I dont know why I never tried this place out until 4 years after they opened. Excellent hotdogs with many unique different ones. The beef dogs were excellent as well as the turkey dog in my Rachel one I ordered. I will go back to this place when I got the munchies.
Excellent Korean corn dog and excellent fries.
I am not from here and I was pleasantly surprised by how completely satisfying this was. Great food, I dont think you can go wrong but I sure will find out. Until next time...
Love the dogs! My husband loves the Godfather and Karate kid themed hot dogs!! Excellent fries. We will be back again soon!
If youre on Murray or Forbes on Monday when all the lunch spots are closed, check out this joint! Great dogs and super friendly staff. Ill be back to try out all the options.
Great food and good people. The best dogs in Pittsburgh.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND MY DOGS LOVED THEIR TREATS!!!
Im a Hotdog JUNKIE!! Stopped there today for some lunch and found Heaven. I recommend you go to Frankie Buns TODAY!!! I normally stick with Brighton but this is my new Mecca. Had 2 Southern dogs, chili, coleslaw and mustard. Mind blowing.
First time I came here it was good. Just went a 2nd time and nobody even acknowledged me standing at the counter. 1 worker walked away and another was just standing there playing on the iPad. I stood there a good 5 minutes with nobody else in the store and got fed up and left. Obviously my business is not that important. Won’t return.Edit: reply to owner. I was here at 3:30pm Friday the 12th of August.
Great Lunch for me and the kids. Dogs and fries are hot and tasty.
I had the bacon wrapped dog. I forgot the name but it was delicious. My wife had the “Mr. Miyagi Doggie” and she said it was great. Really cool spot. Will definitely be back!!
Never thought Id use the adjectives brilliant and gourmet when talking about hot dogs, but this place will blow your mind.
Solid hotdogs and a great selection. I loved the Don plus the seasoning on the fries is pretty delicious too: a little salty and sweet.Out of curiosity, I got a pork egg roll and it definitely felt a little out of place with the theme of the place. The egg roll was not anything special.Great spot to grab a quick bite before a movie or on a lunch break.
It was my first time here, but I will be returning. The customer service is a 10/10 and the food is phenomenal. They serve the best veggie dog I’ve had in a long time!
Wonderful little place. Delicious dogs. Worth a stop
Really great service and amazing hot dog!! I will be back again.
I ordered here for the first time through Door Dash. My food was so good! Definitely get the corn dog!
Stopped in after work and was blown away by my hotdog. Really good cheddar cheese the pretzel bun was amazing.
Omg my first time there was last week.my daughter loves hotdogs lol and were always looking for a new place to eat.she found this place and my husband daughter and I went the dogs were great!! So many varieties now she takes her friends and well be back this weekend. Food was great
Frankie’s Bunz! The best of the best! Great place for the family and the best food in town. You can’t go wrong! Love the veggie dog option.
The owner and their staff are wonderful. The food is unique and one of a kind.
Frankie Bunz is a great hotdog shop. The owner was super nice and they did an excellent job on our hotdogs which were also actually made with top tier ingredients. I will definitely be going back and I live on the otherside of town
The staff is always beyond attentive& friendly, best hot dogs and fries ever
Very happy to find a hot dog joint that offers veggie dog options! Very inventive and yummy choices like a Thai hotdog with peanuts and Asian slaw. A yinzer fantasy 🖤💛🌭
This is an amazingly good place! Everything we tried was top notch. The hot dogs are premium quality, the freshest buns (the pretzel bun is delish), the homemade chili on the Don was delicious, their take on poutini was outstanding...But the item not to be missed is the eggrolls... fresh and homemade. The duck sauce was devine too! Cant wait to return to this place to try other items on the menu.
Delicious dogs! The shop is clean and cozy and the staff was really nice and welcoming. Ill be back!
We loved the food and the service! It’s super clean, too. We have come to admire small business owners even more during COVID and this place is no exception.I highly recommended the Rachel!
I dont know if Ive ever given a 1-star review to a restaurant before. Its a hard industry and there are usually things outside of managements control that lead to disappointing customer experiences. With that said, this 1 star review is based on something completely within managements control. They chose (emphasis on it being their choiceto offer a discount through Groupon, which my partner purchased. We were excited to try a new lunch spot and would likely have become repeat customers. However, when my partner arrived to redeem the Groupon, she was told that they had sold too many and they werent taking any more and that we should take it up with Groupon. We wasted our time doing that only to find that the promotion was still active. So we were stuck with a worthless coupon to a place we werent even treated well. An absolutely terrible customer experience. Why would a business put a potential new customer in an awkward position like that? To save the $10 they agreed to discount? Its a poor business decision and it cost them our repeat business. We went to Ds like we should have from the beginning.Edit (6/8/2021): The response to this review is exactly more of the same from this place. Refusing to take responsibility for their own business decisions. They would rather put a potential customer in the middle of their issue with a coupon company rather than apologizing and winning us back and making more money over the long term.
Decent little shop. Went on a whim and was pleased with my choice. Got a regular natural casing on a pretzel bun with dark stone ground mustard and sweet relish. I also snagged an egg roll that Ive been hearing about. Washed down with a Boylands birch beer.
Man I ordered the Elliott Ness dog and it was the best hot dog I ever had.. staff was very friendly.. I recommend everyone to at least go there once..
Great place for a unique hot dog! They have all different kinds. My favorite is The Don. I also recently tried Mamas Grilled Cheese. It was good but saturated in a bit too much butter for me, hit the mix of apples, cheese and bacon is so good. They also have fries and other sides. The owners and workers are extremely kind and helpful. Id definitely recommend!
Delivered the wrong items. The restaurant didnt call me concerning my order when they knew the items were incorrect. No compensation actions have been taken after I called them twice.Honest business wins more customers, and taking advantage of costumers drives away potential patrons.I was very disappointed with how they handled customers.
Went today for lunch after buying a local coupon. Such a great experience! The pretzel hot dog buns were so fresh and unique and the dogs and toppings were fresh and delicious! Also, their poutine really hit the spot. Perfect fries, gravy, and curds and a really generous portion! Definitely plan on going back!
Growing up on Loretta st I was raised on Bill Ung’s egg rolls. They were delicious. I went to Frankies to find out if they were the same! They were better because I haven’t had them in yrs. also while waiting for my egg rolls obviously I had a dog and to my surprise it gives the O a real run for its money. And since we can’t have the tea garden or the O anymore Frankies is perfect
I love the dogs and the fires, and the selection of local root beers and the like is great. The the only reason I docked a star is that the price is a bit high; if they could bring that down a bit, this would be an easy go-to lunch option. As it stands, its a great occasional treat.
Really delicious, simple food. Fries are crispy & fluffy, cheese sauce is great, dogs are gigantic & everything is reasonably priced. I get lunch here when I miss home. Easy to access & not in a super high-traffic area which gets you quick delivery. Clean.
One word: deliciousThis was by far the best hot dog Ive ever eaten. I got "The Don" which is a chili cheese dog with onions; my partner got the poutini and an eggroll. It was all fantastic! I cant wait to go back
******IMPOSTER ALERT ************NOT THE TEA GARDEN******Please DO NOT go here for the supposed Tea Garden Egg Rolls. "Taste A Memory" was the title on the cover of the Clipper Magazine, I immediately got excited to potentially find my beloved childhood egg rolls. I was hoping a family member of the former East Liberty Tea Garden finally resurrected the deliciously unforgettable recipe. I was sadly mistaken, as I walked into a hot dog shop, I should have known better. If this establishment possessed The Tea Garden Egg Rolls, hot dogs would not be the headliner of this business. Do not be fooled!!
Hair on my hot dog, forgot 2 pork shrimp rolls, and asked for ketchup mustard onion on one hot dog, got onion and about 4 tablespoons of mustard, no ketchup. This all in one order. Fries werent good, threw everything away
This is my favorite hot dog place. The reason I Im upset is they say theyre open until a certain time yet twice in a row Ive called and no answer. Please be more specific on your site as to the correct times. But their food is the bomb!
Very casual drop in spot, best for pairs or single drop bys. My family of four scooted 2 tables together to make it work.We ordered:- The Don- The Elliott Ness- 2 plain hotdogs- 1 pork and shrimp egg roll- 2 fries- 2 drinksOur total came to $45, and that was before adding on tip. For comparison, we frequently eat well at Chick-fil-a or Chipotle for $30.That said, the dogs were very good. Loved the pretzel bun. I tried the egg roll because Ive heard stories about the famous tea garden egg rolls from years ago, and that these were just like them. Ended up not being my style, but I dont count that against Frankie.Eating was kind of... uncomfortable and messy. The dogs are wrapped in foil, no plate-type holder, so the messier dogs like my Chicago dog were unwieldy. Wobbly tables, etc.I dont think these things would have bothered me so much had I not paid almost $50 in total. We just felt like the value for amount spent just wasnt there.Ill probably give it another honest try. We love the local shops here in Squirrel Hill and want them to succeed!
A welcome addition to the squirrel Hill eateries. Calling it a hot dog shop doesnt do it justice. This place will definitely make it into my dining routine.
The poutine wasnt bad. I also bought the "Mr. Miyagi" dog. The sauce was really bad and the slaw was a no.My Advice:You have a batter that taste kind of sour for the dogs. But the sauce was horrible with that hotdog. If you really want to do an Asian based sauce. You would maybe mix a sambal with a sweetener, maybe Ketchup. Then mix with mayonnaise. The saltiness of the dog and the sour batter needs a totally different sauce to counter the taste of the batter dipped hotdog. When creating the mixture you have to actually taste these combinations, before presenting them on the menu. The slaw??? I think talking to people who are familiar with Asian cuisine is highly suggested. Asian fare is about balance in flavors. The slaw was too sour and a flavor of licorice was strong. I dont know what the ingredient is but that slaw should be reconsidered.
Great dog and great service. I ordered their classic dog with kraut, ketchup and mustard on a wheat bun, and it was delicious. The shoestring fries are phenomenal as well. What more, all of the products used here are biodegradable: drink cups, lids, even straws. The owner is a Squirrel Hill native and extremely friendly. So glad this place is on Murray Ave.
Hot dogs are overpriced and mediocre at best. The fries are only alacart and $4.50. There is no platter option. Fries were weird blanched shoe string fresh cuts. Too greasy, not great. Served in a greasy paper bag that soaks through before you can eat them. Dog and fries with no drink was $11.50. Only two tables in the place. Service was not very friendly. The best thing they offer is not on the menuThey will make Bill Ungs egg rolls for you with 24 hour notice.
Average Food High PriceI love a good hot dog shop. So the variety of Frankie Bunz is welcome in Squirrel Hill. However, they do not bring a quality that matches their prices. For $14 you I got a decent hot dog with pickles, ketchup and onions, below average french fries, and a drink.Yovis downtown sets the standard. For $9 you get the same meal with excellent french fries and a better dog.Additionally, they do not do a Chicago style dog. They equated it to asking for a Primanties sandwich in Chicago... I am not sure the analogy holds since no less than 3 places serve them (Yovis, Dees, and Franktuary). If you are looking to variety in your eating in Squirrel Hill it is worth a visit. But if you want quality for $14.... Checkout Bull River Tacos up the street.
Excellent new addition to Murray Ave. The employee at the register was very patient and helped explain all the menu options. The hot dogs were delicious and the poutine was excellent as well. Large selection of bottled root and birch beers (including some local favorites). While the food is a little on the pricey side (~$30 for two people), it is very high quality and worth the money.
Great dogs with a crunch and the bun was fantastic! (White bun is sweet almost like a Hawaiian roll). The grilled cheese looked tasty on the grill, maybe next time.
Amazing hot dog and bun French fries fresh cut cheesesfresh everything is very clean neat organized Definitely have to bring your family herethe go to spot in Pittsburgh For fresh hot dogAsk for your fries extra crispy though the BestAlso grilled cheese is absolutely amazing..
Grabbed a hot dog on a pretzel bun with a few toppings. It was delicious and came out quickly. The employees were nice and asked if we were enjoying our food.
