I was from out of town & needed some of my faux locs fixed. They were very helpful & accommodating to me being a walk-in & helped me without complaint!

I went to see Berkis two days in a row. The first day I went, I got a wash and a retwist. She put my hair in a mildly unflattering side updo after the retwist. I didn’t much complain because I didn’t have a style for the retwist (my faultand she was going to add extensions the next day so it was coming out anyway. When I told her I wanted loc extensions, she said it would be $300 and it would take 6 hrs. Having done my own loc extensions before, and it having taken me 12-16 hrs for really long extensions, and not being a professional, I didn’t really question it. I also told her that I didn’t want anything long or crazy, I just wanted my hair to be the same length and thickness and most of it’s about 8-10 inches anyway, so I just wanted a few more inches added.When I arrived the next day, she was almost an hour late after making me pay essentially a security deposit to ensure that I was on time and was gonna show up. When she started on my hair and she opened the hair I brought she acted really confused when it was bulk hair as opposed to something else (not sure what she was expectingand acted like it was going to be a problem but she was adamant about pressing on. She started at the back of my hair where I had new growth that wasn’t dreaded and did what I thought were two strand twist extensions . At this point I was a little hesitant as to what she was doing so I asked her and her response was “it looks just like your hair.” At that point I knew she wasn’t about to do what I asked her to do which were loc extensions. So I reiterated extensions and wrapping hair and her response was “oh. Oh! That takes a long time to do. I didn’t know that’s what you wanted. That takes a long time, I usually charge $600.” And I said well you told me $300 and I said that I had planned for 6 hours and I have places to be but she kept saying that she’ll do as much as she can.” So I stayed an additional 2 hrs and she ended up running out of hair anyway. So she put my hair up in a nice updo and I said to her, I’ll give you the $300 but when I come back you’re going to finish, right? And she said yes just text me a week or so in advance so I remember. Which would have been in about 2 months.So I texted her about a week ago saying who I was and when I would be back and she said she remembered me and that it would be $300. And I said, no ma’am. When I made the appointment you gave me a price and a time limit especially knowing what I wanted and having already seen my hair the day before. It’s not my fault that she misunderstood what I wanted and I would have left but she pressed on with the appointment. And when I had left she said she would finish my hair and didn’t mention ANYTHING about charging extra to finish which is real sneaky. The she said she’d finish for $150. But I was not going to pay her any additional money because I can and have done my own hair, it’s just nice to not have to but when someone says they’re going to do something and then they try to haggle with you when they messed up, I’m not about that and it’s bad customer service. Id much rather pay someone else at different salon to finish up than pay her more money. In addition to not finishing my hair, she left my ends ratty because I ran out of time and had to go. It was an unfinished appointment and I’m really disappointed because she seems like she might do decent work. If I would have known she was going to act funny with me I would have just gone ahead and finished my own hair rather than wait on her so she can try to charge me more money for a barely half finished job.So I’d say go at your own risk to do loc extensions but this isn’t a place I’d go to ever again. If you don’t wait til the last minute to make an appt like I did, there and plenty of other good hair salons that charge decent prices and will treat you better.
