The food is exceptional. I’ve been twice now and by far this place has one of the best gyozas I’ve ever had and I’m from Japan!!! Great balanced menu that’s affordable and not pretentious. You do have to plan ahead and book but I can appreciate that as the restaurant is in a seasonal rural town. What a hidden gem in Jindabyne!
The staff were super friendly and welcoming. Miso ramen lacked flavour and had two minute noodle style noodles in it. I was thinking it would have some nice soba buckwheat noodles. Super bland!!As for the miso egg plant dish, the eggplant was literally 4 tiny slithers. Again I was at least expecting maybe half an eggplant… if you look at the plate for size it is a bread plateAnd the miso soup was scalding hot! It burnt the roof of my mouth. No warning it was piping hot. I won’t be going back!
Delicious authentic Japanese in the centre of Jindabyne. Make sure you book early or consider a walk in for small numbers as they have seats at the bar.We had pork gyoza (juicy and tasty), miso eggplant, chicken yakatori, Takaki beef (melt in the mout!h), cabbage salad (wafu dressingcompleted with a matcha cheese cake. All dishes were amazing, staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
We had dinner on Friday night. Great atmosphere, lovely food (You cant resist JFC!), drinks are very reasonable and the staff are just lovely! Cant wait to come back!We went to Takayama on Thursday night for Ramen at the bar. We had the salmon sashimi, which just melted in your mouth and the chicken ramen with egg and chili oil. The flavours and ingredients are amazing. The atmosphere was electric, the staff are friendly and efficient. Also, so nice to see a restaurant full after the past few years. 5 Stars.
Absolute joke - kids win nationals and medal ceremony runs late. Try call restaurant for over 30mins no answer. Arrive 20min late and even though our table is still available it apparently will put pressure on the kitchen. Just beggars belief! Totally allergic to making money or customer service
Really wanted to love this restaurant! I came a few years ago and liked it (I think?!). This time myself and a few friends got vegetarian ramen and it was really tasteless and sad. I thought it was just me but looked up to see their sad faces after the first mouthful. I always finish my food and I couldnt finish it. Miso eggplant was good, not great. Karaage tofu was also nice, and glad we ordered to substantiate our meal. We waited 1hr 15mins for food as well.Meat eaters liked their JFC but said Ramen was average. If you like authentic Japanese, unfortunately this isnt it.
Great experience. The food was fresh, tasty and come out relatively quick. Staff were very friendly and prices were reasonable.
Delicious food with clearly marked vegan options on a specific menu (just ask the staff). Staff were super friendly, efficient service and amazing food. We’ve already booked in again for when we’re next in Jindabyne.
Without a doubt the best Restaurant in Jindabyne. Customer service is impeccable even in the busiest evenings. Food is always absolute top notch!!! If you dont check it out your missing out!!
We really loved it our waitress was excellent. Two very slight critiques. We felt the miso was too strong in flavour and eggplant was undercooked
Went to celebrate 50th Birthday dinner and drinks. Excellent food, Great service by waiter staff but poor service by supervisor and bar staff :-(
Decent Japanese food, sushi and JFC were great, Miso was great but a little too strong over time for me. Pork katsu curry was okay, a bit overcooked and dry, curry sauce couldve been cut down a little and increased the amount, the rice was top notch, very close to being really good. Very accommodating staff with making mocktails. A little noisy but the place was full up so understandable, good to have the music low so conversion was easy, the owner? was super friendly and got us in at the bar which was awesome. Would go back, worth a visit, make a reservation as they are very popular!
Booked in advance. Confirmed in advance. Email exchanges confirming booking, Turned up to booked time and they told me my booked was cancelled at 12:45am that morning. Offered not alternative booking. Ruined evening and assumed I would cancel at this time in the morning. Very smug sorry they can’t do anything, how can they be fully booked. Leaving two young kids and a family starving.
Best place to eat in Jindy in my opinion. Fabulous, fresh and flavoursome food. Service was attentive and friendly. We were a table of 7 and everyone agreed it was great. 100% recommend.
Honestly the best food in Jindy. We were blown away at the quality of the food and service. The trout sushi roll was awesome and I didn’t want the gyoza to stop 🤤
Fantastic and attentive service, food and drinks were delicious. Highlights were the Lychee Martini, Scallops and Gyoza. The cucumber salad was also a recommended side but our waitress and she hit the mark.
Cocktails were fantastic, food was delicious! So great to treat ourselves after a day on the Mountain! We will be back!
Nice Resto Bar! Good ambience.
Had a great birthday dinner at this restaurant. Food is great, everything we ordered were delicious. Pork katsu curry, salmon sashimi, beef tataki and the pork gyoza were amazing. On top of it, the manager was just amazing, such a good man. Staff are polite too.
We were impressed by each small plate (entrées). The chef definitely put in the craft to create the recipes. You cannot find these dishes in regular Japanese restaurants.
Heard good things and booked in advance - glad I did as it was packed with happy dinners! Great menu for both food and beverage, food was sensational (Ramen perfect after a day on the cold windy ski runsand the friendly service first rate. Highly recommend and will definitely return the next time we’re in Jindabyne.
Absolutely outstanding, as always. I took my three children, all young adults, for dinner and they loved it just as much. Service was impeccable and cant wait to go back. My personal favourites: Yama Balls, Pork Gyoza, Salmon and Katsu Chicken. If Pork Gyoza was a politician, it should be the Prime Minister.
Absolutely atrocious food, waited nearly an hour for mostly pre-made food. The katsu was way overcooked and tougher than a shoe. Probably cheaper and more enjoyable if you bought a pair and ate them instead.
Dont expect too much if you are based in Sydney and tried all Japanese cuisines in Sydney.Katsu pork rice is ok. The miso soup ramen is little bit too salty. Dont bother to substitute tofu with pork as only 3 small pieces of pork added. Salmon sashimi is very thin. For salmon rolls, sushi hub do a better job. If too bored of western food in Jindabyne, may worth a try.
Dont think this is a Japanese restaurant. If you think so, you may be disappointed. Its a good restaurant in this town.
Restaurant owner (or managerwas being passive aggressive after we gave him honest feedback(he and his employee actually asked for our feedback, twiceVery horrific dining experience...Took them 1 hour and 20 mins to cook raman and ramen soup was tasteless. He said to us "you dont need to pay. Please Do not come back“ Very rude and arrogant. Do not recommend to dine in here. I feel bad for the employees there they have to put up with the manager/owner
Amazing service and food! Every time we are down in Jindy we make a booking and take all of our friends. We really feel a part of the Takayama family. Thank you and see you again in a few weeks.
From the minute we walked in we felt very welcomed. Even more so because we had our 3 and 7 year old with us and I was really concerned that we might be treated differently. But my children were treated just as equally to all the other patrons. The food was fresh and tasted amazing (even my 2 picky eaters couldnt get enough). It was the perfect way to end our long awaited family holiday.
Absolutely fantastic!!! Rohan was our waiter and he was amazing!!! Everything that you could possibly want from fantastic customer service with a smile. The food was to die for!!! 10/10 perfect!
booking essential! perfect chicken katsu. yummy chargrilled salmon suffered from Tasmanian salmon shortage
Amazing food, sublime cocktails and lovely wait staff who were so attentive and friendly. They were genuinely committed to ensuring our experience was a positive one.
Good food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Not the most authentic Japanese food I have ever had but tasty. The ramen was excellent.
Last time we came to Jindy this place was on their annual hols, so super pleased we could eat here this time. Food was amazing, some nice twists with local produce like the local smoked trout nori rolls. Their miso soup is really good too, made with a red miso broth and enoki mushrooms. Easy online booking system - definitely a must as they are really busy. Friendly staff. Cute location too, round the back of the shopping centre or you can access it via the wooden stairs that go up to the pub near Woolies.
Fantastic service! The staff were friendly and efficient. My daughter is a Coeliac and they were very accommodating to a gluten free diet. The food was delicious. We will definitely go back next time we are in Jindabyne.
Fantastic restaurant! Friendly service and delicious food. Highly recommend getting a selection of small plates and sharing as they were all great. Make sure you treat yourself to a cocktail while you’re there!
The best Ramen noodles I ve had so far! Even in Sydney it was hard to find one this good. They make their own miso cordial and, except the fact that there was corn in it, it was truly amazing and authentic.Great host and good beer! Cheers
Quality Japanese food with quick and friendly service.
We were visiting the area for the weekend and booked at Takayama after reading good reviews online. We are a family of four and arrived a little early for our booking, but were warmly welcomed in. We ordered a number of dishes to share and all were delicious. The kids loved the cucumber sushi, JFC and shoestring fries. My husband and I loved it all. Supporo on tap was great too. Service was friendly and helpful but not overbearing. A great experience.
What a beautiful and tasty dinner we had at Takayama! From the entré to the dessert it was just 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾. If you are in town don’t miss out and make the booking in front.
This was our second visit in 3 days.Again it didn’t disappoint with fantastic service by the friendly staff. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The wines by the glass and Sapporo beer on tap were also very reasonable.Highly recommend
The ramen has nothing in common with ramen - its more of a simple miso soup. Chicken dishes were great. We also ordered a salad and all dishes came together (what was the point?). The staff is great and friendly.
My experience at Takayama has been disappointing. Although service was fantastic and friendly, we had to wait over an hour for our mains after our entrees. Most dishes were either hit or miss, as our Miso Soup was nothing like anything traditional and salad underwhelming lacking levels of flavour. Our chicken dishes were all fantastic though. Atmosphere was also slightly off with all blinds closed.
Fantastic food & service. Ample mai portions, fabulous cocktails also... couldnt fault! Will be back on our next trip.
Everything about Takayama made for a fantastic experience. Walking past and seeing that they were very busy we thought we would try our luck and see if they could squeeze us in, and fortunately there was room to be seated at the bar.The service all night was second to none. The staff were all friendly and helpful, in particular the manager who despite being run off his feet was making time to chat with patrons making all feel welcomed. The food was on point and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. It’s hard to choose a standout dish as everything was so good, but I would definitely recommend the JFC with wasabi mayo.
The service was lovely! Got a booking with short notice also. The food was good. We had katsu Curry and the ramen. The ramen seasoning was a bit low. Need the salty taste but for a aussie Japanese restaurant great work.
If youre in jindabyne this restaurant is a must. Great food and friendly staff. Does have a bar atmosphere.
I really wanted to like this place. From the time we booked yesterday I got the sense that the owner has put a lot of care and attention into making this restaurant work. And it was *almost* a five star experience. Every dish was packed with flavour and the portions were super generous. Expansive and reasonably priced drinks menu. But delays and a number of minor service mishaps (order screw-up and our dishes twice going to another tableremoved some of the shine from an otherwise brilliant dining experience. Probably the best food weve had in Jindy. That pork katsu curry is a must. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The service was friendly and attentive. The setting was a consistent Japanese theme with matching wooden tables chairs and artwork. The food was fresh, flavoursome, and appealing. It was a great night and if Im in the area Ill definitely call in. Just make sure you book in early. You have to book ahead because of limited space. Check out their Facebook page for details.
Cosy and welcoming, great food (the trout sushi roll is fantasticand drinks. You can sit at a table or at the bar. Will definitely be back.
Busy Sunday. From arrival it was 45 minutes until our food arrived for our table of 2. Rooms was very smokey. Yes it happens in Japan but we couldnt leave our coats outside. Our shared squid was quite good with a spicy sauce. Ramen wasnt sensational but was bad either. Id have both again.Easy parking. Nice selection of drinks. Light meal. No drinks. $50 for 2. Overall experience was OK +Bookings essential.
