Royal Carrangarra Hotel in Blackall Tambo

The chicken race was a blast and well worth the stopover to see the excitement and unique event. The guy that runs the race was well practiced and really made the whole event a lot of fun and funny too. Amazing to see how much people are willing to bet on the race. For such a small town the race rally draws in the crowd. We stayed for multiple beers and played pool and had a good night at the pub after. Lots of fun and I would recommend the experience.

Brilliant beaut meal but me chook didnt win

Pet friendly hotel right in town. Had steak & veg which was delicious. Staff friendly. Chicken races recommended by Tambo motel & caravan park a short stroll away. Recommend a visit to this very friendly Queensland town

We stayed at the Caravan Parl across the road but the chicken races were lots of fun. We were happy to by a chicken for the race knowing that half the $$ were going toa charity.Great Thai beef salad. It must have been a whole steak!! Not a couple of wafer thin slices. Great hosts and friendly everybodies.

Arrived to set up at the Tambo Caravan Park and greeted by the courtesy bus around 5pm for the chicken races!!! Glad we went - amazing night of entertainment, great people , exceptional food and a ride home when finished. Ben is an amazing publican and this needs to be on your stopover list!!!

Went down for a beer and to watch the chicken races. Ben does a great job with the chicken races and with half the auction money going to charity he deserves to be applauded for what he has accomplished.

A great place to see the chicken/chook race which was well run by Ben. Many laughs at his joke selection whilst carrying out the chook auction, with money going to a worthwhile charity. Well done Ben.Providing very good meals and speedy service whilst under fairly busy conditions.

Great craft beer on tap, terrific Country Pub atmosphere and hospitality.The highlight is Bens Chicken Racing each evening at 5.00pm. Bid for 1 of 9 "racing chickens" half proceeds to the winner and half to a Childrens Charity.I believe Ben has raised in excess of $35K, wonderful work!

Ben and his chicken races are huge fun. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, had drinks , meals and bought merchandise. Our daughter even "bought" a chicken

Arrived 4.45pm to find seating for an eve of Quirky entertainment.Our Group of 7 found Tambo Mill Caravan Park (we had the motel roomsvery clean with caring managementWe did enjoy dinner at the Royal Carrangarra hotel.. efficient service with keen staffHighy recommend including a stop over in Tambo

Home of the great chicken race. A fund-raiser in part for RFDS and worthy of support. Host is comical and foods excellent. Best to order meals before the show or they run out. Had a lot of fun.

We drove an extra 200 kms just to see Bens famous chook races and we werent disappointed. Very funny, a great atmosphere , highly recommended. We stayed on for dinner and a few beers. All good. Well done Ben, youre a genius.

Loved the chicken races and enjoyed a delicious dinner and was then delivered back to our van via courtesy bus. Staff were so lovely. Well done Royal Carrangarra.

So entertaining...go for the daily chicken race it is so well done. Service is great in all areas of this pub. We took a room for night to get out of a tent..$59 fair value for a clean basic room. Shared amenities . Yes It is an old pub but hanging in there so support it. Food excellent too.

Friendliest pub dogs ever, the adorable Sue and Memphis will be sure to welcome you. Broad range of beverages at good prices, delicious food. Highly recommend the rissoles, they melt in your mouth as does the mash. The crumbed steak was great too both around $20 so brilliant value. The chook races are great fun and for a good cause. Ben was welcoming, friendly and a great host. Really good pub experience. Thank you.

We are staying in our caravan out on the Barcoo River and the pub sent a bus to collect us along with other travelers and took us to the pub for the Chicken Races. We had such a good time and the races are very entertaining and raise funds for charity. We had drinks and a meal and were taken back to our vans afterwards. What a great service and a great night.

Stopped at the Pie hole at the Royal Carrangarra hotel. The pies were nice and the company was even nicer. We were greeted by Sue (black dogand Memphis (brown dog). Memphis’ manners were beautiful, saying please multiple times while eating my pie.

While the food was fine the cleanliness of the place was terrible. There was hair on the sheets, the towels ragged and old and rubbish on the room floor beside the bed still. Would not recommend.

Have chicken races there and food was not over priced if like pie peas mashed potato is ten bucks if order before 5 pm and save 5bucks and can get eat it after 6 pm. They have take away meals there as what we got.

Had fun with the chook races. Very well done with half the proceeds going to the Royal Flying Doctors. Lovely Mel looked after us at the bar.

Chicken races are a must if youre in the area! Ben and Toby were funny. The local beer was very good. We didnt win a race, but we still felt like winners!

The pub itself leaves a lot to be desired but the pies are tasty and the chicken racing is a great night.Highly recommend for a bit of fun.

Great entertainment and a credit to the young publican who does a great job as the auctioneer and race caller. Funds raised go to Flying Doctors. Meals okay. If youre into home made pies, mushy peas, mash and gravy preorder by 5 pm and it only costs $10 and served at 6 pm after the chook race - it looked delicious.

We first visit this great old Hotel in Tambo before going down to the unwelcoming Tambo tavern down the road (We should have stay here to eat & continue with a couple more drinks)...Just love the old fashion simple service at the Bar, before heading out back to the Chicken Race or Pick a ChickThe atmosphere was great with about 15 people there along with the owners calling the bets & the race itself & it was funny to see the remote control car failed at the end of the race!Well done guys & thank you as you made us laugh along with rest of the small crowd.We just wished we had stayed for dinner & tried this homemade famous pie along with other great offers...Next time when we pass through..Would recommend this great hotel for their support of the local flying doctors, so keep up the good work..Cheers!

Came into town late but luckily did not miss the chicken races. Great fun and making money for a great cause. Friendly staff, good service, enjoyed the meals (black angus steak with chips & salad and a garlic prawns). Showers were hot. Thanks for a good experience.
