Omg look out!!! You won’t regret this place and make sure you leave room for cakes🤤
Lovely interesting salads and amazing cakes
Absolutely stunning and creative food options, nice coffee, friendly staff and a great little courtyard garden which we only just discovered after 6 months!
I really wish I could give Fig zero stars, but will have to do with 1. It is such a shame as I used to love this place, but I will never be back. I have just been on the end of the worst service I have ever experienced, from a male front of house staff member (I only note the gender so as to not taint the other staff). Condescending and rude only just begins to touch the sides. Belittling customers for asking a simple question (can I have poached eggs on toast?indicates that you shouldnt be there. And I wont be there again either.
Sensational coffee, handmade cakes were divine 😋
Called an booked lunch at 12.30 for 5 people for my mother in laws 70th birthday lunch. Arrived early went to counter to say we were here and we’re clearly an inconvenience. We were waved to a table at the front which we were to find our selves. We sat down we’re brought 3 menus for 5 people. Table was sticky. Took a while to order which was ok at the time didn’t think much of it. Menu was limited no options for kids. Service was… well average to be honest. Any questions regarding some of the options on the menu were met with an eye roll. We Ordered food which came out and was nice. Hadn’t finished eating when we wanted to order coffee and we’re told they had another booking at 1.30 and they wouldn’t serve us coffee but would move us out the back or would give us a take away cup. We declined. Why would you take a booking and then one an hour later. My husband hadn’t even finished eating. We clearly weren’t wanted there. We got the message you could have told us about the whole hour you were giving us when taking the booking I would have gone anywhere else. So disappointed just wanted to give my mother in law a nice lunch for a special day. I’m not one to write review or complain but this was sooo disappointing.
This place has quickly become our favourite cafe. Coffee and chai are excellent, and the home made cakes and slices are absolutely delicious. Lunch menu is also very good. Staff are friendly and helpful. We didnt feel the need to try anywhere else.
This cafe has some of the best dishes and baked goods in town. Should be in all the broadsheets, magazines etc. can’t recommend more for a higher end cafe
Fast service, good food and coffee, beautiful decor. Small but diverse menu, with good quality ingredients. Very busy on a weekend.
Lovely food but limited menu, staff are very nice
Good coffee great staff & service 👌
Horrible rude staff, limited menu choice, very disappointing and upsetting experience 😢
Amazing food and service. A must visit stop in Castlemaine.
Good coffee, great cake but unfortunately nothing vegan
I was taken to FIG .... even though l am a Cream Town kind of a guy BUT the whole experience was delightful . Staff were ever SO friendly . The Food + Coffee were excellent . The Chef swept out of the Kitchen and talked us into what we were eating .... a very talented young man . Bless their House and all who sail in her xxx
Having previously eaten on a number of occasions at the Fig Cafe prior to the pandemic and thoroughly enjoying the wonderful food, our visit today for lunch was accompanied by high expectations. Unfortunately, the food we ordered did not only not meet our expectations, it was so bad it was barely editable. My wife gave up after a few bites of gnocchi that was bland and dry, while I suffered through soup of the day, a supposed pumpkin soup that was so sickly spiced it eliminating any sense of pumpkin, only finishing it under obligation of my childhood belief of not to waste food. We both left feeling somewhat ill as the food sat uncomfortably inside. I am not sure what has happened in the kitchen, as the service was good as was the tea and coffee we received, only to say the cafe is a poor shadow of its former self.
Fantastic feel to this gorgeous little cafe in Castlemaine. The interior styling was lovely and the food was delicious, well presented and fresh. The waitress who served us was quite rude and dismissive however, which was a shock compared to how lovely the rest of the people in Castlemaine were.
Excellent food and coffee. One of the best in town.
Great courtyard space, friendly staff and amazing carrot cake! We visited again the next day for coffee and pastries which were incredible. Highly recommended.
Have only been once and only had one dish (salad platebut it was magnificent and service is fantastic, definitely coming back next Castlemaine visit.
Best café in Castlemaine — would beat most places in Melbourne and Sydney too.
Fabulous menu, beautiful ambience and friendly staff
Can certainly say you wont be disappointed. Great service and food was delicious. Atmosphere and decor so beautiful. 👌😋
Great area out in the garden - bloody fantastic muffins - and good price - coffee very good
Great staff and outside dining area. Awesome ice coffee and desserts.
Courtyard is perfect for a sunny day. Food is dee-lish. Coffee and service is great. We will be back.
And another cafe in Castlemaine closed on Sunday. It’s as if all the cafes are trying to actively discourage visitors. Fig ..or is it Pomegranate..?
Just a note for you to remember to be kind, Fig. My partner had to unfortunately cancel my birthday lunch with you because we needed to increase our booking by 2. He did the right thing by calling ahead to see if you could accommodate it, but was told you couldnt. A pointed phone call from you after we had cancelled left him rattled, so this is just a message to please remember to be kind. We were going to come back, but after this interaction, it may take some time... Thanks.
So excited Fig has reopened! Their food is just beyond exquisite, its my favourite place in town to get pastries - they do it better than anyone!!
Most delicious cafe food in Castlemaine, fabulous coffee, friendly and attentive staff and gorgeous surroundings. Everything here is just superb.
A welcoming little cafe just off the main street. Had breakfast and coffee. Fruit toast was devine and the Persian eggs absolutely delicious. The display of pastries was too enticing so they were a takeaway morning tea!
The friendly atmosphere made me feel emotionally comfortable. The main course was great and the service was quick and friendly. The dessert of home-made cake will definitely have me returning to this establishment in future.
Excellent cafe and the food was 11/10. There were 2 minor problems, firstly they ran out of soup on a cold and rainy day, thats a disaster and the service was a little slow.So get there earlier and there shouldnt be a problem.
Fig Cafe offers a fine eating experience in Castlemaine. The seating makes good use of limited space and an open fire gives the cafe a cosy and warm atmosphere. My salmon fish cakes with pickled fennel and cream was a treat. The sweet and sour taste of the fennel was a perfect complement to the succulent fish cakes and the accompanying cream gave the morsels a lovely taste. The raspberry roulade could have done with less cream and thicker layers of meringue. A few more raspberries may have been appropriate in toning down the sweetness of the roulade. Fig Cafe is well worth a visit.
Damn delicious! It was worth stopping in and experiencing. The meals were delicious. The menu was mostly pescitarian, and diverse. Inside the atmosphere was relaxed and warm on a cold day, no fuss and just what was needed as we travelled through.
Great wholesome food. Salads sell out early, best before 12:30 or expect that some items will be sold out from the menu
Small menu but delicious choices. Good coffee, friendly service.
Cosy environment, friendly staff, great coffee and delicious food with lots of vegetarian and gluten free options
Nice decor, lovely food but very limited choices, coffee not very good.
Great food and excellent service. Must try the desserts!
We stayed at the Fig last night and we absolutely loved it. We arrived at lunch time and had a beautiful lunch in the cafe. The staff were lovely and friendly. We were given a complimentary cake and coffee as we were staying in the B&B. We had the carrot cake - it was one of the best I have ever tasted. As we left the staff ask if they could recommend anything to do while we were staying which we appreciated. The room itself was quaint and perfect for our needs. The breakfast was nice - we enjoyed the homemade raisin bread and good choice of items.Great location too. Thanks for a great stay - we will highly recommend to others!
Beautiful fresh food. Comes in small serves but if eaten with consideration its more than enough. Good coffee too.
Such a warm cosy cafe with a cute fire place. Had the Persian eggs which was a beautiful folded scrambled eggs on toast with dukkah and feta. Couldn’t look past the pastries and had to take some home!
Coffee was great but the sausage roll was not enjoyable especially for the price it was cold was not heating up properly. I will come back for coffee but not food.
Very good coffee and a great daily changing display of cakes and other food.
Exceptional quality, interesting seasonal menu, cooked to perfection. Paired with great local wines.
Nice courtyard, good coffee and hot chocolates, friendly feel. Is fairly well hidden, you probably wont stumble across it but if you are looking for it, it is fine.
Waited ages for the menu and table to be cleared. Then waited to order, and finally when food came it turns out Persian eggs means a cross between scrambled eggs and omelette (not baked eggs which we expectedand they were cold! So a reheat in the microwave seemed to solve the problem for them: Too bad it made the toast soggy for us! Really small serves and just not tasty. Could do with more feta although the dukkah was a nice touch. Service could be improved and they didnt ask us if wed enjoyed our meal or if it was ok once they heated it up. Dined in this restaurant many times when it was Apple Annies and food was always excellent! 🤑☹️😢
Beautiful and friendly staff. Gorgeous ambience.
The portion of food is very small and nothing outstanding... Lovely decoration and it gets really busy during thr weekend does not worth the wait.....
