*Update* I have been with this practice for several years. My first cat was a spicy, feral calico-torti. I found her as a kitten running between cars at a bank in Savannah, GA. I brought her home with me to Pittsburgh, and while she was affectionate with me and my family, she was NOT affectionate with the staff. Though she did them no favors, they did me a tremendous favor by taking her on as patient. At 11 years she was having difficulty in the litter box, and I had her in the office regularly for weeks, they were doing everything for her that they could, eventhough she was more aggressive than usual due to the pain. At that point we found she had cancer, and that she wouldnt have more than a few months. They supported my decision to get another opinion, they supported me through treating her pain for as long as we could. They supported me through the most difficult decision in my life to have her put to sleep, and I will never take my pets anywhere but here. I will never not miss her, and I am forever appreciative of to the staff and Doctors that worked with her, especially Dr. Walsh and Dr. Finnerty who treated her in her last few months. This is the best Veterinary clinic in Pittsburgh.
Top notch but seems pricey. Especially for quick follow up visits.
The vets are great and caring. However, most of the time, we dont need to see the vets so our most interactions are with the techs. Most of the techs are super friendly. However, one tech always gave me attitudes while I was trying to calm my dog who really loves people. I understand they deal with pets all day and every day and would appreciate calm pets. However, I think to work in a pet medical field, staff should try to help the pet owners with situations instead of giving attitudes. I never want to go back again.
Point Breeze staff are great and they really treat our cats with care and love. They were our vet for Norman and we chose them as our vet for our new kittens, Papi and Chico.
Great vets, knowledgeable, gentle and kind.Edit: I want to update my earlier, rather short review. The Point Breeze Veterinary Service offers exceptional care for your pets -- kind, considerate, caring, empathetic, knowledgeable care. One of my cats had roller coaster health issues, and in the 13 years that I was bringing him to this vet, they were able to diagnose and treat him every time, until ultimately his liver failed him and he crashed. And even then, they managed to care for him so that I could make it home in time to hold him one last time before I had to put him to sleep.Although all of the vets, assistants, technicians, and desk staff are wonderful, I would especially like to recognize Dr. Simard, who has helped us through numerous health and emotional crises with our three cats and geriatric dog. Whenever she walks into the room, our hearts lighten, because we know that our critter is in good hands.I would unhesitatingly recommend Point Breeze Veterinary Service to anyone.
Had our dog nuetere. They took good care of him and he is recovering well.
Great vets. Treats our animals like the furry family members they are.
Amazing and wonderful staff and the best veteranarian office Ive ever been to. I travel from out of town to take my senior dachshund to see Dr LiVolsi for chiropractic adjustments and I couldnt be more happy! She is super sweet and so very knowledgeable! Dr Schroth took time out of her busy schedule to check my dog over and to educate me on some of my dogs health issues. Dr LiVolsi and Dr Schroth -- thank you so much!
Been bringing my cat here for years. Dr Finnerty has been terrific to work with. Smart, fair and on point with her recommendations and diagnoses. Thank you PBVC!
Roy, Katie, and Luna loved Dr. Finnerty and Coleman! After shuttling between a few different vets, I was very impressed with the bedside manner and time that my cats received. Luna has been having some ongoing health issues, and Dr. Finnerty provided the most thoughtful responses about options than I have received anywhere else. The facility was also the modern and well-kept. Im happy to have found a vet home for my fur-babies and Ill be recommending my fellow cat parents to this clinic!
I have been taking my kitties here for years and theyre the only vets I trust. Great staff and they definitely go the extra mile to make sure pets get the best care.
I am updating my review, which I previously had as a 2 star for being so expensive. I have now downgraded it to a 1 star. This review has been on my mind off and on for over a few years now and Im finally ready to write it.I have taken my dogs there for years, and besides being overpriced, I continued going because the doctors were so nice. After my last visit is when I decided never to go again. My dog always had back issues. This time was different. He was paralyzed in his back legs. I called there and was told to bring him in. I rushed down and went in. I was a total mess, I thought he was going to die. I had to carry him as he couldnt walk. After the doctor came in the room, she said they couldnt do anything for him, that I should take him to one of the emergency vets. As upset as I was, snot literally pouring out of my nose, I bent down to pick him up and, yes, my pants split. As if it couldnt get any worse. So I pick him up, and am trying to open the door, as the doctor just stood there watching this. Holding him and struggling with opening the door I get it open. I had no help getting him out to the car. I had to check out and go through the main door. Still, nobody helped me. After all the doctor saw as I struggled, my dog paralyzed, pants torn, very visibly upset, struggling to leave, she just watched. I will never, ever recommend this place or take any pet there again.I have reviewed many places, I always give my honest opinion. I sure hope that if anyones pet is in as much need of medical care as my dog was that they are treated better than we were.
Had to wait a bit to get my cats first appointment, but it was worth it. Good service and friendly staff.
Wonderful owner and staff. Completely trust these vets. Dr. Mathias gets it right when Specialists have been wrong.
The veterinarian and vet tech were incredibly sweet and did a wonderful job of keeping my stressed out kitty very calm. Probably the most painless vet visit ever! Would recommend them in a heart beat.
We moved to Pittsburgh in 2020 and selected Point Breeze as our Vet. I cant tell you how happy we are that we did. Up until this past week, weve had our two dogs (German Shepherd and Golden Doodlein for regular shots and exams only. This week, our Golden Doodle was not eating, getting sick, etc. We were able to get him in immediately and I cant tell you how blown away we are with the level of customer service, care and support we have received. Dr. Berger was so fantastic with communicating with us and spent time explaining the disease our dog was diagnosed with and the prognosis. They were able to get test results same day and watched him closely for two days. The vet tech was absolutely amazing when I went to pick him up and you can tell that he was loved on so much while he was there. They truly care about your pet and you. Thank you to Dr. Berger, the vet techs that took care of him, and the front desk for helping us through this!!!
My experiences with this place are old and still painful..I was sent here with my old cat because my veterinarian was fatally ill. Dr. Gerson said my cat was terminal . When I I said I’d take her home he coldly advised me that wasn’t an option, killed her, and sent me on my way. But people said he was a good vet, so when I got a dog, I took her to him for a check-up. He frightened her and, when I expressed concern, shooed me out of the room. She emerged with a bandaged leg dripping blood. They were dismissive of my concern. I never went there again, and my dog never had such an awful experience again. I have no idea where they get a decent reputation
We have always had the most positive experiences here. Waiting times have always been reasonable, all of the staff clearly LOVE the animals, and they are really good about fitting you in for emergencies that dont need emergency vet (like when my dog twisted her dewclaw around). My dog is a drama queen and the staff always goes out of the way to try to make her more comfortable and still give her a comprehensive exam. I also found their prices very comparable to other vets weve been to in the area.Edit: having gone through nearly 10 months of cancer related care and end of life, were even happier with this vet. Everyone has been so compassionate (for us and for our Ginnyand helpful, and even though we had hoped to have her at home, we dont regret a thing. They were very sweet and thoughtful, had a wonderful comfort room, and the whole experience was so much better than it could have been.
We couldnt be happier with our experiences with the Point Breeze Vet team and would recommend them to any pet owner. Our rescue pup, Tucker, has been a frequent visitor over the last 11 months as we try to work through an assortment of medical issues. Hes seen nearly every vet in the clinic at this point, and each of them has been equally attentive, kind, and genuinely caring. The tech and front desk teams are always patient yet efficient as we scramble to deal with whatever comes Tucks way at any given time. I know they would move mountains to try to help him feel better because theyve done so before.Tucker is always excited to see them and happily goes into the office with them every time. Theyre very tolerant of his interesting personality mix of anxiety and exuberance. They are everything that I would hope for in a vet clinic and were so grateful to have them down the street from us!
From the "responsibilities of a dog owner" talk from Dr Gerson on Buddys and our initial visit to puppy kindergarten, annual checkups and occasional emergency visits with all the docs to the compassion and humanity exhibited by Dr Berger and staff on his final day with us, our Wheaten received top-notch care from PBV over his nearly 16 fun-filled years. I/we will be forever grateful for the peace and comfort all there brought to Buddy and us.
Everyone was extremely friendly and seemed to genuinely care about the well-being of our dog. We had our dog anesthetized due to anxiety, and they handled him and us better than any vet weve been. I will definitely be back!
The best vet ever! Vet techs and vet do a wonderful job with covid protocols and keeping us informed. They are so thorough, provide lots of educational resources, and even caught an early issue with our dog’s leg. I think our dog wanted to stay forever! Cannot recommend them enough.
First impressions mean a lot. I called the other day, on 4/9 to make an appt for my kitty, she hasnt been acting herself and I think she may be having dental problems. I was asked if she is a patient there, which she is not. I was told the next available appt is not until May. I asked even for a sick pet and i was told (in a snotty voiceYUP. She didnt even ask what the problem was with my pet. Didnt say UNFORTUNATELY the next avail appt is not till May...just no compassion at all.
Exceptional veterinary office across the board! My young cat ate a lily leaf — highly toxic to cats! — and it is entirely thanks to the responsiveness, diligence, and exceptional care of Dr. Berger and the Point Breeze team that he made it through without developing chronic/life threatening symptoms. They sprang into action as soon as I called and were able to see us right away to take care of our pet emergency. They kept me updated throughout the process and were transparent and thorough in walking us through the procedures and price points of his care. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Thank you, Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic!
When our cat was diagnosed with a terminal illness at only one year old, we thought we were going to lose him. Thanks to the great support and help from the vets and assistants at Point Breeze, we managed to beat the odds and our cat is now healthy as ever.Needless to say, I would recommend them.
PBVC has made ensuring my pups and cats’ health so, so easy and convenient. We adopted a puppy at the beginning of COVID and have had all her shots/check-ups/spay during the pandemic. Even not being able to come in with her, PBVC has kept us so informed and reassured. I recommend them to everyone! Thank you, PBVC! Our furry family loves them as much as we do.
We received excellent care for our kitty, today! It was hard for us to have to change veterinarians, but the care at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic has made the transition easier. Caroline, the doctor, and Christina, the tech, were welcoming and friendly while providing a thorough exam for our kitty. (Our social interactions have greatly decreased since covid, which makes each positive interaction especially appreciated!) More importantly, they covered all bases! Its comforting for us to know that our kitty is in such good hands. Kudos to Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic!
It’s nice finding a good vet for you animals because you know from having a bad one. The staff here are really great, super helpful when calling in to ask about a symptom or minor issue with your pet. We just moved to the area about a year ago, and it feels comforting knowing we have a trusted resource for our pets.
This is by far the best veterinary clinic in Pittsburgh and definitely the best one Ive ever visited (and I worked in a clinic!). Their DVMs and techs are genuine and extremely thorough every single time. I cant imagine taking my pets anywhere else. Thank you to everyone at PBVC for always doing an amazing job!
We recently got our first puppy and chose Point Breeze Vet Clinic based on the reviews and proximity to our house. We have been SO pleased! The staff is awesome and takes great care of our little girl. They are super responsive and answer any questions I may have quickly and thoroughly. We are so excited to have such an awesome vet clinic to take our sweet girl. I would strongly recommend this clinic for any pet owner!
We were very stressed about finding a vet for our pets but this location has made the whole experience a Breeze! They have been helpful with all emergencies we have has. The vets, techs and front desk staff are all incredibly kind and good with our pets. We werent made to feel bad when our pup peed in the lobby. The hours are accessible, with evenings and weekends both available. They also give tips on trainers and rebates for medicine. They have never been overly packed when we arrive which is good for our stressed out kitty. I recommend this vet clinic to ALL pet owners!
An upscale clinic that still manages to be reasonably priced. I went with a very specialized request and they did not hesitate to help me with my pet. The staff and Vets are very friendly and seem to genuinely care! No parking lot that I saw but abundant street parking surrounding the clinic.
Until this week, we had been having otherwise great experiences with this clinic. It started two days ago -- we received a phone call that we would have to reschedule our appointment due to one of the veterinarians calling off sick. We totally understand that life happens, and we were able to accommodate the position that the clinic was in by re-scheduling our annual check-up for the same time two days later. Now, we live outside the city, so we always give ourselves more than 45 minutes to get here (to accommodate for traffic). Traffic was unusually heavy in Oakland on my way to the appointment, but since I was only running 5-10 minutes late, I didnt find it necessary to call the office to give them a heads up. Usually we sit in the waiting room for 5-10 minutes anyways, so I didnt think it was a big deal. After commuting 50 minutes and arriving at the clinic 10 minutes late, I was told by one of the front desk employees that I would have to re-schedule for another day. I was absolutely floored by this, especially since we were flexible enough to re-schedule our previously cancelled appointment to this day. I offered to run some errands in the city and come back in an hour or so, but the employees refused to even entertain that idea. They explained to me that my appointment was scheduled within a 15-minute block, and since I missed the first 8-10 minutes of that block, it would be impossible to squeeze in our annual check-up.All-in-all, I sat in the car for close to 2 hours with my dog and took myself away from other commitments to have the front desk staff turn me away because I was less than 15 minutes late. Even the most strict medical offices in which I have scheduled appointments give patients at least 15 minutes until you must re-schedule your appointment (which is totally understandable, considering that taking patients later than that can screw things up for the entire day). But to me, the inflexibility that this clinic was able to show is demonstrating a larger problem: that they are over-booking themselves with appointments and leaving little to no room for instances when "life happens."Furthermore, I could not find this "if youre late by a [time frame], you will be forced to re-schedule" policy posted either in the waiting room or on their website.I was bothered by the lack of compassion and empathy demonstrated by the front desk staff today, and I felt the need to share this story due to its absolute absurdity. We will unfortunately be searching for a new veterinary clinic.
This is my best vet experience to date. Anytime I call with questions, concerns, or requests, they are happy to answer. My dog is anxious when going to the vet, and they are always so quick to help try and calm him down. I trust their opinions and recommendations at every visit, and never feel like I am getting the run around.Overall, I have always left feeling like my animals were well serviced!
Beautiful and compassionate veterinary clinic! I was visiting and representing Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice and I was welcomed and happy to meet this great team!
After visiting another vet in the city due to them having a more convenient location, I am happy to say that I will never stray from Point Breeze Vet ever again. Ive been taking my dog here for 1.5 years, and the service and care received has always been professional and efficient. They have always been able to offer us same day appointments, whether with a doctor or a vet tech. Dr Simard is our first choice as she has a wonderful way with dogs and humans alike. Weve also seen Dr Berger who has been caring and efficient. The vet techs that we have seen have been extremely kind and helpful. Definitely will make the longer trip to come here no matter what.
Have been taking my cats to Point Breeze Veterinary going on 11 years now, and they take great care of them! Easy to get an appt. when I need one, and the staff is caring and compassionate. They euthanized my last cat, and as awful as it was, they provided me with peace and comfort throughout the experience. I highly recommend!
You can tell everyone there cares about what they do. They very patient and caring with your pet. My cat had to spend the night a few years ago. When I picked him up I was told the doc was gonna to be out of town for the weekend. I was giving his home and cell number in case I had any questions or concerns. Very dedicated to what they do.
I highly recommend Point Breeze vets. Excellent veterinary care, friendly assistants and staff. They care for our three cats and treat each one individually. They are always straightforward and its clear they care about our furry family and our budget.
Negative review for poor experience with receptionist over the phone. The call was in regards to a potential appointment for my cat that has been dealing with an ailment. It appears that this clinic does not take emergencies if you are not an existing patient. I have no issue if that is the policy however how the information was relayed was not compassionate or informative but rather the receptionist seemed annoyed. My cat regularly goes to the Cat Clinic in Shadyside - when discussing the ailments with the receptionist there over the phone she was fantastic. She provided some helpful advice and referred us to PVSEC if we wished to get our cat checked out. We called the PVSEC - the receptionist there was equally as great. She explained that it would be expensive to take the cat there and we would be better off calling one of the local vets and referred us to Point Breeze amongst others. As noted, the call with Point Breeze was very discouraging and frankly surprising. Following this we called Big Easy in Lawrenceville and they were very nice and we made a same day appointment there. Ultimately, I am taking the time to go into great detail because when you are dealing with an injured animal a little kindness can go a long way and that kindness was extended by every other Vets office that was contacted and I would recommend exploring those options first.
Saw Dr. Mathias who was great. I was worried about what I perceived to be slight swelling in my cats nose. All was fine and she didnt try to push bloodwork, xrays or anything else. At my last vet no matter what I went in for they were always telling me some test needed to be performed. Although I havent needed the service yet, they have a limited number of same day appointments available for established patients. When I called my original vet as established patient to make appointment for my cats nose problem we couldnt get an appointment for 2 weeks. Point breeze vet was able to see us just one day sooner as new patient which is why I switched.
I arrived this morning with my sick dog 12 minutes before opening time. I saw several people going in and out of the office so I figured I would go in and see if I could begin filling out any paperwork if not I would have been happy to wait in their seating area. I was met with one of the least compassionate and rude desk attendants who asked if I were a client which I am not and quickly showed me out with pamphlets to other vet offices. She was very rude in her tone while saying we aren’t even open 3 times in different condescending ways. My dog is sick and I received no assistance from this otherwise highly reviewed vets office.
Shakespeare my Maine Coons loves it, and so do we. Great knowledgeable staff. And Amazing Dr.
Super Impressed with their setup, attitude and level of attention.Basically I judge most new vets by two things: the time they spend with my pet/how rushed they make me feel during a routine visit, and how much time elapses before they talk to me about Science Diet. These two things tell me the doctor is on auto-pilot and perhaps has too big a panel of patients and maybe isnt such a great human being.I brought my whole tribe of animals for a new pet visit, they spent over an hour and a half going over care routines, previous issues, new questions, etc. I love that. Their advice is practical and they dont push products, very respectable. Both the techs and vet were all SUPER knowledgable and they went out of their way to give our pets treats and keep them comfortable. They focus on preventative care, which is great. They also have two locations but werent super packed, which tells me they manage their panel well even after having expanded.
Great people and wonderful care for our cats! I never thought Id find myself getting acupuncture, much less so for my cat, but Dr. Schroths treatments have really made a substantial improvement in our guys ability to ambulate and jump. Many thanks!
Exceptional care! Staff and Docs are all caring, professional and very knowledgeable. This team goes above and beyond to make sure your pet is comfortable and the pet parent is well-informed.Best clinic I have ever visited!
I usually never write reviews for places, but I felt like I had to for this one. I cannot say enough good about this place! My cat recently had an emergency and they took him in right away, and took the time to explain to me what was going on. They will work with you on a payment plan if you need to do so. Dr. Gerson has been so great throughout this experience and was willing to answer all the questions that I had, also providing me with reliable resources if I wanted to do further research on my cats issue. The same can be said for the rest of the staff (shout out to vet tech Joan)! I called every day Dub was an in-patient and they even let me come in to visit him, and they were always happy to answer any questions I had (which were many)! I guess I cant speak for any other veterinarian practices in Pittsburgh, but I know that I wouldnt want to take Dub anywhere else but Point Breeze.
My now elderly dog has been a patient at Point Breeze Veterinary clinic for over eleven years. I have been impressed with their vet techs over the years as almost every single one remembers my dog by name. I have been especially pleased by the friendliness of receptionist Andrea and vet tech Annie for her compassion and skill. Unfortunately, my sweet girl was diagnosed with cancer and I have been bringing her every month for follow up to determine when palliative care will be necessary. Dr. Gerson has been very patient and kind; going as far as sitting with me one afternoon soon after her diagnosis when I didn’t even have an appointment. I had come into the clinic without an appointment, ran into him on his day off and he took the time to listen to my concerns, answer my questions and even told a few jokes. I will say the tests were expensive and I am still paying them off. However, Dr. Gerson has been understanding and even met with me and my dog for free and at a discount. This has been a difficult process that I am sure will become more so, but I am grateful for the compassionate care that both my dog and I have received.
Honestly one of the best vet clinics I’ve taken a pet to – definitely the best in Pittsburgh.I took my 9 year old rescue dog to Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic not knowing what to expect. All of the staff were very helpful and patient, both with me (an anxious rescuerand with my very skittish rescue. They reassured both of us.The appointments were easy to schedule, prompt, and staff communicated everything very clearly – particularly regarding costs and treatment options. I recommend this clinic without hesitation.
Very friendly staff. They have always made my dogs feel welcome and cared for. They are very knowledgeable, professional, and want the best for your pets. I have seen a few different vets there and each one has been great. The only problem is that it can be hard to find the time to schedule an appointment, but if you call in advance, they can usually fit you in. I plan on continuing to bring my pets here in the future when they need checkups or are sick.
