TERRIBLE.I experienced a number of issues with closing my account and trying to get my items back over the last several weeks, and I am very unhappy with outcome.I was informed THE NIGHT BEFORE my delivery date that 6 of my items were "lost" and would not be included in the shipment (otherwise I would have rescheduled the entire shipment). I live nearly 2 hours from my new storage unit so it was a pretty big inconvenience to have to go back for the remaining items to be delivered.Furthermore, in addition to the 6 items that were not included, I was informed that 2 other items were unable to be located and I had to file a claim. They were 2x pretty large items, so not too sure how they could have gotten lost. Perhaps they were damaged, but that is not what I am being told. Regardless, these items are both part of larger furniture units, and they were not cheap. The total cost of these items was upwards of $1000 and I am being refunded $130.Over the last 2 years I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars storing these items with this company, and this compensation and overall service is again RIDICULOUS. Also, they charge by the amount of space your items take up in the ware house (not stored in individual units!!), so not too sure how they can do that if items are "lost"....!!!!I asked for someone to give me a call to speak directly to a person and not a chat portal on the website, and received ONE call just so they can tell me to file another claim (which was denied).DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
Clutter lost 9 of my items (valued at over $8k in the course of two months of storage. Clutter where are my things? Where’s your accountability? Stop hiding behind an insurance policy capped at $2500
Yes all of the real reviews are the same. They broke by 1000$ bed frame and offered me $94. For it. I am going to fight this to the death. The movers were great but their claim payout is really devestating.Update- i fixed the bed and got paid 94$ to do it lol
After MakeSpace is bought by Clutter it is the worst. Bad customer service and more expensive. They didnt manage to deliver all my stuff when I ordered it. Dont use this company, they dont care about their customers.
This company is a scam... Their customer service is inaccessible, they lost or damaged most of my items, they didnt honor their insurance policy to reimburse me for my damaged items (they offered about 5% reimbursement per item), and they continued charging my monthly fee after my move out... I would advise others to stay away!
My experience with Clutter has been so bad that I am filled with loathe every time someone mentions the word Clutter. They came in on the day of the move, carried my items downstairs and ran away leaving the items in the driveway. This company even charged me $100 for the move and wont refund this. Its been 2 months I have been trying to connect with one of their sales rep. no one responds or calls back. This company is a scam. They always cancel the move and charge $100 for last minute cancellation which was done by them. Save your money- dont plan a move with them ever.
Very disappointed.Used to store my apartment for 2 years while I was back home with family.Moving back to NY — finalize apartment lease a few weeks ago .. schedule my Clutter drop off for September 2nd of all the stuff I’ll need to live: bed, couch, clothes, pots/pans, kitchen stuff.About 65 hours before delivery — they send me a text saying that they have needed to reschedule my delivery to September 11th.That’s 9 days of living in an empty apartment with no bed or way to cook. Or even a place to sleep.Attempts to reach out have been lots of hold time followed by being hung up on over and over. Each time they answer and pretend like they are looking for solutions (I’ve offered to go pick up myself or they can delivery anytime of day). They haven’t offered any help or compensation for staying in a hotel while I wait (just refund my last 4 months of fees!).Also — just helped a friend move with Dumbo Moving and they took much better care of the items while packing them. In my initial Clutter experience they handled things very roughly(for example they wrapped up my dresser in a moving blanket.. then tipped it sideways and pushed it down the stairs like a sled on a hill and chipped my couch with a nice 5 inch splinter). And .. lastly .. shady billing practices. I initially filled out a form about how much stuff I had and they suggested a 10x15. I didn’t end up sending quite as much stuff but they assured me it still took up the full amount of space. But now they are magically offering to save me money after paying for 10x15 for 2 years to keep all of the stuff in a 10x10.Would definitely recommend using ANY other company.
I never leave reviews, but feel compelled to warn other customers since this has caused me so much frustration and additional cost. I am so unbelievably disappointed with Clutter - Ive used them a couple times before but something with operations has gone seriously down hill - be warned do not use them!! I scheduled my move weeks in advance as Im moving into a new apartment with my boyfriend for the first time, and they canceled on me 3 days before my move. Im so bummed and frustrated because all I got was an automatic email telling me they had to reschedule and that the next available appointment was 12 days away...I tried working with customer service to fix this and all they offered was a $100 credit which doesnt come close to covering the additional costs this will cause me. I took the day off from work for my original appointment and made various other arrangements that I now will need to cancel/move and pay fees for, not to mention Ill be without a bed, clothes and all my belongings for almost 2 weeks. I will never ever be using Clutter again and am so bummed because thought they had great potential, but I dont think they have any regard for how important these dates are for customers and their lack of professionalism and customer service in dealing with this has been appalling. Save yourself the headache and cost and use different movers!!
STAY AWAY!! Do not use their storage service unless you want them to destroy your furniture or lose your belongings. They will give you $1/1pd and they would assume each box is 45 pounds. Technically they can open your box, if they like what you have, steal it and then give you $45. RUN AWAY! Destroyed my mattress, “lost” at least 1 box, and what was delivered was smashed boxes. Already reported them to the bbb.
I had a very simple move scheduled with Clutter. I paid the deposit they asked for 48 hours prior. The next morning, the day before I was supposed to move, they attempted to charge $2000 to my bank. Then they canceled the move and charged me a $100 cancellation fee. I had to rush to find a last minute mover. Please do not use Clutter to move. Just don’t. Dumbo movers was able to accommodate a last minute move at a very reasonable price. No hidden fees. So use them.
This is a scam of a place BEWARE. They will raise charges when you’re not looking. They have zero customer service when you need assistance.
Do not use this service/website. I used them and the movers scratched the hell out of my hardwood floors and then the Clutter claims department declined to pay for the damage despite immediately contacting them while the movers were still there. They refused to get on the phone with me and their supervisor and just in the chat box told me to file a claim which they then denied. They also during the move increased the price of my storage and the move despite me telling them exactly how much stuff i was moving on the website before hand.Highly unprofessional. They try to save money by forcing you through their "online" service center.
I am sitting outside my building watching what I thought was removal of abandoned tenant trash from building next door and I realize, wait, no this is being moved in! THIS IS SOMEONES stuff!! I hear banging of items and see them rolling items in those large commercial laundry bins but made out of cardboard. I dont know if the owners took apart their own furniture or not but there is this media wood and glass piece taken apart in pieces in this big rolling laundry bin with no blankets nor protection between them sitting in with stress being put on the pin joints. The ikea chest of drawers has packing tape!!! across each drawer to the side of the cabinet to keep it from opening..yes...straight on the finish (veneer or wood or finish would still get ruined)! These guys dont know padding or packing saran wrap and they are supposedly a moving company. Id be very careful before hiring this company.
I HOPE THIS COMPANY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS. WARNING - they charge you on the 24th of the month so if you move out a few days later they charge you for an entire month!! Let’s hope you don’t move on the 30th! This company has been a nightmare from start to end. They’re trying to call me two days before I move to tell me they can’t deliver all of my items. I’ve been paying $500 a month for over a year for this service.
This company literally broke every piece of furniture I have. Not one piece, everything. They are not communicative at all and very difficult to work with. Stay far away.
Worst storage company Ive ever dealt with. On the day of pickup they stood around for over an hour waiting for their computer system to be back up, mind you Im paying hourly, then they didnt have enough equipment and it ended up taking over 8 hours for a very small one bedroom apartment. To be fair, they did give me a partial refund but the real issue came when I tried to get my items back. This month I moved from NYC to Chicago so I needed my items from storage. I made an appointment for them to deliver my items to UHaul who would then ship them to Chicago. Since I was 1000 miles away I made sure to talk to customer service to find out what I needed to do since I wouldnt be there for the delivery. They told me that I had to add a Day Of contact which I then immediately called UHaul and got and sent to them. Feeling like everything was good I went to bed with the delivery the next day.I woke up at 6:30am my time to a voicemail and text saying that since I wasnt there they were leaving and not delivering my items. Since then I have emailed, called, chatted and all I get back is deflections. A person from operations was supposed to call me back and never did. Half the emails were copy/pasted and it was clear they didnt read a word I said. Ive now had a claim open on their site since Monday with no response. I still dont have my bed to sleep in and on top of that they tried to charge me a $200 cancellation fee that never should be there in the first place and they still havent removed.Never use Clutter. I assume that complaining on Yelp will finally get them to do something which is just disgusting customer service.
Love this company. they worked with me when I couldn’t afford to the my past due rent and delivery fee.
UPDATED REVIEW:It took some persistence but ultimately the Clutter office came through and made what I considered a fair and reasonable replacement offer for damaged/lost goods- above and beyond the basic protection plan and what they were contractually bound to do.There are clearly growing pains with the acquisition of MakeSpace and Clutter seems to literally be cleaning up that mess. While I still stand by the fact its unnecessarily difficult to get someone to speak to at Clutter outside of email comms it seems this is something they have acknowledged and are rectifying. Once that happened,+ the revised claims quote gave faith that they truly were trying to provide better service and customer service.Kudos to Hailey at Clutter for really turning it around! While Id be more careful with my protection plans in the future I dare say I would consider Clutter again in the future!------Keeping the original, you can tell I was seriously frustrated!-----Terrible customer service after storage and moving storage damaged $1,500 worth of belongings - not even mentioning completely lost items. Their claims team is nonexistent or perhaps inundated and incapable of returning an email because of how inept the service is.Strongly suggest you look ANYWHERE else for moving and storage needs if you care about your stuff or have even a hint of expectation that things are returned in the manner they were taken.
One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.I was a 2+ year long customer of MakeSpace, which was recently bought out by Clutter. My experience with Clutter has been absolutely awful.- My rates were hiked by 25% while new customer quotes for the exact same storage amount were significantly lower rates.- After 45min of sitting on hold with Customer Service, I had a representative hang up on me within 2min of having a conversation.- I’ve had a manager call back scheduled for over a week with no reply. When I called again they refused to transfer me to a manager because of “unusually high call volume” even though I’ve been waiting longer than a week.I’m closing my account. Scheduling delivery has been expensive and a painful process. Do not recommend this company!
I definitely would not use this company again. First they came 3 hours late, then took hours to wrap the bulky furniture (bed, side table etc.and load them unto the truck. I did all of the packing of the smaller items into boxes myself before they got to my apartment and they still took a long time (3 people). All of that didn’t bother me. It was when I requested my things three years later. My bed got destroyed, an exercise machine I had was broken, legs broken off two decorative tables. I put in a claim for them and I was reimbursed. So unless you want your stuff broken and go through the headache of replacing them, I honestly wouldn’t recommend this company. In fact, it’s because of this experience I have a new philosophy. If it has to go into storage, you don’t need it. I ended up donating and tossing a lot of clothes and shoes.
Do not work with this company. They will charge you hundreds of dollars a month more than before and then claim that they alerted you in an obscure email months ago and that it was your fault for not clicking through to digest a complex pricing structure chart that still didn’t actually list any pricing relevant to you.Any company with good sense would look to take care of a long time customer as opposed to make a quick buck, but not Clutter. They’ll take your money over your loyalty, and for that reason I’m out, never working with them again and actively advising people to never use their services in future.
Will pick up and drop off your belongings conveniently meaning you don’t have to go to a storage unit yourself.
Like other reviewers have mentioned, the movers were great. The company, however, is a nightmare. They lost an entire bag of mine, have been unable to locate it, and refuse to offer compensation for items that go missing in their storage. Dont use Clutter!!
This company is truly one big con. They treat your items like garbage, they do not have many windows of delivery available so if you truly need something you are out of luck. Their customer service team is truly horrible, they will merely appease you with their words (sometimes not even thatand then provide no action. They will increase the size of your storage unit but will not decrease the size when it is not longer necessary (they claim they increase and decrease the size of the unit by what is being stored). They also increase their prices without any warning and will not honor any pricing for a delivery even though you had a standing appointment prior to their price increase.Their whole schtick is to make the clients life easier and not as stressful but they have damaged my items, blasted music while working (there were people asleep at that time), blocked the other tenants and one of their workers asked for my number. They will hold your items hostage even if you no longer want to store with them. You HAVE to get your items delivered to you if you want to close your account even though they have treated your items horribly and some, not all, of their workers are extremely unprofessional.I highly do not recommend this storage company. Do not believe all the cute pictures of the moving teams on Yelp with customers. I was happy with them for a few months and now I have deep regret. To make a long story longer ..... They will provide low entry pricing and a pleasant experience the first 4 months and then they will increase their pricing without notification, damage your items and provide horrendous customer service. Just get a regular storage unit. Save yourself the headache.
I strongly advise against using Clutter at all. The list goes on and on as to issues with, extremely horrible customer service. My move should have taken 2 days. I choose the largest package they had available. Put in the description, I had 18 rooms, it was an enormous house. Just to be sure that they wouldve been fully prepared. Literally, that was a joke, the circus that arrived, there are no words to mention 😳. They turned a two day move into 1 week. Charging me 3 times the original cost, and still didnt move everything. The moving experience was an absolute NIGHTMARE. I would have been better off moving the entire house myself. Added offense, is them breaking my $2,500 bernhardt dresser, and refusing to compensate me for it. ABSOLUTELY 💯 AVOID USING CLUTTER, THE DISRESPECT AND INVALUE FOR YOU AS A CUSTOMER IS NOT WORTH IT. Im just going to have to choke this up as one BIG loss. Now assuming that everything is damaged.
First off i will start of by saying this company is completely unprofessional, way over priced and has additional cost. First problem i had with them was i was booked for the end of February for storage for a month, now February is a short month (28 daysi was charged march 28 when i was moving first week of April because to them i had to move exactly one month but that makes no sense if a lease starts beginning of the month not the 28th. First red flag 🚩! Second, the company broke a shelf of mine, scuffed the floor. And than. I found out they boned my laptop and brand new AirPods than rewarded my stuff as if nothing happened. However i know exactly how i placed my packing so i am well aware someone touched it. One of my skulls broke as well when i purposely placed it a certain way so it wouldn’t but than it was moved to steal the laptop and out of its original spot. 🚩. Additionally ontop of all this i was charged an astronomical price for the month. More than i pay in rent in nyc. Absurd! Do not work with clutter! 0/5
Update: the movers themselves (the individualswere great - considerate and careful. This review is about Clutter as a corporation: This is truly the worst company. I had to choose a delivery date three weeks out. Just hire more people! Then my delivery was delayed by a week, they opened up the delivery window to EIGHT HOURS starting at 7 am, wasted my entire day. Part of my stored furniture is now "delayed." Do not recommend. They are a nightmare.
I had very unpleasent situation with this moving company! I was not their customer and I m glad. I will never hire this people! One of their trucks blocked the street, Berry St in Williamsburg and after I asked them kindly to move the truck so I can pass by, they were very rude and refused to move it, yelling at me and being really disrespectfull.
They low ball you with the estimate and then take their time moving padding up the cost.My move in. Clutter sent the wrong size truck, had to wait for a bigger truck for 3 hours at $150 an hour. Of course by signing the form they all ready have you on the hook. Then they hide behind their corporate structure and play stupid acting like the left hand has nothing to do with the right hand. Avoid Clutter moving co. you will be better off.
Stored few items in clutter for past 6 months. I used pick up and deliver options. Hassle free, transparent pricing, easy process and reasonable price. They gave all my items in the same shape how I gave them. Thank you clutter.
When we moved to NYC our realtor recommended Clutter, said he used them himself w/o problems. In the one year we have been w Clutter, they have raised rates dramatically, completely changed their billing policy and fee structure and when theres a problem, the nice people who answer the phone can do NOTHING to fix it. We are getting everything out of there as quickly as we can. STEER CLEAR.
Cancelled less than 20 minutes after I made the appointment and they still charged me even after I explained the situation.
DO NOT STORE YOUR ITEMS WITH THEM... I stored a few of my things quickly due to lockdown and covid.... the condition of my items when I got it back was awful they scuffed and damaged expensive YSL boots. They shattered my vases and they ruined my neon sign.... after filing a claim I was told these were minor damages... or pre existing even with images that proved otherwise. Please research other companies and go with one that values your items! I would hate for anyone to be in the same situation as me now.
This review is in accordance with the appointment and pickup process. With that being said, I received a mailer inviting me to get a quote and at first glance Clutter was going to be more expensive than what I was paying for my current storage unit. Cyrus called within a few minutes and was able to match my current rate plus give me 30% off of that rate as an incentive to switch. I decided to go for it. Less than a week later I received a notification from my current storage facility letting me know my rent was going up! Good timing. If I had any doubts before about switching, they were now gone.On the day of the appointment I received a text with a map showing me where the movers were and I was able to track them until they arrived. Both of the guys were friendly and took good care of all of my belongings. It took about an hour for them to completely empty my storage unit and label, pack and secure all of my items neatly into their truck.I was worried about my stuff going to some facility somewhere in New Jersey but to be honest I never visit my storage unit anyway and I only have it until I find a bigger apartment. Its awesome that the pickup is free and included with what your monthly payment is. So far, Im feeling good about having switched!Update: getting my stuff back from Clutter was an absolute disaster. Multiple broken items and you could tell there was no care at all taken with my items. Filing a claim for the broken items was an even bigger disaster and if you don’t take their insurance, don’t bother. They completely destroyed a very expensive coat rack I had from crate and barrel and then offered me $20 based off of the weight. While it seemed like a great idea to have it all away somewhere out of mind, it was clear the people handling my items didn’t care about it since it was just stuff to them. Would definitely not recommend based off of the way my stuff came back to me.
