I couldnt say enough wonderful things about my experience with PVSEC and the entire staff. I needed to get somewhere asap to have my cat looked at and they told me to bring her in immediately, they were extremely busy but took her right in. They truly had her best interest in mind and explained every step and prognosis in detail. They did everything in their power to make her as comfortable as possible given the situation. I felt so much compassion from every single person that was helping me decide what was best to do for her. They made sure I got to spend the last moments with my baby and gave me all the time I needed. I believe the pricing was quite fair and it included the cost to have her sent to the funeral home to be cremated. Thank you so so much for everything you did for my kitty and I.

PVSEC took amazing care of my beagle when she was (literallysick as a dog. The front desk staff was so warm and helpful -- even in the dead of night (thank you, Lisa!-- and nurses/techs and Doctor were communicative, efficient and got my girl feeling better ASAP.Ive seen many complain about wait times -- but Ive sat in the waiting room of other ER vets for 10+ hours waiting for my pet to be admitted, and then had to continue waiting there for updates. At PVSEC, they had her in the back and were checking her vitals within 30 mins of my arrival, and once she was admitted, I was able to go home and receive updates via phone until it was time to pick her up. The Doctor called regularly with very thorough updates -- I was floored by her diligence and care.I fully trust this ER and cant recommend it enough.

I cannot even put into words what these people did for us. We had a new kitten that we got from someone else as rescue and was declining rapidly as it was younger than we had been told. They took her straight in, they took us straight back and they were the most sympathetic people Ive ever met in my life. These people deal with this all day, every day and I know they must be "used to it" so to speak, but I would have believed you if you said we were the first to have an animal needing put down. They treated us so individually it was unbelievable. They were so empathetic... They were so crazy busy, but took their time. They cared... they really cared. Although we had to put the kitten down, we could not have brought her to a better place. Amazing people here... thank you for everything you do!

Do Not Recommend taking your pet here. I brought my pet in for vomiting, they did a ultrasound on my pet. And after not seeing anything lodged in the intestines, (like I had thoughtthey proceeded to tell me my pet NEEDED to be Gtubed and that I needed to get there asap to sign the releases for treatment. They said it could be from 2800 to over 5500. And I needed to make a decision right now. Without saying I have options to try to at home, they acted like my dog would die. I decided to pick my pet up and get a second opinion. I am so thankful I did because 5k wouldve been a waste! This place only cares about money, and not your loved pet. Do not take them here . Go anywhere else !! Please please please do not waste your money without getting a second opinion of someone else. I am so thankful today for not putting my pet through what this place wanted to do. She is home, happy, and healthy .

I brought my last dog here a few months ago. They were incredibly rude and told us if we didn’t pay, then we had to put her down. They had no problem killing my dog after I said that we weren’t going to be able to pay almost $3,000 to get her stomach fixed.Fast forward, to yesterday. My dog (who’s only 3was sick all day (Tuesday and Wednesdayso we called in. They were rude on the phone. We waited for over an hour in the lobby (which is fine. they could’ve been busybut didn’t let me see the sonogram they gave my dog. So i don’t know if they really did one or not. A few hours later, they called me saying how I needed to pay between $2,000-$5,000 for them to help my dog, and made it seem like a life or death surgery. I ended up picking her up and taking her to a different vet, and still made me pay over $500 for stuff they probably didn’t even do.At the other Vet, the staff was so nice and now my puppy is home and fine. These people are money hungry and ignorant.

I had to make a late night visit to PVSEC when I came home from a business trip and found that my senior cat was extremely lethargic and had not been eating. Although this was a stressful experience for myself and my cat, the entire staff showed incredible compassion and professionalism throughout the entire ordeal. The night shift receptionists were very kind while I was waiting for my cat to be triaged. The emergency room doctor clearly explained the course of treatment and answered all of my questions. My cat was admitted for two nights, during which I received regular updates on her status and treatment plan. The tech in charge of discharge also went through the aftercare procedures with me and answered all of my questions. Although I hope to not have to come back soon, it is reassuring to know that there is such an excellent emergency center in the area.

No one ever wants to have a sick pet, but every time I’ve needed to come in I’ve felt respected and been given compassionate care. Like any ER the wait times vary and the environment can be challenging but the staff, including Lisa and Amber at the front desk, are doing their best to keep every pet alive and seen.

I called the Emergency part of this practice at the end of July. My little soulmate was in congestive heart failure and I thought it was time. They were kind and told me to bring him in. He passed on our way there. I ended up just bringing him home until my regular vet openedin the morning (it was only a few hours at that point). We ended up not needing their services but the kindness they showed me over the phone was priceless. As was knowing they were open and willing to see us.My other dog saw Dr. Finn a week ago for an eye issue. Our regular vet wanted to be sure she didnt have a worse underlying issue that he couldnt see. Thankfully, she doesnt! But the staff and doctor were all kind and efficient. Nothing but praise from us!

Honestly wish i could give less then 1 star. Last night my wife and i took our 1-week-old kitten here for a swollen abdomen, once we got there, we informed the tech Alexandria, that our kitten was on a feeding schedule (Just like it stated in her discharge paperworkAnd the kitten would need to be fed within the hour of us being there, she acknowledged and stated that they will take care of our kitten. Fast forward roughly 6 hours, we were told that all they did was watch his vitals, no test, nothing to determine the cause of the swollen abdomen. The staff didnt even take the time out to feed the kitten. I honestly dont know where they get off calling themselves a Veterinary specialist or Emergency clinic if they could not do something as simple as making sure the kitten was fed. That was the least they could do since there was no diagnosis.

My cat was dying and it was after midnight. We drove an hour to PVS and I am thankful we did. They were so compassionate and empathetic and took very good care of our baby. They made the process very calm and peaceful. They sent us home with a paw print ornament and our baby was prepared for burial. It was very comforting seeing how they care for animals.

Was called "inhumane" by Dr. Pardo for continuing to treat my pets cancer which is ironic coming from a hospital that supposedly has an oncology department. I contacted national "customer service" about this and several other issues we had during this visit and they DID NOT EVEN RESPOND!!! The ultrasound I paid $500 for was not even good enough to be relied on for a second opinion, we had to go elsewhere and pay again!! Ive had good experiences at other Blue Pearls but because of this experience, I will never use any Blue Pearl again for any of our pets. Of course doctors can suggest Euthanasia but to call a customer "inhumane" is very scummy and unethical bedside manner!

We had to rush our dog Amara to PVSEC last Thursday because she was either not breathing or in anaphylactic shock or both.We called and made sure they could see us, they told us to come on in. We got there and Amara was taken back to be helped before we even finished paperwork. Thanks to the care she received, Amara was discharged and we got to take her home. Dr. Ahuja was very thorough and talked us through what to say to our vet to get Amara back on track. We were there for almost eight hours, and in those eight hours we watched not just Dr. Ahuja but the front desk staff Amber and Lisa display some of the most compassionate care weve ever seen. In our time there, three families did not get to take their furbabies home- Amber and Lisa were very kind and understanding of the grieving families while also making the end-of-life process run as smoothly as it could. Dr. Ahuja came out to speak with every family personally, not just on the phone, and you could truly tell she cared about the animals in her care. We cannot imagine having to see this every single day, but we watched those three handle these losses like superheros. The only negative thing to note that occurred was halfway through our visit, a red shirt wearing typical Karen came in screeching about a medication refill (which could have been handled earlier, not after-hours at the ERand demanding she be the Prima Donna of the emergency vet. In addition to treating Amber and Lisa like scum on her shoe, this woman berated a family that was sitting there waiting with a visibly seriously injured but stable dog before they could be seen. Amber and Lisa handled her outburst with as much poise and professionalism as they could- however this woman then started berating them for being heartless and threatened to expose them on Google. To that woman, who I hope reads this: You should be ashamed of yourself. Your tantrum occurred in front of a family that was waiting to say goodbye to a furry family member that didnt make it. You are almost a senior citizen, youve had plenty of time to learn how to treat people and yet you still fell short. The only heartless person in that ER was you.We cannot speak high enough about the care our dog received, and while we hope to never need the PVSEC ER again, we know should any of our dogs need it that they are safe at PVSEC.

Our only option in this city for emergencies , our doctor was very thorough, and explained our diagnosis, and unfortunately we had to put our cat down, My only complaint of this place would be the staff member that had the audacity to come in the room whilst we are with our cat before sedation. And wanted to go over the bill! Really? How rude and unacceptable. Money was never an issue with us. Whatever it cost. Our cc was on file. Bill it. But to come in the room while we are already broke down an saying our goodbyes. To talk about the bill? Really get some staff that have some empathy. Love the doctor. And the facility. But that lady was crude to do that.

Last night my daughter’s dog was hit by a car and brought here. Lisa at the front was extremely comforting and helpful. She helped calm our nerves and distract us with conversation. When the situation got emotional she helped explain what was happening. We felt she went above and beyond what we would have ever expected. Our emergency doctor, Dr. Abuja was amazing too. She treated my daughter and me with great tenderness and care. She was honest but kind. We appreciated her candor. Ultimately we had to put down our dog. We will be eternally grateful for the kindness and compassion we had during our visit. We have the utmost respect for these professionals.

Just a disclaimer that this is a veterinary hospital vs a regular vet office so prices are high accordingly, just like a human ER. But if you have to come in you have to come in. That aside, we have had our little guy (young catin several times in the last few weeks and everytime I have been in, the vet techs and doctors I have interacted with have been stellar. The nicest people you will meet. They treat our little guy so well, and they take the time to make sure you understand absolutely everything. Now - unrelated to this hospital. If you feel that your pet has an ongoing chronic disease, you should invest in pet insurance before the pet gets diagnosed. After the pet gets diagnosed, it counts as a preexisting condition and pet insurance will not cover expenses related to the chronic condition. This is the difference between a few hundred dollar deductible and quickly racking up thousands of dollars in bills. Good luck! Highly recommend this place.

This place has gone downhill tremendously. It’s such a shame that they don’t actually seem to care about your animals, just your wallets. The lady at the front desk was not a nice person at all. My dog has a seemingly broken leg, and they took us to triage and gave us our options. We decided to have the doctor examine him, then we would move forward from there. Her words to us were, he’ll be with you as soon as possible. Okay, no worries. After waiting 3 hours, we overheard a nurse tell someone else that the ER was at a 14 hour wait. Yet, the sign outside says 2 hours. So, if it had been accurate, or if the triage nurse mentioned 14 hours, we may have made a different decision! Instead they locked him in a cage for 3 hours by himself. When we finally told them we want to bring him home, suddenly, the doctor was magically available to look at his chart!!!! Lol. Such a joke. Never coming here again. It’s a shame because they helped my dog in the past. But the pandemic really made them heartless.

Zero stars is my rating.Never, ever again. Costs are exorbitant, ludicrous...55 dollars for 100 ccs of fluid when the entire bag of 1000 ccs can be bought for 20 dollars?Wait time is ridiculous, waited three weeks for a scheduled appointment and for one, the other pet, I entered at 4am and was the only on in the waiting room, ended up waiting 6 hours for blood work, fluids and an AB for 800.00. I counted empty cars in the upper lot as I waited that day...25. How is this to be blamed on under-staffing? When a sandwich board out front informs you that you may wait for 8 to 12 hours for a visit, something is wrong.Communication is horrible, I was told to wait for a procedure which was scheduled at 8, was early and checked in on time, waited until 10, then called in to find out they hadnt even started yet, went to work, was told I would receive a call when my best friend went into the procedure but they didnt. Found front desk staff to be absolutely rude and ignorant. Dark, long haired girl wouldnt answer a simple question, then looked off as if I werent standing there and then started talking about her weekend. When an animal is truly sick, doctors MUST communicate between specialties to ensure the best possible outcome, but not here. I was not given an option which might have saved my best friends life and found out about it when it was just too late.Follow up care is NOT in their vocabulary. A simple request for a bag of fluids was denied because it wasnt prescribed before... Treat me like Im an idiot and have never given fluids or that I dont know when an animal needs them or suggest I travel there again to pay the fees for an injection of overpriced fluids. I obtained them from a vet willing to work with me.Am I burning this bridge? Absolutely. My best friend is now dead too soon, I am convinced there was more that could have been done or offered for him. I am completely lost without him. All that remains is an aching heart, empty arms and a multiple thousand dollar bill to pay off because MONEY is the only concern at this facility. I should have requested Cleveland, where they are much nicer, caring and thorough before jacking my credit card up at this place.

If your pet is having scary symptoms don’t hesitate to bring them here. They almost immediately triaged my cat and determined she was ok to wait until our regular clinic opened, advising us to go there with no charge for the evaluation. My family’s pets have received nothing but the best care here. They are expensive but when your pet needs the type of care they provide, there is often no alternative. We are lucky to have this resource here in Pittsburgh.

Do not take your pet to PVSEC Emergency Room! We were forced to take our beloved dog through the ER to get care, as we were told we couldnt see the specialist for 4-5 months. He needed liver lobe surgery. The doctor saw a nodule on his spleen and decided to remove the spleen while he was in there (it was benign). It took the "fairly common" surgery to one too big for my dog to recover from. Our sweet dog suffered horribly for 6 days. It has taken me 6 months to even be able to write this review and I am still here in tears. Since this occurred, I have heard nothing but horror stories of their ER misdiagnosis and pets never making it home.

These people should be ashamed of themselves. This post is about a year and half too late but I just need to share our terrible experience and just how bad these people are just about the money. Long story short our puppy had parvo. They originally quoted us roughly $2800 for 2 days of care. By morning of the next day they told us we were up to $3200 and if we wanted to continue care it would be another $6000 for plasma and transfusions and all kinds of b.s. Well we were not ready to spend that kind of money so they said we had to put her down. Luckily my sister worked at a vets office and requested her chart. Once reviewed it was determined that she was not that bad. Essentially she just needed an iv with fluids and few days later she was fine. So they wanted almost 10k and had no problem putting her down. She’s almost 2 now and doing fine, no help to PVSEC. Shame on them!

Absolutely the worst. They will make you take put a personal loan to pay for pet care. You ask them to update you before they do anything and you end up with a bill for $2500. The vet tech lied and said they would call and they never did. I had to call 1 time to get an update and my husband had to call and the vet 2 times decided with out consultation to keep the cat. If my husband hadnt called them would have kept her over night for another day and charged 2500 more dollars with outletsus know. What a rip off. Dont trust the quote they are full of junk. Watch your wallet. Although they advertise a “free” triage (I wasn’t expecting free and would gladly pay a reasonable amount for services), that quickly jumped to a full panel of tests running over $900. They have a well oiled system to rack up charges - instead of systematically determining a diagnosis (ie. Run a test / X-ray of most likely issue , check results, then test further if necessary). Only go as a last resort. Went to reg vet a day later - completely different experience

A local veterinarian had done some unacceptable surgery on my pet which appalled me and knowing from previous pet experience with your establishment that your doctors could improve the situation I brought him to your hospital and once again your staff worked miracles to remedy the pre-existing surgery.Once again my hats off to all those involved in the situation, Thank you so much for your expertise and caring.

Friendly staff and they got us in quickly on a holiday. Our cat was having urinary problems and we wanted to make sure it wasnt a blockage, which can be life threatening. The vet tech examined him and took his vitals. She explained that hes not in pain and did not have a blockage, so we could wait until our normal vet was open to get further care and confirm if it was a urinary infection or simply stress-induced. They did not even charge us since the veterinarian didnt have to examine him!

This emergency vet office has been so amazing. I brought my 13 year old dog in today and the receptionists were so welcoming and supportive. I did wait a while to hear about his prognosis (not good, Ive been crying all nightbut I have found that we do have to wait for all things good (e.g. Disney World lines). The doctor we saw was soooo personable and real. She helped me through making some very hard choices and was supportive of my decisions while still giving me the real talk. We still have a lot of decisions to make tomorrow but on my way out a receptionist named Lisa was just so incredibly uplifting and encouraging. Some of the reviews on here are ridiculous. I have experienced some of the most attentive care I have ever received for my fur baby. Yes, the wait times are long but spend one night in the waiting room lobby and you will understand why. Phone never stops ringing, animals coming in with life threatening situations. You will wait long if your animal is not experiencing a life threatening situation and this should be understandable. My cat was brought back immediately and treated quickly. Dr. Lange has been amazing, caring, and attentive. They did not do anything without calling and asking me first. They were very upfront with the cost and what to expect. Dr. Lange was very thorough and always answering any questions I had. It is extremely expensive but you are receiving specialty care and this is to be expected? They will run extensive testing if they see fit.

Took my cat in that had previously been diagnosed with CHF for a echocardiogram with the Cardiology Department. Vet Tech was wonderful, kind, explained the procedure and took a comprehensive history. They even contacted my vet and the emergency veterinarian facility my cat had been too and obtained testing results and scans. Dr Brown was amazing. Thoroughly explained the results. Turns out my cat has pulmonary issues not CHF. I am so glad I saw a specialist or she would have remained on a medication that was not appropriately treating the issue. Very happy with the kind staff and service. I read these reviews of the emergency department issues and feel bad both for the people bringing in their pets and the staff. I would recommend everyone keep in mind that this is owned by a corporation and staffing issues are an issue with the management. They either are not staffing properly or not paying enough to retain staff. All veterinarian facilities are having a tough time now most likely due to these issues. The AVETS I went to in Monroeville was having the exact same issues. You get what you pay for. When your focus on profits, the patients suffer.

Im glad PVSEC was available to provide care that wasnt available at my regular vet, and everyone we worked with was very kind and professional. However, they werent the best at communication. After my cats endoscopy, I was told theyd call with the results within two days. But I ended waiting over a week to hear from them again. Also, I called to make sure that the records of every visit would be sent to my regular vet, and was assured that they had been sent. But when I went back to my regular vet, they hadnt received any information from PVSEC at all. Quite frustrating.

Excellent Emergency Care! My Frenchie was hit by a car. I rushed her to Urgent Care in Wheeling. They stabilized her & were sending her home. I felt she needed 24/7 care. So they referred us to PVSEC & called to tell them we were coming.Upon arrival they took her back IMMEDIATELY. I was told up front the cost, which was actually lower than I expected. I wanted her monitored for a day or 2, but they said theyd only do it if the Vet determined it was medically necessary, which it ended up it was. They kept my girl comfortable & provided regular updates. The vets explained things thoroughly & were more than willing to answer any questions.Special thanks to Shana the night vet tech that monitored her & answered my worried phone calls. As I sat there for a few hours, I saw numerous pets come in. If I could give no stars, believe me I would. I was REFERRED to this animal hospital from my local hospital because my cat has a major mass in his throat that is causing him to have trouble breathing/not eat. He’s lost over half is body weight in less than 2 weeks and needs a CT scan. Ok I get they are busy and understaffed but honestly got the vibe that dogs are priority there no matter what. My tech was rude and straight up told us it was not an emergency that my cat isn’t able to breathe properly. Told us no we couldn’t talk to the actual vet but also had no clue herself. My 10 year old Cocker spaniel (Terriwas diagnosed with glacoma by her regular vet. He put in a referral for her to be seen by an ophthalmologist at PVSEC and to wait for a call from them to schedule an appointment. They called me on a Saturday, 2 days after the referral was sent over by our vet. The scheduler was extremely kind and patient with me as I had questions about the visit. Terri was seen on Monday, 2 days after they received the referral. The entire process we extremely organized and we only waited 10 minutes for her to be seen. It was during the covid pandemic so I couldnt go in. The tech that came out to get her was very gentile and kind with Terri. She informed me that the doctor would call me after the exam. Maybe 10 minutes later Dr. Lawrence Bagley called to go over the exam. Now to give Dr. Bagley and his assistants my review. If I could go past 5 stars I definitely would! Dr. Bagley and his assistants were truly amazing. Without going into detail about Terris visits over the next 16 months were by far over the top!! He tried his darnness to save her site but with no fault of his efforts, I made the hard decision to have Terri s eyes removed. The Glaucoma caused pressure behind the eyes which caused her pain. I didnt realize Cocker spaniels are prone to eye issues. Everyone was always helpful and compassionate with Terri. They were very prompt to return my phone calls and had patience with me when I asked a million questions. I loved Dr Bagley. I saw his concern and compassion when examining Terri. I would definitely recommend him to those looking for his services. Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart ❤

We brought our epileptic dog in yesterday (a Sunday eveningwith cluster seizures. I was a mess because she has never clustered before. She stopped seizing before we got there and they got her in quickly and monitored her for a few hours before giving us a few different treatment options. The doctor spent a lot of time with me talking through all of the questions I had and was clearly very knowledgeable about canine epilepsy (this has not always been our experience with vets). I just want to say how appreciative I am of the amount of time the doctor spent talking to me and talking through options. It makes such a huge difference in situations like this where you are feeling hopeless/devastated. The bill was also incredibly reasonable for an emergency visit. Hoping we never need to take her again but very thankful to have them just ten minutes away. Daisy is resting happily at home for now.

My dogs were sprayed by a skunk. They were no help at all. Kept putting me on hold. Would not treat/see or even recommend how to treat a skunk spray. I asked them if they carried the special shampoo and if I could buy it from them through prescription. They told me no. They did recommend a couple other Emergency Vet Clinics that were so much more help and open to helpful conversation. Weird that they could not even help treat something as minor as a skunked puppy. I would give them zero stars but atleast the other clinics they suggested were much more helpful and open to helpful conversation/suggestions. Through one of the clinics they suggested, I did find the name of the shampoo I needed and where to buy it. This is the second time they have not helped me at all. Would not recommend unless it is a dire emergency.

Our dog was on the brink of death and they saved him. Daily reports, someone was with him 24/7, they sent us pictures during his recovery, and they were so kind and patient. Dr. Cunningham in surgery explained everything easily, and made sure we understood everything he said. The front desk staff were great too. Thank you all so, so much for saving my boy.

We had to come here on Easter because our puppy got into some uncooked bread dough we were baking for the holiday. The staff were extremely kind, very efficient, and responsive. The doctor we talked to was informative and calm and was able to recommend two options for treatment that were both very reasonable and didn’t kill our wallet. We were very thankful for the treatment and kindness.

My dog has disc disease and Dr. Mackillop has spared her from having to have surgery twice. He’s absolutely the best - a wonderful vet and super nice guy (along with great staff). I can’t recommend him or this hospital higher for your pet!

We have been seeing Dr. Ashton in internal medicine. She is very knowledgeable, caring and is great with Zoe! Zoe’s condition has resolved and just will need to continue with medication and have 6 month follow ups. So happy she was able to help her! A+

Dr. Edward MacKillop was excellent with my dog Athena. She has been having seizures and he helped us on a new course of action. I drove three and a half hours to see him based on a recommendation from my primary veterinarian and I will do it again to receive great care. The nurses and reception were extremely friendly and everyone truly seemed to care. I highly recommend the neurology department!

Has to be one of the worst places that exists in Pennsylvania.I called around about my dog as a caring pet owner should. I couldnt get her into her regular vet because it was closed and we needed to do an emergency vet because I was worried about her stomach and her symptoms. I called multiple places that pushed me away and recommended this place. So I called this place as a caring concerned owner where I get met with the most disgusting person alive apparently, their behavior was so sour and foul. I would never recommend this place to anyone or waste my money here.I was trying to tell them my dog symptoms and if I could see about getting her in and she just kept cutting me off and not giving no insight about anything that was going on. Because it could have been just minor constipation and something that didnt need surgery. But they didnt care to tell me anything or express any concerns, wouldnt even listen to me. They were just cutting me off and being ignorant with attitude and just saying bring your dog in thats all we can do. Luckily I called elsewhere and was able to get her in. So I decided to go read the reviews and I seen that so many other people had an unpleasant time here and that theyre all about money. And now I see why. Please take your pet to a place that isnt just about money and has ignorant people working for them that dont care about animals lives. Go somewhere where they have a caring and loving staff that are willing to work with you and help figure out your situation and or your problem and to ensure that youre lovely pet gets back to being healthy.Dated March 2022.

Honestly, it makes me sad to see some of the comments/reviews. PVSEC was excellent from the beginning when we scheduled the appointment through the end when we had to make the toughest decision for our beloved pet. Their communication was excellent during Otto’s entire weeklong stay, they were upfront with the cost and procedures, and they were kind when they had to deliver the bad news about his kidneys. They were patient answering all of my many questions. Is it expensive, absolutely, but this is not routine care. It is a specialty hospital doing everything they can to make sure your pet receives the proper care. When adopting a pet into your family, you have to realize the pet will age, and with age comes health problems. You took on the responsibility for caring for this living being when you brought them into your home, you knew there we’re going to be costs associated with your furry companion. So, if you care about your pet, please ignore the negative reviews regarding cost- they are giving you top of the line, specialty care that you cannot receive from your primary vet. We lost our Otto, but we know that he received the best care at the best possible place and they did everything they could within their power to make him better.
