Very peaceful and relaxing place to take a walk, but watch out during Tick season. Its easy to spend a few hours walking the trails and looking at wildlife.
I do not recommend this park on days over 80 degrees if you walking because there is very little shade. I am normally there for about 1 to 2 hours each time I visit.
Its a really great park with forested areas, as well as grassy/open areas. The only downside is that the ticks can get pretty bad; so be prepared.
I thoroughly enjoy hiking here. Restores my soul! Peaceful and beautiful.
The reason this park is the absolute best - better than most RV Parks too, is the VOLUNTEER CAMP HOSTS! Tim and Kim are absolutely phenomenal and will do absolutely anything they can to make sure whether you stay for a night, week, 2 weeks or longer, that you are completely satisfied! Beautiful park in a secluded area with some paved sites with all hookups, some electric/water only, and some sites have horse pens in back to accommodate your larger animals! I come here every time I am down here, knowing whatever could happen is taken care of already! Thanks Tim and Kim for showcasing the beauty!
Great place to walk and to see scenery we saw a eagle and seen the white of the tail of a deer while walking today
Very peaceful we love it just wish the little lake had more water in it so we could fish.
Absolutely terrible. The permanent residents of this park are very conceited and it made for a really uncomfortable experience for me and my family. There was a rather large individual who lives there that will scream at your kids if you are throwing rocks in the pond. He wasnt a park manager or anything, just a resident. Also the people that run the place are very rude too and nitpick on just about anything. This park is great if you are staying short term and cant afford anything nicer, but I would HIGHLY advise against living there. The rules are super strict and I promise it will be a nightmare for you and your family. DONT DO IT!
Nice clean park just needs some shade which it will have in years to come
Unfortunately, I forgot my Deep Woods Off. Ticks and flies were hangry! Trail is a little overgrown, but still able to foot about. Pretty time of year with the blooms.
It looks like this is mostly an RV park. It looked clean and well maintained. There are some hiking trails through the sand hills.
Only problem is no shade. Other than that it is a very nice campground.
Very well maintained. Very clean.
Lovely desert plants, yet a lush oasis in the prairie. Rustic. Romantic. Natural.
Nice spot for an overnight. Quiet night as it was raining somewhat. Some RVs and campers. Plenty of space.
It was a great place to get my kids out and walk some nature trails.
Nice small park. We had a pull through with power and water. Twenty one dollars for this site. Full hookups were $22. Yes, you had to pay a $5 day use, but the price was not bad compared to other places.
We are camping on a tent and last night was very windy. The bathrooms are closed, which is a bummer. But on the bright side, the park has free WIFI 👍
This seems like a really great state park. It was not crowded at all. The trails are well maintained and marked well. The trails are easy and the scenery is nice. Theres a nice big sand hill that is an easy climb and has a great view.
Wonderful place to hike with a lot of ground to cover. My husband I love to go in winter because there are less ticks, but I especially love September because there are a ton of wildflowers. Deet up! Go all year around but watch out for deep puddles and light flooding after a good rain!
My favorite place to go hiking in Reno county. The park has a nice blend of sand hill trails and forest trails you can get lost in for hours. Very enjoyable place to wander and get grounded in nature.
Love this park. Will go back. Wish they had a couple of playgrounds for the kids. One on each side of the pond. Also there is much ants and stickers on the grounds. Otherwise like I said we do love this park.
There are a lot of pull through cites at the campground. There is an abundance of room at the cites for extra vehicles or additional toys.
Went to visit my cousin staying there & was very impressed with the Park that I didnt even know was there. Such a nice place.
Friends stopped and stayed at the RV park while visiting us. There was dog poop everywhere. Apparently the low life with dogs do not understand respect of others and leaving the sites clean. PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS!
Had a great time with my family walking and exploring.. had 2 of our dogs with us with no problems. Great place.. plan to come here more often
Great prairie and woodland trails. Now added spring photos!
Pet friendly. Clean. Nice trails.Only complaint is all the sandburs where we parked the RV.
Nice variety in the trails. Good for a short hike over lunch or a long hike when time permits. Pet friendly and never crowded.
Very nice all paved roads and concrete to park the motor home on. Very Very nice. 100% satisfied. We will be back to camp..
Our site wasnt terribly level but there was ample space between sites and it was SOOO quiet there. Since there is no lake or playground there isnt much to do with little ones but for a nice quiet getaway for couples I highly recommend it.
It wasnt you standard walk in the park. Lots of sandy spots to hike through, dirt, grass and bugs. Great hike. Bring bug spray and a good trail shoe, kinda uneven and ruts here and there. Great hike!
Nicely mown or sandy dirt. There was a map at the trailhead, but the trails were not clearly marked
They really need an administrator come to this state park location. The man here (off dutyis really unbecoming and rude. The park map clearly shows primitive sites, taxes were and ARE paid for them...he is running it as his own personal can ground...and he tried to tell me he was going to charge me the same as an RV site. I know I didnt serve to be treated like this at a state park!
Nice new and clean. Not great for fishing with all the moss and how small the pond is. Its quiet and is a good place to camp though.
Great State Park Campground. Only downside was goosepoop everywhere. Kansas should go a little lighter on the adhesive on one day vehicle passes. That stuff works but takes forever to remove.
Sandhill State Park is a great place to go get your walk done while being outside. The campground is a newer facility with the ability to bring your horses in some spots. Small water feature in the center of the grounds, but the water has been low every time I’ve been to visit. My family and I really like the walking paths through the state park. The “stairs” up the hill are needing to have some railroad ties replaced, otherwise it’s great. Be sure to check it out especially when the Yuccas are in bloom and when the sand plums turn red ❤️
A nice, clean campground to stay at while visiting the area. The sites are large with new picnic tables, lantern hooks and firepits. The sites encircle a pond that was low when we visited and had a ton of mosquitoes. The staff was friendly and efficient. Would definitely stay here again.
We stayed here a couple of nights in early June then stayed one night in mid June when we passed through again. If the hosts are off duty, self check-in is done. Because I had not been there before, self check-in was a little confusing the first time. Probably because we had no reservation and the self check-in form was only for one night. We used it and paid for two nights. There were no problems, but with the host not there to check us in we risked that someone could have reserved our site for the second night. That didnt happen. We stayed at one of the sites with a large concrete pad. Our concrete pad was level. All sites with a concrete pad also had a concrete patio area with a BBQ grill, table and fire ring. With our 28 foot trailer on the pad, there was plenty of room for our crew cab pickup truck to sit in front of the trailer. The concrete sites would get a 10 rating. The gravel sites probably a 9 rating only because the camp host has no help and is also doing maintenance the best he can. (Its a big place for one personThere were a few weeds. The ground is mostly sand (it is sand hills), so don’t expect to see a plush green grass lawn at this location. It probably cannot happen. There is a small lake. It is new and we did not fish in it. Oh, if you have horses there are special sites for you. Overall, we were very pleased. Setup cant get easier than it was on the concrete pad.We stopped here again on 6/17/2019 and the campground hosts were present. They were very pleasant. If you want to camp near Hutchinson, this is the place to do it.
Come get your nature on! Always open. Always good for cardio! Just know that sand sticks when it’s wet! 😂
Even though we got lost in the map that we picked up was a little sideways and didnt have most of the trails on it it was a really good time and Im glad I spent a lot more time that I wanted to go out there because its beautiful and the Sandhills are just fun to get on top of and look out on the landscape and see everything.
For a small State Park, it was fun for a short visit. There are various trails for both equestrian trail riding or hikers with varying lengths. Its easy to see wildlife here or traces such as deer prints. Its well taken care of as I did not see any litter to speak of.
Beautiful, natural Kansas grassland. Our family loves to walk our dogs here. There are miles of trails that never get boring.
Asthetically it isnt much. About the ugliest state park I have been to. My hammock wont be coming out this weekend. For convieniance and cleanliness it is fantastic. If youre not looking for scenery just a cheap place to stay for the fair this is the place.
We followed Google and entered the trails by the campground. Error No 1. A trail head before that has much clearer information. We started on the Dune trail and then went to the Woodlands trail. There were a few neat things, but not much. Maybe mid-August is just not a good time.
More of a parking lot than natural beauty. Positives: Clean shower, new, organized and friendly staff. Negatives: no camping on grass just rocks, trees are young, no shade yet.
Enjoy our visits here. Will be better when trees get bigger.Nice sized campsites.Camphost very friendly and helpful.Bathrooms/showers clean. Some sites the utilities are on the wrong side!!!
Did the hiking trails but didnt camp. Trails were nice but did get confused on which trail was which on the return loop.
This is a beautiful place to ride. Walkers are now allowed in the horse area. Be prepared. Runners and walkers pop up unexpectedly
Newly remodeled state park with pit toilets at the campground and at the nearby trail head, but no bathhouse. Full hookups available at some sites plus a dump station at the entrance. The campground is a bit austere given the remodel, but the vegetation should flesh out in the years to come. With the additional vehicle and processing fees, the cost is too high.
