We came here twice in July and enjoyed walking around the grounds and house. Nice little coffee shop at the start with nice friendly staff. I liked the used book shelf in there also and bought a book. I didnt see a Red Squirrel on this occasion but I have the previous years Ive visited. Well worth a visit.
We were fortunate to visit Plas Newydd on a sunny afternoon, which makes the most of the fantastic views over the Menai Straight. I wish I could have spent longer inside the house but my wife was outside with our dog. The Whistler mural is a must see and the Van Dyke portrait stunning. We were fortunate enough to see two Red Squirrels chasing each other. They were located by watching the top of an Oak. The cafe is quite good, though it had a paltry choice of gluten-free cake (a single sconebut the soup with a roll was very tasty. In my opinion its only worth the entry fee if you can take your time in the house
Our second visit to this lovely property, which has a rich history and houses many of Rex Whistlers paintings, the highlight is the amazing mural which apparently is unfinished although you would never guess it. The grounds and surrounding views are beautiful, a very enjoyable visit.
Good size car park with toilets 🚻 off the car park so a good place to stop and use as car park is free ,lovely grassed garden to walk around if you have a dog with you, £11 to get in to house and gardens but no dogs in the house, nice coffee shop that you can use without having to go in to the payable areas ,the views of the Menai straight is outstanding from the gardens a great place to have a picnic as we have in the past, the house is ok but not all of it is open to the public so felt a bit let down as this was our first time in the house, but will be back just for the grounds
Worth a visit if only to see Whistlers magnificent, and frankly astonishing, great mural.
The gardens are lovely and the views across the Menai straits are amazing. The house itself is lovely, but its not a stately home. Its more paintings than furniture. It features a lot of work from Rex Whistler. If you have a love of paintings, then this is for you. Its worth a visit just for the gardens.
Helpful guides, reasonable tea room, great gardens and forest walks, interesting shop.
Stately home on the island of Anglesey home to the largest Rex Whistler painting owned by the national trust
Beautiful country house and grounds with lots of trees and flowers. Took my disabled mum and we were able to get the wheelchair around most of the area and she had a great time.
An impressive house brimming with fantastic artwork by the late Rex Whistler. The gardens are an added bonus with the potential to see Red squirrels!
Garden area was small but there were walks and it was beautiful along the estuary. The house was not very pretty on the outside. Plenty of cafes etc.
What a lovely experience there. Everyone who works there is so friendly. The house is interesting , the gardens are lovely and the woodlands. There are red squirrels there but sadly we didnt see them, not sure if its because it was raining loads.Lovely cafe and and shop.
Beautiful house and gardens. Not all of the house is open due to renovation works due to last a while longer yet. If you are lucky will see red squirrels in grounds. Lots of walks through the grounds, together with childrens playground a Frisbee golf. Right on Menai Straits with great views. Great place to spend a few hours.
Gorgeous place. The grounds are some of the best kept and largest that Ive been too. The views of the surrounding area are perfect. Have a look around the house, soak up some history and then relax in the grounds. Take a good phone or camera with you!
Lovely house and gardens. They have red squirrel woodland around, unfortunately I didnt get to see any. They were a bit late opening the house but other than that no waiting around.
Wow. What a place. Simply stunning. The setting is fabulous and looks right over the Menai straights. The staff are super friendly and the grounds are beautiful. If you like stately homes in amazing places then this is for you and the National Trust are doing their usual amazing job.If you like theme parks, making lots of noise and being constantly entertained then look elsewhere. As you can probably tell, I loved it!
Lovely house and grounds. Great views along the Menai Strait. Nice walk around the aboretum. The café was of the usual NT high standard. Well worth a visit if youre in the area.
Great day out for all the family. Beautiful gardens and great views
Love this place. The gardens are amazing. Also one of my favourite murals
What a beautiful place for a day out, bring a picnic and enjoy the gardens, have a look around the house
A lovely stately home, with great artwork, splendid gardens, with wildflower meadows, italian garden and arboretum, great views over the menai strait to mainland Wales, the guides were friendly and knowledgable, and the ice cream sold outside the main house was among the best Ive tasted!
Brilliant National trust. Lovely views, nice house, plenty of gardens and good play park for kids
Stunning house, surrounded by beautiful, well kept gardens. Lots of space for the kids to run off some energy too!
We had a lovely day at this National Trust property and say the amazing Rex Whistler mural.
Didnt go into the house, but walked the gardens & Woods. The dogs absolutely loved it,with plenty of sniffing done🐶😁
Another National Trust gem if youre in the area. The painting inside is quite spectacular. the grounds are lovely to walk around.
Its all about Rex Whistler, Waterloo and Red Squirrels. So a great day out fantastic views of the straits and Bridge too.
Stopped for a short visit to see the grounds and it was very nice. Its a lot bigger than it seems, we spent around an hour walking through the woods and outside the house next to the strait and could have done more.Staff friendly and refreshments were good quality.Recommended.
Despite the restoration work there was plenty to see. Beautiful gardens and amazing vie6
As most trust houses full of history and storys this one involved battle of Waterloo located on Anglesey lovely setting also a chance to see red squirrels. Well worth a visit
After visiting the longest station name in Europe why not call in here and see this wonderful house and gardens, I did and was pleasantly surprised. Courteous and friendly staff, nice cafe and shop. Great view along the Menai Straits from here. Inside the house you will find many artistic pieces including the former dining room that contains Rex Whistler`s magnum opus mural, awesome.
Gorgeous place! Beautiful gardens and woods. The views over and down the Menai Straits are stunning. House is currently under some renovation so not entirely able to be viewed but enough of interest. Stuff for children to do, play area and a tree house. Something called Frisbee Golf 🤔. Definitely one of my favourite National Trust properties.
Nice place, friendly staff. Gardens are lovely with excellent views of Snowdonia.
Lovely views from excellent gardens. House undergoing refurbishment however still able to visit a lot of rooms including the unfinished mural. Good cafe at entrance
The gardens are lovely and great views of the Menai Strait on a sunny clear day but unfortunately the house lacked much interest once inside. You can easily walk around the house in approx 30 minutes. It has so much more potential.
Beautiful gardens, well stocked shop with pleasant, friendly staff. Good choices of lovely food in the cafe.
National Trust Property House, Gardens and plenty of walks. Sat on the banks of the Menai Straight. Pleasant place to visit.
Beautiful setting and the Earl of Uxbridge military room very interesting. House could do with more period furniture.
Wonderful setting overlooking the Menai Strait. Very interesting interiors including the large mural and paintings by Rex Whistler.
A grand house full of beautiful things, in a great position with lovely garden and beautiful views of the Menai straights and Snowdonia
On entering the shop we received a very warm welcome from the staff at the ticket counter. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the views along the Menai strait are fabulous. We took our dog just for a stroll around the grounds (must be kept on a lead). We are National trust members and will return again to visit the house.
This is such a nice place to visit, shame the house was closed but still enjoyable. The red squirrel walk was really good and very informative and very enjoyable. We seen so many red squirrels, were quite surprised, but really enjoyable. Would highly recommend visiting as some nice ground to walk and enjoy. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Lovely grounds, I havent been in the house because I mainly visit to photograph wildlife, the red squirrels here are great, early in the day is much better for seeing them, but there is lots of birdlife here as well. If you dont have a membership it can work out quite expensive if you are a family.
Beautiful place for a woodland walk around the grounds, stunning views of the Menai Strait.
Fantastic place. Well worth a visit.House beautiful and guides very knowledgeable. Fascinating history. Gardens stunning Italian Terraces are amazing so beautiful. And then to see the Red Squirrels icing on the cake.
Lovely views across the water. The history was informative and made me want to know more of Wellingtons trusted friend and Field Marshall Lord Uxbridge (a few of his titles)... Only the downstairs part of the house was available to view but this and the grounds with lovely mature scrubs and plants was more than sufficient... a lovely peaceful part of this mad world to escape to...will go again.
What a marvellous day we had here, capped off by spotting a red squirrel! Stunning gardens allied to woodland walks plus a great house and exhibitions make this a must visit spot! The cafes are also good with a nice selection of food.
A lovely place to visit on Anglesey.Nice walk, lovely house.Tea room was good too.Staff were very friendly and helpful. The Rex Whistler paintings were exquisite.Definitely worth a visit.A great day out.
Very nice, relaxing place. Ice cream shop didnt accept card when we went, they are independently run from NT though. Just a heads up if you fancy an Ice cream, take cash
Beautiful place! It has some amazing species of tress and flowers. Alot of them seem.amwrocam inspired. Lovely to walk round, cafe on site which offer lovely food. A great day out.
