The area is beautiful but no privacy between campsites at all. It ended up not being terrible for our stay because the campsites were not all filled. Theres shade for most of the campsites and the bathrooms are permanent porta pottys....so pretty gross. These sites are right next to the river so its neat to watch the water but its too dirty to play in. Luckily we only booked 2 nights here before we go to the main mammoth cave campsites. Hopefully the pictures help.
Best spot.
Quiet, reserved very private yet small. They have primitive sites with tent pads and fire rings, a picnic shelter, bathrooms, and well, its right on the green river. Definitely worth the travel.
Thats my favorite spot to go hang out
Its a nice campground. Its just a shame we went while it was raining, so everything was muddy and wet constantly.
Great views at the campsite. Comes with a water tap and toilet facilities.
Very nice rustic campground. Clean, plenty of space at each site, and a nice location by the river.Yes its got porta potties, but thats normal for a rustic campground and they were clean and well stocked with TP and sanitizer.Note to anyone planing on gathering firewood - youll probably have to walk a bit. The area immediately around the campground is picked clean.
Recreation.gov reservations only
Spots are like camping in a parking lot. Car next to car next to car. It works for a quick sleep in your vehicle but definitely not what I call camping. Porta pottys were very clean though so that was nice.
This place is really neat. I enjoyed it a lot since it is nice and quiet. Also it is by the river which it wasnt too bad. Also there is portable toilets which is nice too. Most of people tend to go to bed early once it get really dark. And also it is only 5 to 10 minutes away from the town. Definitely will come back again.
Excellent campsite. We enjoyed our time going up and down the river and exploring Mammoth Cave National Park.
Nice area not to far from Mammoth Cave and trails. Campsites are close together, so get to know your neighbors. Porta potties are clean.
Nice little campground
This is a clean, quiet, small campground for tent camping. Water and porta pots are the amenities.
Nice little spot for primitive camping, with clean portable potty. Dry County so bring your own.
Very secluded and nice and quiet atmosphere
Nice campground for a small party
Very dark camping at night make sure you have plenty of lights
Surprisingly nice out-of-way campground. Could use a nicer spot for fishing.
Quiet, about 14 spots, $15 a night. Set up for tents mostly. First come, first serve. Next to the Green river at westerly end of Mammoth cave national park.
The ferry is a fun place to visit, it is small but very good close to nature. The road leading to it is a very beautiful drive with usually lots of wildlife. It is a wonderful place for a picnic
Its so peaceful there and I Love nature
A great place to camp. Not many spaces but it is right next to the green river.
Very nice!
Always go camping here!!
No amenities. No electricity. Porta potty. Well water. No ferry. 12 sites. On green River
Absolutely love it here. Serene area with primitive amenities right on the Green River.
Small but clear enough during the winter.
Really nice quiet campground
Excellent little campground on the Green River.
My family and I spent the weekend and we absolutely loved it! My brother and his family live outside Chattanooga Tennessee and my family lives in Columbus Ohio so it was a good half way spot to spend the weekend together. I was a little skeptical after seeing the pictures on the website but after going and spending the weekend I would definitely go again! Although there isnt a shower or a bathroom, the porta-potties were very clean and spacious. There was a water supply too. The campsites were kind of close together but everyone camping were friendly. $12 per day was very reasonable especially since the campground is right on the Green River. Its only 5 to 7 miles from Mammouth Cave National Park. That area was nice to hike but very busy. Houchin Ferry was a great place to be close but secluded. The park rangers came by Saturday to check on everything and to see if we had any questions or concerns. They were very nice and respectful. In conclusion Houchin Ferry was an amazing and awesome place to be. I would definitely visit again!
Went back in August, great smaller campground, only a few spaces big enough for our huge tents and family (8+3 friendsNot a lot of wood down to gather, a lot by the road on the way in though. Boat ramp was an alright place to drown some worms and relax. Plan to go back
Campground is right near the river, so good if you have a boat. 30 min. drive to the national park. 2 min. drive into town, incase you forgot something. Unstaffed, although we did see a national park ranger drive through once. Chemical toilets where dirty and the home of spiders.
