The Malted Barley in Providence County

Ive never been here before. Friends of mine I came with have come here before and liked it. I saw craft beer and I was sold. It has a nice ambiance to the place. I couldnt figure out the QR coaster for the menu... yeah, no. They have boardgames and such. Our server Heather was ✨✨MAGICAL!✨✨ I felt that way before I was intoxicated and I REALLY felt that way after, too! The kind of person you could hang out with doing ABSOLUTELY nothing and say WE HAD A TIIIIIIIIME TONIGHT...officer!!!😂I got drinks I had never drank before based on their name alone, since Kentucky Bourbon Ale is my top tier. Why get something I already know? I got a flight of Malted Barley, Magic Hands, Brett Noir and Cinnamon Toastie to start. I really liked the Malted Barley and Cinnamon Toastie. The 2nd flight I liked the Black Widow best and I think I ended up getting a fancy glass of just that alone, too after. Cant tell you more about the drinks and such, I became pleasantly buzzed and HAD to tell the manager how nice his beard was. He said he made it himself!😂 I was intoxicated, but fully aware of "Dont Be Creepy" factor. But everyone CANT GROW ONE, I respect the accomplishment!I had the Meatball Pretzel sandwich and it was a surprising taste of flavors. Wouldnt have thought to do these myself, but Im....open to it. I love meatball subs, I love pretzels, I loved this. We had a waffle with ice cream for dessert and had a great time. Yall, water is your friend. I knew before I began drinking to DRINK WATER. I was ultimately buzzed, not drunk. Will definitely return!

So delicious. I am glad I finally went. The pretzel was so soft and delicious, every piece was just flavorful and delicious and the prices were pretty good.

Salted Pretzels with Apricot butter. They need craft beer to complete the meal. Awesome joint with non-pretentious setting. Awesome stuff.

Even on a busy night with an entire event in the building, served quickly! Six of us, I ordered a Caprese Pretzel Sandwich and a drink, we were served quickly and the food was fresh, well made, and looked picture perfect!

This place is fantastic. Nice bar with a casual atmosphere. However what sets this place apart are the pretzels. They are absolutely fantastic and have me keep coming back for more.My personal favorite is the jalapeno and cheddar with the guacamole dipping sauce.They also have a pretzel waffle served with ice cream and Nutella for dessert which I also highly recommend.

A great selection of beers which didnt just include 30 different IPAs like so many brew pubs do today. The food was very good, although the menu was a little limited (but still a decent selection including salads, sandwiches, and a daily soup). The service was a bit on the slow side.

The first time visiting, cool place, clean and friendly staff. I had the salted pretzel with beer cheese and the Strawberry Rhubarb Sour. Thank you, Kolby G., for recommending the delicious sour and making it a great experience. I appreciate you answering all the questions about the area; it eased my mind about relocating to the city. A great time all around. They warn you on the menu everything is made from scratch and there is wait time because of it. I appreciated the heads up. The food was delicious, it was worth the wait.

Great New England beer list and pretzels to go with them. My husband was thrilled that there were even housemade gluten free pretzels! We had friendly service and enjoyed hanging out here for an hour.

Pretzels are amazing plain or in a sandwich, crunchy on the outside soft and steamy inside. Great flavor. We had the chicken buffalo soup and was exquisite, very creamy and not too spicy. The waffle pretzel may sound weird but its delicious, a churro like dessert with the signature pretzel dough. Overall great place for lunch or dinner.

A local favorite for students and city goers alike. Great environment and amazing beer flights. Great pretzels! My go-to downtown meet up spot any night of the week! Highly recommended.

I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop in. It was trivia night and it was fun! The waitress was such a sweetheart and made a good suggestion. I got the parmesan pretzel with the beer cheese dipping sauce and I was expecting the pretzel to taste like a typical pretzel but Im glad I was wrong, it was SO good, possibly the best pretzel Ive ever had. Stop in and give it a try. They also have delicious sandwiches, and the guy next to me ordered a meatball pretzel sandwich and raved about how good it was but he also did have a couple beers and was acting funny haha. Oh, the beers! I dont drink beer but if youre looking for a fun place with your buds to try all different types of beer, this place is for you. They have so many flavors to choose from. The menu they have online is perfect, it shows you a photo of the dish youd like to try and it has the price right next to it. I really like it here, definitely will be back.

I had an amazing BLT with Chipotle sauce and some cookie dough dip for a treat! The gluten free pretzel was very good and our server, Heather, was the best. They have great Celiac precautions, noting allergens and double checking everything, and it is brought out in a red tray. It was nice to dine outside and people watch.

The gluten free pretzels were amazing. I love pretzels I have not had one since going gluten free (allergy). This place has amazing pretzels and they turn them into sandwiches. The roast beef sandwich was really good. They are very knowledgeable regarding celiac and avoiding cross-contamination. My family had the regular pretzels and said that they were very good also. Definitely recommend this place.

Friendly staff, tasty gluten free options (try the asiago with pesto). Great beer selection. Be sure to get the banana bread ale if available. Smells like Moms kitchen.

The restaurant has tons of seating and a sizable bar as well. The salad was plated with colorful vegetables, dried cranberries, mandarin slices, etc. I shared the bowl of soup with my husband, and the soup was packed with ingredients.Flavors: 5The vinaigrette for the salad is light and perfectly complements the rest of the salad ingredients. The soup and salad comes with pretzel croutons which is awesome. It added a nice crunch to the salad. Since the restaurant has so many pretzel dishes, I thought it was really creative that they found a way to include the pretzel in their salad and soup as well. My husband ordered the pretzel stuffed with gouda and chipotle paired with the pesto aioli sauce. I tried a bite and it was delicious.The flavors were well balanced and delicious! Definitely worth going!

I had the stuffed Gouda pretzel and the sausage sandwich. The pretzel was amazing, and I’d come back just for that. Place was kind of noisy at dinner but there is also outside seating which would have been quieter. In general just really good flavors and great place.

Perfect place for pretzels and beer! Big selection of craft beer and a nice variety of pretzels. Our waitress gave good recommendations on both beer and pretzels. Try a flight and definitely get the jalapeno and cheddar pretzel with apricot butter! Chill bar with pool, indoor and outdoor seating.

Food was great, prices were very reasonable. I dont drink but my friends do, the selection was apparently fantastic. The homemade root beer was out of this world. Everything was clean, nothing to complain about.

Weve been a few times and the food is always good. Great pretzels and great beer. The cheddar bacon is probably my favorite pretzel, but the chipotle one is a close second. The most recent time we went, the cheese in half of my pretzel wasnt melted and just looked like a mini stick of cheese in the middle when I bit into it, but oh well. We tried the New England clam chowder and wouldnt order it again. It was just ok, well stick to the pretzels next time. Overall, the pretzels are delicious and the atmosphere is comfortable.

Do you want the sweet taste of America wrapped in a pretzel, well you came to the right place! This beer hall has amazing craft beers from all over, such as Holy Donut, where they craft batches of beer with flavored donuts. The establishment was clean, so clean in fact you would think the restrooms was a Fruity Pebbles factory. Come down and grab your pretzel and beer, you wont be disappointed!

Some of the best pretzels I have ever had - they remind me of ones I’ve eaten in Europe. We appreciated that their pretzels were not overly salty, since they did not use the big, white grains of salt typically found on pretzels. Impressive variety of savory and sweet pretzels. Our favorites were the plain pretzel with the beer cheese dip, the pretzel grilled cheese sandwich, and the cinnamon sugar pretzel with cream cheese dip. The ambiance and service were also great.

Took my grown-up daughter here for her birthday. This place definitely lives up to the hype! The stuffed pretzel with mozzarella and tomato was a perfect shared appetizer, and the Cali Chicken Sandwich with chipotle aioli (served on a pretzel roll, like all the sandwicheswas delicious! The sandwiches come with a bag of chips or you can substitute soup or salad for extra. No fries at this place, which is a plus. Its a beer and pretzel place!

We’ve had pretzel sandwiches here twice in a week while visiting from Florida and last night 06.29.22 we stopped in just for a drink. We ended up staying for Trivia and also had the bacon and cheese pretzel that was amazing! Great place!

Considering the fact that the Malted Barley is well known for its pretzels, you wouldnt guess that their gluten-free pretzel game is good. For an extra 50 cents, you can get any pretzel made gluten-free. It was a wonderful surprise to realize that.What was an even better surprise was the garlic and parsley pretzel with pesto dipping sauce. A lot of the options are friendly to vegan and dietary restrictions. There was a great variety to the drinks selection. The Downeast Cider that was on tap also had a bit of pineapple in it, giving it a tart flavor.This spot is located in the heart of the downtown area. Its a great place to spend a night, and combine it with some of the great things going on in the city proper!

Delicious!! The pretzel sandwiches were very tasty and the service was great! Nice outdoor seating as well. Will definitely be returning to try the dessert menu next time I’m in Providence!

Stopped here on a Monday afternoon. Loved the ambiance. Could have stayed here all afternoon. Fast and friendly service. Kid friendly. Great beer selection. Vegan pretzels. One of the best breweries I’ve been to.

What a great place to kick back and get really good food, drinks, and play Foosball. Really pleased with the gluten free pretzels and food options. We had a great time the first time and went back a second day with a friend while we were in town for the Providence marathon. I highly recommend this place for the food, service, and overall ambiance.

The malted barley was lacking, to say the least. Interesting restaurant idea but the service was absolutely terrible. The drinks came out quickly but that was it. It took 20 minutes for soup and 30 for a pretzel. There were two other tables while we were there. I asked for a re-do of the soda, because it tasted flat. After over 5 minutes of waiting, I went up to the server myself and reminded him. He clearly forgot, by his reaction. They did offer gluten free options and the food wasnt terrible. The "Hungarian" mushroom soup had too many spices.

I went at about 2pm and the first thing I noticed was how loud it was. The music was blaring. Also didnt help that there was a bunch of very young kids running around.The portion sizes are pretty small. I thought my pretzel sandwich was practical inedible due to the saltiness. I know its a pretzel spot and they are supposed to be salty but I mean this was ridiculous.Overall, if I was to return it would be later at night and just to get singular pretzels since the sandwiches leave much to be desired.

Best pretzel I have ever eaten!We happened to come across this joint and boy were we glad! This was one of the best pretzels we had ever eaten! This is a gourmet pretzel shop for sure! We ordered the chipotle and smoke gouda stuffed pretzel which was served with apricot butter. OMG! It was soooo delicious! The service was great too.

An incredible venue with a vast selection of beers (mostly from New Englandand incredibly helpful staff. The pretzels they make cannot be beat--it was suggested to us to try the jalapeno and cheddar stuffed pretzel paired with the apricot butter and it was out of this world! That combo alone will keep me coming back forever. We also had the asiago and parmesan pretzel paired with the beard cheese and for meals I had the house salad and my fellow diners had the meatball sandwich (in patty formand the burger--everything was delicious! Sadly, they were out of chicken for me to add to my salad.There are always so many beers on draft and Id like to follow The Malted Barley on Untappd to be able to see what new beers are coming in for me to try next. I noticed a large order of pretzels for catering takeout and now I know what I will be bringing to all future events. Saw a sign for trivia on Mondays at 7:00 p.m., I cant wait to go back soon to play and to try more of their pretzel options and awesome beers.

The hand made selection of different flavors of pretzels which are baked to order are amazing. Plus all their sandwichs are made with a pretzel bun. I ordered the meatball pretzel sandwich and it had so much flavor never had anything like it.They also have a great beer and wine selection along with the full service bar. The photo I added does not do it justice but still fantastic.

Wonderful gastropub! The food menu isnt overwhelming with options, and the items seem to repeat (for example, you can get a caprese as a sandwich or as a salad). The striking appeal of this place is the craft beer and pretzels; not just any pretzel, but an impressive variety of pretzels, and most sandwiches come on a sliced pretzel instead of sliced bread! Pretzels as appetizers come with a choice of dip - an impressive selection of dips! Furthermore, almost all of the brews come in 4oz - 16oz so instead of being locked into creating a flight, you can choose any number of them in any size (4 drinks in a flight here). Overall, for my first time here, I was impressed with the cozy atmosphere, tvs broadcasting sports, display of seasonal drinks, they brew their own malted barley wine which tastes great, and they serve craft beer from around the East Coast region. 5 stars for atmosphere, high quality of selection of food and drinks, and great service.

Delightful atmosphere and Exquisite food. As soon as I entered the restaurant/bar I felt the relaxed and fun vibe take over. It took me back to pre-covid times in a way. Then came my outstanding and welcoming server Haddie. She was super patient and sweet. She recommended the jalapeño cheddar stuff pretzel and I think my taste buds went to heaven. I have never had a tastier pretzel in my entire life. The pear cider was smooth and sweet. Later came the burger and chips and holy Jesus. I was skeptical because of the pretzel bun, but it was super tasty and filling. Honestly I wish I could give this place more stars! If you are looking for a place to enjoy amazing food and a good time with friends, pay this place a visit. You won’t regret it!My one suggestion is to allow folks to order fries instead of chips. Personally, I need fries to truly enjoy a burger. Then again, I understand if fries do not match the theme of the establishment.

If you happen to be out and about in Providence, RI late on a Sunday night- the Malted Barley is your place for awesome beer flights, loaded house salads, and superb sandwiches on pretzel buns. The food and the ambiance was awesome, but the service was exceptional!!!!! Well be back!!!!!

Great place with the best beer selection. Walk in not knowing what to get and you’ve got plenty of options. The staff is always super nice and accommodating. Their pretzels are out if this world. Always freshly made! Try the apricot butter and cheddar jalapeño pretzel combo.

My wife and I had the bacon cheddar stuffed pretzel. It was the best pretzel I have ever eaten!! The beer cheddar dipping sauce was awesome!The craft beers are very tasty!The prices are on the high side in my opinion. Surprisingly, one of my favorite restaurants in Providence, especially if you want something other than a traditional dinner option. The pretzels, including the gluten free varieties, are absolutely delicious and the bratwurst pretzel sandwich was better than many bratwurst I have had in Germany. Great beer selection and gluten free options, including beers. Delicious!
