We were all very happy with our meals.....portions were huge...
It was 5 pm and out of 2 specials and my choice for the stuffed chicken breast. I opted for the broasted 1/2 chicken dinner and it was terrible! The chicken was over broasted, stuffing like mush, corn was old and tuff!My grandsons love apple sauce and could not eat the warm lumpy sauce served them. It was terrible.I donβt understand wanting home made food and getting seasoned fries!Grandsons chicken strips and Mac and cheese were dry!It had been a few years since Iβd last ate here and it was not the same and Iβll not visit againπ¬
Good, huge portions, and friendly service. You want a table get there early!
Extremely friendly and attentive. The fried chicken was very good, crispy and well cooked without being greasy. A lot of the other food was rather salty and bland. Overlall, service was great and Im glad we visited. Its also a gorgeous building.
Food is always delicious and great service! I had fried clams with the best coleslaw and Amish dressing, I visit every year I come home to spend time with family.
Amazing homemade food! I ordered the beef tips and noodles special and it was delicious. The beef was so tender and the mashed potatoes and gravy were outstanding! The peanut butter pie for dessert was the best Ive ever had. Great atmosphere and great service. I cant wait to go back and try something else.
Love sugar and spice. Great local business with a lot of rich history. Food is amazing here, my favorite dish is their sirloin steak dinner. Best steak Ive ever eaten every time, better than any steak house, its worth getting.
Best liver and onions. Love all the food
Friendly, welcoming, adorable with great food. Treat yourself soon.
Amazing food and good, historic atmosphere. The portions are very large so be prepared!
The worst meals we have ever had here . Waitress treated us as if we were invisible. Rolls we asked for twice , hard and cold . Meatloaf , two cubes of whatever that was stacked on top of each other , none of the gravy we asked for . It looked like dog food !Chicken , so dry , it was hard to swallow . Never filled our drinks , never checked on us and never brought the bill .There is No Amish cooking here !
Relaxing and home-like atmosphere, great service and delicious food!

Always delicious, staff is friendly, and the prices are great,
Wow the food and service always awesome β€
Oh my, the serving sizes are enormous!
You get a lot of good food for a good price. We really liked the comfortable, homey atmosphere and the staff were very nice.
My favorite restaurant, hands down! Everything is wonderful, down to the homemade pies! For exceptional quality, quantity and service, Sugar n Spice is the best!
Sugar n spice, food was delicious there, coleslaw was different, honey mustard one of the best I taste. Good size dishes and affordable.
You will never grow hungry here!! Large portions, and they tasted great!π
Had last seating of the night for mothers day. But the food was great. Service was awesome. Could not have been happier
We always have a good experience when we go there. Excellent food!
Food was good as always. Noticed on receipt I was charged an extra dollar for my salad as a side which I was not told about. Then was charged for using my debit card which again I was not told about. I would not have objected to either charge but would have liked to be told about them before hand.
Great home cookinSpecials are a good deal and delicious. Dont forget to take home some coleslaw and pie!! Best ever
Very lovely building felt like stepping back in time. Think they were short staffed because the wait time was terrible. Prob 45 minutes to get food which is acceptable but when we asked for something it was another 15 minutes. Chicken dishes were good but everything was lukewarm @ best. Amish dressing was soggy. We wanted to pay and leave but nobody around to give us our bill
The staff is extremely nice, the food is in large portions, pricing is good, and its tucked away in a nice area south of Erie Pennsylvania
Our server was very efficient and attentive! Food was wonderful and more than generous portions for the $! Highly recommend! Dont forget to look, and maybe purchase, various items(homemade pies, salads, local crafts, candles, etcfor sale in the front rooms. Wonderful dining experience in an historic venue!
Loved the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Comfort food at its finest!
Love love love the place been coming here for my birthday for the past 14 years and ever time is a great time and my man Mark never misses a beat ! Great food and portions are fanominal. If your a fish person Fridays this is the place too be !
Great restaurant in the Waterford area. This was our first visit and wont be our last. The food was fantastic. Loved the Amish Dressing! The wait staff was great and loved all the quilts and other items to look at while waiting for our food.Tom had the smothered chicken with mashed potatoes and dressing. I had the grilled chicken with dressing and noodles.
Great food,,,large portions,,,good service in a very interesting building,,,
We went in with a party of 9. We were told there was on table in front of us but they would have to wait to pull 2 tables together. Approximately 5 to 6 other groups were seated before us. My husband went to ask when we would be seated, the children in our group were starting to fall to asleep waiting. The hostess was rude. We finally got seated a hour and a half later. She took us to the table and toss menus down and said they were short on menus ( it was not a nice tone). We ordered our drinks. The waitress took forever to take our order. Finally got to order, it took another hour to get our food, people who were seated 20 minutes after us had their food, ate and left before we got ours. They were out of most things on the menu. The kids ordered the Mac and cheese (supposed to be homemadeit was boxed Mac and cheese. This is not a restaurant that we would want to go back to. Had we been told they would have difficulty seating us, we would have thanked them and went elsewhere.
If youre a foodie looking for exotic dishes loaded with kale, strange grains and elaborate presentations, this restaurant is not for you. If you, however are looking for comfort food. well prepared at a reasonable price topped off by superb deserts, Sugar n spice should be on your list.I spent a number of years traveling in Amish country in Ohio. The typical Amish restaurant in that area is now the size of the average Walmart.Sugar n spice is what it used to be many decades ago. Located in a historic building, and decorated in an eclectic fashion, the emphasis is on the food. While they do not advertise as Amish, they do offer some Amish dishes. Well worth your rime and money.
Food and service was excellent. However we didnt got there near the end of their service and so they ran out of some menu items. Keep that in mind if you plan to come. I would recomend it. There was plenty of food and the prices were very fair for what you got I think. Really cool atmosphere as it is in an old hotel built in the early 1800s I think.
Our server Mark was excellent and the food was too. He thought of little things to help us with our meals as well as good suggestions for dessert. The broasted chicken was excellent as was the Apple pie π₯§
Took my daughter out to lunch..Great experience at Sugar n spice today. Waitress was excellent, very helpful, the food was delicious as usual. Everyone there was so friendly. Thank you for a nice afternoon.
Delicious food, excellent portions, great pricing!!! Family loves to eat here. Quite busy usually so expect to wait for a few minutes during dinner time, but wait times are well in line with any extremally popular dining establishment!
We ( my familyabsolutely love the food! As of recently the portions are not as big. That is kind of sad .The soups are delicious. All the pies are so good and made from scratch. Its a wonderful place for a home cooked meal when you want to take a break from cooking dinner at home.
Great place . The food tastes like mom and grandma makes.
This is a very cozy place in a Historical Building (1829? in Waterford,PA. The dining rooms are decorated with quilts and other homespun items. The food was excellent and homemade. The portions are huge and the price is right. The staff is cordial and helpful. If you want a relaxing environment and ,homemade and reasonably priced food this is your place. I cant wait to return.!
Great down home cooking at reasonable prices. Always excellent service. Servings are huge and always delicious!
What a great place to sit and relax over a homemade meal with friends and family. Service can be delayed at times but well worth the wait. Friday fish is my favorite! The portions are over sized so share a meal or take it home. The food is delicious, the dining rooms are clean, well lit, and plenty of space for long legs and elbows. Check out the deserts, they are yummy good. I eat here a couple times a year and I have never had a bad meal. Great place!
Amish made food and plenty of it. Delicious and nice people. No reservations needed unless it is 6 people or more.
Friendly service with so many smiles. We went in a large group on a Saturday evening. Everything was perfect. ! Saying portions are huge is and understatement at the least. Golden fried chicken was amazing! Meatloaf was so hearty, my son said the french dip was the best he ever had, prime rib was like butter. The french fries were crispy and so full of flavor. Spaghetti is enough for a few stomachs not to mention the garlic toast is huge too! Good luck thinking of dessert..maybe to go. But so worth all of it. Check it out
Really good! Some of the best lasagna Ive ever had! My wife loves the chicken and biscuits. Dont think weve ever gone on a different day than Wednesday. Thats when the aforementioned dishes on special.
Our first visit and definitely not our last. This old hotel stands tall and is easily visible from the road. It is a testament of the "good old times." You are amazed from the moment you step inside. The interior is impressive, decorated to impress. The hostess as well as the servers were super friendly and made us feel at home right away. Thanks Cherry for all the great info you provided about your town and nearby attractions. We were already impressed before the food arrived - we were over the moon when we saw the menu and could sample the our order. The bean and ham soup was almost a meal on its own. My husband isnt shy to eat, but he had to take half his burger home. The fries were hot, crispy and quite tasty. Prices are quite reasonable. Spent $ 27 (tip and tax includedfor 2 lunches and coffee. The front steps are a bit steep, but there is a wheelchair ramp on the side of the building. There is a large, free parking behind the building. There are nice, clean bathrooms. The old building features are well maintained and there are lots of decorations to look at. Take your time and enjoy.
I found myself feeling nostalgic while sitting at my little spot and remembering eating lunch at my Grandmas house out on the farm. Thats the type of atmosphere I felt while eating here. The waitress was very nice Rand the food was like eating right out of Grandmas kitchen. I could almost smell the baked chocolate chips in the oven. I highly recommended Sugar N Spice.
I have eaten here many times. I highly recommend this restaurant! If you have not had the pleasure of eating here yet, come on out. Everything I have ever ordered is fantastic! I love the roast turkey dinner and though I am not a big beef eater, their prime rib is fabulous! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and a great price... I couldnt ask for anything more. Except for a big piece of that peanut butter pie! Yum!
