Bloodroot Trail, Andrews, IN 46702, USA, Huntington County
This is the place to go to park your car and hike the Bloodroot trail. You can avoid the state park entrance fees. A bit of a hidden gem.
Most of the trail is well maintained. The campsites are all pretty well located. There were multiple trees down on sections of the trail though that were hard to pass.
Great hike. Almost 11 miles so take water with you. The first half of the hike along the water is beautiful. The trip back was less scenic but still great. This trail is also a simple easy mountain bike trail.
Nice place to go somewhat lacal and get into the woods but it can be very wet and muddy.
Nice trail. Had a couple muddy spots.
Lovely little hike to camping areas.
One of my favorite backpacking trails in Indiana
Great hike for a day hike or an overnight, nice campsites off the trail, terrain varies through different areas.
Great day to be out side. Trail covered in snow.
Update: We went back to the trail for another try. The trail was cut back and the views were awesome. See pictures. In an earlier trip, unfortunately the trail had not been maintained. The grassy sections were waist deep. But things are in much better shape and we had a lovely hike!
I had fun with my family we camped it was beautiful
Nice moderate trail. It is muddy at places though.
It is a nice trail for beginner backpacking, but make sure to go in the summer or fall and not the spring because the trail was flooded at some points. Also make sure to bring a map because I accidentally hiked 17 miles instead of 13 miles overall. 😅
Beautiful
It is so beautiful there. We stopped for a look around and ended up spending hours walking the trails. Occasionally we came across other people but for the most part it felt very quiet, peaceful? And even private. Looking forward to returning.
Love riding my mountain bike on bloodroot and the connected mtb trail. There is some boring grassy field trail in it, but overall its a lot of fun.
Love the lake♡♡
Beautiful
Nice quiet place to go enjoy the Reservoir and see the river, occasionally some wild life!
Fast and easy
Great trails for a moderate hike.
Nice walk in nice weather
Not taken care of weeds dead trees
Great hike
For my purposes of trail running, it didnt hit the spot: mucky, muddy, slippery, wet. I will say, however, my visit was in late February, and like most areas that time of year, conditions are usually poor.
Is never mowed
Quiet walk by Salamonie lake.
Excellent access to the best campsites on the trail
Decent trail, have stayed at campsite 6 a few times now. Awesome property with awesome backpacking sites. Only place I know of in northern indiana that you can camp on trail, much closer for northerners than traveling to the deam wilderness or the AHT further south.
Beautiful,
A buddy and I have hiked/camped here two years in a row now. Good hiking that isnt to challenging. Best part is the truly primitive sites available to camp on. No neighbors, no devices = total satisfaction.
Nice views overlooking the lake
Always love hiking these trails
