Highly recommend! We called in for a corporate event / taco day for 40+ people with just under 24hrs notice. All the food was fresh and hot and arrived on time as promised. Everything was packed well and ready to set up for our "build your own" taco bar! This family run business does not disappoint! Cant wait to schedule another taco day!
Fantastic. It was national taco day so everyone sampled a free smoked brisket taco that was delicious. Will order that as my entree when I return. Chocolate tres leches was decadent.
The street corn and birria tacos were amazing! Very glad I tried them both. I also tired a classic torta, which was also very good. Im really impressed with all the food.
Absolutely amazing authentic food! Horchata was a great drink! Margaritas are very good as well. Tableside Guacamole is a must!
It was better than I thought the alcohol drinks were good I would definitely go again they had flavor in their steak tacos and their guacamole was amazing I have been wanting to try them since they opened up and I’m glad I finally did
Forget about LaTolteca! My family and I found this gem, El Rey Azteca, for authentic Mexican food. Highly impressed with our meals, service was wonderful and prices were fair! Nice dining atmosphere, too! Loved our friendly and thoughtful waiter! Our food was perfectly seasoned and very fresh. More people need to know about this place! We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!!!!
Delicious food ! The food was done very fast I enjoyed every minute and every bite .. BONUS the bathrooms are the cleanest bathroom you will ever see .
You Need To Know? Came to dinner with 5 people & we were immediately seated, no wait. We ordered everything from nachos, burritos, poblanas. The food came out quickly, service was fast & friendly. Everyone raved how good there dishes were. The frozen drinks were amazing as well! Definitely worth another visit. Cheers to El Reys! Now You Know!
I love the food and atmosphere here! And having a gluten allergy, they cater to my needs!
This place right here.... amazing!!! 3 of us ate and i enjoyed a margarita all for around $60 . Food was delicious to say the least, the decor is great and our waiter knew what he was doing. Cant think of a negative word to say. We were on vacation but Ill definitely be making a trip back.
I absolutely loved this restuarant. Our waitress/bartender was supper nice and gave us tips on what to do while visiting the poconos. Their strawberry mojito is the best mojito Ive ever had! I would definitely eat there again if I were to visit that area.
I used to love love this place. But recently everyone I eat there I get a stomach ache. We all feel uneasy after eating there. It’s a shame because I would recommend this app place all the time to people in the past. I don’t know if there was a change or what happened. The owner is a nice person I hope they get better but won’t be going back.
Excellent!!!! Food tests and services are so good and excellent. First time vegetarians food in Mexican Restaurant too much test. We love all staff for good service and families. We all friends and family members happy with this restaurant. Even mr Kevin For Barr member excellent service.
Absolutely loved it the table side guacamole was seriously good. The music was a little loud for me but Im an old guy. go figure. From the outside not to impress it but as soon as you step in the door and see all those desserts there in the refrigerator things started looking up for me.Yeah Im definitely going back.
AMAZING experience! Authentic food with great service from bartender Kevin. This was our first experience here and he gave us the best recommendations as menu has so many delicious choices. You have got to check this place out!
Been here multiple times either dinning in or taking out. Every single time the service is top notch and the food is to die for.
While out of town for work I stumbled across this restaurant for dinner. When I arrived I parked in the plaza parking lot. I walked in and found the bar in the back and sat there. Kevin was the bartender and he was great. I started with the patron margarita and it was very good. I wanted to try the regular margarita which was pre-made and I didnt like it so I ended with the merlot. For my entrée I got the shrimp fajitas and it looked great. I dug in and I enjoyed it. The rice and vegetables were also very good. The bill was very affordable and I would return.
Another great meal! I got take out.
It happened to be Taco Tuesday so that’s what we ordered. We sampled the shrimp, chicken and beef and all were good. The guacamole was made fresh at our table side and it was delicious! The margaritas were too sweet for my preference and a disappointment. I tried the classic lime and the mango; both tasted like a tiny bit of tequila with flavored syrup.
Very good food. Next day we saw there was another charge and they took care of it very quickly! Very impressed!! Also… you gotta try a Strawberry Mango Margarita from here!
The food was very good. Service was a little slow but it was mothers day and the place was very busy. My food was wrong but they corrected it and it was delicious. I will go back again.
Food was Excellent, the México city al pastor tacos are awesome, service was a little slow but Mainly because there was a lot of people, my had the mayan burrito, it was too big for him but he enjoyed it a lot.The flan as a dessert is the best way to go, prices are very good and reasonable.
We tried this place on a whim after seeing their Taco Tuesday special - tacos taste great, have good portions. The Wednesday night burrito special is also really good. There js table side guacamole service if thats something youre into, there are plenty of drink specials, they all look really good. All of the wait staff have been great, very attentive even when the place is busy. I like that they type in the orders on card readers and bring them to the table when youre ready to pay for an easy check out.
Wonderful dinner. Tacos from the owners home region of Mexico. Delicious. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Cerveza was Modelo Negra, on draft. Always a plus for me. And I treated myself to the flan. Nicely presented and delightful.
I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. We went there for my bachelorette dinner and the staff and owner were absolutely AMAZING! They all went out of their way to make it a truly special experience! They provided exceptional service and the most delicious food and drinks!! I wish I could recommend a millions times
WOULD RATE A NO STAR IF I COULD. Worst place ever. Slow service if you get any. Rude staff. Arrogant and has no care for any customer. Wait at front counter to be taken care of and all the staff just walks passed you like you dont even exist. VERY VERY VERY RUDE WOULD NOT EVEN RECOMMEND IF THEY WERE GIVING FREE FOOD....I FEEL TARGETED AT THIS RESTAURANT BECAUSE I SPEAK ENGLISH VERY MUCH FULL OF RACISM... Even the manager is very rude and just targets and attacks.
Delicious food and drinks, very generous portions. The staff and owner are absolutely wonderful! They went ABOVE AND BEYOND for my best friend’s bachelorette dinner!!! You guys are the absolute best, y’all rock!
Normally pretty good. I l like the food. The 25 minute wait for my first drinks was a little tough to swallow since they were not busy but the Bartender took the time to practice his dance moves instead of making drinks. Soooo there was that.
Delicious and authentic. Skip the chain restaurant and come here. Excellent margaritas also! This region needs more restaurants like this one.
I found the food to be pretty bland and dry. My fiance enjoyed his however. But I would not recommend. I got the enchiladas poblanas and there was barely any mole sauce. The chicken was very dry.
Some of the best Mexican food Ive had in a very long time. This spot is about an hour from where I live but its so good that Im willing to make the drive for it. Cant beat their taco Tuesday specials! The decor is really cool too!
Omg the food is so good!!! Never going to another Mexican restaurant in the area again lol...
Great place food was very good and the guacamole they come to your table a make it fresh you can se as they make it for you love this place I will come back for more.
Check this out. El Rey Azteca is a pretty dang good place to have a Margarita and a few Birria Tacos. It’s rare to find a good Authentic Mexican Restaurant in North Easter Pennsylvania and this one nailed it in all categories. The complimentary chips were warm with a small bowl of some decent tasting salsa. It’s taco Tuesday today so I ordered their special of Tacos and a Margarita which were both tasty. Table seating area, Bar, and Restroom were very clean and recently freshened up. The staff greeted me with a smile and were great throughout my visit. I recommend this place to you all! Stop in for a taco and a drink when able. Stay safe out there my peeps!
Listen. I know tacos. In fact in high school I was called The Taco Kid because of how good I was at tacos. And this place has EXCELLENT carne asada tacos!Restaurant is clean with beautiful colors. Staff was lovely. And the chips and salsa (also the name of of my 80s synth merangue band in high schoolare fantastic.
This was my first time back at this restaurant since the pandemic. I understand business has been hard due to the pandemic and it is hard to find staff. I have always loved eating here, but it has went downhill (possibly due to management change). I walked into the restaurant to blasting music and flashing lights. It is now more of a party setting with boring staff rather than a family restaurant like it used to be. Today is Tuesday, when they serve the $2 taco. We were immediately given chips yet sat for 10 minutes, waiting for our server to come. Our drinks took a while to come, what was once the best lemonade I have ever had now tasted like water. I was given a new one that didn’t taste much better. I ordered ONE taco as the special and so did the rest of our table. Our server didn’t notify us what exactly the special is and neither did the sign. After waiting 15 minutes, our food comes out. We were given 3 tacos per plate. I asked if these were the $2 tacos and the person who served the food said no, but went back into the kitchen to investigate the issue and didn’t come back. The cheese quesadilla came out piled with cheese and grease, making it nearly inedible. The tacos were good but we were unknowingly charged extra for lettuce and sour cream. Our $2 tacos now cost $9.99 per plate. The sloppy cheese quesadilla costs just as much. We paid $5 for two lemon-flavored waters. Disgusted with our experience here, we just simply paid in an effort to leave ASAP, instead of complaining to them as they seem to not want to resolve issues within their restaurant. El Rey Azteca, please do not offer specials if you are not going to serve them. I will not recommend this place to anyone nor come back. Do not come here if you like background music to enjoy your affordable meal.
The food here is excellent! The chile relleno is the best Ive ever had and the burritos are huge and remind me if ones I had in San Diego. The chips and salsa are freshly made and the service is also great.
Have been here numerous times and will definitely return many more. The food is excellent and authentic, best Mexican food in Wilkes Barre by far and prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get.
Food was delicious. Went after work had the mango margarita, coworkwer had strawberry margarita which she said was very strong. We had the dinner specials 1 & 5 and chimichanga pablanos as well as the tableside guacamole. All of it was delicious. They also carry RC which is my second fav soda (after pepsiso that was a plus. Will be back again 💕
The employees here were so nice, the table side guacamole was delicious and for us driving 45 minutes the food was worth the drive.
You could close your eyes and point to anything on the menu and it would be delicious!Get the table side guac. The hibiscus tea is a must.I wish that corn on the cob was in season longer so I could get more of the Mexican Street style corn. The corn tortillas as grilled to perfection and able to hold all the meat and toppings without falling apart.Dont get me started on the mole - I could talk about it forever - do yourself and get something with the mole
Ive been here many times and each time including ordering take out has been great. The al pastor street tacos are my favorite. The mixed drinks and margaritas are top quality.Super friendly staff, clean restaurant, and very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend, the rice is amazing!
The table side guacamole was fresh and delicious. The gentleman who prepared did not skimp on the jalapenos per my request. Very flavorful in every bite! I followed that with the Mayan Burrito which was a grand slam! It is a chorizo burrito with fried onions and even pineapple in it. It comes served over some chips and has a delicous souce covering it with cheese. I will definitely be returning here to eat again, and will be suggesting this place to people I talk to about food in the near future.
First time here so we grabbed a few burritos on the way home. The multi colored is the Azteca, the cheese covered was the classic with chicken and the 3rd was Mayan burrito. I had the Azteca and it was packed to the gills and very filling.
Excellent authentic Mexican food and beverages. Crispy tortilla chips, tasty salsa, and great main courses. Great service, our server was Rosa and she was helped by several others. Highly recommended!
I am very picky and I was really impressed when I walked in. The place was very clean and our server Kimberly was attentive but not in a coming over to ask if everything was ok when your mouth is full way! Our food was so delicious. We will be going to Wilkes barre way more often. My new favorite place 🥰
First time at El Rey and I we had some of the best Mexican food in the area. Service was excellent and the waitress was personable and helpful. Food was delicious with huge portions. House margarita was tasty but did lack on the tequila. Asked for less ice on our second margarita too.
Food was pretty tasty although portions were pretty small when compared to the prices charged. Our waitress was really friendly, though it took forever for our food to come out. Id definitely give this place a try again, though they have some definite areas for improvement.
I came here with the family and we were all very pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. One of us ordered the burrito and it was ENORMOUS; definitely the biggest burrito Ive ever seen. Someone else got the torta with chicken and it was very tasty too; the bread had a nice consistency and the chicken was perfectly prepared. As for me, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and they were excellent. I got them with the garlic sauce, which Id recommend getting instead of the diablo sauce which the waitress warned me was extremely spicy to the point of making people choke sometimes. Just in case, she brought out a little sample of the diablo sauce so that I could try it before officially making my decision, & she really wasnt kidding. Normally, I love spicy food, but the sauce not only burned my tongue but my throat too, and just the smallest taste of it actually left me coughing and chugging down water. None of us had any dessert since we were stuffed, but it looked excellent based on what was brought out to other tables. Anyway, we were all very pleased with everything, and hope to come back!
Delicious authentic Mexican cuisine with helpful and friendly staff. Because it was my first time in the restaurant staff brought samples of their signature dishes and sauces for us to try and helped find great food to eat! Bonus, it was for a great price!
