My wife and I had a great time, recommend taking the tour to help you know what you are looking at.
The town has great charm. The locals are friendly and knowledgeable. Its quiet and quaint. Most shops were closed when we went, therefore, I gave it a 4⭐.
Great people grounds are beautiful not much to see in the building.
Just superb...A MUST visit!
Nice workers. An informative video about the area.
Simply charming as well as peaceful
Learning History of New Harmony is amazing, visit the guys playing music outside Art gallery, unique gifts are available to help local Artists
Historic settlement. Not much to see or do unless youre looked for a spiritual experience.
Such a fun building and tour. The tour is listed as a walking tour but its actually a trolly ride!
Informative staff and exhibits!
This review is specifically about the tour of New Harmony that starts and ends at the Atheneum (which is where you buy tickets). The tour is great! I took the tour on May 22, 2022 with Kaitlyn (sp?). She was extremely knowledgeable and obviously passionate at this small town with a rich history. The tour was on a "tram", which is a golf cart with six seats. It was the perfect way to get around. We learned all about the history of the town and got to go in several of the historic buildings. Kaitlyn was very patient and let us explore and set the pace. Highly recommend if you are ever in the area. Note that you cant buy tickets online and given the size of the tram, it is best to stop in and buy your ticket well before tour time.
Its really nice inside. Theres a nice gift shop inside and visitors brochures inside. We rented a golf cart to drive around new harmony n was very nice
Beautiful town with an interesting history!
Building seems out of place, in a historic town. Mask mandates, cant take pamphlets, cant take pictures. Poor fellow working desk was stressed out, and there was no one else in sight. We left, to enjoy our day with friendly and welcoming businesses.
Absolutely awh inspiring, such a cool and historic town close to Evansville.in
Ive traveled to so many places in my lifetime and this is by far one of the most beautiful, peaceful places Ive ever been. Even when Im not there, Im there.
The history of this once utopian society is incredible. There are so many cool buildings to wander through and an outdoor church and labyrinth that cant be passed up. This town has a peculiar allure about it. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about the place and answer any questions you may have about it. They have a delectable Yellow Tavern that serves the tastiest food Ive had in some time. It had a "Grandmas Cooking" type taste and boy did it satisfy my hunger. I recommend planning on being there for an entire day to see the whole place. There is so much wonder here. I cant wait to go back!
A bit bare. The upside is they do rent golf carts and youll definitely want one to wander new harmony in.
Interesting piece of architecture by Richard Meier. The site really allows you to appreciate the building as an object. It’s a great contrast to the historic village. That’s what, I believe, makes it work. But the building is not one that is maintenance free, or even low maintenance. The whole thing needs to be power washed after they fix the leaks and repair the damaged interior finishes. Still, worth stopping at to see if one is anywhere near the area.
Really nice place to start a tour of the historic town. I highly recommend reading all about it here. They also had maps available.
Even though I was the only visitor there the rainy afternoon of 8/13/2020, I was shown the 11-minute video of the history of the town, and received my own personal tour/explanation after the video by the friendly and knowledgeable gentleman working there that day.
Went there on a field trip. The building looked cool.
Defiantly worth going back to. Not on a Sunday. Shops were closed, but still very lovely. 😊
Great historical to current highlights of this very unique community. The movie is excellent narrated by an experienced, well-informed historian. If you have the opportunity, visit the Antheneum; Make sure you allow lots of time.
Its a big 70s modern building in the middle of a field, in a small, picturesque town in the middle of nowhere. Just the fact that its there is fun and unusual. I wish visitors could walk around on all the balconies on the outside of the building because those looked neat. The inside of the building is super bright and open from all the floor to ceiling windows. Theres a little gift shop, a short film about the towns history, and two models of buildings from the towns past.
This place was very informative. We visited on Sunday, our last day, but I wish we had visited on Friday evening when we first got there so when we were out on the town on Saturday then we could have appreciated the history much more!
The facility is interesting architecturally but, there was only a small gift shop.
The staffs are very friendly and knowledgeable.
Just a wealth of information. Friendly, well informed tour guides. Beautiful building.
Love this place.. Great place to relax take kids on golf carts and see the town
Peaceful, friendly, beautiful. Loved it. Wish we could have spent more time here. Hope to come back
Striking architecture of the building. Nice views of the scenery looking out from the inside of the building. A lady there told us the origins of the building and of the town of New Harmony.
We really enjoyed talking to two staff members who were very knowledgable of the area and very nice. The town was very charming.
Love this Historic town. Grew up in the area and love coming back to visit.
This building is out of place in such a historic town but they have restrooms and a very small gift shop. You can also rent golf carts by the hour to get around the town.
Beautiful building with excellent guides. The exhibits work very well for the historical aspects of New Harmony. There is a nice little gift store as well with New Harmony -related items for sale. The best first stop for a historic trip.
Beautiful, truly innovative architectural design providing views and unique visual perspectives of Wabash River and the actualized vision of Mrs. Jane Blaffer Owen. However, this special place seems truly underutilized by its caretaker, the University of Southern Indiana. Not as much to do or experience in this place as one would imagine.
Beautiful town! I just got engaged to my fiance and I wanted to take some beautiful photos in the town he was raised in. Towards the end of my day our golf cart died on us. My amazing fiance ran all the way over to grab another golf cart because we still had 35 min left to drive around. I had been looking for houses and suggested we go stop by one I found on realtor app before we left. We had everything planed. After we dropped off the second cart wed take the car to the first cart and have my fiance drive it back since we felt bad for leaving it. But unfortunately we had to encounter a very rude man who assumed the worst yelling at us kicking us off the golf cart and left us stranded in the middle of the road.He wouldnt let us explain to him that the other cart had died. Instead he threated to hurt my fiance which I responded telling him not to touch him. He proceeded to push me out of the way.He was also saying that he was the one who watches and charges the golf cart. Funny thing was we saw him pass by when I was stranded but didnt want to help or do anything then. Needless to say we didnt get to finish driving around till 7:35 and had to walk all the way to our car.I hope this rude guy understand he ruined everything... thanksWILL NOT BE COMING BACKCANT DEAP WITH THE STRESS
Beautiful. Stopped in to look around and ended up taking the New Harmony tour. I have lived in the area my whole life and been to New Harmony countless times but never went on a tour. I learned a lot and the chance to go into some of the buildings was well worth it. The guide was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this.
Film about the area was interesting. Guide was knowledgeable
Had a very good time. I learned so much about New Harmony. Renting a cart was a great way to get around.
What a lovely place to spend a day or weekend. Unfortunately they were flooded around the park, so I didnt get an opportunity to walk around the trails. Next time. Ill definitely go back.
I really enjoy the Antheneum! Its a very interesting building and has some great information on New Harmony
Quaint little town with beautiful architecture. The Working Mens Institute Library and Museum is a must-see!
Perhaps one of Richard Meier most famous buildings, and one you can actually visit.
Really cool building and kind workers with lots of information.
Was just passing through and stopped to kill some time, t was a nice day and I enjoyed walking around and looking at all their stuff.
Everywhere you look, beautifully kept homes and storefronts. Art galleries and handcrafted, quality shopping. Golf cart rental to wander easily around town is a bonus!
Beautiful building. Staff was very helpful. Not much to see unless you pay extra to see the top floor or for the 10 minute video (we passed on both of those). Good area to park to explore the rest of New Harmony, which is very easy to walk around. There are several trails from the Athenaeum leading to the river with beautiful views.
Liked building better once guide explained that it was designed to look like a boat. A good place to begin your tour of New Harmony - model of town and knowledgeable staff.
