My dogs were able to be quickly seen and assessed and vomiting induced to prevent a possible foreign body surgery. The staff are so sweet and compassionate and explained everything well. Thank you for helping my boys!
First off, the doctors here are wonderful. They are incredibly compassionate, capable, caring individuals so this review is in no way directed at them. My issue is with the hospitals payment policy. Ive had a lot of pets who have needed a lot of emergency care and never once have I been asked to pay a $650 deposit up front. Im lucky that my husband and I have good jobs and can afford vet bills, but there was a man who brought in his dog that had drowned and didnt have the deposit for treatment. The receptionist the asked "well how much do you have then?" which reminds me of every encounter with the mob Ive ever heard of. Their prices are higher than VSEC or VMSG, but we were in a bind as VSMG was closed that evening for some reason. While I adore the doctors that treated our kitty ($2400 later), I really have heartburn with the hospitals payment policy. Its very clear that whoever runs the place is more interested in profits than pets.
These one star reviews must be either fake or from a competitor because honestly these are some of the most truly kind-hearted, caring, and honest vets out there hands down!I cannot recommend enough they saved my dogs life mighty obliged and truly indebted to you guys!!!
My dog needed an emergency C-section at 4:00 A.M. - I live in the valley and called about a dozen 24 hour vet clinics. Not one of them had a surgeon! I wasnt about to waste my time going to any of them until I knew there was a surgeon ready to take care of my dog so she wouldnt die. Horizon said they had a surgeon on call. I said "great! Wake him up and Ill be there in an hour!" We got there at 5:25 A.M. on a Saturday morning. The vet was there at 7 and all went well. So Thankful there was a surgeon available. Really not happy about all the other 24 hour clinics - not one of them mentioned having a surgeon on call and all said "good luck". Really? Its not about luck. Thank you to all the staff at Horizon! We got 5 puppies and my girl is doing great.
Wish I can give a negative star. Front desk cut me off in the middle of me explaining what was wrong with my dog and turned him away. It is Sunday and this is the only place open my baby is struggling to breath and they didn’t even let me tell them what was wrong with him before saying their closed. I got as far as saying “ hi, i don’t know what to do my dog can’t-“ I got cut off and was told sorry we’re closed. They open at 8am. It’s 8:33am. Now I have to drive 2 hours to the nearest open hospital and hoping my baby makes it. If you care about the health of your pet do NOT go here!
Im disappointed in the care my dog received. After her labs were run she was discharged. The vet didnt talk to me after her labs results or during/after discharge. The receptionist told us the vet tech would answer any questions. The vet tech who discharged our dog told us she didnt care for our dog so she didnt know anything.I received a typed up report 9hrs after discharge, but no one was willing or able to my answer questions. It felt like pulling teeth to get any information. I had to request the report they told me they would send.I really wanted to know the signs of her condition worsening. Its dangerous not to know this.Ive never had a vet not call after test results were in. Two years ago at this same location they called me after the tests came back. Their new level of care is scary and might be dangerous. Id try going somewhere else.
Wonderful caring place, save Shastas life & a puppy with not a big chance, for all the people who mentioned the money, they actually have a surgeon who will be there in the middle of the night, we called 12 big name 24 hour clinics with no surgeons, that is beyond belief in So. Cal.And when I lost a dog w another of the 24 hour clinics I spent 3 times the money & my dog passed away.
My and husband and I want to Thank the staffs for being there for our Bam Bam. He was in so much pain that it was time to say, Good Bye to him.The staff explain everything to us of he was just going to fall asleep "Pain Free" He just closed his eyes and the nurse listen to heart and she gave us the room for ourselves. They were so patience with us because we stayed there with him at least 1 1/2 they never came in to asked us to leave. The nurses were outside waiting for us and making sure we were ok to drive back home. The staff has always been great with our Bam Bam.Thank you!!
We unfortunately had to utilize Horizons services last November when our beloved Kennedy became suddenly ill. Unfortunately he passed away two days later but the staff took care of him, treated us with such profound empathy and recommended a wonderful in-home euthanasia service. As sad as it was to see him go the experience went as well as it couldve. Thank you for the work you do and we still have the cards that were sent after his passing.
Treated us so kindly, took care of our kitten chicken who has severe pneumonia. Thankful for this emergency option 🐾💞 he is on the mend with a lengthy road ahead but we are so happy they took our concerns seriously
This is a true ER. They did a great job treating our dog for an actual emergency, and there are some very caring people here. The place is clean and organized. But you wont receive follow-up care, and they will bill you for everything they can along the way.Horizon got our dog back quickly and did everything they needed to do (and probably morewhen she went into anaphylactic shock over the weekend. We were satisfied with them up to that point. However, when we were discharged, they asked me for an additional payment (on top of the estimatewithout showing me a bill. The price was within the estimate and was ultimately fine, but it was unprofessional and disconcerting to be asked for payment without being shown a bill to approve.Even worse was that we werent able to get any more details beyond the discharge paperwork about her treatment, follow-up, or readings of the expensive diagnostics that were done. When we asked to speak to the vet, the tech told us it would be easy to follow up by phone if we had any further questions. We called the next day because we were worried about her bronchitis diagnosis, ongoing cough, and thought she might need antibiotics. We didnt get a call back for over 24 hours!! When the front desk person finally called back (not the vet), we were told that she would need to be taken into her regular vet or seen by a vet at Horizon again. We paid Horizon over $1,500 a couple of days ago for overnight care. They examined her extensively and ran multiple diagnostics, including x-rays. Why would she need to be seen 2 days later when nothing major has changed? Its clear they just want to bill another couple hundred bucks rather than offering follow-up care.Bottom line, bring your pet here if they are in a true emergency, but not for anything else. And be prepared to pay more to have your regular vet follow up afterwards if needed.
I had taken my sweet, sweet dog to a local vet in Santa Clarita on a Sunday because of loose stools. He was diabetic and stopped eating. After much testing, it was determined he had an extremely enlarged gallbladder and liver. Arrangements were made for me to transport him to Horizon in Ventura. Because of the late hour, Im unable to identify the individuals who were there that night. From the time I arrived until I finally drove home close to midnight, everyone showed caring and compassion. The next day, Dr. Rhoades called me with unfortunate news of my dogs condition. His prognosis sounded bleak. I didnt want him to suffer. Arrangements were made to drive up to say goodbye to him. Dr. Rhoades was extremely compassionate and took great care to explain the process. We had a chance to be with him and most importantly he knew we were there. Thank you to Horizon. My dogs name was Mr. Darcy. I shall always love him.
Never having used an emergency clinic before, I had now idea what to expect. However, the care and concern of the vet matched by her competence brought our sweet Lab back to life! And I felt as informed and cared for as my dog did. Cant praises this experience enough!
I am writing this review for my parent In-laws. I dont write bad reviews but my In-laws had such a bad experience I have to say something. They went to the emergency room on a Saturday and after waiting for 45 minutes they finally took their cat back to examine the cat for her issues. 3 hours later they realized that their cat was still in her cage and had not been looked at at all. My mother In-law was very upset about not being Informed, nor taken care of. She asked for her cat back and the vets seemed totally fine to hand back her cat and let them leave 4 hours later with zero answers.I feel it was super unprofessional.
Im really happy with this hospital, I have 2 dogs and 1 cat, at least once all of them were here because of an emergency. Once I was super worried and sad and they calm me down and told me everything was going to be okay, they always did a wonderful job, yes its expensive, a lot, but for my pets I just care about they are safe, I recommend this place!
We just lost our Daisy abruptly the night before and while its very hard the people here made it so she was comfy and happy right till the end and they even let all three of us into the room with her and gave us a hot dog for her to eat beforehand.
The team at the Horizon was really amazing. Our dog was suddenly very sick and needed to be squeezed in at Horizon for additional test our local vet could not preform. She received great care and the team was very compassionate to how scared we were. Would highly recommend using them!
I was initally billed for items that were not even discussed. My dog needed a minor proceedure and initially no pain medication was discussed. My dog was going to be in pain during the entire proceedure. I had to ask that he be numbed. Later I was billed for this but who is to say if they actually did it. My bill has to be revised several times becuase because items would be added without being discussed. It all felt very sketchy. Its shame that these people seem use an emergency situation to extort money from loving pet owners.
When my cat, Pinto Bean, had a bowel blockage the day after Christmas, Horizon was the first place I called. He was brought into the office within the first 10 minutes of arriving and he had the best care. They could have charged thousands in surgery options but instead recommended an endoscopy first, along with x-rays, bloodwork, and an overnight hospital stay. Luckily the endoscopy was a success and they were so kind to give me updates on his care throughout his stay overnight. Its an emergency hospital so wait times and higher prices are to be expected, but Horizon really did me and my family a great service by seeing our boy that day as quickly as they could. Pinto Bean is blockage free and will hopefully stay that way! Highly recommend Horizon for those emergency cases on holidays.
I brought my cat here only because everywhere else was closed. This hospital is a ridiculous rip off. You pay them a fortune and they still try to milk you for more money. My cat wasnt given an antibiotic. Thats Veteranarian 101. I took my cat to her regular Veteranarian & she got much better medical treatment from him than at Horizons Veterinary Specialists. Specialists? It seems like the Veterinarians here just graduated. I dont recommend this hospital. My cat was not in better shape when we left this hospital. It was a waste of my time; youre waiting for hours and it was a waste of a lot of money. I would never return to this joke of a hospital.
We brought our little Maltese into Horizon on December 31, the worst possible day. Most vets were closed, Horizon was open, crowded, and on a reduced staff. But they saw Daisy, and the vet we spoke to, Dr. Jessica S. Beymer, was caring, concerned, and gave us several choices to make regarding Daisys treatment. When we made our decision, she said, "That is exactly what I would choose if it were my dog." This gave us a lot of confidence. And it has worked! We would highly recommend Horizon, Dr. Beymer, and a lovely woman named Nancy who made everything possible if you ever need emergency or other veterinary services.
Being in the medical profession myself (JD ROSS DDS INC), Dr. Scott and her team were so supportive and compassionate during our emergency visit.I initially spoke with their front office team member Nancy. We spent almost 20 minutes on the phone discussing Playas signs and symptoms. Nancy guided us through treatment options and also gave us other emergency clinics that may be helpful, due to the high volume of emergencies they were experiencing at the time.Turns out, when we really needed to bring her in, they had capacity for her and admitted her right away. Dr. Scott performed her initial exam and immediately called us with her differential diagnosis and recommendations. Further testing was needed (ultrasoundand because of the diverse speciality practice Dr. Scott’s team created, they were able to perform those tests within their facility.Such a difficult job managing the illness of our dog, but also providing us realistic treatment options and expectations while we were also emotionally compromised. We took immense comfort knowing that Playa was being treated by a team of professionals who were compassionate with her.Based on the guidance and level of care I received during my emergency visit, I would highly recommend them to my friends and family.
I would NOT recommend this emergency vet at all to anyone. This is twice now I have taken my puppy to them and both times they have turned her away . This last time she was so sick she had thrown up at 30 times twice before we even left the parking lot , they have one Dr on shift and all they could do was give us a list of other 24/hr clinics that are at least an hours drive and arent taking any new patients because they have reached their capacity. I want them to know that if anything happens to my dog I will be filling a complaint with everyone I can and obtaining legal representation.
Dr Beamer and Brook were so kind and supportive when my friend had to euthanize her 15 year old very sick Chihuahua, Mini. I just wanted everyone to know how compassionate and loving they were with both Mini and her MOMMA. They turned the sad experience into a very beautiful cherished memory and I want to THANK THEM FROM THEBOTTOM OF MY HEART💔♥️
This is an emergency animal hospital so expect to wait a while to be seen. I arrived at 9:30am and I didn’t leave until 6:00pm dr. Johnson took great care of my Ziggy. I would have waited forever if it meant getting Ziggy the help he needed. Also, the bill wasn’t too crazy either, but he didn’t need anything major done. I expected to pay more to be honest. I’m grateful for the staff here who sees pets come and go all day long and they just keep on trucking with a smile. I could never do what they do. I’m grateful to them for helping my Ziggy. I got to bring Ziggy home today and I’m oh so thankful.
They were great 2 years ago when I rushed my schnauzer there after he was mauled by a loose pitbull (sadly, euthanasia was the only option). However, last Saturday I rushed over mid-afternoon with my 4 year old cat, who was failing quickly from either an infection or possibly a urinary blockage. This time, i was turned away bc “ every cage is full” and they’re short-staffed. Upon being informed that the other emergency vet down the road was closed that day for lack of a doctor, the Horizon attendant gave me the numbers of emergency vets in Thousand Oaks (30 miles), Woodland Hills and even Santa Barbara.Thousand Oaks was also full. So, rather than make an even longer drive, I sat in my car and waited for animals to be picked up by their owners. After 45 minutes, two patients left. I went back to the door and asked if they could take my cat now. Don’t they have at least two empty cages? The attendant said “it’s not a cage problem; the technicians are all treating other pets in ICU. And those two dogs were having stitches removed.” Turning away a seriously ill animal while they REMOVE STITCHES??? Her smug reply—*They* had appointments.”And to think of all the times I’ve taken pets to my regular vet for appointments, only to be asked to reschedule due to an emergency.
I brought in my puppy one night he was terribly sick, the Dr has no compassion for what she does it’s either pay an arm n a leg or you have no choice but to try n figure out how to help your pet yourself . They guaranteed my puppy wouldn’t make it if I left back home with him , but guess what I’m very fortunate to say he is alive he made it ! If the staff is reading this just know that you guys should have just a little bit of compassion n not just want money
My GSD got GDV. I was watching her slowly die. They needed a deposit to start work to save her life, but every minute counted. I told them I could pay and they trusted me when they had no reason. They started treatment simply on my word. I then lived up to my word. Horizon saved her life. My buddy, my best friend, is alive today because of basic human kindness, compassion, and trust. I wish they worked on people. They make the world a better place... if not just mine.
On Saturday Night one of our dogs went into serious distress (howling in painso we drove immediately to Horizon. On arriving we were ignored by the receptionist, who was not occupied. After five minutes, she checked out some other patient who had been in the back and asked to see our dogs gums??? After looking at them, she informed us that they were full and not taking new clients. Then she handed us a photocopy with some other veterinary options. I am flabbergasted that we had to wait for her to tell us this. And why is she checking our dogs gums. Obviously she has instructions from her superiors and “as the receptionist” was practicing medicine with her vast education. What if the dogs gums looked different? Would they then have had room? At best, these people are dishonest, but my opinion, is that they are simply idiots. Don’t go there if you’re in a crisis. They provided horrible customer service. Hopefully their actual doctors have more knowledge and will care that the receptionist is practicing medicine on their behalf. Again, go somewhere else if you care about you pets…
Please avoid Horizon at all costs!Last month I had no choice but to bring my Pomeranian Bella to Horizon late at night after she had an incredibly high heart rate, frantic behavior, and had thrown up excessively. She had recently made a full recovery from Pancreatitis last year and started showing signs of cognitive decline recently. Around midnight we arrived, and she was taken in to be seen by Dr. Donckels. After about 30 minutes Dr. Donckels came back to tell us that Bella had either a brain tumor or brain hemorrhage, and would need more tests and extensive overnight care. Immediately she suggested and blatantly tried to persuade us toward euthanization, against our desire, but after discussion we agreed she’d remain overnight in their care with more tests being run. Around 5:30 AM we received the call to come in to say our final goodbyes, and Bella was put down two hours later. This is where the complete disregard for our loved one’s life begins. Before leaving one of their technicians asked us how we’d like Bella’s aftercare to be handled. We agreed to communal cremation and requested a clay paw print to keep for our family’s memory, asking three times to ensure that we will be paying for and receiving a clay paw print. Fast forward two weeks, and we still haven’t received anything in the mail. After waiting nearly a month, we contacted the aftercare services company on two separate occasions and spoke to two different representatives, to find out that Horizon did not send her with the proper colored tag for a clay paw print! Sure enough, I immediately called Horizon and spoke to their manager Karen who tried to put the blame on the aftercare services. She continued to insist that she couldn’t do anything and I had to wait until their Practice manager got in touch with me, and couldnt even refund the $78 they charged me for something I didn’t receive.Clara Pelton, the practice manager, finally called me a week later to issue the refund and apologize for the situation, claiming that they wrote a note on Bella’s tag that “the aftercare should have noticed, even if it was a different color.” No matter what excuse Clara tried to make, it was clear that they still didn’t want to take responsibility for a mistake that can’t be fixed. To top it all off, my girlfriend took her father’s dog to the family veterinarian that Bella used to see, and they were unaware of Bella’s passing because Horizon never contacted them or sent any records of her emergency visit. After all this transpired, I’m scared to imagine how they might have treated my baby on her final night. Please avoid Horizon and their incompetent staff at all costs.
If you want to put your dog down THIS IS THE PLACE TO COME!!! I just love how this place does not care about animals, unless they are profiting off of them! EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE WITH POOR SERVICE. They kept diagnosing my pup with different types of illnesses, that weren’t even correct. Took my pup elsewhere and they gave him the right medication and recommended great types of supplements and my boy looks a lot more better, this place did not want to help me at all unless they got money. Couldn’t even get them to tell me what was wrong the first day unless I paid them. RIDICULOUS!
This place is such a horrible place, ignore any good reviews on this place. Brought my dog here when he was sick and they didn’t tell me anything just beside that he had something wrong and I had to pay $4000. I questioned them and told them I don’t have that type of money, so they ask me to apply for a credit card. Once applied I got approve for $1000 but still wasn’t enough. They let me take my dog home that day knowing he was dying on me and give me a total of $2000 for a bill because he was there one day. They told me I had to put my dog down because he had no chance of survival. I didn’t listen to them and told them I will like to keep his treatment going but to take him home since I did not have money for him to stay there. They had misinformed me of what type of disease he had after several blood works. This place keep accepting new pets everyday while they can’t keep up with the ones they have already. Don’t come to this place if you don’t have the money to pay close to $5000.
Did not like my experience with this vet, I understand they may be overwhelmed with the sudden surge of pet emergencies but I felt like they did not do theyre job. Diagnosed my 1yr old pup with a very rare disease then on review before taking him were sitting in parking lot and immediately changed it to rat poison, we did everything we paid so much money the first time and the 2nd time just like that changed the diagnosis before blood work even started (for 2nd visit). Also not good guidelines for home treatment Ive gotten better advice from people who have had theyre pet go thru similar and survive, they just recommended euthanasia! No K1 supplement I even had to request an appetite booster myself. Im pretty sure he came out of there with a cough and I asked to address it they didnt want to not even a nebulizer or recommendation for anything they just said it was nothing. I understand that the Dr changed shifts and things can get left out but thats theyre job and communicating info over is part of that, some people really on their support animals and I think theyve forgotten that. I hope this dosnt happen to anyone else.
This place is HORRIBLE. I got turned away! At first the tech comes out and says do I have an appointment I said no. ( hello this is a 24/7 hospital in my headso she gives me this little paper with other vets and says go to Santa Barbara. I said I’m not traveling. My cat needs to be seen she’s been throwing up and having diarrhea for two weeks. I even brought them a stool sample. This women comes out without ANY COMPASSION she wears glasses and have curly hair with highlights and prints me out another page of clinics saying to try them. That they were at full capacity and had 3 surgeries. There WAS NO OTHER CARS OR ppl in the building waiting. I don’t know how any of these ppl sleep at night knowing they are doing the bare minimum. I work in healthcare myself. It would be different to have compassion. Shame on YOU HORIZON!!!!! Never coming here EVER AGAIN
I arrived there jun 25 2021 with my cat who had paralyzed hind legs. I knew the options were grim. So what I would have expected: Emergency exam & Euthanasia. You know what happened? THEY TURNED ME AWAY. 2 years ago we had to say goodbye to our 2 dogs 2 weeks apart. We did that over there. No complaints & professional. I understand everybody is under stress because of covid and the amount of new pets. But to turn someone away with a dying animal without even looking at it and say "go to Thousand Oaks" is not something I think worth a positive review. From their website "Ventura-based Horizon Veterinary Specialists is a small animal specialty & emergency hospital providing 24-hour, 7-days-a-week care for your pets."Except when they dont want to. Then they dont CARE
I couldnt possibly be happier with my experience at Horizon.Ive had to hospital my dog there twice now because of aspiration pneumonia, the first of which he probably would have died anywhere else. The critical care specialist quickly identified sepsis, immediately gave him the right combination of full spectrum antibiotics that addressed his infection, and had him on continuous oxygen (despite his repeated attempts to pull the tubes out constantly). They absolutely saved his life.My dog ended up staying there for an entire week so I had interactions with pretty much all of the Doctors and was so impressed with every single one. Not only with their knowledge but also their kindness. They made sure to give me thorough updates on a regular basis and were patient with my call-ins to check up when I missed my boy.You can tell the technicians who worked with my dog were really kind with the animals and are really good at at their jobs too. When I asked any questions they immediately had thorough answers that showed that they were paying good attention and knew the whole story about my dog and not just a small portion of it. Meeting them in person made me feel like my boy was in good hands every single day that I couldnt be with him.I honestly cant say enough good things about this place. Your pets are in amazing hands here and I cant recommend it enough.
I would never ever recommend this vet to anyone. Especially the ER!! If your baby is critical and needs a doctor who will go the extra mile - then this is not your place.I eventually lost my beloved boy 6 weeks after my first trip to the ER. I never took him back there and I wish I never ever took him there in the first place. There was such a lack of interest in his recovery (the lack there ofthat is so disturbing to me. As if it just wasn’t a concern, I had to push so hard for help after spending $5000 and leaving him in their care for 4 days.Pets are money-makers not patients here. When I explained the new symptoms I found during his recovery I got “well I’m not a behavioral specialist.” I never asked if you were, I asked if the change in behavior and other issues such as lack of vision and spaciness triggers any ideas as to whether or not something else could be wrong that was missed? Could you get a more pathetic ‘I-actually-don’t care’ response than that?I gave two stars because some of the staff are amazing and they deserve the stars but I wouldn’t trust the vets and some of the nurses. When it comes to your pet’s life - they’re the ones who you need to be the stars but they don’t have it in them.
My 12-year-old Dachshund almost died from a sudden onset of diabetes caused by Cushing’s disease, and Dr. Ortega and the doctors at Horizon are the only reason she is still with us today. She was very ill and Dr. Ortega didn’t try to sugar coat it for us, which I very much appreciated. She kept us updated over the next few days on her condition and what they were doing to try and level out her blood sugar while also dealing with an insulin resistant disease. She answered all of our questions and didn’t rush us through the conversations, even though we knew she was busy. They let us come in to see Maggie for 15 minutes with masks and gloves on to give us all a little comfort during such a stressful time. The tech carried my girl in on a big soft bed with a blanket on her, and I immediately knew she was in the best of care there. A few days later she was finally on the mend, and were able to take her home after they gave me a tutorial on how to check her glucose and administer insulin. Was it cheap? Oh god no! But what emergency care is? Was everyone there wonderful? Nope, there were several people I dealt with on the phone who could use some customer service training. But seriously, that’s pretty much anywhere you go, especially somewhere open 24/7. You’re paying for the skill of the doctors who are working to save your dog’s life, and skill is definitely what you receive here. It is priceless. Dr. Ortega and her team saved our Maggie’s life, and while we might only have a few more years with her, it’s time we wouldn’t have gotten without their care and expertise.
If you want the short version, yes, I would highly recommend this animal hospital. If you want the why, read on...For the complaints I’ve seen in some of the reviews; 1st, this a busy medical facility. On the weekend it is no different than going to an ER or urgent care for humans. 2nd, these are doctors with degrees caring for your pets/loved ones. Cheap & fast and medical care are not synonymous with one another. We were out of towners camping at Lake Casitas for the weekend. We came in here on a Saturday with our dog who ate a GIANT treble hook. I have no idea how she even got it down. They clearly stated my options and estimated prices to accompany them (anywhere from $350 - $7500). About 8 hours later we left with our dog, sans the hook. It was a complete success. It was not cheap (though I feel it was more than fairand it was not quick (but more than reasonable). I ended up paying about $1900. If I swallowed a treble hook... Dr Beymer, Dr Ortega and the entire staff were fantastic. They had the opportunity to charge me an additional $5,000 for a surgery and I would have been none the wiser. Not only did they accomplish removing the hook for a cheaper option endoscopy, they refunded me a portion of the money in the end. That’s pure class. They could have robbed me, but solid business ethics prevailed. I would trust them to go back. They are not trying to pull one over on you and they are doing the best they can given the circumstances. Thanks Horizon!
Excellent care from initial phone call to care.We are so grateful to HorizonAfter being turned away from virtually ever veterinarian from Lompoc to Ventura due to COVID. I was sick with worry. When I called Horizon I explained my situation, after a few moments on hold, I was told to come on in. Although Horizon was extremely overwhelmed with pet patients they agreed to see my sick three month old puppy. I am eternally grateful to them. Absolute angels.Yes, I had to wait, but it was worth every second. The price was very reasonable for emergency care.I am happy to report, my puppy is on the mend, getting better every day!If you have a sick or injured pet, do not hesitate to bring them to Horizon.
This place is actually amazing. They took care of my dog like I couldnt believe. The best Vet I have ever been too. The doctor was smart and very caring and there staff were geniuses too. Dont be drawn away because of the corona precautions. These people will really help you. Everyone waiting told me the same thing when I got there too.
I arrived at Horizon with my little poodle Puffin coughing, choking, and fighting for breath, waited 6 hours holding her in my arms while I watched people who arrived after me with their pets go in front of me. The only time staff approached me during the 6 hour wait was to take my credit card info and sign agreement to pay $800+ up front. When I asked staff why it was taking so long while my dog was fighting for breath, staff kept saying that people who came after me were emergencies to justify why they (horizontook them first and told me I should go wait in my car. After 6 hours she finally got in, got a steroid shot, My baby was dead later that night no thanks to Horizon.
My experience here was wonderful. My dogs got into a fight in the middle of the night and one of them was bit just under her eye by the other. I live in Santa Barbara, and took my pup to two hospitals- one was closed and the other couldnt take us. I called a few hospitals in Thousand Oaks and Ventura before giving Horizon a try. None could take her but Horizon. Vets are swamped lately, but Dr. Armour gave me such helpful updates. She was prompt and kind, and did such a great job stitching up my pup and taking care of her. Thank you Dr. Armour for a great experience at a pet hospital.- Andria and Tuya
My husband and I are forever thankful to the team at Horizon. On March 12th we brought our dog Toby in and even during the most difficult time of our lives we got the best care. Dr. Badal was extremely informative, she let us know what she was working with every step of the way and you can tell she really cares about her patients. Unfortunately we had to put our little guy down but we never felt rushed or confused. Everything was thoughtfully planned out so he suffered as little as possible while he was there. The service felt personalized and thoughtful. Thank you Horizon.
I called for an emergency for my Sammy dog. Everyone, from Dr. Badal to Victoria who answered my initial phone call, was beyond wonderful. They were well organized and check in was a breeze. All of the staff was friendly, professional, patient and compassionate. I immediately knew my sweet Sammy was in good hands. If your pet is having an emergency or has specialty needs I recommend giving this group a chance to make them feel better. The staff clearly cares about the companions they care for.Thank you Horizon Veterinary Specialists.!
Horizon is AMAZING!! They saved our puppy’s life!!! Two days after getting our puppy, Midge, she started acting lethargic and exhibiting symptoms of Parvo. We took her to Horizon and they knew immediately how to treat her. She was eight weeks old and only two pounds when we brought her in, so the situation was very serious. They worked tirelessly to nurse her back to health in less than a week.Beyond saving her life (as if that wasn’t enough), the doctors and staff treated her as if she was their own. Additionally, they were so kind to us. Dr. Scott spent 30 minutes with us every night to discuss Midge’s condition and prognosis. She went above and beyond to ensure we understood exactly what was happening and gave us peace of mind knowing that they were doing everything in their power to save Midge’s life. And to top it all off, Arlene, Brittany, and the rest of the staff were wonderful as well. They even sent us a picture of Midge in her “hospital suite” once she was stable, so we could see our precious puppy was comfortable and doing okay.Everyone at Horizon sincerely loves what they do and cares about the animals they are helping. In my opinion, there is no better place to take your beloved pet in an emergency situation. We will be forever grateful to Horizon for saving Midge’s life!! Currently, Midge is a happy, healthy, sweet and spunky little puppy thanks to their expertise and care. We get to spend the holidays with our little one and make a lifetime of memories because of the Horizon team! We hope we never have to see them again, but we know if we do, they will take care of our furry loved ones. Thank you, Horizon, from the bottom of our hearts!!
Horizon saved our dogs life! We had our 8 week old puppy contract parvo, and after a week of outpatient treatment that seemed to be working, he took a major turn for the worse. We took him in on a Sunday afternoon and frankly were prepared for the worst. He spent 5 nights in the hospital and the staff was excellent at providing updates and pictures so we could check in on him!Yes, emergency vet care is expensive. We paid a small fortune, but as a businessperson I know that the equipment and staffing needs that would go into an operation like this arent cheap. I got the sense with Horizon that this is the cost of doing business and that nobody was out there trying to take advantage of us. Great people that help our animals in their worst times of need...
Ive had to take my pup to the ER here twice over the last few months and both times Ive been impressed. The knowledge and skill of the attending veterinarians is 5/5. I say this as a fellow veterinarian - they know what theyre doing. Dr. Scott quickly stabilized my dog prior to his emergency surgery and was able to consult with an oncologist to best plan his treatment. Dr. Campbell performed his surgery quickly with no complications and gave a detailed report on the procedure both verbally and in writing. The previous visit Dr. Rhodes was able to remove a difficult foreign object from his stomach without having to take him to surgery which I was very grateful for.The nursing staff are also very in tune with their patients. Claire gave wonderful detailed updates on his stay. Thanks Horizon team, Titan is almost back to 100% his normal activities and has been enjoying steak, toys and taco bell while he awaits his chemo treatments next week. I know I wont get long with him due to the nature of his condition but I am so grateful I get to have the extra time youve given him.
Horizon Veterinarian is a nightmare and can cost you thousands! . Not only are they terrible at helping animals but they also dont greedy. She explains how the reason prices are expensive is because its surgeries need to be by a vet specialist and the vet specialist charges more money.Later I find out that they are all veterinary specialist and they change shifts and they (all four doctorsare all part owners of the hospital. .My dog got the surgery and he died during the process, I took my dogs body to another veterinarian and he told me that the surgery was completely unethical and dangerous. My dog died and they got me for $7000! They also called me after my dog was dead and asked me if I wanted my dogs ashes for an additional $300! Stay away from Horizon! But unlike ACCESS they dont try to take advantage of your dogs condition and milk you for money like ACCESS. If you care about your dog please take them elsewhere.
My mastiff puppy Tony had something wrong with him for the second time in a week. I first took him to my regular vet, and noticed the same symptoms on a Monday after work. I knew something was wrong so luckily this place is quite close to my home. The staff was so gentle and helpful and got him in quickly and had me wait in a room. The doctor knew pretty strongly that it was methamphetamine poisoning. I was disturbed to hear this at the hands of a tenant more than likely but they handled him so well. I was able to pick up my perfect puppy the next afternoon and he was exactly how he always is and we were able to get some helpful info from everyone there, thanks!
