience at front desk was great but this person ruined my morning.
Awful service. Waited almost 90 minutes to get our car, this is after they are working at full capacity. Spend an hour just to get the car key working. :(
Constantly disappointed by this rental service. My preferred membership is a waste I guess, I always have to 30mins to 1 hour before I get my car. Please improve the process atleast for ths customers who have preferred membership or booked in advance.
Unacceptably poor customer experience. The location is understaffed and, as a result, timeliness and customer service is generally not a high priority. Weve had to wait upwards of an hour and a half to get our car and the staff is often rude. The prices are very low but ultimately not worth it.Pros:- good price- central locationCons:- poor customer experience- very strict, aggressive policies- inconvenient hours
To a potential customer: Choose Hertz on 8th Ave, much better in every aspect. To Avis: This was by far my worst experience renting a car. The process was really slow -- I was in line for about 30min and got the car 40min past the scheduled pickup time, after getting there on time. The agent, Ellen, was incredibly rude and condescending. I declined Collision Damage Coverage so she got super upset. Its your agents job to inform the customer once(maybe in a nice way so they come back?that they should have the coverage -- but that belligerent lady wouldnt stop talking about it! Awful experience.
Usually a good location but unfortunately my experience has been tainted by a rude employee. There a sign on the door that clearly states "Retuning a car? Wait at the parking for someone to help you.". So I waited for 20 minutes, meanwhile the fat attendant - I dont know his name - was busy shuffling cars around. I assumed it was just a busy time. As he walks to the office he tells me "If youre not going to talk to me I wont help you.". Thanks for wasting my time, Ill just avoid this location from now on.
What a nightmare! Picked up our rental car from AVIS only to have it breakdown. Couldnt get through to anyone at AVIS, so we played an audible and called their Customer Service line. Only way we could reach a human being was by pressing #1 and answering as if we were looking to rent a vehicle. Even then we were disconnected THREE TIMES. Since this incident we have attempted to get a partial refund. Weve called 19 TIMES. 6 of these calls ended in disconnects. We were told a manager would call - that was a week ago and NO CALL. AVIS will take care of you ONLY UNTIL THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY THAN YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. We paid $816 for a rental, have no recourse for their irresponsible business practices and are left infuriated and taken advantage of. Learn from our mistakes.
It was $250 cheaper to rent downtown than at the airport, so I took the link train. Checking in there was a 30 minute wait. But rep was nice and helpful. Drop off was easy.
Terrible experience across multiple fronts. First of all, they had only one car for our booking (mini vaneven though we reached right in the morning. It was an old dodge grand caravan which didn’t even have car play or bluetooth, charging point was a bit broken too so we had to buy mobile holder to use our mobile for google map. While returning, they charged cleaning fee because my kid had spilled some cookies/snacks which they considered “excessive soilage”. I was never charged cleaning fee earlier and when I questioned that why small snacks are considered excessive, his response was “well, I decide that”. I would recommend going to some other place.Update: They have refunded the cleaning fee, hope other things will also improve to give a better customer experience.
If you have a problem with this Avis center, please call and find the store manager. She is really nice and very reasonable. We were overcharged more than $450 because we were late for 5 mins, but she removed it with just one call. Now we are really happy with what she has done for us. But basically it would be much better if we were not charged. But thank her so much!
Car was clean, however watch out for additional charges the management will attempt to put on your card once you get there. The qoute online was vastly different from what they charge you once you arrive to pickup the vehicle. Go to a different Avis if possible.
I started using their service as my employer recently partnered with Avis-Budget after their partnership with Enterprise ended. I have rented only twice with them so far and I can already see the degraded quality of service compared to Enterprise. The staff is not as courteous while dealing with their customers. One of them is pretty cold!I had returned a car yesterday and a staff member at the parking lot said that he could take care of the return paperwork for me and I was good to go. However, I did not receive any communication from them and therefore visited them again today to make sure if everything was taken care of. The same guy was in the office and told me pretty coldly that I never asked for a receipt. Before looking me up on the system, he asked me if I was a premium club member or something. While I was trying to recall, he said "yea looks like you have no clue so...". Then he asked me if I booked from Avis or Budget. How am I supposed to know if all their papers/banners mention Avis-Budget everywhere!!!. I said I was not sure and he just glared at me before searching in Avis and found my details. Could he not just look up my name in the system anyway??? The lady who handled my booking the other day was much more polite compared to this guy (though I would still rate Enterprise staff slightly better). They seem to rely on paper communication more than email receipts (unlike Enterprise), which puts me off as I need to keep their "paper receipts". If they somehow do not have my email on file (which I always provide while booking), why not just ask for it?? I will perhaps continue to use their service for some time, but only because I get good corporate deals through my employer (hence one extra star for now). I have booked from Enterprise several times before this and I never had such an experience.
Ive been renting long-term from Avis for over two years now solely because Brenton Holland has handled everything so professionally. Hes made it incredibly easy for me, and has been flexible to my requests throughout.
My car was not clean and had chips lying over here and there. During COVID-19 times one expects a basis level of cleanliness. However, my recent experience make me feel hesitant about my next reservation.
The car said low tire pressure when we rented but no one checked the car before us leaving the garage to make sure it was okay. Then, the tire became flat and we had to stop in the middle of the highway to replace the tire. We called roadside assistance but no one came to help. We had to spend our time replacing the tire and no one compensated us for our troubles. When we returned the car next day, we were charged fees for the tire even though it wasn’t our fault. We could’ve been injured seriously if we hadn’t caught the tire early on.
This location is fine - as long as you go with the expectation that it is a neighborhood location, and you do not expect the speed or the vehicle selection that an airport location would provide.Ive rented here 3 times in the last 4 months (I live 2 blocks away). For most of my visits, Ive only seen one person on staff, and she is awesome; efficient, friendly, and on top of things. My experiences have been fast (10-15 minutesand Ive always gotten the car I wanted.Id recommend getting there early; I dont know what "off hours" for car rental places are, but Ive had the best luck arriving around 9am. Its a small space (both the inside & the garage area), so I could see how it would be unpleasant to wait if there were a long line (particularly if you were waiting to return a car). Id also say - if your schedule is tight, it might be best to take the light rail to/from the airport, and take advantage of the larger Avis location there.
1. I booked compact car twice here and was given SUV once and truck one other time saying cars are not available. I was not even compensated anything additional for this inconvenience/issue with their system.2. There is a one hour wait time for picking up on 3rd of July as there was only one person working and she had to do everything (she was nice and helped in the best way she could)
Car was dirty when we received it. There were lighters and trash still in the car from the previous customer. There was strong smell of smoke in the vehicle and when I brought it to the attention of the lady in the front counter, all she did was write it down on a paper so I wouldnt get charged for smoke damage... Good, but what about the strong smell of cigarette smoke I have to deal with? Then, without asking, I was told I wouldnt be charged for 2 days if I brought the car back before or at the exact time I picked it up at. I did just that and guess what? Still got charged for 2 days even tho I only had the car for 24 hours. The guy told be "youre out of luck."Wont be going here again.Only reason, I did gave 2 stars, was that the car was comfortable (aside from the smelland the fact that one tank of gas goes a long way..
Waited in line for over 2 hours for a car we had already booked and reserved way in advance. It was freezing and the service was horrible. If your on any time limit all DO NOT use this company. Worst car rental company I’ve ever used and will never ever use again.
The staff try their best but processes here are not ideal. Waited 1 hour to pick up the car as there was a queue of 15 others. Overbooking led to them running out to cars to they had to upgrade and reassign and find vehicles which took time. No after hour returns meant I had to get up very early in the morning to get the car back. Waited another 30mins in line as there was only 1 person doing both pick ups and return.
Waited 2 hours to get to the rental car counter due to the long line. Only 2 people working the counter. 1 lady that was very quick and efficient, she got through 3-4 customers for every 1 customer this gentleman was helping. They upgraded us for free since they were out of the car we reserved. They get such a low rating due to the long wait, cramped space and lack of urgency from the gentleman.
Most car rental agencies deserve their lower rating but I have to say this Avis location was great. We rented a car for two days to travel outside of Seattle for a reasonable rate. The staff were extremely helpful and quickly processed our rental and got us in and out very fast so we could enjoy our vacation. Thanks for a great rental experience!
I did not have a pleasant experience at the 5th street location in Seattle. I had reserved a 12 passenger van weeks in advance, and when I arrived at the location they realized the van had not been requested to be dropped at this location. They said it would be about 30 minutes for the van to arrive from the airport, and it was dropped off about 1.5 hours later. Even after the van arrived, the assistants were running back and forth trying to help different people, but they were completely unorganized and seemed to have forgotten about the van. I was on the road about 45 min after the van arrived. This location seems to be very inefficient and unorganized. The assistant was never apologetic or willing to offer compensation for the reservation being late, and the two guys working the desk were so stressed from dealing with other peoples reservations (several of which were missing carsthat I didnt haggle with him. Once I finally signed the contract for the van, the assistant specifically told me to make sure that I didnt fill up the van on the way back to the airport because gas would be about $.50 cheaper if they filled it up. When I brought it back to SEATAC, the airport, the assistant there told me it would be $10 a gallon to fill up the tank. I explained to the assistant that I was told specifically NOT to fill the tank, and luckily at the airport they were able to refund the cost of the gas. Overall this location was very unorganized, as there were several other (upsetpatrons there waiting on reservations. I have never had this kind of issue with AVIS at an airport, but this location is not the place to go.
Staff was very friendly and helpful; however, service was a bit slow, only 2 people upfront on a holiday weekend, which I think slowed things down more than it should have been at 8am. Additionally, while the car had been cleaned and even shampooed, they missed a nice vomit stain on the ceiling and the "check engine" light was on when we left, which was a bit nerve wracking. We pointed out the vomit on the ceiling when we dropped it off at SEA and they just said "oh, thanks for telling us." Not really the over-the-top customer service I would have hoped for.
Didn’t have the minivan we reserved. That’s fine, we understand this happens all the time. However - Manager and second employee were incredibly rude, unapologetic and then obfuscated the matter after the regional mgr found us a van at a separate location (airportbecause she wanted the rental to get credited to her downtown location so her store didn’t have to credit the additional taxes incurred by picking up the car at the airport. Whatever you do, if you rent from Avis/budget - DON’T USE THIS LOCATION.
Worst car rental experience I have ever had. I would rate 0 star if I can. I cant express how rude the staff is. We originally booked a car in another Avis centre but we have to transfer to here because of bus delay. The original centre did not transfer our request and the staff here refused to handle our case. We wish to check the price differences if and the staff said "You are wasting my time. I am not gonna make it just for checking the price". We explained we are not trying to waste his time but he said "you are already doing it." I cant believe I m in Seattle 2017. If you are reading this comment. Think twice if you want to choose renting a car from this company.
This place is close to the pier and located downtown, but the wait here is ridiculous. Even in the preferred line I waited over 45 min with 3 people in front of me.
