Theyve been so amazing with my kids! My son went from hiding under a desk all day at his first school, to thriving and happy at MMA
Great facility and fantastic staff and administration.
My daughter is currently a 7th grader in the junior high at Maria Montessori Academy and has attended MMA continuously since pre-school. Through those years, we have experienced all the highs and lows that came with a changing school environment. My daughter has had consistently amazing teachers and assistants that have helped mold her into an exceptional young person. She has exceeded in all her academic studies and has the grades to show for it. The faculty always pushes her to do and be her best and the compassion they show is unparalleled. The current administration and junior high program has been great for my daughter and we look forward to the years to come.
We love this school! Our kids have thrived there, they care about and teach our kids so well. The teachers are great and the new director is fantastic!
I am a Jr. High student at MMA, and I wanted to share the amazing school experience that I have had... I have enjoyed my time at this school and learning all of the amazing things it has to teach me. Being at MMA I have learned many new things. I love all of my teachers and all of the time the that they take to let me know that I am important and I matter. All of the teachers make sure that each one of the kids is getting exactly what they need and that is super important. The office ladies and the director are awesome and always make me smile!
We chose Maria for our son after he thrived in a Montessori preschool and we did not want him to get bored in areas he excelled. We have nothing but a positive experience with all his teachers. They are all very passionate about teaching and the montessori method. My son has had a very positive learning experience here! Mr. Hirokawa has been a wonderful addition to this school as well! We love how he engages so much with the students!
The current administration is wonderful. The teachers are brilliant and patient with the children. Weve had a great experience for almost all of the past 8 years (since my oldest was in Kindergarten). With the teachers- you can tell they put in a lot of hard work and heart and it shows- especially a certain lower elementary teacher who well call Ms. H. Shes been one of the highlights of the past 6 years- having had two of my kids in her class. Also to note for us- the Special Education department has always done their absolute best to make sure that my children who need it are provided with the tools they need and there has always been someone I can turn to there.
Perfect environment for my granddaughter. Her growth both academically, socially and especially emotionally have been a joy to watch. Caring and professional faculty. The new Director is phenomenal.
We moved our kid to Maria Montessori Academy 3 years ago and we couldnt be happier. Our child has been in special education and each year the program gets better and better. We love the school and a new direction it is heading. We look forward to keeping our child here with the amazing staff at MMA!
This school has been fantastic for both my children. My 4th grader used to hate school and LOVES attending MMA. The Staff are all so friendly and welcoming. The school is great at keeping kids in a safe and healthy environment. We have never had issues with bullying here and love that.
My son has been at Maria for 3 school years now. There were some trying times with the school in the past, but now, I couldnt be happier. My son has some pretty significant special needs and requires an ABA tutor with him all day. Maria Montessori works well with the ABA team, keeps me informed and is always helpful when coming up with new ways to help my son learn and grow. My son loves the staff and enjoys the students. He has come so far in the last 3 years and I owe it all to the support he receives at Maria! Thank you for showing me my son matters and his education comes 1st.
My kids have excelled at Maria Montessori Academy and learning with the Montessori method has been so beneficial to them both academically and socially/emotionally. I am so glad that there is a FREE public Montessori option. I would recommend this school to anybody. The teachers and administrators are amazing, the method is amazing, the facility is amazing. You could not go wrong with MMA.
My daughter started at this school in 3rd grade; she is now a 7th grader! When I moved her to this school, it was the best decision I could have ever made. She is excelling academically and emotionally! This school focuses on all aspects of a child and prepares them to go out into the world. The teachers are amazing and really care about their students. The office staff is always so helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend this school to parents!
I’ve had all 4 of my children grades k-9 attend this school and am continually impressed by the quality of education and teachers and the beauty of the Montessori methodology. We are so fortunate to have a tuition free Montessori school in this community!
IT IS SO COOL!!!P.S.T my mom made the P.I.K.😉😉😉
Great school when I went in 2011-12. Felt real modern and stuff even if it was normal. They were (dont know if they still arereal strict on the food policy, but it is what it is. Glad I moved, yet maybe I might get to say hello to an old classmate if they read this. Anyone remember Mrs Amy or Shannon? 3rd and 4th grade respectively. :)
Good but it became toxic in my ninth grade year, because they fired all the good teachers
The original Maria Montessori Academy was the most amazing school I could have ever wished for my children. The last two years, there have been some horrible mistakes made by the administration. With so many students and teachers gone it will be very hard to build up the school to what it was. I have noticed some changes being implemented that could push the school in a more positive direction. If the special ed situation is changed to support the teachers and IEPs are legitimately dealt with, it would drastically improve. If the teachers had the support of the administration and were given the tools needed to teach the montessori method the classrooms would flourish. My love for this school and the friendships I have had with so many teachers and families will never change. I believe whole heartedly in the Montessori principles and I sincerely hope the school can get back to it and be successful. If you have young children, I do believe they will do great at MMA. It may take a bit for the new teachers and new students to normalize, but if you have patience, get involved as much as possible and communicate with the teacher and administration, you will have a positive experience.
Lost the mma
NO LONGER A TRUE MONTESSORI SCHOOL. So happy to be moving on from MMA. Up through the school year ending 2017, we had great experiences. Start of 2017-2018, MMA hired a new director and we started seeing changes at the school that we didnt like, particularly because our children were beginning to be negatively impacted. We pulled 3 out of 4 children after the 2017-2018 school year. We only kept 1 in because it was a transition year and she had one of the best teachers in the school to watch over her (who is also one of the most Montessori qualified and leaving the school because of the Director). Before the Director change, I would have bragged to anyone about how amazing MMA is. At first, we didnt understand where the negativity was coming from, but we got actively involved and it became quite clear that the Director fostered fear, retaliation, and heavy handedness among employees, blocked out parental involvement with the help of the school board, and started cutting corners in an effort to move away from Montessori methods (hiring new employees without proper certifications, among many other issues). MMA doesnt deserve the notoriety that comes along with the Montessori name. It is no longer a Montessori school. Most employees trained to true Montessori principles have left or been fired because of the new Director. You do not want to work at this school or send your kids here. Parents dont have a voice and dont feel welcome in the halls. Were counting down the minutes for our time here to be done. Its such a tragedy to see one of the best schools weve ever seen destroyed in less than 2 years.
This was an amazing school when we moved to Ut in 2011. The past 2 years have been heartbreaking. Rene Baker and the board of directors have managed to completely dismantle what took 8 years to build. The direction of the school is no longer Maria Montessori education. Last year a large amount of amazing Montessori certified staff and teachers were asked to leave and this year I believe 14 more are leaving. We are removing our daughter who has attended since kindergarten as we believe it will be impossible to integrate a new teaching staff by the next school year and also because the environment is chaotic, toxic and stressful. Its become a war zone of Director versus Montessori teachers. It is horrible to see all the beautiful aspects of a true Montessori education go by the wayside. The board of directors president Preston is rude, dismissive, and disrespectful to both parents and teachers in the board meetings. He has also made it so he can now self appoint himself in permanently. He and Rene have literally destroyed what was once a true Montessori Academy and are now leading unsuspecting parents new to the school to believe its still a Montessori school but it no longer is. They are using the Montessori name to mislead people. Every teacher both my son and daughter had since 2011 are now gone or will be at the end of this year. I never imagined this happening. I cannot recommend this school to anybody.
I have been a teacher in public schools and charter schools and the incompetence I have seen here is astounding! A blemish on the Montessori name. I hear it was once a magnificent school, but it certainly isnt magnificent anymore, not even mediocre Id say.
Due to lacking experienced staff and Special Education Department children with 504s, IEPs and MEPs will not be serviced legally. The schools SPED director lacks the leadership and training needed to support children that need these services. A sign of this occurring, would be when the SPED director asks you how to write goals in your childs IEP.I ended up consulting with another SPED teacher in a neighboring school district. She assisted in guiding me towards goals. I wrote my daughters IEP goals and then MMA accepted them. No parent should ever have to do research and figure out how to write IEP goals in order to get services for thier child.
I was very excited when I got my kid into MMA 2 years ago. He loved his teacher from ECE (who left after years at MMA). Teachers who have been there for years are leaving quickly due to the environment and lack of feeling safe, trusted by the admin and the school board. I LOVE the way that Montessori education is supposed to be done! The teachers are trying their hardest but they are suffering. They have not had reading specialists most of this school year which has made an impact on my child who could use the help. I hope that things can change to be the way they used to be.
There has been a high turn over rate of teachers and staff the last two years. At least 30% have changed every year. With an even higher rate leaving at the end of this school year. The teachers are amazing and the Montessori method is very good , but over the last 2 years the administration has made it such a toxic environment for the staff and the teachers that the students feel the difference. The teachers are unable to Express thier views properly and the administrators and school board will not listen to teachers or parents concerns, suggestions, or questions. Teachers and parents have been bullied by the administrators. And in some cases pushed out by unprofessionalism. It is very difficult to get an IEP or special education help for your children and takes months, sometimes even years to get it accomplished. There is currently, and has not been for at least a year, no medical professional that works in the building and most of the teachers are not CPR certified or trained in procedures in dealing with allergic reactions, etc.
This school is pretty good, they have good equipment and qualified(ishteachers. I am a student at this school and I am in the Jr. High part. Me and my friends frequently get away with things that are against the rules and have only gotten in trouble a few times. I would say that the teachers here are pretty oblivious to a lot of things and/or just dont want todeal with those things. I have seen drugs like Marijuana enter the school and be used with few to no consecuences if that person is caught. I like this school because they give us a kind of freedom that you dont usually get in schools. It is pretty easy to pass any class with very little effort. I and many other students are frequently able to get away with being on our phones and just messing around in general. It is normal to be bumped into by some kids making out in the halls in between classes. It is kind of funny actually, how easy it is to get away with pretty much anything. I would just reccomend maybe allowing hoodies at least and if possible, hats (Baseball Caps, trucker hats, beanies, ect.Thats all I have to say and good luck to you all!
I love seeing the kids practicing grace and courtesy as part of their everyday routines. I witnessed a small boy (lower Elaccidentally kick a learning mat and the cards and pieces went flying. He apologized and calmly helped the other student restore the learning mat. In any other school setting the student whose mat was disturbed would have been angry and at the bare minimum, "tattled" on the child who disturbed his learning space. Together they worked it out, restored the learning environment, and both students then went about their business without involving an adult. It was a thing of beauty to witness!
This school is awesome- if you can get your children into this school, do it! The Montessori Philosophy is a great learning environment and you can see how much the teachers truly care about their students.
They talk about how MMA is such a good school, but if we cant express ourselves and are like any one else here then why bother enrolling.
I have been in this school for six years I have gotten bullied ever sense and the teachers so nothing about and they say you will never get bullied I do not recommend this school but the principal,P.E. teacher, guidance counselor, and library teacher area so nice and always make my day
Focus on the Maria Montessori Philosophy with an awesome lower and upper elementary program and middle school. Great location across from North Shore. Really allows for kids to explore learning avenues that are of interest to them.
Great school. Great Staff and administration.
Im right now in this school in eighth grade. I enjoy being in it, the teachers dont bore me to death, and sometimes this school actually makes me want to do my work at times. Im actually confused onto what I could say on what they can improve on. If anything I would say they need to get faster computers. The long loading times on them make me waste time during times like work cycle.
My experience at this school for 2 years was amazing i will never forget the life changing experience of this school. I will miss this school very very much
is legit I enjoy the freedom they give u, they accept ur craziness. public schools suck in comparison. bring ur own lunch and cant wait for the new jr high. :)
I am a student in the 8th grade, it perty cool but the teachers sometimes get too far into my grill yo.
This school is absolutely Amazing all around!
My niece was attacked by another student with a knife. School didnt even report it to law enforcement.
Not for everyone. Great school for my child. Good staff.
I think that I would like this school more if they had vending machines containing grenade launches. Now I understand that this school condones violence, candy, and choice in clothing but anytime that I draw a picture that has violence I get yelled at. Now there was once where the subject of military was brought up and a girls said can you not talk about that because my parents dont want me to hear about that.
Great teachers, great facility. Child has attended since its first year.
My son is in kindergarten and we absolutely love the teaching style! Ms Joy and Ms Karlin are amazing. I can see a huge difference in my child. Cant wait to get my other children registered!
i love school.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!love love school school.
A discriminatory school led by an arrogant principal that is extremely difficult and not accommodating. A bad experience, Not recommended!
My son loves this school and the staff/faculty and so do we. He is allowed the freedom to study and read the subjects he is interested in. Prior to going here he would say he did not want to go to school. He has never said that since going to MMA. He may not want to get up in the morning but at the end of the day he is glad he did. He also gets to go on a field trip this year to see the redwoods in California. How cool is that!
My six children have all attended Maria Montessori Academy for the past four years. Words cannot adequately describe how much our family loves MMA! My twins attended MMA for 5th and 6th grade, and when they transferred back into the public school system for junior high they excelled in every subject. MMA teaches students how to be lifelong learners and take charge of their own educational endeavors. My triplets and singleton have all attended MMA since first grade and kindergarten respectively, and have loved going to school each day. Their teachers and teachers assistants are top notch. I love that my children are taught critical thinking skills and their individuality and authenticity are respected in the MMA environment. Each student is respected for the educational abilities and academic performance they are capable of achieving each day, and they are not held to a standard in which all children must all be learning and regurgitating information at the same rate and pace. Religious holidays are not celebrated in the classroom, which we very much appreciate. The entire school is an environment of love and acceptance, and Im thrilled that my children have had their foundation of education built within the walls of this fine academy.
I have children that attend this school. On the front side of the study, it appears to be that of a scholastic school of secular learning. But if you follow any religious study, it is not offered. They have taken all prayer and any knowledge of God out of the school curriculum. They are not allowed to talk about religion or God. It is forbidden. If you want your children to learn about God. Dont send them to this school. They are not allowed to celebrate Easter, because it is too religious of a holiday. This is not a school that I would send my Children to.
