An absolute gem of a place. I doubt youll find anywhere as welcoming or comfortable as this within many miles of the area.Great coffee, excellent food, and friendly staff - Ill make an effort to visit whenever Im lost in Wales again.
Amazing! The most amazing Welsh rarebit ever, staff are lovely and the outside area is perfect little spot didn’t venture inside as the weather was nice to enjoy outside.
Fantastic Autumnal Welsh Rarebit. So tasty and washed down with local apple juice. Well worth a visit, lovely old building and excellent service too. I can also highly recommend the chocolate and courgette cake!
Brilliant place, a real hidden gem, does the best welsh rarebit i have ever eaten
We loved this cafe. Scrummy food, lovely friendly staff, prompt service, local literature to browse and a small range of nice local goodies for sale.
Lovely lunch of soup and old fashioned Welsh rarebit, in an atmospheric old school in a small village. Surprisingly busy with locals. Makes a lovely change. Also art gallery upstairs.
Wonderful taste experience! Simple fayre but beautifully prepared. Who would have thought cheese on toast and soup could taste so good?
Whohoo... cant believe we found this place whilst we were on a Welch rarebit quest.. The lady running it was so lovely to chat to and genuinely a lovely person... the rare bit was scrumptious, on of the best wed tasted... we will drop in agwhen up this way.. top marks..
Great selection of this national dish, in a beautiful old school building. Well worth a stop for lunch
Really lovely place. Great food and staff were lovely. Gorgeous cakes!
The food came very quickly, the people serving were very polite and courteous, and the place was very nicely decorated and pleasant. The Welsh Rarebit that was served to us was good enough, and the salad that it came with was very tasty, but it did not live up to the price. The exhibition upstairs was fantastic, and the menu was satisfactory, but we expected more food options, especially for the ice creams and cakes. However, it was a nice place to go to, and we recommend it.
Fantastic meal, brilliant service (spot the Welsh dragon game for the kids/adultsand great selection of Welsh rarebit. Also wonderful selection of gluten free options (basically everything on the menu as they supply gluten free bread). Finally.. a really nice gallery on the top floor. Highly recommend a visit.
Fabulous food, very friendly staff. Definitely give it ago😁😁
Ok it is a little bit off route, the place is so nice to eat something special, make the little detour for it, the rarebit is so nice and for the dutch, the lady owner is dutch....really yum yum
Best Welsh lunch! Absolutely delicious. Lovely food, lovely vibes, lovely staff. Highly recommended!
Loved here. We found it by a casual and it was such a gorgeous place. Service was amazing, kind, helpful and very lovely.I highly recommend it!
Stopped here whilst in Brecon for lunch. Had welsh rarebit and coffee, excellent and well cooked food and the coffee is very good too they use local roasted beans. Staff there were very nice very helpful. Highly recommend this place will definitely go back good place for families too
Great little cafe with a variety of Welsh rarebit options, cakes/ice cream, and coffee/tea. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating in different little rooms/areas, so feels private even if there are more people. Menu isnt huge, but everything we had was delicious (Welsh tea options). Service was quick and friendly :Great option if youre in the area.
Absolutely lovely place, delicious chorizo rarebit, courgette and lime cake and fantastic coffee. Wonderful friendly service and beautifully decorated place.
Lovely place for coffee, cake and lite bite to eat..Owners very welcoming, with plenty of in and outdoor seating.
Excellent range of rarebits, cooked beautifully and home made Welsh cakes with great staff. Highly recommended
Stopped here for lunch and had a great rarebit. I highly recommend the coffee too as they use locally roasted Coaltown coffee. I even picked up a bag to take home! And their carrot and orange cake was delicious.
Excellent food and a lovely coffee. Staff were fantastic!
Delicious food, great flat white coffee and fantastic service.Managed to take some gorgeous Welsh cakes away. Yummy! Would have also bought a jar of the delicious homemade chutney if it was available 5* star!
So good we had to come back the next day. Delicious rarebit served with a dressed salad. Really tasty selection of cakes. Everyone working there was super friendly. Dont miss it if youre in the area!
Lovely little place. Take your cheese on toast thoughts and put them in the bin. This is another level. Both of us had the Spanish Chorizo which was divine. Certainly worth a visit, in fact, I will be if Im in the area... and I mean in Wales.
Love this place the food is excellent as is the service. There is a small outside seating area which was ideal given the weather in the last few days. Would advise anyone in the area to try it.
The lady who runs this place is lovely and welcoming. Stopped in on a return trip of South Wales for a quick snack. Ended up chatting for ages and even having a seat for food with the dogs a true gem of a location.
What a lovely place! Wad recommend for lunch, nice food, great cakes, friendly staff, ( Dutch owner, cant go wrong therenice atmosphere in- and outside. Worth a detour when visiting the Brecon Beacons
Lovely latte and Welsh cake. Great staff and happy customers - cyclists and motorists.
I had the leek and lemon rind rarebit and it was utterly delicious, my partner had the chorizo rarebit and was extremely happy with it. The Cafe itself is gorgeously decorated, staff are lovely and I bought some chutneys to take away. It is now firmly on my go to list for when I am here visiting my friend.
What a brilliant enterprise - a simple dish elevated to excellence ! Delicious coffee and cakes as well.......what a clever and enterprising lady who had the vision to create this business. Loved it .....live long and prosper...😁😁😋
So tasty. It’s an old school house. Park on the top road. Lovely friendly staff. Fabulous Welsh rarebits. Would definitely go back.
Delicious rarebit and friendly staff. It was especially lovely to sit in the little outdoor sun trap eating our rarebit & drinking tea.
Believe the hype :this is a lovely place! The staff are warm, the food is so good, they have a really inclusive menu (e.g. GF bread and vegan options), and a planet-friendly outlook (heating with renewable energy). We went twice on our short trip to the Beacons, and we’ll be back!
Lovely fresh food very tasty. Stopped for a drink and after seeing the food coming out were tempted. Great pot of tea too.
Defied expectations. Exceptional food, good value and fantastic customer service too
What a wonderful little cafe! Delightful food, setting and service.
We had a lovely meal in here, my son and I both loved the Welsh rarebit and then had some Welsh cakes too that were divine. Would definitely recommend 👌 the staff were all very nice and attentive too.
Lovely place to stop for a coffee and cake! The rhubarb cake was made from rhubarb grown very locally which made it that bit more special.
Great Rarebit! Great Coffee! Great Atmosphere! Friendly Service! Think I found a new local fav :)
Amazing. It was so cute. The vibe is to die for. The waitress was lovely, the seating was cosy and the tea was generous and proper. The rarebit was truly great. I had the special (creamy caerffili, leeks, chive and lemon zestwhile Mollie had the Spanish chorizo (classic rarebit plus smokey chorizo and tomato salsa). We loved it. It was so flavoursome and filling. I then had a rhubarb, orange and cinnamon cake which was super moist and delicious. Mollie had the orange and carrot cake which again was lovely. As well as a big pot of tea, we also had the local apple juice which was sweet and cold and quenched our thirst from our 2h waterfall walk.
Just accidentally found this place and popped in for breakfast. I must say service is great, a waiter who I believe may be an owner was so polite and gave great suggestions to try traditional Welsh foods!!!!
Nice place to eat balanced meal. Had excellent cappuccino with strong espresso and thick foam as well.
Fantastic food, the rarebit has lovely flavour and is the perfect comfort food after a long walk! The Irish Stout Rarebit was my favourite but they all tasted amazing. Cakes looked great, we took some with us as we were so full from that brilliant rarebit. The owner was friendly and made us feel very welcome. Brilliant place!
A very different style cafe in an old school. Full of character and different level rooms. As it name implies one of its main dishes was their version of Welsh Rarebit. It is set beside the road in Defynnog so parking is either on the road or a small car park just up the road. They still have some of the wooden school desks which might bring back memories for some people.
Came across by chance while exploring the area. Delicious food. Very reasonably priced and very friendly owner.
Posh cheese on toast in a quirky setting ! Interesting art work in the gallery upstairs and a chance to buy local produce. We had a nice lunch here and all tried a different variation of cheese on toast !
Just fantastic. Delicious rarebits, both authentic and with a twist, excellent coffee and THE BEST homemade cakes. Friendly and attentive service from our lovely host. I cant rate this place highly enough. They even bake their own bread for the rarebits. The perfect lunchtime stopover.
A wonderful light lunch with locally sourced products and wonderful bread baked on the historic premises. A real find! The delightful owner served us and it was great to hear her enthusiasm for superb local produce, right down to the locally roasted coffee.
