I made a detour during my September 2016 hike across the island to check this campground out. I wouldnt really recommend it unless youre in dire straights. Theres no easy source of water to purify and the view is pretty much just the woods. I wasnt able to locate the mine either.
Not much of a view, water supply was limited but it was nice having a fire
Beautiful campsite in a maple forest with creek water close by. Incredibly peaceful. Campsites have metal fire rings, so campfires may be permitted here if currently allowed by park rangers. Campsites have little to no trees or brush between them, so there isnt much privacy if the campground is full.
We did not end up staying here for the night, but the campsite was beautiful and peaceful. Water source was a little dry this trip.
Not as scenic as the other campsites. The stream isnt much to look at, but its close to the campsite. The campsites are pretty close together, I wouldnt look to stay here unless I needed to.
Pros: very secluded and majesticCons: limited to no water access most of year
Its a truly great place. Just watch out for Luke. I guess he lives near the trails there. He was wearing overalls, and kept calling me bro.
Cool
Great photo
Had a blast at the Island Mine Campground! If you really hate people this place is great! No one for miles!
