Rest in peace Mr. Reynolds
John Reynolds came as a saving grace for the Union Army that day, July 1st, 1863...In the form of reinforcements that would give Buford time to rally the troops before the entire army was destroyed. He paid the price with his life, shot and killed instantly, shortly into the first days fighting, he was the highest commanding officer to die in the Battle of Gettysburg. It is in these woods where a lone marker atop a small mound marks the spot in which The General breathed his last breaths. While many spots on the battlefield will humble you, this is one of my top spots to stop and take in the price of human sacrifice on these hallowed grounds.
Where Major General John F. Reynolds was killed. His memorial is marked at these woods.
