Well maintained historical farm from the Civil War.
A beautiful place its sad of its horrible past
Absolutely beautiful! Hard to imagine the horror that unfolded here
A beautiful and historic barn on the Gettysburg Battlefield. I return often to paint this barn. Here is a view of it in the fall.
The site of a contentious battle fought here on July 2nd 1863. The Trostle farm was the site where General Dan Sickles lost his leg. The battle between Bigelow’s Union Artillery and the 21 st Mississippi was also on this site during the retreat from the Peach Orchard salient. Many photos were taken on this farm after the battle. The barn is also famous for the shell hole in the brick wall.
You can walk around the barn and see where the cannon ball went through the top of it. Very cool!
I loved seeing all the history here. Definitely go if youre in Gettysburg.
Loved it
Still privately owned and o e of the farms that was in the middle of the Battle at Gettysburg.
Very cool!!!!
History is everywhere!
My ancestors farm.
My Grandfather, Guy Trostle, told many stories about the battle here. Our family is quite proud of where our roots grew from.
Incredible place. Looking just south west you can see a witness tree, A huge old white oak that saw action between the two armies of North and South. Go and give it some friendly taps, Or a hug. It has earned it.
A great example of an early stick frame built farm house. Look for the artillery shell sticking out of the summer kitchen. You can see it from the road near the top
Love to Learn about the History !
Souch historic significance.
Amazing history. Right there !!!
This is a beautifully presentation. there is a blast hole in the gables of the barn. The vista is lovely from here but this was ground zero for much of the action. This was the spot if Gen Sickle and he was wounded here.
My girlfriends family built the house
Very interesting and well preserved place. Barn still has cannon ball hole in it from the Civil War. Adds character and looks great! Very historical landmark.
Part of the Gettysburg Trails of history. Museums & old cottages that still stand well after the war.Lots and lots of rich rich history...
