Luigi was a fantastic host, food was impeccable, atmosphere felt like home!
No comparison Just perfection
What a gem of a place! Hospital was absolute top notch as well as the knowledge of the cuisine! Very beautiful and authentic experience. We will be back
Bonanno is a true tour of Southern Italy. Luigi and Max are professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about all the wine, spirits, and food served in Bonanno. The mozzerella di bufala is especially good. Id highly recommend trying this place out!
Very small boutique restaurant run by authentic Italians with small, authentic Italian dishes that are good to share among a few people. They also have an attached store where they sell basically everything thats on their menu, including drinks. The staff is very knowledgeable about what they are serving as well.
Simply one of the best simple meals I have ever had on the Hill. Both managers helpful and picked my wine. Rock solid 5 star. 2 small plates were perfect .
Great service, Max and Luigi are so knowledgeable about wines. Great date spot!
Great little place in Federal Hill. Drinks are amazing and so far the food is just as good! Will be coming back.
Absolute GEM in Providence! Finally restoring what it means to be Italian on Federal Hill. Unfortunately, I dont think it will be appreciated enough by the ignorant typical clientele begging for veal parmesan and a pound of pasta. But if you want real Italian culture in a modern setting this is the place.
Very hospitable, and delicious wine.
Very mediocre hospitality. I have been calling and leaving voice messages multiple times a week for the last month or two to make a reservation; however, the calls are never answered or returned. I have lost my desire to dine here and suggest other people not to waste their time trying to make a reservation here. There are MANY amazing restaurants in Providence that have so much to offer.
Since Id heard so much about this restaurant, I wanted to make a reservation for dinner to celebrate our sons birthday. I called the restaurant last week. No one answered the phone, and the voicemail box was full. So I called the next night. Once again, no one answered the phone, and the voicemail box was full. So I called the next night. Once again, no one answered. This time, though, I was able to leave a message to let them know that I had been trying to make a reservation. I left my name and phone number. No one called me back. So I called back again the next night. Same deal. No one answered. I once again left a voicemail message with the same information. However, its now days later, and no one has returned my calls even though their voicemail greeting says that calls are returned "in the order they are received." Utterly ridiculous and unacceptable practice for a restaurant. We have totally lost our desire to dine there. This is certainly NOT the spirit of hospitality!!
I’ve been waiting for a long time to go here. I called and talked to Umberto, he was very nice and got me scheduled to come in at 5 PM. He opened the door greeted me like family and seated us. All the food was amazing, and the wines were great. It’s not about going out and just eating, it’s about the whole an experience. Umberto makes the night so special because of his amazing personality, he’s warm & inviting. The girls cooking were so polite, then his family came in later, little Italian adorable kids sitting behind the counter perfectly behaved. Most of their food, and the wine are all imported from different parts of Italy and Sicily. It’s definitely an experience. When you’re leaving, and the owner hugs you just as tight as your own family.....well, what do you say? Go here!
The single most overrated place I have EVER been. Besides it is a fraud. Wine overpriced. Owner fake. Worse than anything else, food not prepared on site....there is no oven, no cooktop. Food is REHEATED in toaster ovens and induction pans. Limited refrigeration. No fresh cooked items. I suspect food is prepared in another local restaurant and reheated. Food needs to be brought into the restaurant via the BATHROOM, can you believe it? STAY AWAY.
Local favorite! Small restaurant with a warm feeling. Delicious food paired with imported boutique wines. Highly recommend!
Hands down best Italian restaurant in the area. Amazing and puts the others to shame. Zero parmesan dishes on the menu...its that good
Great food! Umberto is a great host! Wine selections were great! Truly gives the meaning to Mom and Pop restaurant. Felt lucky that my wife and I were able to get a spot for dinner. Highly recommend!!
What a treat. Such a memorable dining experience. Umberto welcomed us with open arms, 45 minutes after I called to see if he had a table for our family of four. The passion and pride in his and his wifes upbringing and family ties to Southern Italy were apparent in everything from their recommended wine selection to select ingredients that incorporated into every dish. He was an excellent story teller and guide to our "no-menu restaurant" meal and each of the five dinner courses brought out. His wife (the chefappeared twice herself to clear our plates and check on us. This casual recommendation from another visiting colleague proved to be a culinary and flavorful delight. I look forward to returning here in the future, and next time I will plan ahead and arrive with an empty stomach!
A very small family run authentic Italian restaurant.not the most comfortable sitting but you soon forget that when the food arrives .wonderful food great pasta ,antipasto full bodied wines and a Lemon tart to die for .not the place o go if you are a big meat eater ,but the best Italian food I have had this side of the Atlantic. We were sat quickly, make reservations! It has taken a while for me to get reservations here. We got an amazing bottle of wine- i recommend the 50$ one :the specials were all great, simple food with many great options. It is definitely like an Italian grandma cooking for you. Meatballs could use a little work. We will be back to try some pasta!
WOW! Just wow. This gem of an Italian restaurant can only fit ~10 people total at a time. You must have a reservation, but if you can get in-- youll be welcomed with warm, open, Sicilian arms. The owners are an Italian couple who serve up a pre-fixe menu daily and what theyve got is what you get (no menu otherwise). Amazing wine pairings from the same región as their family. Such a cozy place. A must try for anyone scoping out the Atwells/Italian scene.
What a unique experience! It was a very small quaint little restaurant (holds about 18 people). There is no menu, the owners are Italian and serve what they made for the evening (about 5 courses). Each dish was excellent and not necessarily what I would have ordered off a menu, but that was the best experience. Each course was also paired with a wine selection from Italy that the owner imported himself and is only available through him or one other venue in Boston. Because its so small, it takes months to make a reservation. It is very pricey but a really unique experience, we booked our second reservation right then!
Great food, wine and service. The pomodoro pasta was outstanding.
Our experience is a sad one. My daughters and grandson gave us giftrocket gift certificate and suggested Umbertos. For the past 6 months we have called to make reservations. The answering machine picks up and says to leave a message. It then says the box is full. Didn’t matter when you called it was always the same.Mind you I wouldn’t care if they were booked 6 months or more in advance. The problem is you can’t make a reservation !I don’t imagine the food can be that good that we couldn’t prepare it ourselves.Unfortunately for them they will never get my business. I wish them well and hope that when the newness wears off that they remain successful.
As we received each dish of the 5 courses he explained what we were getting in the neatest way making the experience totally memorable. They were wonderfully attentive. This was on a Company trip but would enjoy having my Wife and Daughter experience that with me. It was so fun.
What an unbelievable experience. Real Italian food for the motherland!!! No menus, just given what is made.
I just dont get it.Way too many details about ingredients, sourcing & backstory from the waiter.I know-- I understand-- its Traditional Real Peasant Style Italian. Just make it better, OK? Overly described food--totally underwheming.
Another fantastic dinner at Enoteca on Federal Hill. This was our third visit. The host makes you feel welcome as if you are in this familys home. This is a menu-less restaurant. They prepare a unique and authentic 5 course dinner served leisurely so you really enjoy the food at a nice pace. You will not find chicken parmesan here nor a lot of heavy sauces. The menu changes every day and has been different on each of our three visits. Make a reservation as seating is limited but that adds to the ambiance and homey feeling once you sit down. Best Italian restaurant we have ever been to!
This place is by far the best in Rhode island! Umberto himself is the best host around. Very personable as he covers the floor and his wife is amazing cooking the most detailed dishes on a few hot plates. We dont how know he she does it. We went twice in 2 weeks and are booking again.
We really enjoyed it. It was like eating at Uncle Mikes only with strangers instead of family (and store bought wine instead of homemade.)
By far the best Italian on federal hill! Umberto and Lia do it right, and you immediately feel like part of the family.
We have dined with Umberto over 5 times now, every visit was accompanied by warm and welcoming service, amazing entrees and delicious wines. You will not find a boring night here, just home made delicious food. Bring your friends and spend some time on federal hill with Umberto.
Its the best place on Federal Hill or in the state of Rhode Island where you can get true Sicilian food that your palate can never ever and will never ever forget they have Alberto has the best wine cellar that I have ever known if you dont go here for dinner youre definitely missing out on something great.
Definitely the most authentic Italian dining experience ever. You wont be disappointed.
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Umbertos. The restaurant definitely lives up to its reputation!!! We did as most of the reviews recommended, gave back the menu and ordered the chefs special for the night. It was truly a wonderful experience that exceeded our expectations in every way...food, service and atmosphere. Dining at Umbertos makes you wish you were Italian.
Amazing food and service that makes you feel like one of the family. Whats not to love?!
Went here for our wedding night dinner. My wife and I got the supreme dinner. Everything was amazing and so filling. It is pricy, but well worth it.
Tiny intimate restaurant that has fabulous Sicilian food! Great wine… great hosts too!
My wife and I along with another couple (their 2nd time our firsthad an amazing experience. The pride taken by the both of them shows in their cooking and service. It was as if we were at their home. We made another reservation before we left to return in 2 months. We strongly recommend going and having the amazing food and dinner experience as we did!
My boss took a group of 30 to Los Andes. What a great meal and great service. The place was packed but the service was outstanding and the food was too. The chef prepared several family style apps, entries, and the sangria was following. We ate like Kings!!!
This place is hard to book! For a double date, I called two weeks in advance and still couldnt get the time I wanted. But this place is worth the hype! This place is very intimate. I think it seats less than twenty in doors and maybe 10 outdoors. Its family owned and the owner and his wife make an appearance at every table. Dishes are family style which is absolutely perfectWe go the stuffed peppers with lamb, fig with honey and Gorgonzola bruschetta, fresh mozzarella, antipasti and three pastas.I literally loved every dish. I cant wait to go back for more indescribable meals.
Best place/ best experience we have had dining in Providence. A Must!!! Amazing food and staff.
If your looking for good homely Italian food look no further. This restaurant has the freshest good in the area and because its so small the owner of the restaurant waits on you and treats you like family
The fresh Mozzarella was amazing. The service and atmosphere were perfect.
Great food, better atmosphere. Its like coming into your Italian uncles home and being feed.
So Nov 16, I sit down in this 18 seat restaurant and was truly amazed by the dedication of Umberto and his family to Italian cuisine. Awesome food and overall amazing ambiance. Truly a gem in Providence RI
Not as good as you would expect given the pricing. Probably traditional food, but its really just bread served in ways that dont feel inventive enough to justify themselves. Very tightly packed spacing as well, felt claustrophobic.
I have been lucky enough to eat here twice! First they make you feel like family. They could not be anymore genuine, warm and friendly. I am a first generation Sicillian American. The food tastes like home to me. I am also from Brooklyn, NY and this blows away by leaps any place I have eaten in Little Italy or elsewhere! I love it here its by far the best spot around.Pete & Kim
This is a family run place, but the food is in the top 3 places in all of RI. Umberto is a fantastic host and is always friendly. This place is the closest experience I have had yet to actually being in Italy. Let him pair your wines with your meals, sit back and enjoy.
Umberto!!!! He is the soul of this place and his wife the heart... Great food, greater service and attention to detail. I would love to visit this place again!
Simply the best!!! Simple Classic Italian dishes cooked with the best ingredients!! By far THE BEST meal weve had in a long time! Weve eaten here at least twice a month since we found it!! Umberto and Lea are gracious hosts and strive to provide the best service and food for their customers. The restaurant is small so call ahead for reservations. Remember big things come in small packages!! BRAVISSIMO !!!!
