Laughlin Electric in Lawrence County

TL;DR - I dont recommend for EV charger installations - high prices and scammy $250 "inspection" fee.I was looking to get a 240v NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in my garage to charge an EV. I called Laughlin based on generally good reviews, albeit lacking ones about EV installation. He was very nice on the phone and said he had to do a precursor “inspection” of the wiring to ensure that it could handle this load for $250. He would not give me as much as a ballpark figure until I completed this. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and agreed to this and he came on the day specified.He was also very nice in person. The inspection was essentially looking at the box and sticking a multimeter in a few outlets to verify the voltage. He looked at the outdoor service. Finally he figured out a rough way to run the wire, albeit with my help the entire time doing things like turning on and off pipes and knocking on walls. It ended with him recommending that I purchase the Romex wire myself on Amazon rather than him supply it due to cost.He then said he’d call an hour later with the quote. When he did call it was $3000 plus the $600 of Romex I’d supply myself for the install which is over double the very highest national average for such work. I was shocked by the price and incredibly disappointed. I knew that the wire run wouldn’t be a simple one. But it’s also not complex enough to warrant twice the highest national average, and I had already had another quote of $1500 prior to calling Laughlin.I also couldn’t help but to feel scammed out of my $250 as if I had known his quote would be so high, I would have passed from the very get go.I’m leaving this review as more of a notice for any others looking for an EV charger install. If that is your objective, I would look for another election as that price. Additionally having to buy my own wire and help determine the run did not feel like a professional experience. If I’m paying for an electrical install I would expect those things to be handled by the professional.

Tried to call was having issues with my fuse box and was told it could be fixed if I could find a new box and fuses. Drove all the way to lowes and when I tried to see if It was correct wouldnt return my calls and wasted my time. Do not use they are very unprofessional.

Great guy, came out the same day i called and provided a great service at a very reasonable price. We will be usimg his company again.

Wind storm caused a dead pine tree to hit the wires from our house to pole. The anchored wires tore off our house causing damage & the outside electrical panel pulled away from the house as well. Lou came the following morning, rehung the electrical wire, replaced the electrical panel (old was rusted so we opted to replace)., repaired the holes in our siding when reinstalling the anchor, updated the sealant on the entire unit and installed extra wiring so if it happens again (we have 8 40 ft pine trees right next to our houseit hopefully wont pull off the electrical panel again. Luckily there was no internal electrical damage bc the panel stayed on enough to avoid it. We paid $2000 for the work and completely satisfied. Just want people to have an idea what it costs so ppl are prepared. Our insurance company was so happy with lous work and how quickly it was done that they took his cost at face value and after paying our deductible we were able to get $1000 back +more to repair the damage done to the gutter system. Will definetly be hiring lou again when we replace the wiring in our house. Thank you for being awesome!

Lou was great! I called him early on a Monday - he answered right away and was able to come that afternoon. He kept me updated on when he would arrive and a heads upon his way! Once here he got started right away and found the issues with knowledge of the best way to handle. He also gave advice on some other issues we were having and the best way to fix them! He called the next day too to make sure everything was still good! Super nice guy and would recommend him to anyone!

Been having Lou do work on a camp I bought in Clarion. That man is super organized! He definitely knows how to run a business. He knows how to troubleshoot an electric problem. Always finds what is wrong! The one star review on here looks like spam to me. The review makes no sense at all. Paid Lou $100 several times to tell me what the problem is and he would fix it. Thank you Lou for traveling to Clarion. I appreciate you driving the long distance so I can get the great quality work I know you give. And Lou I haven’t forgot our deal...the next time you are out here doing work I still owe you a Bob Sub.

Over a year ago Lou fixed my lines around the box coming in from the power company due to some wind damage. After I saw his work ethic, patience with me asking 100 questions and the end result, I decided to have him install all of my electric and lights in my new garage I just had built. Again, perfect timing when needed around the other guys pouring cement, etc., same trust/work ethic and answers to my 100 more questions. Will definitely call him again when/if needed.

Lou is the best I can always count him to get the job done right.

Louie got my job down very quickly and his price was the best out of everyone. I would definitely recommend his for any of your electrical needs!

Me and my husband own a campground. Had a tree fall at noon on a Friday. It ripped the main service off our main building at the campground. Called Lewis he drove all the way from New Castle. Gave us an estimate. Told him to do the work. He showed back up a hour later. Was done by 7PM. It wasn’t an easy job. It was amazing how fast he was able to put everything back together and get his electric inspector to show up and inspect it. Simply the best electrician around!

Mr. Laughlin travels a hour and a half to get to my dentist office. He’s the only electrician that I could find that does smaller jobs. He even comes in on Mondays, the day that we are closed, to do the job without any patients in the office.

Lou does all of my construction sites temporary services around New Castle. He even traveled to Elk County to do one for me. Not to mention it was even on a weekend. Who else would do that! He always gets the services out in ahead of schedule. Which we like.

If I could give zero stars I would. Lou came to my house, charged me 100 dollars as he stood around making homophobic slurs... Most of the time idly talking, not working .after checking the breakers and outlets with his voltometer, be told ME to buy one and pull down the ceiling light and look under there. A job that took us 5 minutes that we paid him to do.He told us hed be back to do the repairs, he just had to check his schedule first .Half of our house is without power, and has been for weeks now. He told us to check with homeowners, which we did at his suggestion. Then he said hed have to be paid upfront and not wait for insurance. We said absolutely. Which I have documented texts of. Then on a Friday at 430, he quit. After stewing a few days I called him and told him I deserved to have my money back. He failed to diagnose the problem, failed to fix the problem, and failed to return as promised. You cant travel from house to house all day, claiming to be an electrician, and just charge people for a service call that yields no results and you just quit. Paying for a service call carries the expectation that the professional being paid will do the job. Any job .I told Lou if he gave me half Id call it a day . At that point, I heard numerous excuses, one being he figured we couldnt pay him!! Lol!!! Another being hes too big to climb in our attic. The space I had made sure to make him aware of at the start of the job. I will be taking Lou to court, because I obviously need the money so badly. Im quite happy he quit, as I find him grossly unqualified , given all the discrepancies Ive heard from actual electricians, and the stupid stuff he was telling me. Do not use this guy. He has no clue what hes doing, and has no idea how to run a business. His resignation, after my family sat without power counting on him to return, should have been accompanied by the return of my check . It should be noted that the only other review of his business, which was given 5 stars, was that of his fiance. Lots of reviews since my post where none existed before. And now I received a call from the girlfriend threatening defamation lawsuits... Defamation is when lies are told. I have plenty in writing to support my claims to be truthful. Girlfriend wants ME AND MY CHILDREN to meet him at 10 oclock tomorrow to return my money. I said my husband can meet u at 4 or you can mail it. She said 10 or no deal. Sorry, Im not going to be forced to bring my children around someone who makes me extremely uncomfortable because your "lawyer" says so. Thanks Lou. Please discontinue the harassment. update: paid emerr electric 1300 to install a new circuit breaker that Laughlin electric said was fine, put some wires in a junction box and fix a socket that didnt have a neutral line. The kitchen light was a simply someone having put the wrong bulbs in years ago, and he just pulled some fresh wire down and reattached my light. And guess what? I had "the money to pay him"

Lewis came out to my house the exact same day I called him. I had absolutely no power in my kitchen. No other electrician would come out the same day. He found that when my contractor put my new drop ceiling in he loosened a wire nut up in a junction box. He fixed the problem. And gave me a 1 year warranty on it.

Lou did our landscape lighting. Our driveway is very long. Other electricians said that we would have to put another service in for the lighting. Lou had breakers that would fit our box to make room for the new lighting. Thanks to him the kids have a well lit driveway to now walk out to the school bus.

Louie came out to my parents house and upgraded the electric service to 200 amps. So we could put the house on the market and pass the inspection for a bank loan since my parents are going to move into an assisted living home. While he was there with the bucket truck he even trimmed a branch that was hanging over the roof for us. AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!

Lou does work on our farm. He’s the only electrician in our area that has a bucket truck to reach the poles for our overhead wires. Always does a great job. Going to call him soon and have him update our 5 mercury dusk to dawn lights to LED. Lou if you read this start ordering them!

Louis has done my partner and I’s Electric work at our summer house in New Castle for the last 10 years. We travel back to New Castle every summer from California. Louis gets the job done right the first time. It’s amazing how much that man knows about electric. I enjoy watching him work. He’s an artist of electric work!
