Cool part of history. I just learned about this place not too long ago and figured I should check it out. I wish the state would get involved to help fix it up and preserve it.
Olsarge gave a nice tour and history lesson about the fort..
The caretaker of the place is a degree-ed historian, and very knowledgeable about the history of the fort, and how it, the settlers, and the local tribes interacted. He took over an hour and a half to go over the history of the site, the operations of the fort, and the various recovered artifacts.
Remarkable history here, from paleo-Indian to late 19th century. Among other things, Fort Harker was a significant support and supply post for the US Army following the Civil War, and several original buildings remain. The museum, while small, is filled with important, revealing artifacts. Upon arriving, I was propitiously met by the fort’s lead historian and gifted storyteller, Mr. Heller, who was singularly generous with his time and knowledge.
Very interesting and very knowledgeable gentleman gave us a wonderful history lesson on the Kansas Smoky Hills area.
Best tour I have been to of a museum. Middle of Ks has so much history.
Awesome history!!!
It was a really nice museum. The guy giving the tour is really nice.
Definitely worth going. We got a great personal tour from Greg; we spent three hours there and it felt like one!
A wonderful place to learn about history
Neat place. Cool history
Lesser known Forts but so worth it. We are giving them a 5 and we didnt even get out of the Guardhouse! Greg is an awesome Interpretative Guide. We are headed back with our spouses at a later date, hopefully! Well worth $10.

Very interesting, if you like history. The interpretive guide (Gregwas good at his job, rich with details, facts and stories.
Great little place to visit if your into history. Theres a map there that shows what the town looked like back when it was just a fort. If my memory serves me right where the bank is now used to me where the old forts morgue used to be
The Ft. Harker museum is like stepping back in the time of the 1860s Cavalry soldier and pioneer. They display period artifacts found at or near the site. Totally family friendly staff. Youll love it!
A fascinating historical site.

A surprisingly fun spur-of-the-moment visit. A great volunteer stayed open late for us. A wonderful historic building with a great story.

Nice piece of history off of the beaten path. Friendly and informative staff. Recommend small groups for the best experience.
Historian was very knowledgeable and informative. Was able to tour both levels of the structure. Learned the origins of "for whom the bell tolls" and "grave yard shift". Many artifacts on display. If you enjoy history, well worth the time.

Great place to bring the kids for a look back into the past. The people in Kanopolis are always super nice too.
