Kids loved it..
Did the easy hike to the sugar gum lookout. A beautiful walk and plenty of wildlife including kangaroos with joeys, wild emus and plenty of birds and butterflies.
A beautiful spot, great walking and hiking trails. Well set up camp grounds with plenty of wildlife around.
Awesome spot, good walks, heaps of wildlife and spacious sites. No power but drinking water and hot showers.
We did the Mambray Creek 7km return walk, due to time, but really enjoyed it. Lots of different trees and it was an easy walk. Saw an echidna too. Want to go back to explore more.
Exceptional. A must if visiting S.A mid North
Such a great campground, hot showers & toilets very clean. Stayed 2 nights could have stayed another night due to the walks.Hidden Gorge what a hike 18 km but well worth it. The bird life is spectacular & of course you get the kangaroos
Fantastic facilities at the Mambray Creek camp grounds. Abundant wildlife, spectacular gorges and scenery.
Just stunning. The Alligator Gorge short loop hike is worth doing. It is 9km.Take water and wear good hiking gear as the steps are steep and it is very rocky. The views once inside Alligator Gorge and The Narrows make this all worth it.
Best look out/climbing, 10/10 great climbing lookout
Did the summit hike starting from Melrose. Trail mostly switchbacks; Not much of a view, but makes for a good workout. Rocky terrain throughout so proper shoes and hiking sticks are essential. Trail is very clearly marked impossible to lose your way. I did South up north down but doesn’t matter which way both routes are similar.
Really great hike!!Network is really poor so if you are camping or going in your car make sure to book your tickets online from parks SA before going. 👍👍
I stayed at the Mambray Creek Campground on the south-east corner of Mt Remarkable National Park. From here I hiked the Hidden Gorge Loop Walk within My Remarkable National Park. There were some great natural sights on this walk, such as views from the highest point of the hike towards the ocean and cliff faces within the gorge. The highlight was the animals seen on the hike though, which included multiple kangaroos, emus, a wallaby, and a snake.I am not sure whether this is representative of the National Park as a whole, but the trail was very well marked with signs and clear visible track. For most of this hike there were no other people to be seen, but then closer to the campground it was quite active. I really look forward to exploring other parts of Mt Remarkable National Park in the future.
Mambray Creek Conservation Park.10 out of 10. Good spaces for camping.Clean showers and toilets, although showers are run by Solar so not too warm.in the mornings.Plenty of walking trails with Billboards telling the History around these parts.A shepherds cottage remains with History of it.Lovely wildlife.🙏
Beautiful walk through the Gorge, well worth a visit
Mambray Creek campground is beautiful, it even has hot showers, but a "bush camping" feel. Very nice walking for every taste, from a strol to 2 day hikes. We go there every year.
A must see for anyone living in SA makes a long but great daytrip. Alligator gorge is stunning and much recommended.
Great national park just 3 hours away from Adelaide CBD, if you like to have a taste from the Flinders and the great Australian outback this is a place to go. Plenty of camping space, bathroom, showers to enjoy and the cherry on the cake the many walks that can be done from here. A must!
Walking in the pine trees is quiet and calming, and you can find kangaroos passing by. On the hillside heading to Sugar Gum Lookout, there are a lot of gravel, you need good shoes.
Nice place worth a visit if you are in the area
Fantastic Natural surrounds with plenty of wildlife and a remarkable creek
Mambray creek camp was awesome, we went to Eaglehawk dam, the track must have been a fire break as it was cleared about the width of a highway.. kinda spoilt it. Not well sign posted either.
On the improve with new facilities and plenty of camp areas with fire pits and room to move.
Thats the last point you can reach with the car. I suggest you go there with a 4x4 because we had to drive 20 minutes off road but we enjoyed the experience
Great camping facilities and very picturesque
Great spot, not a huge drive ane in my option a more beautiful place the the flinders. In the same area is one of the best look outs Ive seen and you wont need to walk to see it can drive right to it, Hancock Lookout!
Great walks well signed. Amazing part of the world
Fantastic bush walk! Alligator gorge is amazing!
Great track, no veiw from the top, maybe needs a platform made or something. But still really enjoyed it.
Beautiful, lush bushland. Abundant wildlife, Lace Monitors (Goanas), Kangaroos, birds, insects etc.
Really great hike! We knocked it out in about 3 hours, not messing around. Went up the South trail (definitely the nicer of the 2then came down the North trail.Well sign posted and maintained
A beautiful place. We stayed in Melrose St the base of the Mount. The new trails give a variety of challenging paths to follow. Weather can be cold at the top so be prepared for cold and/or wet conditions. The rocks can be tricky to negotiate of youre trail running so watch out for the technical areas and take care!
I first explored here in Primary School and still loving it nearly 40 years later
Finally made it to the top and did the full loop. Great hike.
Did the alligator gorge walk. Started by going up through the narrows, then the terraces. Great walk up. Walk back is a bit less interesting but is an easy walk down.
Great bushwalk in Alligator Gorge, good balance between challenging and easy enough for most abilities.
Walked through the Alligator Gorge in an early morning hike (temperatures in the area were forecast to be in the low 40s Celsius later). It was lovely and we had the place to ourselves
Great little pocket of wilderness. Alligator Gorge was a great little pocket. Too hot on day I visited to safely go on longer walk. Saw some wildlife, but careful with the roos driving up.
So beautiful fun for the whole family. Easy trails on hard trails. Im not fit and nailed all the trails. Beautiful camp ground as well
Beautiful place to visit! Highly recommended...
This is our first hike of two hikes for our 3 nights stay at the Melrose Caravan Park. The track is right in front of the cp!! . Lots of walks here btw. We had to walk through lots of screes to reach the Mt Remarkable. Beautiful walk indeed! The remains of the plane that crashed here in 1980. The 1200 km Heysen Trail passes through here and many parts of the Flinders Ranges! We have seen groups completing it over 6 years - ahh! There is a certificate of acknowledgement at the completion!!
Had a very nice stay, the campground is great with well maintained toilets. Loads of bushwalking to take advantage of and the local wildlife is abundant. Kookaburras will come right into the campsite and steal your food so be careful and keep your cookie jars sealed up.
Fantastic park, nice facilities.
Amazing hike along the Hidden Gorge Hike loop. 18km roughly 5hrs to complete including lunch break.
Did the Hidden Gorge loop (18kmanti-clockwise from the day visitor carpark in late March. Facilities incl. toilets & picnic benches near carpark. Beautiful varying terrain incl. the odd scramble. Creek was dry at this time of the year.
Stayed at Stony Creek Bush Camp in Wilmington and ventured into Alligator Gorge. Simply wow. Best hike in Southern Flinders Ranges so far. Recommend anytime and will pass this on to likewise hikers. Loved it.
Some great walks down to Narrow Gorge. Our kids loved the walk. Its a fair hike back up but definitely worth it!
Its simply beautiful, camping area looks so inviting. Totally enjoyed the drive
The campground at Mambray Creek is being constantly upgraded and improved by the National Parks staff. In peak periods, the campgrounds are monitored by a volunteer camp-host.We stayed over the Easter weekend and on the Saturday afternoon, the staff organised an Easter basket making activity for the children. All in all, a great time can be had by everyone, whether you are an avid bush Walker, or just want to kick back and put your feet up.Facilities include solar hot water showers and toilet blocks, barbeque areas, open fire pits for cooking and comfort. The walking trails are well marked and monitored. There are geocache locations throughout the site, but digital network connection is very sparse. Best to head back to the highway to get phone coverage. As usual, if youre not connected to Telstra, then you can forget about coverage, till you get to Pt Augusta or Pt Pirie.
Alligator Gorge is one of the best kept secrets of the region. The walks are easy and forgiving, but the scenery is remarkable and will stay with you forever. June - Oct are a fantastic time to visit as there is plenty of water and flowing creeks. The gorges tower above you while you are surrounded by picturesque bushland. Kangaroos, emus and other native creatures will be regularly seen throughout these trails. Take the time to stop by and check it out.
