Very cool
Original old home with the visitor center across the street. You can take a short walk thru it.
History
That is a great house being maintained very well by the state of Missouri employees and volunteers the gentleman that gave us the tour was awesome very knowledgeable very easy to communicate with and he listened well thank you for saving the home of one of the countrys most greatest presidents great place to visit please stop by visit and buy some very wonderful merchandise to keep supporting that State historical site
Its a very neat place to see. It only took about 15 minutes to see the whole birthplace of Harry S. Truman. Our guide around the Property was very nice. The house & Property are very well maintained!!! ππβοΈ
Special
Just 2 minutes from the interstate. A small but informative piece of history. Hannah in the visitor center invited us on a free tour of the home, including her insights as a Lamar native who attended to homes dedication in 1959.
The gentleman providing the tour was kindly and knowledgeable, and the site was in great shape!
It was a random stop for my stove and I, but still only being 8 and he loved it! For was free, guide was friendly and very knowledgeable.
Such a fantastic little historic site! Our guide Hannah was so kind and gave us a wonderful tour of the property. This is a must see if youβre traveling through Lamar, Missouri.
Beautifully maintained grounds. We were there rather closing time so will be sure to stop again on our next trip to see the inside.
But I just drove by but nice place
Neat little piece of history about the presidents birthplace
What an American treasure!I was truly blessed to get a one-person tour from Daryl of President Trumans birthplace.Thank you so much. I hope I spelled your name right!
Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable took us on a tour well worth the trip
Worthwhile stop if you are a history buff. Very nice volunteer. Interesting info on the house and grounds.
Very friendly guide really knew her stuff, also
We unfortunately picked a day when the visitors center was closed so we did not get to go inside. The grounds are lovely, and the monuments amazing
Awesome find on my road trip, right off rte 49 in the little town of Lamar. The guy wanted to take me on a tour, but being pressed for time, just checked it out real quick and took pictures. The place and grounds were very well maintained.
If you like Historical stops then it was worth it. 10 minutes out of the way wasnt bad to see a pretty house with some history. Truman was a great servant.
My Favorite President the Birth Place was Great
Great experience
Free admittance unlike state parks in other states. Friendly, knowledge guide. Currently under renovation but we were able to see the bottom floor. Several hisotorical markers on the grounds .
Short, informative guided tour. Well kept site.
Small, but nice, museum plus an opportunity to go into his birth house across the street. Worth a stop to further understand a very humble president.
Guides are very knowledgeable and friendly as are the locals in this area! If you are a history buff or interested in knowing history this is a great stop. Kids might be bored but the house is small and a tour doesnt take very long.
Great little place to stop for history buffs or those who like Missouris only president.
Very interesting! Friendly knowledgeable tour guide! Definitely worth seeing!
A lovely little gem in a small town. We really enjoyed this. It is not very big but we really enjoyed the presentation from the volunteer.
We loved it. It was great to be able to see and learn about one of our presidents history. The gentleman that let us walk around was very informative and helpful.
Quaint little historical place to visit. The early home of Harry S. Truman Ive been there several times.
Meticulously maintained and a fantastic staff. Its very clear that in addition to the states maintenance of the site, the community seems very proud to.
Beautiful facilities and interesting history. Our tour guide was very informative
It would be a cool visit but after living here for 20 years not to interesting to me
A good place to rest and learn something off I-49, but site is under going some work until late 2020
Very well kept! The Tulip Poplar tree is a direct offshoot of one planted by George Washington in Mt Vernon in 1785!
Young man who gave us a tour was wonderful! Lots of fun information
Awesome stop if you love history!
The people running this are very knowledgable and it is a great stop. Very informative and a cute little piece of history. Not much to see but worth every second of it.
Great tribute to Harry S. Truman!!
Very interesting. I also like that it was a quick stop. Informative, but didnt take a lot of time.
Beautifully preserved house and grounds ... we thoroughly enjoyed our tour and our guide, Darrel, was so nice!!
Neat place, but easy to miss. I was taking pictures out front when one of the men who worked there came to me and invited me to take a tour. That wasnt my plan, but he was helpful and friendly and Im glad I took him up on his offer. Definitely enjoyed it.
Humble little place for a president to be born.Well cared for a very informative guided tour
This is a stop that wont take you long to see but is such an important part of our history. The home is restored and furnished with antiques of the time period. Be sure to check their hours before you plan your stop.
Nice little home site, not really a whole lot to see. President Truman only lived here as an infant, so its not really much about him. Trumans house in Independence would be more about him. But this little house is interesting to see the way of life back in the late 19th century.
Educational. Informative. All around generally fascinating especially for the younger generation. If you get a chance stop and check it out!
Really enjoyed my tour of the Truman birthplace home. Its a very small house, but they do a good job of covering Trumans early history and depicting what life in small-town Western Missouri was like at the time. The home and visitor center sit across the street from one-another, and the whole site is very pleasant.
Very humble beginning for a President. If you get to see his home in KC youll see he kept the humility.
