One of the largest Monestries I have seen so far.... Good vibes and you get to see a lot of monks and kids who are frndly... There is a calm and divine feeling you get here.... Must visit place...! Please follow protocols though....
16th century monastery is biggest in Arunachal Pradesh. Historic importance. If you have visited Dirang Monastery, this can be avoided.
A peaceful place with lots of positive vibes. For me it holds a different value as this is where I got hold of the Army caption for the Bum La Pass permit. The best part there was no stamp however I was not ready to miss my chance to visit Bum La Pass. Lucky place with great view of Tawang.
The sacred Monastery in the sacred hills of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, Peaceful and colorful and every corner reverberates buddhism.
Lovely and nostalgic feeling visiting one of oldest and largest Monasteries . The surrounding is mystical , peaceful and very inviting for a long meditation session. Simply loved it.

It was amazing, must visit in Tawang.Checkout instagram Dhruv_explorer_clan
One of the largest monasteries in Asia, this is a brilliant place. The school of culture makes it a fascinating place. The giant Buddha statue inside the main building is quite special. What is unfortunate is the behaviour of the tourists who seemed nothing less than illiterate.
One of best monastery I have visited. Very calm and divine. The place is a small township and lot of Buddhist monks live there. The place has public amenities like health centre and Buddhist culture study centre, etc.
Largest monastery of India. It is visible from whole of the Tawang. The Lord Buddha sitting on the top of the hill keeps an eye on the town and always his blessings are with the town. Its a very organised and small town but the landscapes are just beautiful. You will always cherish your memories made here.Went here with my friends.Really enjoyed the trip. Its an awesome place.

One of the most beautiful monestry Ive ever been. Indias largest monestry and worlds second largest. The surrounding is very beautiful. The place is very peaceful and you can get the positive vibes while entering the premise. The Buddha statue is one the largest statues Ive ever seen. The main premise is so calm and peaceful. Ive been there while the prayers are going on and I literally got goosebumps by listening to the holy prayers chanting by the monks. One of the best places in Tawang and it should be visited to fell its positivity.
It is most beautiful and largest Buddhist monestry in India. It is Asias second largest. It is present in Arunachal Pradesh, India. Rental or shared taxis are available from Tezpur, Assam.About 2 Kms from the town is the Tawang Monastery. The Monastery is the second biggest and oldest in Asia and is known as the Tawang Ganden Namgyal Lhatse i.e., the celestial paradise of divine site chosen by the horse was founded by Merag Lodroe Gyamtso in the year 1680-81. The Dalai Lama gave him a painting of goddess Palden Lhamo to be kept in the monastery. The 8 m high glided statue of Lord Buddha dominates the sanctum. The great rotating prayer wheels, priceless thangkas, the drone of monks in prayer, sputtering butter lamps are an evocative vision. The Tawang Monastery has a residential building for the monks, a library, a museum and school for the basic education. Pierced atop a hill dominating everything around and below it is an enormous yellow-roofed Tawang monastery which was originally a large and fortified complex strategically sited where the caravan routes from Tibet, Bhutan and West Kameng met.
A very beautiful place, the most famous monastery after dharamsala. The view of the tawang town from this building is breathtaking. You will find peace inside the main temple where theres a big budha statue. And do visit the museum inside this monastery. Youll find a lot of old stuffs.
It is the largest monastery in India and worlds second largest..it has a lot of significant historical records..there is a museum also dont miss that...from the monastery u can witness the real mesmerising view of tawang city ..u can enter the main building and see the lord buddha ..the masters there are also very helpful ..
Supposedly the second largest monastery in the world. Many of the approach roads are closed because of some road works in progress.Very beautiful and gives you a sense of what monastery life is all about.Very colourful and makes you feel that we come from a different planet.
Tawang Monastery is the 2nd largest monastery in the world. First one I believe is Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. This beautiful monastery is made up of multiple small complexes which include schools, the main temple, prayer halls and monk quarters. The place has a very calm and serene vibe about it. Its a 3 story complex with around 65 residential buildings in it.There is also a museum within the complex (entry ticket of 10 Rswhich has photos of dignitaries visiting this holy complex. There are other artifacts on note as well including structures made of Dalda (frozen vegetable oiland a copy of the Boudanath Stupa from Nepal.
The largest monastery in India, this place is nestled safely on the mountains in Tawang. You will have to leave your vehicle at the parking spot, from where it is a ten minutes walk to the monastery. With cobbled stone streets and clouds everywhere around, the walk is very beautiful. The monastery is very quiet and peaceful, as is the case with most monasteries.
Overlooking Tawang a 3 tier monastery complex. Scenic Views afforded from the Monastery. Serene Calm Composed the Monastery exudes a quiet charm that can only come from the centuries of wisdom and knowledge that it houses
I visited this place in Feb 2018. This is the second biggest and oldest monestry in Asia. It is very peaceful and beautiful. It has meditation hall, mesuem, school for small kids who will be monks. We had great time interacting with kids. View of the monestry from far is amazing as it is situated non the hill.
I visited this place today and it is the most beautiful monastery I have ever been to. There is museum too which includes all the things which have been used from so long in Buddhism culture. Monastery is so clean and totally safe to visit it. Peacefull and you will feel alive after visiting this monastery. I really had a great time.
The oldest Monastery of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. The monastery has a very beautiful and unique architecture.I love this place πππ
The oldest Monastery of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.Extremely Beautiful and a complete religious place!Prayers done are wonderful. The entire place gives so much positive vibes. People here are very simple and down to earth. In the monastery you also have A Museum, A Library, A Centre for Buddhist Cultural Studies, Prayer Hall and much more.It was a wonderful experience to visit Tawang.Worth it of every money spent.
Tawang Monastery is the largest Buddhist monastery in India and the second largest in the world, making it the most important site of pilgrimage in India for Buddhists. Also known as Galden Namgey Lhatse which literally means celestial paradise in a clear sky, the beautiful monastery truly lives up to its name.It is perched on top of a mountain at a fearsome altitude of 10,000 ft, which gives a brilliant panoramic view of the entire Tawang River Valley, that is spread with lofty snow-capped mountains and lush green thickets of coniferous trees. The monastery belongs to the Gelug, also known as Yellow Hat, sect of Mahanaya Buddhism. It consists of a huge assembly hall, 65 residentials for monks and Lamas, a school and a Buddhist cultural studies centre on the whole, and can accomodate 450 monks at once. Walls of the monastery is beautifully decorated with colourful thangkas and curtains that have Buddhist symbols painted over them.Visit Tawang between March to August when the town faces a pleasantly cool climate. If you wish to witness snowfall, early winter season of October to December is the right time to enjoy the snow as well as be able to go on sightseeing.
This is the second largest monastery in Asia. This is probably the oldest monastery in India also, so it has thousands of story behind the foundation stones. Dalai Lama had stayed here for a long. This is a very clam & cool place with peace.
Vehicle can go upto the main entrance up the hill. Small free parking area at the top but adequate area at the bottom. Serene, calm ambience. Heavenly views from the cliff top. A museum is there but closed at the time of visit. Buddhist Study Centre is in the premises.
A very beautiful and peaceful Monastery. The interior is also very nice but divine lies in sitting there and enjoying the peace. I very good place to meditate and find inner peace. Interact with the Monks and the children under the monastery to know them and the functioning of the monastery.
A peaceful holy place with Buddhist ambience all around. Location where the monastery is situated is all beautiful. You get to experience the rituals along with going through the museum seeing all old Buddhist culture elements.Monastery is huge and have big Golden statue of Lord Buddha.Clearly among the top 10 Religious places Ive visited across India in my past 2 years of continues travel.
