The staff at Barnes gym are horrible, they find reasons to harass people, for days I have seen people come in and work out in whatever they want, then when a person who works out with my wife daily came in alone she was harassed about what she was wearing. High wasted leggings and a loose fitting tshirt that was waist length, she was harassed and told her shirt was too short, however when a woman wearing spaghetti straps and a load of cleavage come in nothing is said about that. So why is there a double standard. It says on thier website that all army personnel will wear pt uniforms no matter when they come to the gym. Fire the staff and replace them with people who are not useless.
Just get an off post gym membership if youre stationed at Ft. Huachuca. Barnes Field House is easily the worst and most run down gym facility Ive seen across 5 military installations, including a gym built in a tent overseas. The entire thing needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
Awesome. Cleaned has all the equipment I need for my workout. Staff personnel Friendly, courteous overall AWESOME!
Worst military gun Ive been to. Set up is horrible.
Both swiming pools indoor and out door are fantastic. Very Clean, life guards are helpful and friendly. Great job to all! 👍😊
Solid gym. It has everything you need, however, the equipment can be difficult to find because is divided into 5 to 8 rooms. Recommend doing a full walk through before starting your first session. It does have everything you need, is just a pain to find.
Vets wanting a place to work out at shouldnt go here. The active duty people that go here harass you. Newsflash gents, not everyone is in the military like you an being bossed around everyday for the most ridiculous reasons 🤣, they just want a quiet place to work out, retirees are just as bad there. Im posting this on other social media so my fellow vets know to stay away from here.
Used the pool... very nice, only 3 peeps there, water was good, bathroom and shower was clean... what a Great benefit, WTG ❤️
Great gym. Plenty of space and equipment to accomplish any type of workout.
Miss this place been coming here on and off for 10 years
Pictures dont do it justice its pretty good
Gym was SUPER busy when I went. Almost no machines open. All benches were taken. Will try again, but doesnt seem promising 🥲
Hot garbage. Bad hours, bad equipment, rude staff.
I used to like going to Barnes and I would like to give 5 stars but there are some issues that never really seem to get resolved. While Im not crazy about the hours for dependents, its manageable, so no real problem there. There is a decent selection, treadmills, stationary and recumbent bikes, eliptical, weight machines, free weights, kettlebells, mats, you name it, its there. The one aspect that has me paying for a membership off post is the amount of people that do not clean the equipment after theyre done with it. Ive witnessed people use their sweat rags to "wipe down" their machine when theyre finished. When I see something, I speak with employees but it continues. I wish that they had more employees on site that could enforce rules especially when they pertain to hygiene. Its hard to see whats going on in these rooms from behind a desk and I think theyre just short staffed.
Gentleman at the front desk, with glasses is really rude. It’s ridiculous having to show proof of vaccination with the Army reporting as of Dec 2021that 98 percent of the entire force is vaccinated. They’re less then one percent who refuses to get vaccinated, pending involuntary separation, and still the 98 percent still have to suffer by wearing mask and have to show proof of vaccination every day. Let’s see what 2023 brings us.
A decent gym with a wide variety of equipment
Usually keeps decent hours, weekends are shorter hours however. Many options to train multiple ways. Pool is great and people working there are very nice.
I always like a lot to go there, the people are very friendly
Always a good place to workout 💪.
The staff are super nice. They have all the equipment necessary for an amazing workout (including the rowing machines which are my personal favorite). It does get extremely crowded on Monday and Tuesday evenings but thats to be expected. Their selection of kettlebells is excellent as well. Only criticism I have is that they close at 8pm on week nights and 5pm on weekends. Other than that I enjoy working out there.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The facility needs to be completely bulldozed and rebuilt from the ground up. Horrible layout, horrible smells, horrible air quality, and the bathrooms smell like a Roman sewer, even if you submerged the place in Clorox bleach. Build a new facility. Fort Huachuca and it’s service members deserve it!
Not a public gym. Nice facility.
Well maintained track and turf field. Great place to do a few laps.
The pool is fabulous with temperature, cleanliness, and lifeguards. My grandson is taking swimming lessons taught by a great instructor for his preschool age. Thank you Ms. Carla!** Please LIKE my review, if it helps you!
Weird set up. Doesnt really function well as a weight gym but has all the equipment needed.
Good for a military gym. No air circulation in the cardio room to speak of
Too many rooms. Can’t do a circuit workout bc you have to keep switching rooms, bumping into people in the hallways. Worst layout I’ve seen in a DoD gym in my 14 years.
I know its a gym but it would be nice for my kids to go see their dad play basketball without getting an earful of all kinds of filthy talk and language. Theres a policy against it but its not enforced.
Love this place. Friendly staff.
Great establishment. Friendly people. Would love to have a healthy food spot inside.
Great gym! It could use some Wi-Fi, though...
The gym is ok but it has horrible hours and Linda ortiz is a gym nazi me and my son have been going there for months and she waited until I went to the bathroom to approach my sister and ask her how old she was which she replied 21 then began to harass my son which he is 12 and stated that he is not allowed in the gym nor on any equipment without supervision so I came back and my family explained the situation so I went to the front desk for answers and of course the gym nazi wasnt there so I asked for the sop for the gym and it does state that you have to be 12 with adult supervision but you can only go to the basketball court or the racquetball are and the same for 15 and below now I dont have a problem with the rules but if we have been going there for months and I have asked all the employees that work the front desk and they say he is fine if I am next to him then why does she have a issue it needs to be cut and dry if those are the rules then they need to be enforced by everyone not just her and she doesnt do it to everyone she waits to pick on people that she can intimidate
If you have access to this facility you are committing a crime by not going. This is the best gym in town. Hands down. Everyone here is here for one purpose. Strength, Health and Fitness. Nothing else. You want to work out in the Hammer room or the Nautilus room around people who are there to get in, get out and get fit. This is the place. They also have a pretty sweet pool (water in the desert!and decent locker/shower rooms. Facilities are maintained and there are always plenty of free weights.
Always clean and warm during winter. I would really enjoy it if they have some fitness classes early in the morning instead of 8am or afternoon.
Called hours before arriving with 8 kids and 3 adults for practice ( bleachers side along basketball courtsto make sure it was fine to have a group of us there with no problems. The man on the phone told us we were good to go. After arriving, we had nothing but problems because of Linda Ortiz (staffharassing us non-stop. She told one coach that we cant be in there, in which we were told hours before that we were fine to go. Second, Ortiz said that kids arent allowed at the gym, regardless of the age limit requirements for "kids" in the policy and the numerous times kids, including my own are there. Third, mentioned military IDs, which we all had and still preceded to try to tell us no. Fourth, after making a call to show she held no right to have us out even after meeting every excuse she mentioned she then let us enter. After entering she harrassed us the entire time. No kids were in anyones way, nor were they away from our sides, but she still kept harassing us. Definitely, going straight to her boss. Her behavior was unacceptable.
Barnes is older than me... but its a great gym, and very well maintained.
Staff are amazing and friendly. Clean and organized. Most patrons are nice.
Great place to workout. Constantly upgrading equipment. Missing some stuff but staff working on getting.
Solid gym with enough room to get it done at peak hours. It smells like broccoli burps though....
The amount of free weight equipment is insufficient for the number of service members who utilize the gym. The lack of multiple deadlift surfaces is also a glaring issue. Too much of the area is dedicated to the cardio equipment. Additionally, the hours are not ideal for those who are shift workers, or love to lift at night when the gym is empty. A good solution would be to implement a 24 hour access with CAC registration like several other installations have.
The weight rooms smell and are often way over crowded, pick up ball isnt bad but overall Im not a fan of this facility, alot of people pay to use off post locations over using Barnes
This is a large facility able to accommodate the fitness needs of most people.
Nice gym, unfortunately they close parts of it down without much notice.
Great service, very clean. Racquetball courts are perfect and open.
Has a pool and racquetball courts. What more could you ask for?
Came here during my CAP Encampment 2 years ago, track is very nice and is easy to run on. And there are no brown spots on the field. A royal treatment for the nations finest men!
Great gym, close to candlewood suites. Plenty of machines to facilitate your workout.
Its a decent Army gym with all the normal equipment one would expect to include an indoor pool.
The gym is amazing, but I wish they had updated equipment
Very crowded, not enough equipment. Old racquetball courts transformed into cardio/weightlifting rooms. It gets the job done.
