The Blue Heron in Cerro Gordo County

The Blue Heron did not disappoint! We were greeted warmly and seated and served quickly. Great menu with many options, yummy food!

5 of us ladies from WI were coming through and saw this place. We are so glad we stopped. Food was delicious and the owner and staff were so friendly. We would highly recommend this place.

We had 4 different dishes; tenderloin, classic burger, cordon blue sandwich, and chili cheese hot dog. Great food and good beer. We were welcomed quickly and had friendly service and the owner stopped to chat with us. What else can you ask for? Forgot to take a photo of the food sorry.

The service was out of this world and the food was amazing. We stopped in following a funeral and the staff was incredibly attentive and sweet. They brought colors and books for the kids and refilled drinks before we even noticed they were half gone. The food was amazing and came out hot and fresh with in 5 minutes of our order being taken. We will definitely be coming back and soon.

Our waitress was wonderful, and the entire staff was great, since we arrived close to closing time. They got us a table instead of a booth, which required pulling chairs in. The food was delicious and the servings generous.

We were traveling through and stopped for lunch. Werent sure when we pulled up..looked small and unassuming and we had a large group...including my in-laws...but WOW! So glad we stopped! Super nice customer service, fast, efficient and friendly. Didnt wait long for our food even though they were busy and the food was amazing! Would def recommend.

Great experience. Bar and grill that is obviously one of the popular places in town. Generous portions, tasty, friendly well informed and courteous staff with a good sense of humor. Glad we stopped in for lunch.

Charged twice for beers purchased at bar and with our food bill... didnt catch until back to the hotel. Purchased 1/2 order of food and received and charged for full order.

Fantastic dinner the food was so good! I had the ribeye steak sandwich with fries and it was so tasty cooked just the way I asked. We also had the shrimp Po-boy and ham and cheese sandwiches were also big hits with my dinner party! Home made potato salad was two thumbs up! Will definitely return next time I pass through town!

Amazing place! Staff was great and food is all hand batter, made from scratch delicious!!We had Green pepper rings with homemade honey mustard sauce for an appetizer and they were soooo good!!Next was 3 peice cod dinner with side salad and homemade mashed potatoes with Italian sausage gravy and Texas toast. It wasAll excellent . Please experience

I’m town from Denver, CO, visiting family. We read good reviews and decided to check it out on a chilly, rainy Saturday night. Arrived around 6:30, place was packed, waited about 15 min before a table opened up. They offered Wednesday, Friday and Saturday dinner specials on Saturday night - opted for Weds special. Steak was a great cut and well well prepared. Thai chili baked shrimp were tasty. The small red potatoes were the big surprise - so good - drizzling in buttery broth that reminded me the broth used for Norwegian potato dumplings (aka kumla). Friendly staff and great service. Will definitely be back.

I have been wanting to try the Blue heron for quite a while and finally got the chance! So happy to be in Mason City on a Saturday. I tried The fish /shrimp tacos with the Baja sauce, amazing. We also tried the hand breaded cheese balls with the in-house made barbecue sauce. Service was Very good. We will be going back!

First time making it there after alot of procrastination.... Wonderful menu & great food - very large sandwiches for a very reasonable price. Waitress were very helpful; polite & friendly. Defiantly a go again place.

Wonderful service with an attentive server and friendly staff who greeted us when we came in and when we left. The deep fried pickles are the best! Food was great, you can taste the homemade. Fun atmosphere!

The service was very attentive, polite, and happy. The food came out hot and quickly. The fried cheese balls were good and came out with the little fried crumbs. I love those. Cost was okay and several beers on tap.

What wonderful lunch we had at The Blue Heron! We are from West Des Moines and we met with our friends from Mankato - a perfect half way point. When we arrived our table for seven was ready. We were greeted by welcoming staff. Mandy showed us to our table. She efficiently moved between her tables, taking great care of of all with friendly confidence.Our sandwiches were pork tenderloins, patty melts, Blue Heron Club, French Dip and the Special: chefs choice: meatball sub. All were prepared perfectly.Vicki, the owner, chatted with us after our meal. Knowing we had driven far to meet with our friends, she invited us to stay as long as we liked to catch up. She and all her employees were gracious hosts.Thank you for a wonderful experience.👍👍👍

This place is a great joint for a burger. Ordered the Blue Heron Deluxe and was not disappointed. Beef patty with a slice of ham, bacon and an egg. Service was excellent, the bartender was knowledgeable enough on the sours she offered, and what she didnt know.. she found out. If Im ever through mason city again, this is a must stop for me.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Delicious food, friendly service. It was super busy when we stopped but well worth the wait. They were also very engaging with my chatty seven year old which made her lunch extra special. Thank you :)

My grand daughters couldnt have selected a better place to stop for a late afternoon lunch. The restaurant owner was our waitress and was very friendly. She treated us like we were "old friends". The food was great and served hot off the grill. We had batter dipped green peppers as a starter----OMG to die for!!! Thanks again and hope to make a return trip when we are in the area. Have a great rest of the summer.

Randomly drove down from Minnesota and happened across this place. Decent food overall, the fries were amazing, and prices were fair. A little more care could be taken with the drink menu and it would be nice to see drinks served in the correct glassware but I would go again.

So happy to have real home cooking! Best chicken fried steak & potatoes! The gravy had the right amout spice. Deliciousness on a plate.

We located this place doing a Google search. We were lured in by the yummy food options listed on the menu. Google maps took us on an adventure drive via a short gravel road jaunt. When we got there, we were greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated and served drinks. We chose, the Blue Heron burger with fries the Raging Cagin with house chips and the Grilled Tenderloin with red potatoes. All sandwiches had the most delicious and appetizing buns. All absolutely delicious. The homemade tater chips were a hit! Our server kept checking in to ensure were taken care of. The owner also chatted with us...so nice...thats rare anymore. Excellent place to go. Be sure to stop in.

The food was so good! And the service so friendly. We loved getting to have a nice dinner after a day of tornado chasing!

As usual the food and service was great. It was really noisy, they had a little league baseball team and their parents but we managed to enjoy our meal. We just had to talk loud to each other. The staff handled the large group and the other customers like pros. Love the Blue Heron

The fried pickles are the best, not frozen and fried buy actual spears breaded and fried fresh, they also have beyond burgers that they will substitute for any patty. Good prices! Super clean!

Almost didnt stop here as I was headed somewhere else, happened upon this place and I am so glad I did. An awesome little place and if you are going for lunch make sure you go early or late as this place gets busy.Ordered the Tuesday Special, Open Turkey Sandwich! The turkey was right off the bone, the mashed potatoes were made with real potatoes and the gravy was Superb! If I had to say something bad I would have to say I wanted more gravy!The staff was awesome and super friendly!Even if this place is out of your way then you need to change directions!

Friendly staff and great atmosphere for a fun afternoon lunch. Don’t judge a book by its cover as this is a hidden gem I found as an accidental tourist traveling through looking for a sit down meal. Highly recommend as I travel tons of places and this one is worth stopping in. If I lived within 50 miles I would make this a regular stop for sure! Great food and value too!

In town from NW IL to visit family. This placed popped up when we searched friday fish fry, had alot of high reviews and lives up to all of the 5 stars!The Deep Fried Cod was delicious, 3 Large Fillets, (i started eating before the pic, one fillet was cut in half so kinda hid it in the middleand the picture does not do justice to the baby red potatoes they were soo good! Meal came with Texas Toast and a side Salad. It was alot of food for the price.We always try to eat local and this was exactly that. Local owned, has a very welcoming family atmosphere. The service was great, she was attentive and very friendly.The owner seems to make her way around and stops and speaks to every table. Felt the pride in ownership and making sure everyone left full and happy.They speak to everyone like theyre a local regular, even when its your first visit.

Our server was wonderful. She provided great service and checked up on us throughout our meal. The thing is this place shows up as one of the best places to eat in Mason city. It is not. The food was good. We had shrimp tacos and fried green pepper rings for appetizers. The shrimp tacos were very good but over priced and very strange because you had to order and pay per taco. The green pepper rings were also very good. Like an onion ring bit with green peppers instead. This is the only place Ive ever seen them. I had the shrimp po boy sandwich it was very big and tasted good as well. My biggest issues with this place is that the have a very limited menu other than the few items Ive mentioned. Nothing else was even remotely imaginative or special. The decor and feel of the inside of the place is more like a run down dive bar than a restaurant with rave reviews and high prices.

Ordered the Firecracker Burger. Its a burger with pepper jack cheese and fried battered jalpenos. Very good if you like a spicy burger. It was delicious! Staff is friendly as always. Great food and great people.

Good stop. The staff was very good. Marcus was very helpful on menu recommendations. You can tell they care about the menu they produce and it’s not normal bar food. Parking is tight if your there at peak times. I was recommended to visit by a local business owner and the recommendation was well placed. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Blue sandwich it came hot and it was very tasty.

The food great they have beer that goes well with the dishes. Service is on point very attentive and friendly to the guest. I would recommend the fried greens peppers for appetizers theyre so good .We have the specials of the day every time ago.
