Had a fantastic dinner here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The service was wonderful, staff were very kind in speaking English with us as our French isn’t very good, and the food was incredible. If you’re a fan of ST JOHN in London, you will love it here.
Came here for my birthday! Food absolutely amazing, packed with flavours and rich. Just what you would expect from Bordeaux! Service was also very friendly and professional! A must place to visit for great food and atmosphere.
We were in Bx and found this lovely place.excellent food and service and they really made a tough day better.. thx,PW
We went to La Tupina for lunch. I had the plat du jour of pasta stuffed with leeks, duck breast and a beignet with fruit. My wife had calamari and roasted chicken. Everything was prepared perfectly. We stay in Bordeaux two months every year but have somehow missed eating at La Tupina. We will make this one of our regular restaurants in the future as it is now one of our favorite places to eat out.
A real treat of meal. Squid was lovely and the beef and bone marrow were amazing. Would defo go back
What a restaurant. Ambience food and wine selection. A food experience. Rick Stein got it right in his visits.
Great ambience. Lovely food and plenty of it. Had lunch menu €21 per person. Great value. Very friendly helpful staff.
Fabulous meal! Delicious but service was haphazard. The waitress did not listen properly and got several things wrong as a result.
Best restaurant in Bordeaux. Went ten years ago, returned this year. Still fabulous. Food is out of this world. Nice patio, friendly staff. Iconic French cuisine.
Really lovely food and wine list. Reasonable price given quality. Would recommend.
Amazing restaurant. I took the classic menu. And it was well worth it. Starter was light, main was filling (though I would have preferred less fat bits on the porkand the dessert was beautiful and surprising.Waitress was super nice too!
Great food but service is slow on a Sat night bcoz the restaurant is quite full. Dinner starts at 7:30 till 10:30pm 😅On the pricey side, 64Euro/pax for a 3 course set dinner.
Very nice restaurant- serving traditional and local dishes. Attentive and good service as well. Great experience for the entire family.
Perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for and more. We came because Rick Stein sat in the cozy kitchen and opined about chicken, but he undersold it. Authentic country French cuisine, warm and inviting restaurant and staff, simple perfect menu, affordable quality wine list. Don’t miss the foie gras, the Charollis beef, the duck, the great app they serve with country pate and radish - it just works. Special place and food obsessed sorts like me will return again and again.
Amazing food, fantastic service. Plan to make a reservation, because it fills up fast!
I agree with others that for a uniquely local, no frills experience, come here. Very friendly staff. After a complimentary starter of seasonal vegetables and a pork pate, we ordered duck carpaccio and the baby squid (very tender and garlicky and yummy!). Had the wines recommended by staff (they have a daily and a weekly choice of wine), and they were a great match for our food. Continued with the lamprey, to get that local flavor - if youre wondering, some parts tasted, no kidding, like roast beef, and others like grilled eel (unagi)! A nice romantic wrap-up to our trip, with the added benefit that there is not as much foot traffic on this restaurants corner as in some places! OH and the dessert! Walnut ice cream with walnut liquor poured over it, and a chocolate cake. Mmm.
We had an amazing time at La Tupina, great food, perfect service, delicious food, wine and champagne. Valet parking with made out life much easier. Definitely recommend.
Very nice traditional restaurant with large selection of wines and cognacs. Food is very good, being vegetarian I only had a very limited selection but what I eat was really delicious
I wish I could come back again ! Traditional french cuisine in a charming atmosphere. For a reasonable price with a dedicated service.
Wonderful meal. Reserve ahead of time and try and sit so you can watch the food being cooked on the fire. The beef was delicious, as was the chicken. Decent size portions, and reasonable priced for the quality.
Excellent place for a traditional Bordelaise dinner, but you have to plan it in advance because this is a hidden gem.You enter and you feel already the smell of the meat grilled on the fire. We had a cote de boeuf (1.2kgand a duck cassoulet, both of them were fantastic!Nice, helpful and friendly service, could speak great in English. The restaurant was a bit pricey but definitely worth the visit. Go for it!
You cannot miss this restaurant. You will enter and get already an idea of what you will get: real local food. There is an open fire with grill just in front of you; and meat. We went for a cassolette and a 1.2 kg of cote de boeuf, saigmant. Fantastic. Canele as dessert. Nice atmosphere, attentive service. A pleasure. Expensive? For sure not a cheap place but for the quality you will recieve, it is the right price.
First night in Bordeaux and we had booked at La Tupina. We had a balcony table which was fab. All courses were very good and quite large sized. The wine was nice. It’s not cheap but we were on holidays. No complains
A nice restaurant with delicious dishes . Good ambience and excellent service!
Date/tims of my visit Oct 10th at 9.30 pm.- FoodI ordered the chicken. It seems it was cooked from a frozen or not from a fresh ingredient. Note tasty and + it should not cost 25 euro then. Picture is attached.- Cleanliness. It was clean inside and in toilets.- ServiceI was waiting 20 mins to place an order and 25 min to get it.
The food was really good, the staff a little entitled? Just doing some small talk I mentioned that I was happy my hotel room had AC (it was 40°C and I was absolutely meltingand the waiter replied with "you know this is bad for the environment!"... Yeah, you dont know me.. and my upbringing taught me to not say things unless you have something nice to say to people, so... Why shame me for a good nights sleep with my AC instead of blaming real big corporations for oil spills and chemicals in our air... Like really? Im just a small person trying to have a good time in such hard times for all of us! Trying to stay sane! I really didnt need that. But food and wine recommendations were great regardless.
I had the duck neck blood pancake which was delicious, and something I hadnt tried before. Waitress was lovely!
Ancient and traditional ... French, we liked everything and they spoiled us until the end of the dinner.Very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is at the gates of the historic center, rich of atmosphere, a really good experiense.
Excellent food, mushroom starter was amazing, steak cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. Wine list was substantial with a range of prices. Highly recommend La Tupina, brilliant experience with our family.
Quite an unassuming restaurant this find was. Not located in the historic Central Bordeaux that tourists like myself will likely be billeted, it is accessible by tram with a 4-5 minute walk to this place.I actually got lost being unfamiliar with the neighborhood. Luckily, two ladies seated while chatting near a church yard guided me and even said, that this restaurant was a good choice. This place was packed when i came in. I was just very lucky to have gone through the extra mile and a table was available for me.Yes. The duck fat fried potato chips were heavenly yet sinful and i prayed that i wake up in the morning smiling. 😁English speaking crew helped me find one last vacant table for the evening. Thank you, Chef Frank for indulging me with my words of appreciation for a fine dinner.I took Uber on my way back to the hotel. As this neighborhood is likely occupied by locals which i found rather too dark for my personal comfort.
Nice atmosphere, good food, friendly service. A must if youre in Bordeaux.
I brought my wife to La Tupina last year for our wedding anniversary. The best restaurant in Bordeaux, and perhaps in France.
Great place making some wholesome food which will make you feel right at home. They use traditional cooking methods which really brings out some amazing flavor to the dish. Highly recommended.
A pleasure as always to visit, friendly English speaking staff. If no tables outside just as lovely tables inside to enjoy. A well rounded wine list, with all bases and bottle sizes covered. Sit back, enjoy the smell from the open fire cooking the duck fat chips and enjoy a lovely meal. As ever head early to get a outside table or try your luck by ringing ahead.
Poorly cooked chicken and cheating staff.Came at lunch hours and set the plan for the lunch offering that looked good and was affordable. The sign at the door sayied lunch menu for 10e, the offering in the menu was 18e. Still a pretty good offer for a 3 set lunch menue.Quickly they put bread and paté on the table and wanted to serve water. We was howver declined to order the lunch after the water offering and the bread serving.... After some consider actions we decided to go for one serving of chicken and a duck breast. We could swap the French fries to a pan of fried veggie. We ordered a Rose wine from Bordeaux, the water came back with a different Rose wine and tried to serve without telling us. She moved from their mid price to their high price without a blink. After some discussion we got the high range for same price as the mid. And it was a good Rose wine. The duck came, a breast on a plate with some sauce. Not more not less, not even worthy of a photo. Taste was ok and it was cooked medium according to my request. The chicken was however worse, it looked good and was served with a sauce soaked bread. It was poorly cooked but too and just enough so it was eatable. However it must have been a hen. It was not close to tender and the consistence was so so. Flavor was not not bad not good. The pan of veggie was the saviour, good mix and with nice protein. When the table next to us was about to pay they had to object, and we were at this time playing attention to every detail and got a proper receipt at time for pay. In all not a place to return to, no relaxing since you have to be at your toes for every move
BEWARE! I have never given a bad review before, but this is the first. We were served a set lunch menu until our main course which turned into something terrifying. The pork was served RAW!The chef and staff were very unapologetic and kept saying it was ham that was still pink! The chef even tried to embarrassed us by bring raw meat and ham to show us how to make cordon bleu. But it was not ham, it was the meat that wrapped the ham see picture attached! (Apparently google does not allow people to post raw meat, even google algorithm agreed it was a raw and UNCOOKED meatLong story short, they were unfriendly and really they DO NOT care about their customers. And we said when we took picture of the raw meat and they were finally afraid since we can sue them for this. We ended up asking for a bill without finishing our course meals. Because we were disgusted on how we were treated, especially the chef for trying to make us stupid in front of other guests. Very dissapointing to end my trip in Bordeaux like this with a raw meat and yes we do know how ham and raw meat and cordon bleu should look like!
We chose this restaurant for our first dinner in Bordeaux as we read great reviews, and it was totally worth it. The food is delicious, the service is great and its a wonderful restaurant. The octopus salad starter and the poached cod main were both highlights.
First entering into the restaurant is a good experience with the meat on an old fashion grill with wood burning in the background. The service was a little lacking and we got charged for service without knowing (credit card got round up by 7 euros). My goose was decent. My friend’s duck was too raw and bloody even though she asked for medium, not medium rare.
Great food, ambience, and service. Menus in English are available for non-French speakers. Weve been here multiple times and always have loved everything we ordered!
As a massive foodie having sampled the finest restaurants in France, for me....this place sums up the roots of French cuisine. Rustic but seriously 1st class produce cooked simply to leave you wanting more, regardless of your appetite.I left with a huge smile and waistline to match.Big thanks to our friendly waiter who paired our wine to perfection. Very Impressed and certainly in my top 10 of all time reastaurants.
Absolute perfection. Greeted with crusty bread and pate to start and then we ordered the chicken, duck and chateaubriand which were all amazing. The side of vegetables and goose fat fries are also very good. We made room for a chocolate cake to share (which was very well receivedalong with an espresso. The bill was less than expected. For good french food in a lovely setting this is worth every penny.
Fantastic lunch. From the moment you walk in and see the countertop layer out with all the meat, pâté, butter, bread, etc. with the most spectacular smell of wood and peat coming off the fire. The food is amazing and served perfectly. I would recommend the scallops and mussels starter, but they are famous for their foie gras. Beef is beautiful and the wine choice was wonderful. Will go back again and again
Fabulous. Amazing food cooked on an open fire. Proper authentic old school french style family restaurant.Brilliant menu, wines, and Cognac. Friendly knowledgable staff. If you are in town, you should go here..
This is a religious stop on any foodies quest for gastronomical enlightenment! Ever since Rick Stein introduced the world to the majestic cuisine housed in La Tupina, people have been flocking here. So book early to avoid disappointment. Once inside, the experience is just theatre, from the rustic oven with preserved produce and gorgeous cuts of meat layed out to ensure youre salivating before even looking at the menu. And well, the food is just epic, and certainly worth the hassle of buying an air ticket, getting a visa, staying in a decent hotel and spending a small fortune in this quaint establishment in an alley in Bordeaux! As Nike says - Just Do It! And tick this one off your bucket list.
A lovely local French dining experience with delicious food and great service. It definitely does have a cosy farmhouse feel which I loved. I enjoyed the roast chicken (so much so I couldn’t wait to start and have no photoand my partner had the lamb - both were délicieux! Wine menu was also amazing, as was the desert (pictured). Thoroughly recommend.
We came for lunch and sat outside. Every dish was great. We ordered the lamprey, octopus, duck, and the a la tupina pasta.
Wow! This place is amazing. Best Foie Gras Ive ever had. Great wines and the rest of the food is fantastic. Super friendly service.
A little over-rated for food though given Ive only been once. Tough veal but very welcoming service which keeps it on the return list.
Credit to Paul Mcdonald of Bastion Kinsale, who suggested we try La Tupina.I found the setting authentic and rustic. One criticism would be the layout of the tables. Somewhat crammed and a little too intimate. The service was exemplary albeit slow at times, understandably so with a full house.Menu was as expected, classic French cuisine. Wine list was extensive and of great value. The Duck and fillet of Beef accompanied with Goose fat fries were sublime and the portions immense.Worth including on any itinerary in Bordeaux. Reservations would be recommended as it was a full house during our visit on a Wednesday evening.
A relaxed atmosphere and good food cooked on an open wood fuelled fire makes this a really enjoyable place to spend an evening. While it is true that the food is not out of this world, that isnt really the point for me about this restaurant, its very traditional home cooked food with a great atmosphere. The service was good and the wine recommendation excellent. My main criticism is the price - it isnt cheep and you can get better steak in London for less. Still we had a great evening laughing away and watching the fire so Im not feeling too upset.
