Admittedly, I was a little cautious about coming to this restaurant because Thai restaurants can be kind of hit or miss, but Classic Thai is delicious! It had something really special about it that just made the whole experience feel very warm, familiar, and happy. Ill definitely be coming a lot more!

Stopped in while traveling and saw this spot with high ratings so I had to try it out, did takeout because it was so late. Great authentic food, best fried rice I have had in along time, egg roles were perfect, & you gotta try the pad Thai! The staff and woman was very sweet & Id be happy to visit again but to actually eat in, not takeout as the vibe was very welcoming. Thanks!

I love going here because it is unlike anything else in Effingham. Chef always surprises me with something I have never tried before. This evening appetizer #1 Chicken skewers with peanut dipping sauce to go along with a big bowl of Coconut chicken curry and noodle soup, extra spicy :It was delicious, I cant wait to go back for lunch.

DO NOT go here! Pricing on the menu is not correct! She charges $2 or more per meal over menu prices, adds a gratuity for each table, brings bottled water to the table and then charges you for each bottle even though you did not request water! SMALL portions! This business needs to be reported to the BBB and the Chamber!

I rarely write a bad review so this is an exception. I regularly travel through this area and usually wait to get to Vandalia and eat at Baan Thai ( which is excellent!), but had made a couple stops and was getting very hungry so decided to give this place a try. BIG mistake! To begin with, it was a cold day and the restaurant was freezing! Another customer was eating with his coat on! She brought me a bottle of water I did not ask for and I ordered the red curry with shrimp and hot tea. The tea was more like hot water. She first brought out the plate of rice so that by the time she brought the curry, the rice was cold. But the curry was only lukewarm, not that great and the room was so cold that everything was cold in minutes. The curry was literally cereal bowl size with 4 small shrimp!! And price - 19.95!! No ticket, so I have no idea how she came up with that! Next time, I will just remain hungry and drive to Vandalia. No comparison!

Not impressed...at all. Ordered two drunken noodles one chicken and one shrimp, one combo fried rice, and a chicken on a stick appetizer to go. Drunken noodles were the worst Ive had anywhere. Ate one order and the chicken sticks. Next night I had the fried rice which was fairly good. I tried to eat the second drunken noodles but had to toss it when my third bite tasted like dish soap. My dog wouldnt eat any of of including the shrimp and she eats anything!! $55, should have been more like $40-45 and yes, she insisted on the bottled water..lol. Wont be back.

Only Thai restaurant in Effingham. Good food, but super expensive with no proper itemized bill. Was charged $18+ for a simple red curry rice which doesnt make sense. Lady at the restaurant was helpful, but I guess she makes up the prices in her head when you get billed which is not right. If you have time, there are other places maybe about 10-15 miles from this place which have better reviews.

really bad experience! The restaurant raised the price by $2 for each dish after we finished the order, and charged 1 dollar for the bottle water without asking if we need the water! The worst thing is the dishes tasted badly! The worst Thai food I ever had!!!! They do not have print bill, but a hand written one, and they did a wrong calculation in purpose because even we pointed it out, the restaurant did not admitted it at the beginning until we started to argue it!!!

We felt cheated. This is the first time at a Thai restaurant weve had such tiny and overpriced mediocre portions. Each item was a few dollars more than the listed menu price, and her excuse was "true authentic Asian vegetables come from St. Louis" which made zero sense. Also, what seemed to be complimentary water that we did NOT ask for (in plastic bottles??was also added to the bill. I do NOT recommend this place. Definitely a scam.

I never write reviews and especially not about a small business but we did not have a good experience. I ordered a panang curry to split and an order of potstickers. She charged us $8 for an extra order of rice and bottled water which we didn’t ask for. And the prices of the food were not what was on the menu. Our check was several dollars more for each item. We also ordered it mild and it came out spicy. It was the thinnest curry I’ve ever had and the tofu was very strangely chewy. Overcharged and under impressed all around.

I was passing through on my home and stopped over in Effingham for the night. I spotted this place nearby as we were in the mood for Thai or Chinese food. Lilly was pleasant and greeted with a smile. The food was cooked to order and was nice and hot! We had the ginger chicken and garlic chicken, egg rolls and Tom yum soup, all of which we thought was delicious!I would recommend stopping by if you’re looking for a tasty Thai options, you won’t be disappointed. The location is convenient to find off hwy 57.

I really, really wanted this place to be good. I saw the good and bad reviews, but I really wanted it to be good. We called in our order a half hour ahead. They did not start making it until we arrived. It was Friday night, during the dinner "rush". There wasnt a single diner in there. The restaurant had lack luster kitch decor, a bunch of stuff piled in one of the booths, beyond the counter stuff was kind of piled. Thats ok, I thought maybe it would be a really good, hidden gem. When I finally got my check, the lady appeared to be inventing the prices on the spot and it was much higher than they should of been. I pointed out that she wasnt charging me the prices on the menu. She told me that as her costs had gone up she was charging more for everything. I mentioned that she had not said this on the phone when she took my order. She told me she had posted it on Facebook. Finally the food was mediocre. My mild curry was so spicy, not even me- who puts hot sauce on everything, and eats spicy Thai food in Thailand, could eat it (mild for the kids). My husbands pad thai was sad. My pad see you flavorless. I worked in restaurants for 17 years, and generally would not leave a bad review on a struggling mom and pop business, but the inventing on the prices is really not cool

I’m from the California Bay Area and I’ve tried a lot of authentic Thai places. The food here was excellent for being in a very rural area. I would definitely come back here to eat and recommend this spot to my friends. Very yummy pad thai and potstickers.

The food was delicious and the service was quick and correct. We particularly enjoyed the vegetarian/vegan options. The dessert was also wonderful! Highly recommend stopping in if you are traveling through Effingham like we were. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Just be aware it may be spicy.

An unexpected find, off I-70. Stopped by on a Sunday for dinner. The lady running the place was a bit hard to understand but very friendly and thrilled to have us. Must be a struggle to keep a mom & pop ethnic restaurant these days, when the large selection of chain restaurants by the I-70 exit is drawing away all the people passing through. We had the dumplings (tasted home made), two flat rice noodle dishes (loved the fresh vegetables), and two sticky rice desserts (banana and mango. I personally preferred the mango one).Overall, the food tasted authentic and delicious.I gave only 4 stars because the portion size was on the smaller side. My advice would be to raise the prices by $1-2 and increase the portions.

The food we had was decent but when we asked about the peanut sauce she claimed that she doesn’t make that yet it shows on the menu that you can buy a side of peanut sauce. When we finished eating she was quick to insinuate that we should leave. We got up to the register pulled out a $50 and she gave us back $2. No receipt. No total given. After adding up what we got, the total was only $38. Seems pretty steep if we had to pay $12 in taxes. Will not be going there ever again.

We were traveling from Michigan to Missouri and saw this Thai restaurant online. We read the good and bad reviews. But we tried it anyway and we were not disappointed. We love Thai dishes and we tried different styles of Thai cooking. So far I’m happy with my Basil Chicken as well as my husband with his red chicken curry.

Ordered two 9.95 entrees 2 2.95 spring rolls and a side rice. Charged $49 when menu prices added to 29. When asked said “everything is more” “prices up” stated that wasn’t told and not on menu a just kept repeating “prices up”. Totally shady and illegal.

When you’re traveling and trying new places it’s a hit or miss. Classic Thai was a miss for me. I was overcharged and given less food plus old seafood and noodles with a few raw veggies to top it off. The one star is for the wings they were the only thing that was fresh.

The high reviews are so confusing to me. We walked in a couple years ago, the lady was in the dining room sweeping but we somehow walked past her to a table and sat for 15 minutes without being noticed at all. So I got up to ask her to take our order. She didnt write it down and while she was making it, we noticed the first table by the wall was actually covered in prescription medications. The spring rolls were wrapped in old and chewy wraps, thevspare plates had old rice right in the center, the curry was watery, portioned small, and cold. The shrimp dish my gf got still had tails and veins and was cold. We walked out without paying because it was over 30 dollars for a meal we couldnt fathom enjoying. T garden thai in charleston is cheaper and way better. The owners of t garden are laos so the food is very authentic as laos cuisine closely mimics thai.

Based on reviews, we thought we would give this place a try. We entered and noticed on a Friday night we were the only ones in it. We were seated and lady brought menus and 2 bottled waters. My wife ordered cashew chicken with Thai iced tea and I ordered beef in oyster sauce. My wife said hers had no spice to it and the tea was so-so. I received mine and after a couple of bites I discovered the beef was hamburger so I picked thru and ate the veggies that had no spice. I think the lady was the only one working, doing it all. When I received the bill we were charged for the bottled water even tho we did not ask for them. This was the worst Thai restaurant weve ever been to. Not sure where all of good reviews came from.

Terrible. The woman who took our order had snot running down her nose when her mask kept falling down. The food was cold and watery like soup. No real flavor. Gave me a meat appetizer when I ordered vegetarian. Gross. I need to eat something else because my panang vegetable curry only had a few veggies.

The best Thai food in the most unlikely location! If youre driving cross-country and love Thai food, make a stop where I-70 and I-57 intersect and treat yourself to this amazing food. Very vegan-friendly, too...you wont believe the veggie pot stickers are meatless. I also love the pad see ew and green curry, but everything Ive tried is excellent. We make Classic Thai part of our plan on our annual cross-country trip.

WOW. I’ve had thai food in LA, NY, and many places in between, and this is some of the absolute best. The owner/chef is from Bangkok, so it’s 100% authentic - no games. Every dish had complex and full flavors and were so satisfying. Portions aren’t too large, just right. The restaurant inside is unassuming, decorated with authentic art and Thai ornaments. I recommend the dumplings and the drunken noodles. Plus, it’s BYOB!Wow, just wow. I am so surprised to find this good of food in the middle of Illinois. I am so glad we stopped here for dinner. Blew me away.

We stopped here for takeout on our drive cross country. The woman who works here made us delicious food, and was very kind and charming. Then, while we were out front eating in our car (Covid-times!), she brought us a bag of chips from Thailand, to snack on during the drive!!! She is possibly an actual angel.

Picked up food on a road trip because this place is 5 minutes off the road. It was just not good as far as flavor goes. I was surprised by all the good reviews. I ordered 3 different dishes and all of them were similarly oily and salty without the Thai flavor Im used to. Champaign area just a few minutes north has some of the best Thai food Ive ever had (and with mock duck too). Disappointed I didnt just drive a little longer.

We were driving through town and found this place. Thankfully it was open for take out during covid. Excellent customer service. The owner Lili is from Bangkok and been here 10 years if I understood her correctly. Everything we ordered was delicious. If you live or pass by the town of Effingham be sure to give this place a try. It’s the only Thai food restaurant in town. Owner came to the parking lot to ask us how our food was. Then came out again and brought us some delicious complimentary mango crunchy rolls. We’ll definitely be stopping here again anytime we are nearby. 😊

Ive tried a couple of times to support it, the food just isnt 1/4 as good as other decent Thai food Ive had 15 or 20 other thai spots Ive visited. The value /portion size is not there so, you leave hungry and disappointed. If you had losts of Thai food, Id say skip it. If youve notbeen exposure to the cuisine a whole lot, youll be fine.

A fantastic place to go. The food was excellent, cooked to your preferred spice level. And boy, we are talking FAST. We went on a Friday night, and we got our food faster than Ive often gotten it at McDonalds. Its reasonably priced, about the 10-13 range for most menu items. And, they overtly encourage you to bring your own alcoholic beverage if you so choose.

Used our trusty google maps to find this little hole-in-the-wall with a sign out front that is straight and to-the-point: it says, "Thai Restaurant." Thats it! No way we would have stopped without Google reviews. Very glad we did!Excellent food, but surprisingly spendy for lunch in little Effingham. No separate lunch menu, so at $12/plate, not surprising that we were the only ones there at noon on a Friday.BYOB -- no alcohol but sign on the door says its fine!Krista and I had a perfectly lovely fried rice that was moist without being greasy, drunken noodles that were mainly freshly-cooked vegetables, just a few pieces of meat and huge tasty basil leaves. Just enough noodles to be called a noodle dish. So often we get mainly noodles, so that was a welcome change!Portions were healthy and reasonable, but at $12 a plate for lunch, we expected leftovers. The server is also the cook and shes there by herself at lunch. Very sweet lady with a very authentic desire to be helpful and to get you a great dining experience! She can be a bit difficult to understand, but I mean that with absolutely no disrespect.Great tasty food, healthful, delicious and nutritious with great service! Now if they could just create a lunch menu!

This is real authentic Thai food. My wife loves the Crab Rangoon. She is also a big fan of the Hawaiian Chicken. I am more of a burger and fries kind of guy but I have to say that the food here is really pretty good. This is the second Thai restaurant that has been tried in Effingham recently. The first one didnt make it but this one seems to be making a go of it. I truly hope they can make it. The staff seems very nice. There is a little bit of a language gap but not so much that communication is impossible. Overall a pretty nice restaurant and worth a try. You never know for sure if you like or dislike a different cultures food until you actually try it.

Im so happy this place is here! Ive been there probably 6-7 times in the past two weeks. The owners are so sweet, and everything is so delicious - not too heavy, great flavor, options to make it spicier if you want. I especially like the steamed dumplings, the Tom Yum Kai soup (spicy!and the Forest Basil sausage stir fry --- but everything I have had is terrific!!
