ClayOven Tandoor in Lake County
Privilege
Outstanding food. Fast service! What else could you want?!
Food and service were great. Atmosphere was ok, but not important to me.
Our favorite Indian food!! Last time we were in service was excellent! We love the butter chicken
MoreWe were looking for something a little different for dinner the other night and remembered ClayOven Tandoor. We went there and had a most enjoyable meal and drinks with incredibly warm and gracious service. The spicing of our dishes was perfect and our taste buds were very happy. Our thanks to the staff at ClayOven Tandoor for a wonderful meal.
MoreThe service was great! Every one was super attentive. The bar has a great selection. Great meal!
MoreFantastic service and fantastic food! Will definitely visit again!
I went to a lot of different indian restaurants. But none had good service or taste. Here we got good service after 9 years. No other indian restaurant I have gone to can beat this one.
MoreThe food was divine! There was a bit of a wait time for the food to come out, but the discomfort of that could be from the fact I was starving. Some soft music playing in the restaurant would be nice, but honestly with the quality of the food I can deal with the awkward silence and utensil clanking.
MoreMy favorite Indian restaurant in Lake County! The Paneer Tikka Masala is my go to, but Reddy has the best recommendations.
MoreFirst time there, very good service and delicious food! Will definitely come back
MoreWorst service I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The server didn’t write down our order so he forgot a bunch of stuff. Then two out of three appetizers came out followed by one of four entrees, followed by the third app, followed by the other three entrees. 10 minutes later the rice came out. To top it off, the waiter told my friend he had to tip in cash. What?!
MoreA favorite date night location for us for several years - the ambience is wonderful and the service very friendly!! My favorite dishes are the tandoori chicken, mater paneer, and biryanis…but everything we’ve had has been top notch. Try the desserts too - really fantastic with so much flavor! The gentleman who makes the food takes great pride in his work and often brings the food directly to our table. Everyone here is really wonderful.
MoreWe really enjoyed the clay oven cooked experience here. When our order was ready they bring it straight from the oven to your table then remove the baking cover to reveal a hot bubbling dish with rising steam of gastronomic wonders. The wait staff were very friendy and even provided advice on how to prepare the left overs for best results.
MoreGood indian food. We often buy biriyani. Everytime when they take the order they wont forget to ask for the spice level. Tandoori chicken and chicken 65 also is good.
MoreAmbience - greatActivity - quite empty which I personally like.Food - decent taste and good quantity.Pricing - decent for the quantity that they provide..
MoreCome here all the time and we love it! Good food, and the service is good. Been coming here for over a year now.
MoreI had shrimp masala and chicken biriyani! I tried biriyani at many places but I gotta give this one the best one so far! You won’t be disappointed to get a good and quality Indian dish here! Thanks me later 😉
MoreFirst of all, let me say the food was excellent. We had chicken Tikka masala and the flavors rivaled some of the best Indian restaurants weve eaten at in London. The garlic Naan was also incredible as was the biryani. So flavorful and exotic. Where this place has an opportunity to be better is the service and ambiance. The building and physical restaurant is perfect. The tables and setup is great. However, even with less than three tables in the entire restaurant, the service really struggled to keep up with requests and to be attentive. Wait staff was often on their phone, or all together in the back when clients were trying to ask for something or new clients came in. There were times when people came to the door, waited and left because there was no one there to seat them within a reasonable time. We almost left as well, but glad we stayed. Next time I might consider ordering out from this place given the quality of the food, but with no music playing in the restaurant, poor service and long wait times for food, it doesnt really make sense to eat in the restaurant when you can solve all of the issues by eating their amazing food at home.
MoreDelicious food and friendly staff who go out of their way to accommodate you. Best place for Indian cuisine that I have found in the area.
MoreDelicious food, kind staff, always clean. Ive always had a positive experience here.
MoreSo good we came two nights in a row. Staff is super friendly, food is delicious and the portions are good. You will not go hungry!!!
MoreConsistently good Indian food, though they have cut back on the menu, maybe due to the pandemic? No dosas or mango lassi. We enjoyed the lamb roganjosh and chicken madras.
MoreEverything was great. The food is made to perfection. Came out piping hot and delicious! We will be back.
MoreThe buffet was extraordinary .Every dish was delicious .Palak ,butter chicken ,Gobi Manchurian ,daal tasted spectacular .
MoreThe food and service here are always top notch! Best Indian food in the area.
We went after a very long time after the management changed. The food was amazing - both veg and non veg. And the portion sizes were huge. Surely would want to visit again.
MoreThe food was really good we ordered the butter chicken and murg curry with garlic naan.
MoreThis place is delicious. Tandoori chicken, Lamb Vindaloo, Dal Makhani, naan.. all excellent!
MoreHave been going here for years. Great food, great service, great ambience. Would recommend!
MoreAbsolutely useless place with little or no customer service. Used to be a good place before Covid, guess it has gone down the drain down. On 5th July we went for lunch, had called in before. A dirty looking young guy with just inner wear popping some snacks in his mouth half greeted us, disappeared inside for minutes, Came out did not say anything again, disappeared again for few mins. We waited for 5 mins and nothing happened. Not a soul was there, no customers , patrons nothing. The restaurant smelt old and moldy, not how a typical Indian restaurant smells. We just walked out and took our business elsewhere that we enjoyed so much. Hindsight glad that we were not even seated in this disaster of a place. Hope they shut down soon permanently.
MoreFood a little pricey but very good. Loved the samosas and garlic naan!
The best ambiance I have seen for an Indian restaurant in the Midwest so far. The decor is classy. All Indian beers are available. The menu is extensive. Laccha paratha which most Indian restaurants do not offer is available. Chicken chettinad, chicken kadhai are my favorites. Mixed grill platter is good. Palak rice is great. Baigan bharta (egg plantis delicious. Egg masala is awesome. Cut onions, mixed pickcle is available on request. We were four people, we went for dinner on a Thursday. Weekends are very busy. Many good books are on display which we were told were written by the owner itself. Reasonable prices, good service. Tomato soup is good. Dal tadka which is a staple in Indian cuisine was not good, I think they should improve this recipe. It lacked taste and was too thin. Portion sizes are reasonable.
MoreThis is the best quality Indian food I’ve ever had and I’ve been to Mumbai twice. The Chicken 65 is a MUST have, period.I highly recommend the basmati rice. It’s the best rice I’ve ever had.
MoreCame here for dinner. Place was empty. Our food arrived quickly after ordering, and it was delicious! Lots of leftovers. Yum.
MoreDont waste your time. So many other good restaurants in the area that have great food and want your business. Arrived and we were pointed in the general direction of our table. Place was pretty dead so not sure why the gentlemen could not take us to where he wanted. This is important as he came over 10 minutes later and scolded us for sitting in the wrong place. He seemed to be very annoyed that we choose to visit his mostly empty and somewhat dirty resturant. Not sure if they use menus there as we were never given one. We waited 15 minutes and were never acknowledged other then not sitting in the right spot or offered anything. We left and went to another restaurant so cannot comment on the food but we will not be returning.
MoreWe like going here for lunch when we have a large group. The food is great, if you like Indian food. They have an excellent selection.
Moretl;dr: the food is fine but way overpricedOrdered online, no issues for pickup. I ordered the titular chicken tandoori. It was fine; nothing to write home about, but poor enough to write about it here. My partner and I were expecting more food than what was provided, and what was provided was not enough to justify the price of our single order.Sad!
MoreProlonged wait times for take away(online orders)I ordered the food online and went to the restaurant for pickup as per the pickup time mentioned in my order. Waited for 35 minutes(I enquired twice about the eta of my order), and there are no signs of delivering my order. So, finally called the online customer service (from where I have ordered), explained them the situation and requested them to cancel my order and left the restaurant. Later, the restaurant staff called me and conveyed their apologies for whatever happened with my order…which was too late….
MoreWe went here tonight and there wasn’t many people there but that shouldn’t alarm you as it was very nice. I had the chicken tikka masala and it was delicious. I had also had the chicken kebab and it was every good. I had the mango lassi and it was very good. Overall was very nice only downsides is it takes a while for the food to get down and even though there’s not many people it was very nice. I would dine here again if I could.
MoreSo the food is pretty good. I’ve had a few issues of orders taking over an hour because of some issue in the kitchen. The other reason I’m giving 3 starts is that the meat entrees are almost all sauce and no meat I.e chicken tikka masala literally had 3 cubes of chicken. If they could get this right then they have a definite chance at being awesome.
MoreI ordered on the phone for Chicken Tikka and was told it would be 25 minutes. I get there 25 minutes after ordering and waited at the front for about 10 minutes until someone finally came. I had to confirm 4 times what my order was (chicken tikkaand the receptionist kept saying chicken biryani…. As I pay for my food the guy is looking intently at my wallet which was strange. He tells me he lost a customer’s 100 dollar bill and asks me over the course of the next 10 minutes 4 times if I saw the 100 dollar bill. I get annoyed and tell him “you losing another customer’s money is not another customer’s problem”. He referenced checking his camera system while looking at me. Dude I just came here to pick up my chicken tikka. By now I’ve been waiting 20 additional minutes and it seems like they didn’t even prepare the food in the first place. After waiting even more time and hearing some words exchanged in the kitchen, a gentlemen comes out of the kitchen with light back of chicken tikka for which I paid 18 bucks for. It had clearly been microwaved and reheated. I like the ambience of this place. I just think the owners need to be more involved in management and how to actually run a restaurant. I like that this place has seen success and this review is intended for them operate more effectively. Don’t subtly accuse your customers of stealing money is hat youlost when all they wanted their chicken tikka which they had to wait for an additional 20 minutes for anyway. Do better bro. That’s not how to run a business and the responsibility is on the owners. Do better. I get it, you’re making money, it’s a business, however when I pay 18 dollars for reheated soggy chicken while being accused to stealing restaurant money it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and that’s not just because of your food. Do better.
MoreOh man, this place has character in a really good way. Our server was really interesting, and "corrected" our order several times. I didnt mind too much because we ended up having a great lunch and plenty of food. However, it was a bit of an experience. I will definitely return, and I would recommend trying this business. There is no buffet currently.
MoreOrdered take out from here and when I picked it up they made me wait over an HOUR for the food. Got home the food was cold and terrible, brought it back to the restaurant. They were rude and unapologetic and would not offer me a refund. I was sympathetic and polite but was pushed out the door. It was the most bizarre restaurant experience of my life. (I used to own a restaurant and worked in the business for 20+ years)
MoreGood for what it is. It is more Americanized, but thats what I was expecting. We ordered take out from door dash. It took longer but we are further away. The food was good. The Tika masala tasted like most others. The butter chicken was ok. It is a bit expensive.
MoreBeen here multiple times and have always had great food with no delay in pick up orders. Customer service is top notch and they are always looking to make sure your food and experience is excellent. Sad to see the one star reviews discussing the poor food. Its very flavorful and delicious. If you are looking for great Indian food this place is a must try.
MoreGreat Indian food! Friendly, helpful staff. Will definitely be back.
First time having Indian food!! The experience was excellent. Our server was so sweet & knowledgeable! Great pour on a glass of white wine too. Food came out hot and was delicious. We will definitely be back!!
MoreService and food were excellent. They have a beautiful patio in the back.
Found this local place after making a wrong turn. Turned out to be the right decision. Was a great lunch buffet spread, and the price for an adult at $13.99 was fair. The room is beautifully well lit with natural light pouring in, similar to a greenhouse effect. The meat dishes were substantial, but so too were the veggie options. The really beautiful thing is the way everything was laid out. Rather than a typical buffet line, it was decked out in large gorgeous stainless steel demes with the food kept heated inside. Somehow seemed much cleaner than other places with a lunch buffet. Restrooms were also clean. They had my favorite dessert of Gulab Jamuns. I am pleased we chanced this way and encourage you to take advantage of the lunch options.
MoreOverpriced. Not authentic. Kulfi was just frozen mango lassi.
