Big C Lumber in LaPorte County

Went there for the first time today because I was already in LaPorte instead of driving to South Bend or Michigan City Lowe’s or Menards. A standard 2x8x8’ was $8 at the box stores. They wanted $18! Ridiculous…. I can understand being 10-15% higher for the convenience, but 225% higher!!!!!. I bought it because I was already there, but never again….

First time in the store. Was greeted nicely and though I was dressed in clothes dirty from our DIY projects, was helped with a very high degree of courtesy and respect. I wish Id caught the ladys name because she deserves big kudos🌟🌠🌟🌠🌟🌠🌟🌠🌟🌠⭐ . It was Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, about 12:44 pm according to the cash sales invoice. Had to go back today and lucky for us Deb was there again!She is the one who helped me yesterday. Also the yard workers were easy to work with too. 😃

Im relatively new to the area and was told to try Big C. Ive been there a few times and everyone has been helpful and I got great service. Recently, I ordered a load of about 45 boards. I got them delivered due to covid 19. After I arrived home ,they were already delivered. I must have gotten every 2x4 and 2x6 that was bad , because EVERYONE was bad. Not one had all four corners on them. I should have had them taken all back but didnt. I ordered here so I didnt have to go inside the big box stores. I may have too. Very dissatisfied.

I always receive great service when I go to Big C!! The staff are always pleasant willing to work with me and help me-especially when I go in looking for something I only have a name for and have no clue what Im asking for LOL!! They cut my boards to the sizes I ask without question, and always make sure Im happy with the product before I leave! Prompt and ready to help!! Thats great service!!

I came in with a quote from Von Tobel for a new front door and a new storm door. The quote was for $6206.00. I was taken care of by Mike, he was very friending and helpful. He gave me a quote for the same doors and Big C price was $300.00 cheaper. Ordered the doors from Mike . The doors came in when he said and they delivered them that day. The 2 guys that delivered the doors where very nice and careful with the doors. I had a GREAT experience with Big C Lumber and I will buy from them again. Thank You. very much.

We have been in La Porte less than a year but have been to Big C Lumber at least a dozen times. The staff is polite and efficient. By the time you drive to the lot someone is there to help you. Without asking they put an eye on the lumber so you get a good board and they have always loaded my SUV carefully. They had no problem cutting longer pieces when needed. Their prices might be a bit more than HD or Lowes but considering the time and gas I save they are worth.

Price is not competitive, if you arent a regular they dont want to deal with you. Im in the middle of a house remodel and was sent in by my contractor who uses them exclusively. After the treatment I received I will not allow any of their materials used on our project. My contractor agrees wholeheartedly. I support buying local whenever possible, but for this project and future projects Michigan City local will work as well.
