Niemerg's Steakhouse in Effingham County

I ordered the New York Strip well done, and it had pink in the middle of it. I ate about half of it. So I told the waitress about it, and she asked about a to go box for the Onion rings also,and I told her that they were not done either. So she went to the manager and got 20% knocked off the bill. Then after I counted out the $ right in front of her,she came back and said that I short changed her 3 dollars. Which I didnt, so paid her a 7 dollar tip + 3 dollars making it a 10 dollar tip! Ill never go back!

Great food. Love stopping when traveling through to have dinner and take a couple pies home.One issue is bathrooms could use more attention. Smelling like pee is not appetizing. Whats worse is when an employee went in to check it after I reported it needed looked at she returned saying she didnt know what the issue was. Then looked at me like I was crazy when I said it stunk of pee.Need some training on bathroom cleanliness.

We were very unhappy with our food. Steaks had no flavor. The salad bar was unkeeped & nothing was replenished. It was a waste of money. We will not return.Service was descent.

We were excited to try this place that had been recommended to us. We were greeted fast and the waitress was awesome!A few things that were blah... The sausage patties are super thin, the coffee had a bad flavor, biscuits were really sweet so they didnt taste as good with sausage gravy.A few excellent things... The French toast is made with thick toast, all the eggs were cooked perfect, the sausage gravy actually had nice chunks of sausage in it.Overall a great experience.

The food and service was very good. This is a good place for comfort food. I would definitely return.

The tilapia was delicious! The waitress was friendly & we were surprised at how quickly we got our order. Great place!!

Good place with good food. We did the breakfast buffet on Sunday and it was pretty good.

Poor services waitresses dripped hot coffee on my arm n kept going. My fish was not cooked all the was. She never came to check on us.

My first visit, if I get back over that way I will definitely stop. Efficient, friendly staff. Food was fresh & hot/ cold. I had the People Pleaser cheeseburger, fries and chocolate sundae. Very good

Food was good and service was great. It was after 9 pm so we ate in the Cafe.

Pancakes were tiny and cold. The scrambled eggs were a bit runny. The sausage was hard. The hashbrowns were pretty tasty tho. The service was mediocre although they were very busy.

Had an amazing waitress and food was good. I asked for steak sauce, but it was Heinz 57, reddish colored. I ordered steak so I didnt want to try a new steak sauce Id never had. Went to the U-shaped area where the condiments are and a nice girl asked what I needed and I explained Id prefer a brown steak sauce. Some olive oyl brunette stared at me rudely with her face all frowned up like it was a problem. The other girl proceeded to get what I asked. I wasnt talking to olive oyl anyway, so not sure what her attitude was about.

Our food was good, or service lacked. Our waitress did not bring us bread. The other waitress brought the two tables next to us bread, drink refills and drinks Togo. Our waitress didnt bring us bread, refills or offer us to go drinks. She ask us if we were too full for dessert. Her words, not would you like some for later. It was a disappointment.

Great food with a laid back quiet country atmosphere. A fairly extensive menu offering everything from breakfast to dinner entrees and everything in between. I had the turkey blt w/ fries and the fries were so yummy and of course the sandwich was pretty good as well. The desert options were fantastic and the pies??? Oh my goodness, the assortment of pies was outta this world 😋Ample parking, no waiting to be seated and my server was very friendly. Coming from the "city", I absolutely enjoyed the nice, quaint vibe of the restaurant.

The service was horrendous. The hamburger steak had absolutely no flavor I think they just served cooked unseasoned ground beef and that’s it. At least the cheese curds were good.

The pie was good. My husband asked for a rare steak.... The 1st one was medium, the 2nd was frozen in the middle, the 3rd try got it right. My steak was wrong also and it really didnt taste that good at all. So other than stopping in for pie I wont eat there again.

We both ordered our steaks medium. Mine was so rare it was cold inside and the other was very well done with no pink. The server argued with us whether or not we knew what we ordered and did not take the food back to be fixed. She then stood at our table and announced our receipt totals loudly instead of giving us a receipt and repeatedly tried to hurry us out. $30 dollars for an inedible meal and 20 minutes allowed to enjoy it; very disappointing.

The steak was great, the beer was cold and the strawberry pie was to die for. Ill be back!

Was there for a large family gathering luncheon over the weekend in the bar and the food was just ok. Grilled turkey club was just ok as it pretty soggy. Jalapeño poppers tasted like they were microwaved. Salad bar wasnt bad but dressings werent labeled and ended up eating something like a creamy Italian that I thought was ranch. Never did receive my pie...Wait staff seemed very over worked and a little frantic which is understandable for a busy day and group our size...but very friendly. A couple of other family members had similar experience too. Well give them another chance next time were in town though.

The service was great, but the food wasnt very good. We went with two young children and they accommodated to our needs with a booster seat and booth big enough for an infant car seat. The server was very attentive and food came out quickly. I havent been to Niemergs for atheist 5+ yes and the food just wasnt nearly as good as I remember. It tasted like some low quality frozen dinner. With that being said, if there is a next time, I would definitely make sure to go at a time when their salad bar is open. (Which we wanted but didnt realize was closed until we got there)

We stopped on our way home from a funeral in Northern Illinois. We live 2 hours south of Effingham. My husband had the steak and was very happy with it. I had the grilled cheese and a cup of the broccoli soup. Everything tasted good but the soup was REALLY thick. Overall it was a good experience. Our server, Kady was awesome!

Plate so hot it could burn you but with cold food on it so obviously trying to reheat old food in oven , bought oatmeal raisin and pb cookies to go they were good but oatmeal raisin is literally what you get as only 1 raisin in the large cookie, they only get 3 stars because the loaded breakfast sandwich my hubby ordered was good

Not quite what we expected. Service was good, but food was not. Salad bar was okay, but the strip and filet we got were old, bland, and over cooked. (Asked for medium rare, got medium well/well doneEffingham has become a run down place. Don’t think we will stay in this town again.

We came across this place while traveling. We loved it so much, we made it a point to stop on the way back through! It was great. They have a large salad/desert bar. The steaks were very good. The service was the best. Our food came out fast and was hot. We will be back through sometime and will be stopping by again.

Chicken Dinner was 👍. Three large pieces of chicken and two sides. Worth the trip.

Absolutely hands down the best place to eat! Its a nice clean quiet place you can enjoy the amazing food and dont have to listen to EXTREMELY loud music! Service is great the staff are AWESOME!

This place reminded me of the family style restaurants we used to go to when I was a kid. Wonderful service, great food.

Delicious food! They offer 2 dinning areas- all day breakfast side or menu and salad buffet. We did the salad buffet side. I want to try the all day breakfast side the next visit. Everything looks delicious evern the cookies and pies on display. We got cookies to go!

We stopped at a rest area between Dayton and Effingham. We told the nice lady we was on our way back to KCMO and was spending the night at Effingham. She said we needed to try Niemergs. We stopped for lunch and was totally pleased with the price and amount of food. The taste was very good and with salad bar made it better. We got pie but are still full from lunch and waiting to dig into it. Everyone there we encountered was very pleasant and upbeat. If we was closer this would be a place for twice a week. We have not found a place like this in KC yet but hope to. TY for the great experience. We are going for breakfast tomorrow.

I dont understand how this place is so popular. I went for the first time, and it was truly one of the worst restaurant experiences Ive ever had. Their dinner menu options come with a side, a trip to the salad bar, and a loaf of bread. I never received the bread; it wasnt even offered. The salad bar had wilted brown lettuce, and the salad dressings werent labeled, so I ended up with creamy Italian, when I thought I was getting ranch. The entree I ordered was a sirloin that was supposedly marinated for 24 hours, but it was absolutely flavorless, and it had a ton of gristle to it. Not to mention, it was overcooked. The side dish I ordered was mac n cheese. I think this was the first time Ive had crunchy macaroni at a restaurant. It had clearly been left in a warmer to dry out. It was just disgusting. I wouldnt go back, even if the food were free. There are much nicer places in Effingham, so just skip this place.

We had really great service. Our waitress Taylor was great and she was so sweet with our 4 year old. We went later on a Sunday and we were seated pretty quick.

Excellent food and service. Saturday night, food was fast and delicious plus you get salad buffet with just about everything. Also totally affordable. Absolutely recommend, you wont be sorry.

Don’t drive past this place! A great value for a steak and pie. Two hostess areas: Go left for steak and breakfast and right for the salad bar. Pie and restrooms in the lobby. The number of regulars that are known by name tells you something about what they have created here.

The food here is good and the portion sIzes are great relative to what youre paying. I had the Firehouse Chicken Sandwich and thought it was good, though I felt that it could be great with some small improvements like a fancier bun. Wasnt a fan of the fries.The pies are amazing. Its worth the trip just to get a slice of pie and a cup of coffee. The staff all seem to enjoy working there and everyone was friendly and animated.Overall, its definitely worth checking out.

An excellent family owned,home cooked meals. The prices are excellent the food and service are excellent, be sure to get a piece of Homemade pie! The locals frequent the restaurant, highly recommend! Be sure to ask for Judy she is exceptional!

Wow. This place is one of the best restaurants in the region. Every time I drive thru this town, I make it a point to stop and get some great food. And don’t forget to always get their coconut cream pie. The best!!!!!

Filet was tough and dry. Good sides and salad bar. Decor is a bit dated. Great deserts and wine selection.Just heard some nice things from some locals about kindnesses extended to those in need. Editing my review to 5 star.

I really enjoyed the food here. We arrived late and so only the coffee shop was open. It had diner vibes. Its not the fanciest meal, but the prices were good and my meal tasted great.

I have not had a better chicken fried steak! And whats not to love about a nice salad bar and fresh hot soups?! I did not care for the Mac n cheese and will return to try the pies. (And some more of that heavenly fried steak!)*Also ask for some real butter packets to go with the mini bread loaves!

Went here today for lunch around 11am and 12pm. They have very nice staff and clean lobby sitting areas, they hostess we had was very present with her person being helpful and making sure we where okay! The young gentle man we had serve us was nice as well he even went out of his way to grab 12 cookies for me an mom. Thank you for being very well mannered and good at your job! Will be back to this location for lunch again! :D Also the cookies where AWESOME!!!!

Service was great. So many options very family friendly. The chicken is a local favorite and wasnt bad but definitely not Southern fried chicken. Just a personal preference. The staff was super nice and my drink was never empty.

We looked everywhere trying to find somewhere to have a Thanksgiving dinner. Hundreds of miles from home. We couldnt be home with family. The food was good. Were from the south so it was different but still good. The service was great. Thanks for being our family on this day.

My wife and I stopped in tonight and had dinner.We both had the hamburger steak and the steaks were cooked very good and tasted very good.I was very disappointed in the potatoes we ordered mashed potatoes and they were dehydrated You would think that they would be able to peel their own potatoes and cook them that was a huge disappointment.Other than that the wait staff was friendly and helped out they were very busy but was willing to help get whatever we needed but again the potatoes were not that good so if you go there don’t order of mashed potatoes because they’re not real

Seems authentic enough but not the most excellent food, semi bland and you can see where they cut corners. However I waitress was pleasant and attentive. It was packed and there wasnt much of a wait time concidering it was a Sunday after church. Got a slice of rhubarb pie I have yet to get into for the ride. The meal didnt break the bank and the menu had a little bit for everyone.

This is a must, can’t believe how great the food is for such low prices! Had an 11 oz steak with loaded baked potato, chili, and a slice of cherry pie for $21.00!! Great service as well!

Good place to eat. Chicken fried chicken was perfect. Low prices, decent portions of food. Eggs rolls were nothing to brag about though (no flavor and soggy). Maybe I got a bad order of egg rolls though. Id come back if I was in the area again.
