Shang Hai in Sussex County
Privilege
Best fried rice
Staple Milford restaurant! Been here since I was a kid!
Definitely a pearl. A must visit when you are down. Reservations strongly recommended.
MoreIt was ok for lunch. Friendly service. But the search for good Chinese food in Sussex County continues.
MoreHoy and his brothers have always been very friendly and hospitable! I love the atmosphere at Shang Hai! 😁
MoreLove their sweet and sour chicken and sauce!
Im still sick from my meal at Shanghai!! The egg drop soup was thick and terrible. It had the texture of pudding.... do not eat here!! It will be a waste of your money!!#Facts!!
MoreThe place was empty but the food as good as I remembered!
This was by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The best thing on the menu was the water. I ordered the I ordered no yeah I ordered the sesame beef and I could not tell that it was beef actually it came with broccoli which was good good I enjoyed the broccoli more than I enjoyed the whole meal. The egg full young was burnt Bert nasty unattractive unattractive and the shrimp fried rice that we ordered the rice was day old or 2. If you pass shanghai Chinese restaurant in Milford and youre hungry please keep going.
MoreDoor is open and unlocked but they are closed 🤔 well at least the owners are drunk with their patrons
MoreOrdered from here yesterday. Subpar. General’s chicken mushy, lo mein was made with ramen noodles and wasn’t good. Chicken and broccoli was over cooked and chicken was dry. If you’re in the Milford area, go to China Taste near the Redner’s. Much better.
MoreOnly 1 person taking orders and it looked like there was only 1 cook. Food was ok at best I have had worse. I ordered lomein and received Ramen noodles not homemade noodles so disappointing. Due to closures and just trying to get people to work must be hard might be willing to try again when in full swing.
Moreamazing staff, great drinks, small but great, you will not be disappointed if you like authentic Chinese food
MoreService was friendly. Food was awful. My coworker and I both threw our general tsos away after a few bites. The duck sauce packet was inflated, which usually indicates its way past expiration and bacteria has grown.
MoreMy wifes loves their chicken egg foo young.. their chicken wings are amazing
The meals are fantastic and the crew is very friendly and cooperative. always when we visit this place we pass a delightful evening. highly recommended.
MorePrice was good. Its pretty much the best sitdown chinese place around milford. Owner is nice and involved.
MoreMy first experience with Shang Hai was back in 2002. It wss so bad I swore never to return. With this pandemic ordering out has been a challenge to say the least. So after reading the great reviews and by word of mouth I hesitantly tried them again. I was surprised to say the least! Ordering by the phone was easy, my food was ready when I arrived, customer service was great, being called by name made me feel like they cared, the price was competitive, my food was hot, complete and tasty. It has been the best take out experience we have had since March 16th. Shang Hai has found a "new" returning customer.
MoreNot your typical shopping plaza Chinese joint. Heavy on veggies, flavor lasts, and the portions are heavy. I recommend this place over any other Chinese food place in the area.
MoreWe used to love their pork fried rice, however everything else on the menu is just inedible. We spent $40 on 3 things of what was suppose to be pork fried rice and it was shrimp. Unfortunately I have a seafood sensitivity and just the smell made my stomach upset. But its okay, the rest of the family had 1 bite before gagging and throwing it in the trash. The worst thing here in my opinion is the sesame chicken. Its wet and soggy, if you can get past the texture it tastes like pure oil and grease. Its just vile. If you like pork fried rice and thats it, this is the place to go. However if you like any other type of chinese food, go to literally any other place in milford. They may be mediocre, but atleast you can eat it.
MoreIve been going here since I was a little girl favorite Chinese food ever egg rolls are amazing and no other place uses red cabbage hate cabbage but love these and the egg foo young I dont get there often but when I can its still the best
MoreNastiest chinese food I have ever tasted. What a waste of money. Chinese food in Maryland and DC area is way better. Too bad for this area ☹️
MoreIve been reading all the reviews from over people that have ate here . And saw 2 or 3 that mentioned they felt sick and had the runs after eating here . Me and my girlfriend ate here a few days back for the first time and had the same issues she felt sick afterwards and I must of went to the bathroom 6 times in 2 hours. And didnt feel right after . This business should really be checked out by someone . There has to be something causing people to get sick
MoreThis is the nastiest Chinese food I’ve ever had. I was hungry. REALLY HUNGRY. and i couldn’t even force myself to eat this. I hate it here.
MoreOur meal had no flavor of chinese taste. Everything was bland. If ur on salt free diet and no spices. The dish was made well just no taste.
MorePlace is dated, but clean. The food is good, (not the same old Chinese fare takeout). The staff is friendly and they do their very best to please...
MoreBeen a repeat customer for years. Never had a bad experience. Delicious food, friendly staff, and comfortable atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.
MoreMediocre at best and, frankly, disappointing. I wouldn’t get the chicken chow mein. Extremely bland/flavorless. Cheese wontons were weird, not the typical way they are prepared. They weren’t horrible, but just not what you expect. Dumplings were a similar story. They used wonton dough for their dumplings, not your typical thicker dough on the steamed dumplings. All in all I would look for a better spot, this place is passable, but not great. I never leave reviews, but when my meal was 3 for 3 sub par I had to give everyone a heads up.
MoreBeef lo me in was amazing. Saucy. Tender beef cooked to perfectionHub got hoise chow mein...so much variety of meats and better veggies. No crispy noodles for top yet still fantastic. Egg rolls delicious and fresh. Crab Rangoon were average yet overall delicious. Staff was friendly and awesome.
MoreWe spent $33.00;last night as a take out,we would have been happier burning the money.of all the Asian restaurants this by far was the worse, yet we trusted the ratings which were not truthful...yuck
MoreAtmosphere and ambiance were great. The service was very good and overall the food was very good. The only issue the fried rice was premade so it wasnt as good as expected and the egg rolls had been previously frozen. But the entrees were great!
MoreTried this spot because wife works in Milford. Tried their take out for home. Meh, Chinese food at Chinese price. Brown rice not pork Ford rice.Meat cut in big pieces, flavor was great on the bright side! Tasted 7/10.Egg roll small, but guess I am spoiled by my Dover spot.*Is good tasting fair, but will stick W my guys.
MoreNice family run restaurant with tableservice a full bar and anything you want they will make. Always a hit with the family.
MoreMy wife and I just got home from there and before we even made it home we both felt sick and both had to run to the bathroom , diarrhea , not fun , at all . Nothing else but the food did it. People seemed nice but now we are sick , wasted $35
MoreLove this place. Old fashioned sitdown Chinese restaurant which are getting harder to find. Food and drinks are very good.
MoreBest Chinese in Southern Delaware. Yes, I said it. I moved here from a major city and struggled to find the perfect Chinese restaurant. Id passed Shang Hai a million times and never thought to give it a try, but I did and am so thankful for it... I wont get Chinese anywhere else now.
MoreCame here 3 months ago no one greeted us when one did we were stared down by people at the bar as if no one else belonged here..Its run down looks awful we didnt stay didnt eat got a weird vibe from everyone.Even though there was only 5..7.. people thats it..Like hey Im drinking and the other guy was sitting and reading a paper relaxing.. not a single customer..
MoreWhat upsets me the most is the potential this place has. Their chicken and broccoli is by far the best in the area but they arent consistent and really expensive. The only place that gives only 2 egg foo young patties for practically $10 and ramen noodles for Lo mien noodles. I was so disappointed.
MoreLove this place been eating there over 33 years. The Best Shrimp fried rice and Shrimp egg fo yong on the Shore!!
MoreThey made me a special vegetarian tofu dish and it was delicious! Really great price, too. When I went to pick it up, the person running things couldnt have been nicer or more friendly. Awesome joint!!
MoreLove the shrimp fried rice and their shrimp egg rolls. The drive thru is definitely a plus.
MoreI want to be cautious about this post, we visited this place for dinner, we had what I felt was good food for the main meal. But we also had soup and thats where I feel something was bad.We are a family of 4, and 3 of us ate the sweet and sour soup, the 4th one does not like it. Both of my boys shared the same main dish and my wife and I had different meals we didnt share. After that evening dinner only my youngest, who also eaten the soup only ate a slice of pizza (nobody ate anything else). Earlier that day we had only eaten at IHOP that early morning and felt excellent that whole day, and both of my kids ate the same breakfast plate together, again my wife and I had different dishes.I hate to say it, the people in this restaurant were nice...but clearly it was the sweet and sour soup eaten by me, my spouse, and my son that made us extremely sick, stomach problems, running for the john... it was a bad night and this morning.I think this restaurant needs to check into this at least, I feel that they are a good community place, the other meals were excellent, but we noticed the soup had small bits of pork, when most other Chinese food places dont put pork in their meal, and I enjoy pork but maybe thats the culprit, bad pork.
MoreThe restaurant owner and the staff is very friendly, comforting and prices are very reasonable. Always very clean. The menu has variety of options to choose from, the waiter Alex helped out to pick food for us.
MoreAs a person that has worked in similar types of establishments, I seen a lot of American Chinese Restraunts, and most of them are pretty good, some of them not so much. This one is pretty good, they dont have pork egg rolls compared to others, but their fried rice is pretty good. Judging from other comments, it is a hit or miss for this one. I liked it , but not everyone is me.
MoreI have to say, I was really excited to try this place. I have just moved to the area and have been trying to find a new place to fill my chinese food cravings. When I arrived, they werent open yet even though the door said 11Am and it was around 11:15Am. Finally the owner showed up welcomed us in. I could overlook this as I understand they are only human and who knows what was going on. Anyways, I finally was able to order. The customer service was actually really great, very friendly and warm. After about 25 minutes, my food was finally ready. I noticed that it seemed kind of light for the amount of food I order but figured it was just my hunger getting the best of me. When I eventually got home and started digging in all the excitement I had quickly fell flat. The food was cooked appropriately but it was extremely bland. I had ordered the curry beef and although they warned it was spicy on the menu, I could barely taste anything other than the beef. Not even that, it was just beef and onions. It definitely needed something added to it specially for the price paid for it. The same could be said for the bland fried rice.In conclusion, the customer service is great, the food is cooked well but they definitely need to rethink their recipes as the food is bland and a little lack luster for the cost.
MoreFamily owned, friendly atmosphere, good food. Any place that is always full of "regulars"has got something good going on.
MoreThis used to be the place for Chinese back in the day. Now customers seem scarce and its never busy. I see why. Twice I ordered take-out and it was barely warm when I arrived home 10 minutes later. Plus, no plastic silverware, napkins and the packets of duck and soy sauce were leaking all over bag. I had better experiences at fast food joints.
MoreThe worse food I have ever had!!! My brother-in-law brought food there on 1/31/15 for our dinner, the spring rolls were so bad and tasted of old cooking oil. So bad that I could not eat. Everything else was just as bad. I WILL NEVER....EAT ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN!!!!If you want good Chinese food in Milford, go to the China Wok :)
MoreBest Chinese food in Delaware. Have tried other local Chinese restaurants. They do not compare. Try the WonTon soup.
MoreI WILL NEVER get food from this place again...The rice is brown and looks like slop...they use greasy thigh meat instead of premium chicken. ALL in ALL...JUST DISGUSTING...Stay away and goto "China Wok" if you are in the Milford Area.
