Loved our breakfast here. Gorgeous location, views and the food was delicious. Amazing helpful staff even whilst they were short some people!
We didnt eat there, we went to suss it out for a future event. What food we saw looked very good and the set out and vista was very good as well.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. We were comfortably seated out on the verandah overlooking the gardens and picturesque dam.We shared the house made damper. Was really light with a crispy crust which was perfect for a starter. My wife absolutely loved the Barramundi as I did the confit Pork Belly. Cooked and seasoned perfectly! We had the chocolate fondant the Wattle Seed cheesecake for desserts. Perfect again!!!Certainly looking forward to coming back for the locals night which looks to be a great Friday night option.Cheers to our waitress, for her friendly service, and to the chef and kitchen staff for a wonderful afternoonCheers Richie
We had an excellent experience at Kawul - the food was great, the waitress was there when we needed her but left us alone too and the chef did an amazing job. Highly recommend this venue
Amazing food, friendly service! We dined at Kawul with our 2 year old twins and kelpie x… not only was the food amazing, but all of the staff were so accomodating and kind. ServiceWas very quick, especially considering they were prepping for a 180+ wedding!
Amazing scenery, service, food and wine. We had the vegan options and it was so yummy!
Beautiful scenery while enjoying breakfast out in the deck. Breakfast was excellent and value for money. I would definitely go back for other meals.
Fathers Day lunch with my beautiful daughters. Amazing food, fantastic service and picturesque location. Love the focus on local produce.
Had a disappointing experience on Sunday. From the get go the service was disorganized. We ordered the mushrooms on toast and vegan pancakes. When my vegan pancakes came out they didnt have the nuts on them all sorbet as described. My partner confirmed "are these definitely the vegan pancakes?" and the waitress said yes.Finished our meals and the waitress brings 2 meals out ..mushrooms and the vegan pancakes (which had the described nuts and sorbet). Confused we said that we already got our meals. They said they made a mistake and I had gotten the childrens pancakes which was NOT vegan. They gave us the meals anyway as I was still hungry because the pancakes I was given were so small. I gave the business one star because the food did taste good.I havent eaten animal products in 3 years and I get sick from eggs so this obviously made me very upset.
Beautiful place in the Hunter valley. Come here several times including a staff lunch. Always served amazing food with a smile 😀👍Highly recommended
A relaxing, very enjoyable experience. Wonderful, friendly customer service. Between us, we ordered nearly everything on the menu. Sharing the Wonderful flavours.
Quick, Sunday $$$$ breakfast in a nice location. Place was not busy at 9:30am with just four customers. Eggs, coffee and tap water for two people will cost you $70. If you want to order some juice with your breakfast, then you need a $100. Service was good, food was good, standard, but not extraordinary. Eggs were poached just right. Smoked trout was very nice and worth the extra $6. I think lunch/dinner options look better in comparison to their breakfast menu.Eggs Benedict $23 + trout $6Smashed Avo on toast $23 + poached eggs $62 x coffee $10Juice is $7 per glass as per restaurant commentary
Excellent service. Food was delicious. We had slow cooked lamb and trio of mushrooms with poached eggs. Highly recommended and will return.
When looking at the menu on line, we found a number of interesting things we wanted to try. On the day of our lunch the menu was limited and missing at least 3 of the items we wanted to try. We ordered second choice alternatives and were pleasantly surprised by them. What would it have been like if we could have had our first choice. Website menu information needs to be kept up to date.
What a great experience. The service from the beginning was lovely and the food was superb. Our waitstaff provided great advice on wine choice. Loved it so much we have already booked into Kawul for breakfast tomorrow
This has to be my favourite restaurant at the Hunter! We came on a quiet night and did a 3 course with wine pairing. All dishes and all wines were simply amazing! The two ladies who served us were also so lovely and really contributed to our great experience as they explained how the restaurant was established and the art on the walls.Definitely looking forward to paying them another visit and to try more of their food!
We’re repeat diners - Kawul’s lunches are peak Hunter. The upstairs balcony is cozy in any weather and the food is unique and delicious. You won’t find a better breakfast in the Hunter Valley.
Kawul is such a beautiful spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has incredible food for vegans and non vegans. The staff are always lovely! Highly recommend.
Delicious food and lovely service. The rabbit gnocchi was incredibly tasty. The 10hr lamb is delicious and just melts in your mouth and the passion fruit cheesecake was really nice. Would highly recommend a visit if you are in the Hunter Valley. The open fire on a cold winter night makes this lovely restaurant nice and cozy.
Went for a tasting downstairs and had lunch upstairs. Food was awesome. So tasty... all 4 iof us felt the same with 4 different meals. Reasonably priced and also reasonable serving sizes, which I find can be a little on the lite side in this sort of restaurant..... but not here! Will be back for sure
I have been twice now and the experience both times has been amazing. I would love to give a special shout out to Hannah who was ontop of everything and makes a wonderful French martini and coffee. I will continue to visit Kanwul when we are up here :)
Always have a good experience at Kawal as they have Vegan and GF options for me..Missed the yummy real potato chips they used to make and the Blueberry vegan cheesecake they used to have..The passionfruit was nice too though and the lovely waitress always remembers me and even put a candle on my cheesecake for my Birthday.
Great venue. Food was excellent. Although, we waited 45 minutes for food to be served… our coffees arrived 60 minutes later. We were appreciative they were 4 staff down, however, couldn’t understand why they kept allowing walk-ins, if they weren’t able to manage the workload. All tables surrounding us were quite irritated, constantly walking up asking for ETAs on their food and beverage. Felt horrible for the staff, though, if told upon arrival, I’m sure patrons would’ve had a better expectation. I’d go back!
Had lunch with a group of 8 and the service was amazing! Ri took really good care of us. The chocolate fondant and wattleseed ice cream is to die for. Highly recommend.
Easter Sunday 22: Venue is a bit understaffed so seating took a bit of time. The scallop entree was lovely.Ordered the Lamb shoulder main and it was really dry, probably over done in the oven. The lamb was a cut, not a shoulder as represented in the menu. The side veggies were meagre at best and over grilled (dry). Definitely had better else where.
Came here for brunch. 4 adults and a small dog.Food and coffee was good.Dogs not allowed upstairs but the outdoor terrace was good enough. Large and beautiful estate. 4 resident kangaroos on the grounds too.
This place was such an amazing breakfast experience with a table on the balcony. The absolute best quality food and coffee, also such friendly staff! Highly recommend the pancakes with raspberry sorbet and kumara rosti, both delicious. Its also great to have a wander round the property and see some kangas in the vineyard 👍👍
Food was delicious, tasted organic and healthy. I dont know how they managed healthy and delicious in the same sentence but they did. Yum. Recommend to sit outside, the view is amazing!
I give 4.8 ⭐️ the only thing were the gnocchi were a bit too soft to my liking, it might be my own taste, but the sauce was a delight, the scallops are also to die for, very tasty, both of the mains were really good, the lamb jus and the silverbeet were great combo, fish was cooked perfectly so were the vegies with a really tasty sauce.Desserts were really tasty as well, could not decide which one was better between the ‘cheesecake’ and the lemon curd, a place to go when you in the Hunter valley.
We attended locals night and it was a perfect experience. The atmosphere was great and the food was phenomenal. The flavours and variety of food was top notch. There was plenty of food as well with large serving sizes. Highly recommend. Must book in advance as it is popular.
Top quality food, great service in a nice location.Best quality kids menu I have ever seen. Kids meals were real food, not cheap frozen meals like some restaurants serve, the kids burger was huge, beautiful fresh roll with a homemade meat patty.Mains were beautiful, quality ingredients, good portion sizes. No food left on plates. The service was great, engaged with the kids and warm and friendly.Nice selection of beer too.
We had a lovely meal today with vegans and omnis all accommodated. Their food was really tasty and fairly well priced. Lovely location too.
One of the best places to eat while at the Hunter!amazing food and cannot fault anything. BEST!
Wow!!!! Australian tea (lemon myrtle, eucalyptus and sageand the meals were amazing. Full of perfect flavours, creative and so delicious! The homemade hash browns were incredible. The pickled veg, rosti, all of it, just gorgeous! Siting in the morning sun, soaking in the view....best way to start our day.
Beautiful place for a very relaxing lunch. The food was delicious. Shiraz beef and barramundi are really good. The duck gnocci tasted good but I expected more duck in the dish. The desserts were amazingThey have a winery tasting in the same place.
Beautiful views with great service and delicious food! Loved the variety and options on the menu. Will be back to try the heated whisky 😋
This was a beautiful place to go for dinner. The service was great and paired our wines from Calais Estate. The whole meal tasted so fresh and had a great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming here again when next in the Hunter
Good, honest food mostly locally sourced. Great view of Calais Estate from the 1st floor veranda. Nice spot for a relaxing, romantic dinner.
Happy to see more restaurants putting their minds and effort into creating good vegetarian/vegan food and Kawul is one of them. We had the salt bush polenta chips, Dutch Cream potato gnocchi and the potato and lentil burger. Beautiful presentation of colours and flavours work well together. Absolutely love the hint of spicy chilli 💕 Friendly service. However ambience and seating could be better considering the pricing.
Housed in vineyards of Calais Estate that has an extended veranda, Kawul Is a charming cottage cafe with indoor and outdoor dining that offers breakfast & lunch. My vegetarian picks here werePortobello Mushroom Shepherd’s Pie with broccolini & herbed peas, Potato & Lentils Burger with avocado, Local Damper and Polenta Chips. They get full points for having these fantastic #vegetarian and #veganeatsThe Mushroom pie was to die for and their coffee was also just as amazing as their food.
Nice place in a beautiful area. The service was great and the waitresses were friendly.Food: for entree we had the local damper which was very tasty and melted in your mouth as you bit into it, as well as the polenta chips which were fine. For mains we had the roast lamb which the meat was cooked to perfection but the price $38 to the size ratio didnt seem fair, also I didnt like the yoghurt sauce and combination of spices that it was sitting on.My wife had the gnocchi and the warm green bean salad, all of which was very tasty.Over all a nice experience.
Great food and location. Very friendly staff and a relaxed dining experience. Visited for lunch and really enjoyed a great meal full of flavour. As a vego it was great to see thought put into the menu and many options easily available.
Lovely place and lovely owner. They offer a wide variety of vegan options on the menu, but also have non vegan options. Great view and great wine. The Burger was really good and we enjoyed our time there.
I recently took some out of town friends for a three course dinner here and it was divine!! Beautiful restaurant - building and location are stunning. The staff and service was impeccable and the food was glorious. We had stuffed zucchini flowers, vegan three cheese risotto and ALL the deserts, my vegan lemon meringue was perfect. Its absolutely worth the drive out there. Its quite special.
During my 4 nights in the Hunter, I ate here 3 times. Everything was absolutely fantastic. So many wonderful vegan options. Beautiful location. The Organic wine next door is so good I took 6 bottles home!
We enjoyed a lovely brunch at Nanna Kerrs Kitchen. The food was good country home cooking with organic and vegan options. It"s got a quaint homely atmosphere overlooking vineyards.worth a stop.
We had an overall fantastic time at Nanna Kerrs. From the friendly accommodating staff to the delectable dishes, we were highly impressed and will make this a must go to place anytime we visit the Hunter region. The Sweet potato pancakes with cashew cream and billionaires breakfast were both scrumptious as well as the turmeric latte with coconut milk. Great options for Vegan, GF, paleo or regular tastes. On top of everything else, their coffee is the nicest we have tried in the region as well. Hats off to the team for making such high calibre meals with organic produce where possible.
Cute little cafe tucked away off the main road. This place was a stand out breakfast joint during our short stay in the Hunter Valley. Yes, we did get pretty standard breakfast dishes, but they were done well with good ingredients... yum! Good coffee too! The scenery was beautiful to boot.
The waitress was highly attentive and a credit to the business. We had two versions of the High Tea ($45ppas one of our party is Vegan. All the food looked visually appealing (see photosSoup in a teapot was tasty and an interesting presentation. The chicken, bacon and corn pie was a standout for me. The vegan selection looked great, but the flavour combinations were frankly dissapointing, as was the tasteless jam that came with the scones.
We visited Nanna Kerrs Kitchen today and it was an okay experience. First of all we waited 50 minutes for our high tea. It wasnt excusable at all as there were only 2 or 3 other people in the cafe. We were getting up to leave when they finally brought out our food. The food WAS good, but not the best. It seemed as if theyd cooked everything when we arrived which made no sense as we had made a booking. However, the staff were kind enough to replace one of our hot chocolates when a fly fell into it, but, a fly fell into it so that was another problem. I wouldnt return because I wasnt happy paying $45 to wait nearly an hour for my food and then have cold tea that was not longer pleasant to drink. Only giving two stars because the lamb on the bread was so delicious lol.
