Great park..has a playground, several basketball courts, walking path, baseball diamond, and tennis courts. I visit to throw frisbee golf discs..love it!
All the playground equipment is gone. I forgot they voted to not rebuild it a long time ago.
Love this place. Its a shame what we have done to our childrens park. I used to love coming to this park and walk in the bridges n crawling the tunnels and talking into the little can on a string type phones in the walls of the wood of the structure of the park. The grown ups using drugs have destroyed it n made it so usafe fr theyve shut it down. Ive heard recently they are to clean it out and redo it. I hope this is the case.
I love this place because of the memories, I could do without the junkies and needles laying around
Loved the Park as a kid still do. Stop by an sit near the Mounds
Lots of trash, the buildings falling down, and the tables are uncomfortable but I had a wonderful time anyways and the scenery around is so gorgeous.
Great park swings, slide and lots of wood structures to play in.
It would be nice if the park was how it use to be...people tore it up
It was a beautiful place to eat our ice cream.
Greatest place for off the leash fun for any size dogs
Said he needs to clean that Park up lots of rigs and stuff laying around
Pati here, "If Im not mistaking this park for another, is this near Summit St. And didnt it used to have a small Soda Shop on the Street. We called it THE PARK SHOPPE..My Grandparents lived in I believe the second house on Summit St..
The kids and I played here often when they were smaller! This place definitely needs an update! But mound park has been around forever! #MEMORIES
Very nice park... be sure to have be up to date on all your vaccinations... just a safety tip... drugs are close by if u need them.
This park is a couple blocks away from our house. We love coming here with our family.
Nice park. Large play area for kids. But it was dangerous as there were alot of items broken on the playground.
Its a little sketchy with poor lighting at night. Otherwise a pretty neat place to bring children.
I have always enjoyed Mound Park. Im so glad they put up the monument to show the mounds
If theres not many people there its still nice, but it use to be such a happy place for kids, now it seems to be a hangout for people with no place to be. Far as Im concerned, not very kid friendly
Why are there no restrooms at this location? This park has been in the area for several generations, and has been up kept nicely throughout the years: very much appreciated. The wood mazes are something my children love! Would be a five star park if it had contained an area to let the kids use the restroom.
The revitalization is beautiful and a well throughout plan. Great job Connex.
Would be better if the city took the time to clean it up and actually cut the grass!
I remember when this park was new and it’s come into a lot of disrepair and not to mention all of the crack heads and hobos I’ve seen huddled up in it really ruin the experience when you know you are trying to let your kids have fun. Until it’s fixed watch out for nails, needles and splinters.
We had a good visit today , did our good deed for the day by picking up all the lose trash around mound and also around playground and shelter buildings as we enjoyed walk around. Its do bad park isnt enjoyed by more and is seen as a place of bad happenings and drug use and dealing ! We will continue to visit in hopes others will also and make a difference in it , who knows maybe someday it will be as I remember it growing up.
Its ran down it was once a nice place where I was proud to make childhood memories but it does seem there trying to renovate it back to its past glory
Was great now people have tore it up, trash it an people sleep there at times. Wouldnt recommend going there
Used to love it. Basketball courts are nice during the day. Rough crowd these days. Such a decline in the neighborhood.
Beautiful park, not well maintained. Sad that the beautiful old stones have been tagged with graffiti. No excuse for that.
Is it nice part just wish stupid people would not leave stupid things laying around for kids to find and possibly hurt their self
Loved this park throughout my childhood and teenage years but it has fallen into a state of decay structurally and brings a bad crowd of citizens. I would love to see this once beautiful wooden park be restored to the community center that it once was.
Came for the Indian mound. Looks like area has seen better days. We were warned about area being a drug haven. I didnt see this activity first hand, but did see evidence. Could use some municipal attention like a street sweeping, and garbage emptied. Its a shame that such a piece of history is left out there to be subjected to whatever.. just glad it was still accessable
Its definitely not the place it was years ago. I remember it being built. Mound park used to be a great place, well maintained and loved by many. Now its in a sad state of almost decay. Its just one more place drug addicts and dealers seem to frequent that the city has nearly abandoned. It really needs the city and the people to come back together to finance its repair and revitalization the way they did to have it built. I dont think anything less will ever get it back. Its one more sad story about our town.
This park is ok but theres no bathroom or water fountains anywhere so when the kids are dehydrated time to go.
secret grounds for Indians and ritual.. that will inspire people to ask questions that history class dont teach
Very nice park with basketball, and tennis courts and a kids wooden playground.
Great for picinics and social event and u children can all play while you are gathering.
A good place to get away and relax. Good place for eating lunch outside.
Be on the lookout for needles and pornographic pictures stuck in the tunnels where the kids play. Most of the equipment is broke from the neighborhood teenage punks.
Its a very large Park it has tennis courts places to BBQ out has swing sets and they have a building during the summer that they open up for kids to go inside and do coloring books and play with toys and stuff like that and theres also a playground
Great place to walk your pets and let the kids play. Just wish we as a community would pull together and do some painting and spurce the play area up a bit!!
Good park, kids playground needs some work but it’s a unique wooden park.
People who have lived in this neighborhood have very fond memories of Mound Park. It is too bad that drug addicts and groups of unruly teenagers take over the place every night, creating a crime problem and vandalizing the place. There is an ongoing effort to restore the park. It is generally OK in the daytime to walk, run or use the tennis courts and ball fields. There is also a small picnic area. The playground equipment is very run down, not recommended to let kids play on it.
I grew up going to this park all the time. I love it and its a big part of my childhood
Great place for the kids to play and activities ever so often for the kids.
My daughter likes it but lots of broken stuff and always teenagers hanging out using bad language and wont let little kids down the big slide.
Mound park was once a hub of activity and a central to the concentric mound-works that surrounded the area of Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Now the last horseshoe mound is all that remains of the numerous mounds that once filled the Ohio Valley. The twin mound to this feature once sat adjacent to this structure on property that is owned by the former Highland School. Interestingly, Mound Park was also the location of the Scioto County Childrens Home, also known as an orphanage, until the 1930s. Since then the park has seen a tidal rise and fall of interest and inactivity.During the spring and summer the park is or rather was a hive of activity for local youths for organized sports such as Little League baseball and high school tennis. However, with revival of other areas in Portsmouth these organizations have opted to move to facilities that are more amenable and are better maintained. Mound Park facilities include a basketball court, multiple tennis courts, baseball fields, walking park, playground, and picnic locations. Non-metered parking is located along the perimeter of the park.Maintenance to the park has been limited by jurisdictional and budgetary issues and combined with low community involvement and general vandalism has caused the park to fall into disrepair. A mid-1990s program titled Project Playground built an elaborate wooden playground for the community. The playground was well liked but after less than a decade had been vandalized and location known for drug-abuse and drug transactions despite law enforcement patrolling the nearby streets.Mound Park given time, funding, and community involvement could see a resurgence of use and improvement that could cascade into further improvements or it could continue to spiral into oblivion. For now it is best visited during daylight hours and with a watchful eye as to where you are stepping and who is nearby.
This park is a good places to take your kids to play it has a nice playground for the kids there is a places where you can sit down and watch the kids there is picnic tables where you can set down and have a picnic with your family and friends I bet when you leave the kids will be asking when they can go back and play again
Its a fun place to fake your kids but it is dirty it needs fixed up pretty bad
The mound itself is awesome but the way the community shows its appreciation for it is sad. Seems no one cares enough to even put a plaque up. Just something about the gardens which I did not see in bloom.Think there would be a marker for folks and especially the kids at the school next to it to learn about their history here on the Ohio.
I know the park has gone downhill, how ever what was it? Mound park was the belt of orion as this large complex can be see painted on the flood wall. It may be the largeast mound group in ohio. All of it can be seen painted on the flood wall. Its outline appears to reppresent the constellation orion. Having researched the other mound groups it seems that most of there alignment were with the moon. U mounds are clocks. Think of the coils in the great serpent mound, each is a u mound and a clock. Aligning down there centers with the sun or moon to mark a ceremonial time of the year. There would have been a pole in the center of the open end. Perhaps at least part of the material the priesthood built could be restored, they do have old drawings. One does not build something this large unless it was a place of great ceremony. So dont give up on this site, the u mound is fenced in to protect it. So one can learn how these once common symbols were used. Some one need to step up and get some sort of action on this site. If some work was done, it would be a five star location.
