So sad ..my wife was near death and so disrespect and bullied by two staff members!! The rest were outstanding... going to another hospital from now on I will never understand this type of disrespect for a person who could die at anytime!!!
Half of the staff doesnt follow their own mask policy. Everyone should really be wearing a mask in the hospital and properly(above the nose)
Emergency room was pathetic. Usually is but my most recent experience was the worst. I went in because of covid complications. They told me to take a seat by the screen, which was not a very good social distancing screen, as I was maybe 2 or 3v feet from a gentleman on the other side sitting to the side if it. More people, including elderly u and children came in and sat on my side of the screen and were not told it was an isolation area for an hour, until another family of 4 came in with covid issues. The person doing intake did not wear gloves when putting on name bands, nor wash hands or sanitize between patients, the person who tooktemp, weighed me. And checked bp, never wore gloves or sanitized equipment and told me when questioned it156/86 was pretty normal bp around here. (High for me). I spent 3 hours in a freezing cold room,. Exposing many others to covid who sat on my side of t he screen (t he young family with covid issues was taken back and others, including babies and elderly non-covid, sat in their unsanitized seats.I finally went to the intake girl and let her know I needed to use the restroom, as the sign instructed, and she pointed to the restroom. I said the sign says to let you know in case they need a urine sample. She said let me ask. C aalled back and they did not. I asked if I could wait in my car when I was done in restroom, because I was freezing and tired and my h ead hurt and knew I was not priority with all the people there. She said if you walk out the door we take you off the list. I asked if t hey could just buzz me when it was my turn or something and she said no. If you walk out the door you are off the list. I could see I was near c the bottom of the list after 3 hours so I just said take me off the list. I needed a blanket and a place to lay my head and I did not want to expose a bunch more people to covid because I was not priority and they did not have a place to sufficiently isolate. I understand prioritizing patients when they are busy. But I dont understand exposing people to covidbecause they are busy. Maybe it co I ld explain why people get unexplained infections at their hospital. I found a great emergency room 30 miles away that provided the best care ever and followed proper covid protocal.
The unbelievable incompetence displayed by the medical practitioners is only spectacularly outperformed by their freezing cold bedside manner. Only about three times have I been admitted here under extreme circumstances, and nearly each time Im left feeling as if I should have just stayed home. Amazingly, I hadnt died last time I was there, on account of a simple saline drip finally being administered after an onslaught of other tests they had me stumble through. The psychiatrist I see there is the icing on this sour, unpalatable cake. One Doctor Andrea Anderson, who in the first ten minutes I had sat down in her chair for the first time, came across very aloof and condescending. She seemed to be scrutinizing me as if I had an ulterior motive for being in that stuffy, monochromatic, dismal little office--maybe because of my age and race. Half a year later, my experience with her has not changed, and shes ignored every. Single. One. Of. My concerns. (I had an adverse reaction that landed my in the ER at first, and she seems to remember that I went to said ER at her direction, but not how unbelievably skeptical she seemed at my symptoms in recovery. She threw antidepressants and anxiety poppers at me, but after some time when I suggested something else might be wrong, I was met with scoffs of disbelief and dismissal. Youll need an evaluation first is what she tells me-- yes, good, I agree! BUT. I had asked to be put on that same evaluation list LAST YEAR, when I had FIRST seen her. Only when SHE felt it appropriate, did she ACTUALLY put me on said list, seemingly smug and oblivious to her lack of irresponsibility when I became audibly upset. This, along with every lab test she never delivered after saying she would, has left me so distraught, that I wondered if maybe I would be taken more seriously if I HAD acted on the dark thoughts of self harm, instead of seeking aid. Very, very helpful for those in need of mental healthcare. In all the years Ive lived here, I have never felt more written off and ignored in my life than when I come to MercyOne. This is only my most recent and worst experience. Unfortunately, the sad state of affairs in american health care leaves me no other options than to gamble my health here. Thankfully, Prarie Ridge has been a wonderful switch in terms of mental health, and I dont feel like I have to jump off of a rooftop to be given the basic treatment I had foolishly expected from Mercy.
Had an appointment for my daughter and almost 2 hours later still haven’t seen the doctor. This is unacceptable! I understand emergencies happen but this is ridiculous!
Great care, good people doing the very best they can.
Would NOT come back here if it was the last medical facility on the planet; Id choose death
UPDATE 19 July 2022You will notice Mercy One responded to my post. However, I have sent two emails to the address they provided, over two months. NONE have been responded to even though email address and telephone number was provided. THAT is the kind of care I got from them. Ignored for two months, then another month. What I originally posted about my care….*******I sought care at Mercy One , Mason City for issues with my spine. I was told they have an outstanding spinal program. I began my journey in another town, near where I live and it took three months of no communications to finally get a neurosurgeon appointment. After my appointment May 2022, my doctor talked in circles so much that I had no idea what he was saying. It was my understanding that he was going to obtain results from the hospital I had testing done then order a scan to compare to my last one performed 14 months earlier at another facility. He said at appt it looked like vertebra had collapsed onto disc.I was supposed to be contacted with an appointment for the scan. Two weeks pass. No contact. I call. After a pause, the person answering the phone comes on to tell me they have received my records from the other medical facility and the doctor was out of town that day at another clinic and my “record is on the top of the pile.” I should hear from him early the following week. Two more weeks pass. Nothing. I call again. I am put on hold. When they come back, I am told my record is on the top of the pile for review and the doctor is out of town at another clinic. When I stopped them and told them I didn’t mean to be rude or disrespectful, but I had heard this carefully rehearsed excuse for patients not being contacted before, I also informed if I had to call again, I would be asking for a different doctor. The doctor called me the very next day. Now, he keeps talking in circles again. Saying they see this in asymptomatic people and keeps going. I finally ask, doesn’t asymptomatic mean NO SYMPTOMS? Yes. But I have symptoms. Again circle talking but now, nothing he said in the appointment I had is being discussed. Now talking a steroid shot. My imaging received from the medical facility is now being compared to x-rays. No scan is being ordered. I am almost positive, because of the delay, the doctor didn’t even remember me and what he discussed during that visit. It sounded like he was reading CT scan results to me. No mention of possible collapsed vertebra. Even though I had sudden onset of severe pain after small movement with back.I would be ok if I was told they could do nothing for me.Their online patient portal and app are useless. There is nothing from any appointment I have had within their facilities that specifically state anything about what was discussed during calls or appointments.I have two other medical facilities I deal with. Both allow you to see imaging results, imaging reports, reports of what doctors wrote and what they said during appointments and telephone calls. The app is extremely confusing to use and view what little information is there. Basically, you can see your insurance company and that you may have visited. There is nothing about your visits. Nothing written by your doctor about your visit and what was discussed. You don’t receive anything, even in the mail about your visit. Even patient communication is horrible. I sent messages via their patient portal, which the system says will be responded to within 12-24 hours to not receive any acknowledgment back in five days. I always have to call. All in all, very disappointed in my experience with Mercy One overall. Even less enthused about my neurosurgeon interactions.UPDATE 28 June 2022: You may notice Mercy One responded to my review with what appears to be concern.I responded as they requested on 6 Jun to the email address they provided. I gave them my email and my telephone number as well as what I experienced from their facilities. I canceled all of my appointments they made and will not go back.
Have had several surgeries performed here. Great doctors and staff.
Some of the doctors and staff are good but sometimes people dont get treatment when something is wrong or if they just want to go to Behavioral Services ward just to detox. I literally had to lie about wanting to kill myself just to get the help I needed. I dont like lying to anyone.
I was referred to mental health for a new provider to oversee my depression meds. I seen a DR Thompson and he was so incredibly rude and unprofessional. In and out in ten minutes. He wasn’t interested in helping me and said as much but wished me good luck as he ushered us out the door! And people wonder what’s wrong with this world.. start with the professionals!
The nurse were amazing, but the attending doc only came close enough to shake my hand, but kept 6 ‘ away the rest of time. I went there for what a thought was a abdominal hernia, but he didn’t check my abdomen at all, told me I’m constipated. I go daily except when I take my iron. But I go at least 5/6 days a week normally. I’m mostly a vegetarian and I rarely eat processed foods, I stay away from fried food too. Hypothyroidism for 30 yrs caused weight gain. He gave me a list of stuff I don’t eat that I shouldn’t eat.
My husband & myself both had our annual wellness doctor visits in January. We saw the same doctor. We have both been billed for these visits which are supposed to be free. The same thing happened last year, even though we specifically state when we make the appointments what they are & that they are no charge to us. Its very frustrating to have to email back & forth with the billing department when this shouldnt even be an issue.
Not only did I go into the ER twice once for 8 hours and then a few days later for over 4 hours bc I have a concussion. I had a 1st year resident and an attending tell me there was nothing wrong and I have a concussion. Was sent home only to be taken by ambulance 4 more times after all this. I have been to my neurologist twice now. Am still having problems. When I was in the ER I was not given nausea meds or anything for pain. I have not been able to keep food down or eat anything for over a month now. I have had a concussion since Dec. 30th.! I have no trust or respect for Mercy Hospital. I dont feel safe going to an ER that is not gonna do its job. And I have nowhere else to go.
Been waiting in e.r 3.5 hours watching my son be in extreme pain and being told it will be even longer but they are sorry. Seriously????Awful service here. Dont recommend at all.
My surgeon says I need surgery. Cant put off. Surgery wont schedule me
I had covid symptoms tonight and went in to do the responsible thing and get tested, Tested negative, i asked for a dr note for work since I still had flu symptoms. They denied me a dr note and I overhead the nurses say I was just there to get a drs note for work. This is when I got up and left....worst service ever!!!
The LPNs are rude and incompetent. They do not return calls, dont follow up with referrals/consults .The patient has to do all the work just for care. and their favorite reply is" I dont know". You people need to get it together. They stand around gossiping and I even heard Sara use the F word!! What kind of behavior is that. Pitiful medical facility!
Took my 7 month old son to get a head MRI and he required an IV for the sedation medication. The main nurse only numbed one hand and one foot, poked him 3 times, and seemed to be doing her job halfway. Then a second nurse came in and poked my son another 3 times in different places than where he had been numbed and couldn’t get a vein so then a third nurse came and poked him 1 more time in a complex different spot. My son was poked and had the needles swerved and swiveled around in him 7 times for HOURS. There was no sympathy for my innocent baby and me being a new and worrying mom, I just hoped they would get it one time to make sure everything else was fine with him and to see what the MRI would or wouldn’t show. This was the worst experience I have ever had with MERCY nursing staff.
My Mother in law was in for fluid around the heart, we took my Father in law to see her because he has dementia. The admin on call Nancy said my husband could not go up with him because they only allow 1 person in to see her. plus they would not help out my father in law if he needed to go to the bathroom. she said that probably was not the best person to send to support my Mother in law, really they have been married over 50 years. plus my husband is vaccinated… isn’t that important? I guess not, 2 faced health care workers.
Had blood work done and this nurse by the name of Danelle did my test in the administration lab and she was so kind and nice too me
Worst facility I’ve ever had to deal with. I’ve literally had 4 appts at this facilities OB, There’s no personal skills from the nurses I’ve dealt with, I could literally script what it said from the time they get to the waiting room to the time I leave. Getting any information or results back from anyone is non existent. If they call you they don’t leave a voicemail, if you call them they can’t give you any information about anything or tell you what your results are because it’s confidential, even though it’s your results and they called you... or better yet they can’t even tell you why they called you in the first place because there’s no notes in your chart. Most frustrating place I’ve experienced.Edit: in addition I apparently had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. Dr. Than that I had, did not tell me this, or treat it! instead kept pushing a c section and told me I was obese and my diet was out of control. I went to another facility for a second opinion to find out 5 weeks later, by then I had to be put on medication and go to a specialist to monitor baby twice a week to make sure she was ok and get Her weight under control. Thank God I did, my baby was fine and we were able to deliver naturally.
The ER staff is rude and incompetent. They were in no hurry to help an unconscious patient and were quicker to get me out of the room "for COVID-19 protocol" then they were at getting the patients information from me. I had to tell them to write down the patients name and my name and number.
EASILY the WORST experience with this medical center. I have been referred to MercyOne neurology by my Unity-Point psychologist in my hometown OVER 8 MONTHS AGO!!! After awhile, I followed up with this place and I was told I would receive a call back for an appointment. It had been weeks/months, of calling and being told the same thing, that they were on a long waiting list, and that they would call me. OK. So I wait (longer than from 09/24/2020 to nowand finally fed up, I call and check with my psych to make sure everything was fine on their end, and it was, she stated something must have happened at the center. In addition, a nurse followed up with MercyOne neurology and relayed back to me that "the waiting list was booked 4-6 months in advance," and that I was, "able to call back daily for possible openings from cancellations." Are you serious? I shouldnt have to work this hard to heal and enjoy my life. Even if that was the case, I could have been possibly treated by now. I have been dealing with undiagnosed ADHD my entire life. Its affecting everything in my life, and I need to be screened for a diagnosis in order to get medical treatment. from my psych. This has left me feeling hopeless and alone. I cant get any help and its ruining my work, relationships, and all around mental-health. I have tried to get ahold of someone about this and there is nothing on the website for a corporate number. Please will someone help me
Never have I seen a wait be short in a so called emergency room. This hospital system should be utterly ashamed of how poor this emergency room is ran. This has always been this way. They should be fined by the minute and I bet the almighty buck would motivate incompetent admistrators to fix this. This has been and likely continue to be a travesty. Shame on who runs this place. I hope karma pays you big time.
Just had a hip replaced. My nurses were Robert Johnson and Mike England. They and of their colleagues took great care of me, we’re kind, knowledgeable and very funny! The helped make what I feared was going to be a tedious, annoying and painful two days into an experience that was as pleasant as possible!
Emergency room is SLOW takes HOURS to get in and out of there usually an hour to get a room several hours in the room then from the time they say we will get your papers and get you discharged is another hour!! 6 hour minimum stay!! Enjoy it its long and miserable makes me wish I never went in by time we are on hour 3 of sitting
Absolutely the worst hospital I’ve ever been to!! My fiancé had a gun shot wound and they treated him so horrible!! They rarely ever checked on him! Let him leave with in a few hours when the pain medicine already gone! So he left in excruciating pain!! I will definitely be calling some place to get this hospital looked at!!
First experience with an epidural injection was as pleasant as getting a needled jammed into your spine can be. Surgery tomorrow and I feel totally okay about it.
If you really love being talked down to as a grown adult just trying to hold it together than this hospital is PERFECT. And you better have all the paperwork physically, if you dont have it its going to be a long lecture because they apparently dont have capability to simply print anything out. I will NEVER be taking my loved one there again, instead of making him feel comfortable and calm he was made to feel stupid and stressed. Mercy One in Mason City really needs to work on bedside manner. Unacceptable.
I was brought here by helicopter with a vertebrae fracture, and the staff here was absolutely fantastic!! They were very professional and helped keep me calm in a very serious situation!! I will definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs medical attention ever 💕💕
I dont like to be interrupted and I definitely dont like to see my medical provider roll his eyes about my condition. Very unprofessional. A second or third opinion should rely on a diagnosis after review of imaging, patient history, and evaluation, and not just a review of what someone else says. I filed complaints against others and they dont like it. This appointment was for Chronic Heart Failure.Staff was friendly and helpful today. Called about Zio Patch.
A month ago, my wife was in the hospital for abdominal pains. After some tests, they asked her to stay overnight for another test. After not eating the next morning, she is informed at 1:00 in the afternoon that nobody scheduled the test, so they want her to spend another night. BS.I have a colonoscopy scheduled at 7:45 this morning at the Mason City surgery Center. I had to make arrangements to have a covid done test done within 72 hours prior. Mercy did the test Friday and hasnt submitted the test results. Now, no procedure until I get a another test done. Mercy is incompetent.
LOWSY CARE!! My 86 yr old mother was made to lay down in the ER waiting room after being told they were short of nurses. This was after being told she had bronchitis & a urinary tract infection. What is wrong with you people????
Went to Mercy’s Emergency Department because my head was in severe pain and I was coughing a ton. I could barely walk because I was so out of it. Waited in the lobby for nearly 3 hours just for the doctor to tell me, “you just have a virus, go home and drink fluids and rest.” Went to a real medical place 3 days later and turns out I’ve had the flu this whole time, and they promptly started me on an antibiotic. Mercy was a terrible experience and I hope others don’t entrust them with more serious conditions.
I went to the E.R about two days ago bc I was experiencing alot of throat pain. My throat was very inflamed and infected and the only thing they did was give me ibuprofen water and some applesauce. No antibiotics at all! They said I looked like I had strep and that my tonsils were very inflamed. They ran a strep test and they said it was negative. Then the doctor prescribes that I drink herbal tea bc he read online that that rly helps. And take more ibuprofen. Since then my throat has gotten much worse. I can even eat without the food getting stuck in my thoat! It hurts to swallow and Im getting to the point where Im losing my voice. My experience was awful. I felt like they were just doing their best to get people in and out instead of actually trying to figure out what is wrong. Im going tomorrow to see another doctor. Hopefully Ill be able to get some help.
On behalf of my own mother and the rest of my family, I must say that the medical staff are all uncaring, unprofessional, borderline near murderers here at this hospital! My mother had a procedure in 2012 with a DaVinci robot and they cut her bowel and refused to treat it! Then in 2016 she began having problems that procured from that surgery and they were careless, abusive, she even got septic! We tried to sue them but they got away with attempted murderer! This hospital is on my list where I refuse treatment from! And I will accept death over letting one of these mongrels put their hands on me!!
This place ROCKS. Thank you so very much for all your help and expertise. You made me feel great again and made my life awesome. Each and everyone that I was involved with. From the valet parking all the way to Dr.Koranne, thank you so very much. Dan.
The care at this facility seems very sub-par. Staff does not communicate well with each other or the patients. Requests and authorization to send all ER/Doctor/Surgery/X-Ray records to follow up doctor was not completed even though the hospital acknowledged receiving the request AND the authorization. Arrived at the follow-up appointment only to find the hospital did not send the records as requested more than a week prior to the appointment.Hospital Administration doesn’t appear to have any quality control checks and balances in place. If you have the option, choose another facility.
Im hopeful that this surgical procedure will allow me to live at maximum capacity....nothing beats a failure but a try!!!!! (Kellism)The staff is great.I highly recommend Dr. Ondoma (NeurologistJordan (PA).Thanks, Jennifer, Kayla, Megan, Kassie, Briana and those whose names I didnt get for the excellent care 😷😷👩⚕️👨⚕️👩⚕️👨⚕️ and service.Pre surgical Waiting 👏👏OR Staff👏👏Recovery👏👏5West👏👏Dietary👏👏Occupational Therapy 👏👏Housekeeping👏👏Thanks bunches, Mikayla, for the early morning hysterics....🤣😂Sydney and Hannah for my XRays..👏👏👍👍U ROCK........💯💯You ALL were just North of my EXPECTATIONS.....
I worked closely with staff in the Mercy ER for over three years as a low level functionary. I saw professionalism every day, compassion and courtesy for every patient without fail, from doctors, nurses, technicians, registration staff and everyone else. All patients were treated equally with the best possible methods; no resources available were spared. To me MercyOne M. City is a Sacred Place."patients" 2nd time should read "patients". Type O. Ive also been a patient there more than once and was treated very well.
OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE going to the OBYGN at Mercy!! Dr. Quinn is absolutely the best!! I hardly have to wait to be seen, everyone is super nice with me, and Dr. Quinn is a down to earth, laid back, no nonsense, knows her stuff (100%), warm, friendly, amazing personality, knows how to connect with someone, is funny, and makes you want to be friends with her (even though I am WAY too shy to ask to hang out with her lol😆kind of doctor!!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Quinn to anyone that is reading this! You will not regret it!!!
.......The doctors at this hospital were great, However the administration , and office workers including management are scamming sick patients who have no insurance........They will find any way they can to deny patients medical care.........As you already know this "hospital" receives millions of dollars in federal and state funding simply because "Mercy Medical center" proclaims itself as a "non-profit" "religion" based business to the "government".......They collect the government money , but deny patients medical care.......What I am posting is very true and accurate, and if "Mercy medical center" is not " happy" with my review, please refer to the 1st amendment right of "free speech" of the US Constitution.
got my iv stuck in my arm not my vein so all things that went through the iv just went straight into my body . and from there nurses refused to re do it and had woken up with severe pain and sore throat bc the meds went everywhere else due to the iv instead of where their supposed to go . after brain and spinal surgery twice looks like im going to go elsewhere if something like this comes up again
Waited 6 hours in e.r. before telling me there was no room. And was rushed to the nearest hospital 4 hours away. To get the emergency care I needed.. best choice they made. Saved my life
In ER we are military and just moved to CO springs from Mason.Im extermely allergic to a certain Antibiotic, gives me heart palpitations, left side of body goes numb. Etc. Called the on call nurses line. Women was extremely rude. ER doctor here said he would take to her and she refused to give info. Saying I would habe to call back monday, its saturday. My symtons need to be treated hopefully i dont need a ambulance this time like i needed in mason, thanks for the concern.I asked her if there was a fax number thatbi can have a realse of info sent to so they would received it on Monday morning at least."Maam i told YOU know one would be there to receive it!" I get that but at least it would be in a pile of "to dos" monday morning.Hospital is a joke.i used to be a CNA i get HIPPA laws but at one point are you trying to help your patients?? I offer a fax and release form, doctor to nurse convo. You gave me nothing but call back later monday. Pray im not admitted monday...JS!!
I was in the emergency room because I could hardly walk because of a sore hip. They let me sit there for over an hour before anyone even came in. Did an x-ray and put an IV in for pain. 2 hours more before anyone came back and came up with no answers. Then called for nurse to take out my IV. Never came and I took it out myself and left. Would like to give them zero stars. Will never go back!!!!!!
Trish a traveling nurse as she put it was horrible. I asked for a Diet Coke and was allowed to have a diet coke and she refused to give me one. She said only water for you....a horrible excuse for a nurse. She was stationed on 4 East on 10/21/16
The nurses at the mental health center here are terrible! I was there to visit my boyfriend and the entire time the nurses were sitting in the nurses station badmouthing the patients after helping them. There was even a nurse that made a gagging noise towards the others after a patient had gotten undressed in their room for a shower and this nurse walks in to give her new clothes. They were very rude and disresepctful. I wouldnt ever recommend this mental health center for ANYBODY.
I cant say enough about the Procedure Recovery Unit and the Cardiac Cath Lab. This team is amazing. From start to finish my every need was met. I was made to feel very comfortable and knew that they were looking out for my very best. I have been waiting for about two years to figure out my breathing problems so that we could get to the bottom of it - now we know - now the right treatment can begin. I would recommend this team with all my heart!
