Best fish hands down!
Excellent fish, the restaurant is now under new management. But that has not changed my opinion. I have met people that have driven from Michigan & Ohio and the opinion of all, is that it is worth the drive.
Great fish .large portions
Good food i took a great friend out for his 99th Birthday
Best fish around. I also enjoy the deep fried cheese burger. Quick service, great people.
Waitress was super busy being the only waitress but everyone was patient and understanding. The food is always worth the wait!
Excellent place to eat. Food is really good, especially the fish. My all-time favorite is the mushroom Swiss burger. To die for. Pretty busy on weekends, especially during the summer. One of the best places to eat around the lake
A great small town tavern with delicious food and a great view of Big Turkey Lake. They have great bartenders as well
The food is actually pretty good, but I dont think it lives up to all the hype given the price. It would be worth it if it was cheaper. That being said its more affordable and tastes much better than the fish place down the street.
Tasty generous portion fish sandwich
Food was good, the restaurant was clean and the waitress was very polite and did a good job.
The fish is great. New owners have done a good job of revitalizing this local iconic location
We thought they had a Friday all u can eat Fish Fry but they did NOT. There menu prices were too expensive. So we left.
Great fish and tartar sauce. Be sure to ask for it extra crispy.
Not bad but not great either. Atmosphere was a small town atmosphere if thats what you are into. Food was decent but not the best Ive ever had. Good for a small town. I had a side salad and a chicken sandwich
Met Indiana friends at Turkey Lake Restaurant 6/28/22. Fish was aplenty and delicious. Super nice waitress.
Good food after a few miles on the bike with the wife.
Still as good as the original and if anything is different its that the fish is chunkier than before. The fish was on point, light and fluffy. The tartar sauce alone makes it worth the drive for me. Still hits the spot!
This place is Awesome! Great food!! Hiding in Stroh lol. Hope you find it
I had chicken wings and fries. Wings were over cooked and so tough, I couldn t eat them.My guests meals were good they said.
If you’re looking for a random spot with good fish stop here. A few things you should know; it’s not a very big place, on the weekends it’s probably the busiest, from what I could tell there is one waitress. So go in knowing it might take a little bit. For us it wasn’t a big deal. I got the 4 piece fish dinner which comes with a salad, roll, and choice of one side. The salad pictured is the house salad with their house dressing, I’m not sure how to explain their dressing but it was good! Fish was excellent way more than what I needed. I could have gotten away with ordering the 2 piece meal. I would recommend stopping in and giving it a try if you’re looking for a good fish dinner!
Since the new owners have taken over its just not the same . Fish is always way to greasy and not cooked long enough 🙄. The last time we got carry out from them it was terrible, had to throw half of it away .
Fish was awesome along with tarter sause....great service
Great food nice folks I go there every time Im in Indiana the fish is better then FOS ever dared to be. Reasonable prices
We ate there and did their wine and canvas afterwards! I give them a thumbs up! Never disappointed.
Great food, relaxing atmosphere, and you couldn’t ask for friendlier people! We will definitely be back again! Keep up the great work!
Got 7 fish sandwiches to take home and it was not the same. Ive ate here my whole life and the fish was just not as good. The fish just didnt seem like it was cooked right. This was the first time I have tried it with the new owners. Its disappointing as I have had family ties to this place and if this is a sign of the future, then this place isnt going to last. Hopefully if I give it another chance that I will have a different experience.
First weve been there since the new owners took over the restaurant. Better quality fish, extra crispy breading, it was a bit greasy, but overall good fish! New owners, much improved!
The fish tasted good BUT, it was scrawny. If it had only been a piece or two I would consider it a fluke but it was several pieces of the three dinners we had.
Frequented this place years ago everyday for 5yrs. Came back to try 3 yrs ago, finding the fish(our favoritesandwiches still the best quality AND quantity! Today, however, not so much the quantity. Disappointed, as we have always drove about 45 minutes to get there. The atmosphere and courtesy was still there tho!
First time I we have ate here in years. Glad we gave it another try. The fish was outstanding as was all the food. Service was great. the new owner introduced himself to us and is a nice guy. I can see TLR becoming as popular and busy as it was in the past.
We dropped in on a Saturday, bring our first visit since the new owners took over. We were very impressed. The new featured fish bit baskets were huge and the recipes for the fish and salads have not changed. The food was hot and ready when we picked it up and the prices have even improved. Keep up the good work!
The fish sandwich was absolutely delicious! Gabi, our server, was really busy but still did an amazing job! Highly recommend this place!
My Mom worked at Turkey Lake restaurant and tavern back in the late 70’s early 80’s for the Rugg’s when they owned Turkey Lake Tavern. We ordered take out tonight after not eating here for 30 years as we live out of state. Nothing has changed! Our dinner was awesome! Thanks for keeping everything the same!
Go for the fish dinner w/fries...tarter sauce is bomb! We bought some to take home.Ice cold beers! Our waitress was very nice, and the service was quick.Unfortunately, my Dad said the ribs were over sauced and tough to eat.
Ive been going here for decades, and always looked forward to eating there. But lately the batter for the fish has been different. I refused to pay because the fish was terrible! The changes they made in the batter is a MASSIVE disappointment. I will never eat there again as a result. Definitely not what it was - especially for the money.
That was the worst meal for 2 that cost me $42.00 . The fish does not have the same coating it had for years, it is more like cornflakes that you would put on chicken. The fries are different and the tarter sauce has changed. The only thing that was the same was the house salad and the fountain drink. I will not go back
Best fish and you get so much it is worth the price
Terrible! Every piece of our fish was not even a piece. Used to be a very good place. No love or thought or cooking skills any more at this place. Who never returned. Feel very sorry for them. Especially after having fish at the place we had today, which was a remarkable!
Pretty decent for an area tavern / eatery. Fish is thick and the batter is wonderful. The tartar sauce is second to none. If you are a diabetic, I would skip the tartar sauce because its mainly sugar.
Always been my favorite place until today. If you didn’t have enough fish you should have told us an we would order at another time. Instead we got what looks like are scraps! Not one piece of actual fish and 1/4 cup of lettuce and charged 40 something.wiw!
Was looking for a fish fry on Friday. Found you on a google search. Cod was great and 2 nice size filets, came with salad , roll and fries. Had a couple of ice cold Coors beers and desert to finish the night.
Excellent fish! Unless you are really hungry the 2 piece special will be plenty. Tartar sauce and house salad dressing are great.
Poor service. The oil for the deep fryer needed change. The shrimp was the pop com shrimp not a shrimp dinner. Waited a long time to get serviced and waited along time for our food. The sample platter was very small one onion ring on the whole plate. Will not go back.
We were really looking forward to the trying this place and especially the fish tonight....the prices were outrageous! A two piece cod meal of wafer thin underseasoned fish, fries and bowl of lettuce for $13.50. Not to mention it took over 40minutes for two sandwiches and the 2 piece dinner. Terribly, terribly disappointed!!
Havent been here in a year or two. My wife ordered the fish sandwich and I ordered the fish only dinner. It was rather expensive but they do bring out a pile of fish. We both thought the service was good but the fish just didnt have the flavor it used too. Both of us salted it more to try to bring out the flavor. The place did seem a lot cleaner though.
The 4 piece fish dinner is very filling. In fact its really enough food for 2 people. Its a modest salad, the fish, a big size pile of french fries, and a dinner roll. It does however come with a rather hefty price, $17.99 and a longer than usual wait time. But if you want great tasting fish, done perfectly with a slight crunch to the breading, this IS the place (if you can find it).
I live right down the road from this place and have been coming here, on occasion, my entire life! I love the people, love the service, and the food makes the experience out of this world. Im not a fish eater but I could eat their fish sandwiches everyday for the rest of my life and never complain! And that tarter sauce....I could drink it! its a small town restaurant with a very big taste! If you have not tried it....you have not tasted the best of the best!
Updated from 3/22/2015 Visit: Got some fish sandwiches and tarter sauce to go and was pleased as always that the fish tasted the same. The fish tasted fresh as always and did not have that frozen and thawed taste to it. I am always amazed at how good this is, for the past 9 months I have been eating fish from "below standards" fast food and other restaurants and NOTHING compares to the fish here. Yes I did have to wait about 30-40 minutes for the food but it was WELL worth the wait. 5/5 starts still. My family has a cottage on Big Turkey Lake and weve been coming here for the past 30+ years. The thing that makes the tavern so great is hands down the fish dinners and the fish sandwiches. And as amazing as the fish is.. the tarter sauce is even better, I spent the better part of a month trying to make a sauce that matched what is sold here, but failed in my every attempt. To say it is good is an injustice to this sauce, it is so great it should be classified as divine. Now I have hooked my wife and kids on the wonders of the Turkey Lake Tavern and as long as the building stands my family and future generations to come will return for the fish and sauce and the great memories it creates,Thank you Turkey Lake Tavern for never changing and always coming through with a winning tradition. Just talking about the tarter sauce and fish makes my mouth water.
