β οΈ DO NOT STAY HERE! β οΈ Overpriced, with an extremely Rude, Unapologetic Host. We arrived early (1pmand was scolded by their receptionist, who aggressively told us to "read the sign" as Checkin wasnt until 2pm. When we offered to go for a walk into town and come back at the correct time, we received a snappy response stating: "most places charge a $50 early Checkin fee" - even though we were happy to come back at 2! π The Pool was unswimmable (and wouldnt be able to be used prior to our departure), the Restaurant was closed (and would be for a further 6 months π³and the WiFi was non-existent (an on going saga with them and NBM π€¦πΌββοΈ). Luckily the North Gregory down the road had a room available for our 2 night stay (notably; at a cheaper rate, with friendlier staff, who offered exceptional food, free WiFi and a spa!If you are after a small town welcome, Dont waste your time at the Boulder Opal Inn! π‘
Rooms are clean , I dont think its worth $170 p/n though.
Clean, tidy and nice rooms available
Great buffet dinning and very supportive of elderly people
Hard bed. Over priced and receptionist less than welcoming. Sorry, but never again!!!
Nice place, nice dinner. 10min walk to town
Loved it! Great size room, representing excellent value for money. Laundry and dryer available (coin operated). Very tidy. Friendly staff and convenient location.Highly recommended.
Good clean accommodation. All you need . A walk into town for good pub food .
This motel delivered on everything they advertised. Clean, quiet rooms. Modern, good beds, wiifii that worked.Room service meal was excellent. We moved here from a not very good motel down the street. Yes it cost more but was value for money for an extra $30. Well worth it.
Our rooms were clean and fresh, such an improvement on our prior accommodation, so we were all really happy. Wed had a very busy day and decided to dine in our room and everyone enjoyed their meals. Even beat the 11 year old, who could not finish his meal. That doesnt happen often! Loved the amusing sign on the Laundry Door - "Do you like Snakes" "If the answer is "no" please shut the door! Thank you for an enjoyable stay and perfect room service meals.
Good base location.... Warm and clean.... Great value...
Rooms were a good size. Clean bathroom and linen. Enjoyed a tasty buffet dinner in the restaurant area.
Clean Rooms, friendly staff great food at their restaurant .
Clean and comfortable rooms and a pool on site. Very convenient location.
After arranging a room for Aussie day night then changed it tazz couldnt have been more helpful i travelled 1000 klms with my 77 year old mother so pulled up busted. and when we arrived she was so helpful. To point of printing menus advising of road conditions , meal delivery. Lovely CLEAN ROOM. I tell you one thing it is all about customer service and the BOULDER OPAL EXCELLS ON ALL FRONTS. THANK YOU AGAIN LADIES.
I have stayed overnight twice in last few months in a quiet side of town, plenty of rooms great service & facilities & I THINK is newest in the town, never disappoints
Love it .Beautiful lady in charge that cant do enough for u .If u have animals it is the best place to stay .Absolutely wonderful. π
Overnighted at the Boulder Opal Motor Inn on 8 October after visiting the Australian Age of Dinosaurs just outside Winton. It was an extremely hot day for October - 45 degrees - and we were so grateful to get into the air conditioning after a hot day with the Dinosaurs. Our room was clean and tidy, although it did look a tad dated with furnishings etc. The lady on the reception was extremely cheery and friendly. The wifi reception was very patchy, especially in the room. However, it worked well when we were in the main reception and restaurant. We decided to dine in that night so strolled across to the attached restaurant. Food was very tasty so no complaints there. Unfortunately the wine prices were rather exorbitant but I guess we were willing to pay whatever it took to have a good night. We bought the same bottle of wine the following night in Richmond and it was $17 cheaper. I can cope with a 100% mark up in restaurants and I guess we expected wine to be more expensive in the middle of the Queensland outback, but given you can get the wine for $14 a bottle at any Dan Murphys and it only cost $28 in the Mud Hut Hotel, Richmond, the $45 we paid at the Boulder Opal Motor Inn Restaurant does seem a bit over the top.
Great. Clean rooms. Lovely meals.Good location. No stairs.
I stayed at this motel some 5 years ago and I think it has deteriorated a little since then. In our room the shower cubicle was leaking and you could see where they had tried to patch it up. The WIFI just didnt work - some explanation about them trying a new system. It is probably the best accommodation in Winton but they are charging top $$$$ and (for thatI expect a little more than ok.
A great place to stay over night or for a week to see the local sights. Reasonable prices clean air con rooms. Pool just a short walk to main shops and pubs.
Wonderful staff.Clean facilities.Under cover parking can bean issue depending what unit you are in. We were in unit 12 and there was no parking for us undercover so we had to park next to unit one.
This was a great place to stay. We broke down near the town and had to stay longer than planned. The lovely couple running it were so accommodating and treated us really well. The cleaning staff were also really friendly and were happy to chat. The amenities were spotless and the laundry was cheap to use. The food was amazing and the rooms were lovely. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Slightly old fashioned style motel but everything was clean and new. I wish they didnt spray the rooms with perfumed "deodorant".Meals were good. The Brolgas visit daily and are fed by the cook.
This is the best kept secret in Winton. The food here was fantastic and I can I just say WOW!! Chief Mark, I take my hat off to you. The staff Helen, Amanda, and Cameron are so welcoming.
Rooms were clean and tidy meals were amazing note to anybody wanting eat in this town make sure you arrive before 2pm
Wonderful hosts, nice theme in the restaurant and the food was wonderful.I should have ordered two of the risotto.I travel a lot and would come here again.
Helen went above and beyond to help us out with a room for the night in an emergency. She is warm and welcoming. The room was clean and the staff friendly. And the chef is amazing, had dinner with friends and very meal was spot on. Would highly recommend
Gday to Helenππ»ββοΈ on arrival a warm sunny greeting from Helen, clean tidy rooms, walking distance to town, restaurant on site, sparkling pool, nice outdoor area and very helpful. Would have stayed longer if our time permittedππ» thankyou Boulder Opal, tip top!
Clean, comfortable, friendly. Great restaurant. Lovely grounds and pool. Guest laundry.
A bit of an oasis in the desert, wonderfull, friendly service, fresh tasty food cooked by an inspiring new chef, with an elevated dining experience of the finer sort in the well accomodated restaurant.. peaceful, relaxed atmosphere
Great accommodation and meals. Very friendly staff. Nice pool as well.
Excellent stay. Helen & Cams hospitality was outstanding. Premises are immaculate, pool sparkling clean and lovely, and food was 5 stars as well. Even our children commented, "We have to go back and stay there again!". Thank you Helen & Cam, we will spread the word and will be back!
5* service, everything was perfect for us. Helen (ownerwent above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The food at their restaurant was superb
Helpful staff but no internet connection 10 meters past the pool toilet looked past its use by date and a rattle noise in the fridge on and off during the night. Suggest booster for wi-fi.
Arrived 11pm at night no booking, staff went out of there way to accomodate us. Made us a meal of rice and sweet sour pork fit to feed a king. We had drive. Through from Bundaberg that morning, everything in town was fully booked. We were lucky enough to find the only room available. Cannot recommend highly enough. We will be back xmas 2021
Big spacious room but bed was dirty. Took quilt cover off as it had old food stuck on it only to find a dead roach between the sheets. Next morning we found 2 more roaches in our sheets (one still alive). For $160 a night I would expect a clean vermon free bed at the very least!
Fantastic service from Helen and the team. Very friendly staff and great food. Rooms well sized. Has a swimming pool and a nice area to sit by the pool. Some Foxtel channels.
The very best place to stay in winton bar none with a terrific restaurant and entertainment each evening and morning by a family of friendly brolgas. Highly recommended. Cheers to manager Helen whose humour and friendliness was greatly appreciated
This place would have to be the friendliest motel around service was top quality very friendly staff and room were well furnished and very clean. Highly recommend staying here.
Room was not clean. Air conditioner had parts missing and was ancient and noisy. Had to turn the fridge off to enable us to sleep. It sounded like it had a few bullfrogs in it. Cleaners started making a racket at 6.30 am and were speaking loudly outside our door. The $160 overnight stay outrageous for what is available.
If your stopping through Winton to experience the Age of Dinosaurs, I would recommend staying elsewhere. For $160 a night, the staff were not welcoming and felt like second rate citizens. The room was mediocre, aircon was broken, the bathroom was not clean. The facility does offer free wifi although it is deceptive as it doesnt reach the guestrooms. Overall expectations of a normal motel although price doesnt reflect the service nor the cleanliness.
Helen and Cam are wonderful friendly hosts. The rooms were spotlessThe grounds were well kept and got a lovely pool. The restaurant wasnt open as it was outside their season. But 4 of us workers were here for couple weeks during the virus debacle but Helen and Cam would organise our dinner prepared from hotel down the road. Cam would go get our dinners and deliver to our rooms with our breakfast and lunches as well. They always had a smile and a lovely attitude to their work.Stay here if come back to Winton if they still management. Top place
The rooms comfortable and clean and the Hosts - Helen and Cameron friendly, helpful, and extremely accommodating.A lovely clean pool and added bonus to be able to park under cover in the heat.Made for a pleasant stay in Winton.
Cam and Helen were amazing hosts, fitting three families in at very late notice and keeping the kitchen open to feed us. Not only that, they then took it on to organise us accommodation in Longreach. The rooms were good quality and clean. True country hospitality!!
A bit dusty. Needs a bit of tlc. Staff is friendly enough. But starting room cleaning at 6am is a bit much. If i pay for a good nights sleep that includes sleeping till at least 7 am.
Upon arriving me and my missus were made to feel about as welcome as bowel cancer. The shower drainage system here smells as bad as the attitude of the bald bloke who works behind the counter. Why on earth are you allowed to even come into any form of communication with the public?you should be locked in a cage and kept as the motel pet! My son who is 10 could do a better job servicing at reception than you. Very rude man with no communication skills... No smiles...clearly doesnt want you there.. Just a lump of meat slunched in an office chair with the occasional grunt that eventually, reluctantly handed over the keys. God knows how anyone could ever get a smile off him. I Was hoping the room would compensate for it but it didnt... got a shock off the kettle, shower is filthy and stinks of sewerage, toilet covered in old... filth and gunk etc etc etc you get the picture , the milk had expired, fridge leaks, doesnt get cool enough, AC is as much use as the other singer in Wham. The place looks very inviting from the outside but after being confronted by that bald thing all I wanted to do was just get back into the car and slit my wrists. So overall... absolutely God awful. Sort your attitude out seriously... so I wont be returning and you can stick your motel, along with your Wifi router up your fudge tunnel! (Then see what kind of signal strength you get!)
Used to stay here for work. The bloke behind the counter in the wrong position, has never been welcoming for myself, judging by the other reviews he must have an issue for workers staying at his basic motel. Last visit no hello and welcome as usual he was more concerned about gawking around me to my car outside because he spotted i had someone with me. Adding an extra $17 to the already grossly overpriced rooms! Never again will we be staying here. Much nicer and friendlier and well better priced at motel other end of town.
Absolutely fantastic. Management are wonderful. When we walked into the room you could smell how clean it was. The room, bedding, and bathroom inc. towels were spotlessly clean. All rooms, of the 2 bedroom apartment, had heating and cooling. There is a public washing machine and dryer available for use. There is also a pool which looked appealing. Restaurant at the motor inn - Friday night was Fish & Chip night for $15, it was a HUGE delicious meal.
Been staying here for years and there is not a better motel for 200 miles. See my comment about the chef at the end of this post! Although it is on the highway, it is protected by an embankment so the few road trains that rumble past at night are not noticeable. Staff are friendly and helpful and the new manager, Emma appointed earlier this year has done a great job to improve the presentation and cleanliness of the motel and gardens. If you are lucky, you may be visited by a local family of brolgas who seem to enjoy sharing this oasis in the outback. At this stage of the motels life, the rooms are starting to date and require refurbishment especially the bathrooms, carpet and bedspreads. But this is still the best in town and has 2 major advantages. The first is their water treatment plant which completely removes the foul smell of the bore water and delivers a very enjoyable shower with plenty of pressure to wash off the bull dust. The second incredible asset this place has to offer is the best chef I have had the delight to experience outside of a capital city. Steve is so good that he will make this motel a destination point purely for the magnificent 5 star gastronomic experience. After years of training and experience at Aria Sydney and Crown Casino Melbourne, Steve had brought his superb talent to the outback. Dont miss this place.
