Visiting from Chicago and googled best burgers near me. Came in here because of the great reviews and they did not disappoint. Fast, friendly and best of all delicious smash burgers. You cannot miss this place!
*Amazing* burgers, will 100% return if I find myself back in LA. These burgers just taste "right", even makes you wonder why there arent other places that get it right like these folks.
Been going here for 11 yrs. This was my favorite burger in L.A
Last day to get one of them bad boys before they shutter it’s door for good.
One of the original nouveau burger places, closing 4 January 2021. It’s aged well but is no longer as distinguished as it used to be - the lamb burger is now a regular menu item too.
Hey you, yeah, YOU. Get off your computer and get in the car to go pick up an order. Theyre on the cusp of shutting down, and youll miss your chance to have one of the best burgers ever made. Smash burger, Juicy Lucy, go get it. Now. Stop reading and go!
Best Burger I have ever had hands down never fails!!! Always juicy and great!!! I like the fried egg on mine which is like icing on the cake (burgerAlways good fries and a Super tasting fries sauce..Also have a top notch tuna sandwich when you want something on the lighter side.. my wife and I go there at least twice a month and she loves the veggie burger also. The ChipotleMayo is Bomb and suoer great with your fries ...Still the Best Burger in Town... No Question
Best food period. The most amazing burger, fish and chips and friend chicken sando in town!! My go to restaurant and favorite delivery spot in la. If you haven’t been- go. You will not regret it.
Their lamb burger is on point! Unbelievably delicious. I honestly cant comment about any other item in their menu because I have the same thing every time I go there.
Really good burger and fries, good for a night out where you have no idea what/where to eat!
The burger was really good probably one of the best burgers Ive had. Next time Ill have a beer it looks like they have a great selection of beers. Very friendly staff.
I had the sliders, lamb braised in wine and chocolate on brioche with carmelized onions and split an order of fries with my husband. He had the rosemary sausage, cheese and egg sandwich, also on brioche. The lamb was tender and delicious. The rosemary sausage sandwich caused me to buy a pound of the sausage, so I could make breakfast sandwiches with it at home. We have recommended it to my friend who lives in LA, and he has been there multiple times and raves about the hamburger and fries.
Finally found a place where I can go for some quality of burgers in Los Angeles. I like the menu here because its simple and doesnt require me look on it and understand what was the menu, the food all about. It was savory burger for a very pocket friendly price. We will definitely be back to try other items on their menu.
Im afraid to leave a great review for this place because I dont want it to get too popular, lol. Every time we go were seated immediately and the service is great. The wedge salad and the patty melt are my regular go tos and they always impress. (They keep all of the fried cheese that falls off into the pan!I found this place accidentally and Im so grateful. Its so charming and amazing. Thanks guys.
Get the lamb burger. Its amazing. The other one we ordered was meh. And the sweet potatoe wedges didnt impress me. I usually like sweet potato fries but these were too big and thick, which just gives you a lot of mushy sweet potato and not as much crunchy/chewy texture. But do yourself a favor and get their mint lemonade- its to die for. And their gingerale aint yo typical Canada Dry gingerale. It has a prominent ginger flavor but none of the peppery taste that many ginger sweets have. So good.
By far one of the Best burgers I’ve had in a very long time. Comparable to the burgers they used to make at the Beverly Hills Hotel ( Polo LoungeI realize not everyone has been there. Sooo like the Polo Lounge The Golden State uses extremely high quality beef. Not greasy but juicy. Fresh tasting and does not have the gristly chewy things that sometimes wind up in hamburger meat. I have enjoyed them on 3 occasions and they have been consistently greatness! Bun is delish. I had the sweet potato wedges, crispy not greasy. looking at the French fries they are the same, great. The employees serving these up are cool but not the to cool for school LA types that can’t be bothered. These guys were personable and just nice down to earth peeps. It’s a favorite for sure.
Small location, can get busy and crowded sometimes but the have great burgers! My favorite is the lamb burger medium rare. Get the amazing jalapeno coleslaw as a side.
Nice, tasty Burger. Good Service and a good atmosphere.
Burger was very good - I would eat it again any day. All the employees were accommodating and mellow. Only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that I paid $27 for a burger and a beer. I know it’s LA - but thats a bit steep.
Burgers live up to the hype. Its counter service which is a huge plus, too. No. Waiting for tables or tipping. Beer selection is equally good. $16 for a burger is pricey but its a cost that makes sense with the quality ingredient and thus meal you get.
This is a hamburger joint that is more than a hamburger joint. It is one of those order-at-the-counter, and they bring you your food places. But they have a lot of offerings which are not just a little unusual, they are THOUGHTFULLY unusual.( It seems to me, that these days, many restaurants throw in exotic or unexpected ingredients just to make them seem special, when it doesnt necessarily make them better. Or even good :)It has a genuine neighborhood vibe , good energy without being crazy noisy, and if you are a meat eater try the lamb-burger!
Might sound blasphemous but I prefer these hamburgers to fathers office. The place is less pretentious and the quality has always been consistently good. Ive only had the burgers here but they do specials on different days off the week!Service is great, make sure you order before you sit!
The burger is amazing of course it comes w Ba con !! Didnt see that coming !! For the price worth it !!
Excellent #burgers and a more than decent selection of brews both on tap and bottle. The curry ketchup is divine. If youre like me and hate the overhyped, trendy westside pseudo-artsy vibe of fairfax, this place makes the whole trip to that side of town worth it. A literal diamond in the rough.
Ordered their flagship Cheese Burger medium rare, one with fries, one with side salad. High quality burger, so good! They have a big selection of brews also.
This Burger place in Los Angeles is great! Its a must to try if your looking for a big juicy burger. They have delicious sides and many beers to choose from. Its modern and has plenty of seating.
Staff is always friendly, they always answer my goofy questions and suggest things to try. Weve been there several times now and the food is just amazing. Lamb burger, Awesome. Regular burger, Awesome. No-meat but looks like, tastes like meat burger....Awesome. Fries, with the Curry ketchup...oh so freaking good. ;not everyone loves the stuff but my husband, friend and I, FANS! Fairly fast, consistently delicious, courteous staff, pretty clean tables, you should go.
Ive been going to the Golden State for about 5 years now. Hands down the best burger in all of Southern California and I mean that sincerely. Ive tried all the popular places from umami burger to the counter to in n out and nothing compares to this burger plus they have delicious fries and other sides and dishes. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Only downside is that they have a very small dining area so u may have to wait or grab it to go but still well worth it. I highly recommend it, 5 stars!!
I ordered the chicken sandwich and my daughter got a grilled cheese. It costs a bit more than other places but totally worth it. The quality is top notch, and that’s what I’m all about. Fries were crunchy, sandwich was hot and fresh. That grilled cheese was the best looking grilled cheese I have ever seen.
Great burgers and gelato for dessert. The staff is nice, the place is clean, and the atmosphere is good. It is a small location, though, so it is not good for groups larger than 4, maybe 6 if you go when it isnt crowded. Edit: the gelato is gone now!
Golden State has delicious burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. I highly recommend stopping here for a bite. We ended up having a long wait, and the server courteously offered us drinks on the house. Honestly, my partner and I were so lost in conversation we hardly noticed.
Yummy burger place with Turkey and Veggie patties too. Friendly staff.Burgers tend to be super tall.Fries are also very popular here,...but I haven’t tried them.Everything is cooked to order, so it’s definitely not fast food.@chesterthesockmonkey was spotted here too
Some of my favorite burgers in town featuring the best Sweet Potato Wedges in the world! Seriously, the only downside to this place is that the wedges disappear so quickly from my plate.Other positives: I can add fried eggs to my burgers. Can’t stress how much more taste I get out of my food when there is a rich yolk drizzled all over savory medium-rare meat.Place can get a little busy quickly and seating is limited.
Burgers are cooked perfectly and i liked the simple cucumber salad as a side. I think if you are hungry then one burger wont be enough. Probably will be more tasty if have double patties.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful. The burger was very good. A little too well done but I ordered medium well. In hindsight I should have ordered medium. I wish I tried the lamb burger, maybe next time! Prices were a little bit higher than Id like but overall good experience.
The food is unique, but very good! Tried their lamb burger and their bacon cheese burger and they were both great! The only downside I would say is there is limited seating there so you cant bring large groups
Awesome burgers that has a juicy patty with fresh vegetables and good sauce. The sweet potato logs were awesome. Friendly staff and limited seating, due to the popularity of the place. A definite try if youre looking for a burger!
Everyone recommends the burger - and if youre a burger person, go for it! I however, would like to add a strong recommendation for their hot dog - a little less expensive, a little less filling, but just as much delicious! Amazing flavors, amazing toppings, and an all-together excellent experience at The Golden State. Note that during the dinner rush on the weekends that this place can get a little crowded, but the place does move rapidly, so getting a table to sit down at is not that hard.
GET THE LAMB BURGER!! - Food was amazing, staff was really great! Sweet potato fries are unlike anywhere else. The Wife had the grilled hot dog w/ Sour Kraut, Caramelized Onions and the house made Curry Ketchup, SO GOOD! Beer and wine list was awesome and really made for an even better dinner experience. Parking is tough and will require a little walk but hey, thats LA. Prices are moderate for a gourmet burger joint like this and include a very large portion along with a great music rotation spinning on the Ipod. Glad I found this place on Instagram and really wish I could take them back home to Florida!
Parking is a b***h, for sure. Its super expensive! I got a lamb burger came with a side of fries for $15 bucks. Burger was good, but kind of expensive.Patron 2:I got a tuna melt sandwich on ciabatta bread add regular onions and avocadothe guy charged 1$ for onion and 2 for avocado. kinda pricey the sandwich was like 15$ on its own and it came with a side of fries. Spent 20$ with Tip. got a cup of water the water is very whack (it really isits warm and damp not very refreshing, theres also no ice available.overall the sandwich tasted really good and i enjoyed it but for $20 i can go anywhere and get whatever i want, i will probably not visit this place again. its a gotta try type place.
Id actually give this place 3 stars; 2.5 for the burger and another half for the sweet potato fries. The Burger, which consists of arugula, white cheddar, bacon, aioli, and ketchup (I also added caramelized onions), really lacked flavor and was too over priced. The sweet potato fries, however, were awesome. They were thick and perfectly seasoned. I could consider coming back if I am ever overcome with a huge sweet potato fry craving.
I really loved The Golden State burger. I made sure to show up for an early dinner as I have heard that it can get crowded with limited seating. I definitely wanted to try "the burger" for my first time there. The burger was great. Very crispy bacon and the meat was flavored well. I also really enjoyed the sweet potato wedges. I took off 1/2 a star for the horrendous parking and 1/2 a star because the burger wasnt that special or unique.
Came yesterday with my wife and had a great time, but wasnt super impressed the food for the price we paid.I got "The Burger" which has burger, bacon, cheese and aioli, and I added avocado. A side of fries, and their draft root beer. The fries had a good crunch, and were seasoned well, but the burger meat was really bland. The garlic aioli was super overpowering in flavor. There was a chili aioli that they bring out for my wife with her side of fries, and I wish I had that sauce on my burger, cause it was delicious! They had TVs to watch the game, and the atmosphere was cool. I was just a little disappointed with the overall good experience.
Definitely not what I expected when I walked in. For some reason, in my mind I imagined this place to be much larger and look like a gastropub, rather than this more fast casual burger joint such as the Oinkster in Eagle Rock soon to be also in Hollywood. As with the name, you can everything served to be hyperlocal, local or from "the golden state."You go inside place your order at the counter and they give you number to put on your table so they can bring you your burger. Similar to any fast food joint such as Carls Jr. or Fatburger. They have a small list of craft beer on tap and to get water youll have to get up and get it yourself as you will not have server here. The burger here at Golden State was beyond my expectations! It was $11 (expensive for not have table service), but definitely the quality (or betteryou can find at any gastropub. Get the burger cooked how they recommend it and youll have it super juicy and tasty. You get a choice of a side and I opted for the sweet potato wedges with garlic aioli sauce. Ive never had my sweet potato fried "fat" and enjoyed it probably more than the thinner fries. The burger (still mildly pinkis made from aged grain-fed Harris Ranch beef top with melted cheese and bacon. While enjoying my burger to sounds of underground hip-hop (not commercialized crap you here on the radio today), I thought to myself, if I had one of these in my neighborhood, probably eat here often! Despite the lack of a server, they were very attentive in cleaning up after me when I left and also asking if I enjoyed the burger.Highly recommended! One of the best burgers in LA. F.O. has a special place in my heart, but the Golden State is now up there as one of the best burgers Ive had in my life. Next time, Im trying the beer float, and their fish and chips.
I can dig it. One of the better burger joints in a city that has the best in the world. The classic burger here is quite good, the beer selection exceptional for the area. Funky, vibrant, and at a decent price range, its one of the places worth visiting on Fairfax. Yet I cannot say the burger was the best in LA, or in the top 10. Yet if you have a hankering for a burger and cannot be bothered to deal with the hype parade, this thirty seat spot will satiate your craving.
The best burger Ive had in la and I have had many many burgers in la. Very impressed. Simple and delicious, with absolutely perfect fries to boot. If only they had milkshakes instead of just floats...
I was told this would be the best burger Ive ever tried, but it wasnt. It was still really delicious and it had a very unique taste, but not the best. I will return to this place to try more of their burgers, so my review could change in the future. For now I think four stars is correct, the prices are average and the waiters are nice.
One of the best burgers Ive ever eaten in my life, and I work in the restaurant industry! Every bite was like heaven in my mouth, and the fries and shake were amazing as well. Awesome food, cool place, definitely going again soon!
Hands-down the BEST burger Ive had here in LA. I ordered a burger medium-well and cucumber salad. I dont think I took a drink at all the entire meal (meat was super moist even being fully cooked). Great food, chill scene. A+++++.
This is absolutely my favorite burger place ever. Go to this place, and order "The Burger", and order the meat cooked anyway you want. I get my burgers rare, and it was amazing. This is no ordinary burger, there is no lettuce, tomatos, or any of the standard burger toppings. There is no standard here. They have sweet potato fries with a garlic aioli. I absolutely love the garlic aioli. They have the non-standard beers on hand. if you are in the mood for beer, tell the man at the register what kind of beer you are in the mood for, and he will point you to the right one.
