The Churicahua mountains are amazing. The people at this gift shop are very helpful and pleasant.
It was awesome, great trail and views. We had a great time, clean and very safe.
Long drive through barren desert to get there. It is really in the middle of nowhere. Then you arrive in an oasis of pine and fir trees and monolithic outcroppings that are truly otherworldly. It is a site to behold. Nice gift shop and small campground that requires reservations. No food or gasoline services.
My daughter took me here for Mothers Day. It is a very unique experience.
Amazing. That is the word that sums up this majestic National Monument. No fee for entry, there is camping but MAKE reservations, they fill up fast. Fantastic visitors center with helpful staff to give information on the area and suggest the right hike for any level. Speaking of trails, they have one for every level. They are well marked and good information is provided at each trail head. The views are spectacular. A must see, it’s worth the drive.
Beautiful place. Saw a Diamond Back baby rattlesnake, awesome! Enjoyed the visitors center & hiking trails. So worth the trip!
Absolutely one of the best places to visit when in southern Arizona! Looks like the land before time, at any minute dinosaurs will peak around the corner. Amazing history here. Fantastic on motorcycle.
Helpful staff..good source of drinking water in the area
A must to stop in before and after the hike around the mountain.
Really interesting place. The rock formations are a must see.
Nice visitor center, full of information for the chiricahua national monument. Dont go looking for information about the rest of the Coronado National Forest Douglas ranger district. They do have one good map of the Coronado Forest thats the standard $14 map. Beware and check their website as lots of trails and campgrounds are often closed for maintenance or other reasons. The gift shop is really nice and I thought reasonably priced stuff for the most part.
We picked up lots of gifts for our family here and an excellent reminder of the beauty and awesomeness of this national park. Lots of hiking trails and a beautiful auto road to the top makes this place a must see. And dont feed the Coatimundi!!
No entrance fee and happy park rangers. Great trails for all physical abilities.
Hey Gang, here are some shots I took on a trip over to the Chiricahua National Monument E. Bonita Canyon Rd, From the visitors center take Bonita Canyon Dr. all the way to the very top where you can take several short hikes that give a magnificent view of the hoodoos that are just like being in a different world. There are some really cool hikes that you can explore as you go up and down the Scenic Drive. Be sure and make the Visitor Center your first stop and you will get plenty of ideas as to which hikes (if any, you may just want to look at the beauty around youwould suit your abilities and desires. You need to stop at the Faraway Ranch Historic District on your way in or out and see how life was lived back in the day. They also have a nice campground. Enjoy and Safe Travels
Unbelievable beauty. We are wheelchair people so hiking is not an option. The drive still lets you see the essence of the park. Arriving at the top of the mountain gave us the view of a lifetime. Vistas were stunning and the late afternoon sun lit up the snow capped distant peaks. We should have had a bit more clothing as it was windy and very cool. I believe this is on of the most underrated parks in the country. Utah has nothing in Chihuahua National Monument for stunning landscapes and vistas.
Beautiful and amazing views. Worth the trip.
Not to be missed. One of the most spectacular is most spectacular examples of mother natures wild imagination.
This is a place of spectacular beauty! Wonderful hikes, great views, friendly rangers. If youre anywhere near this on a trip put it on your list.
Breathtaking views from the top but lovely drive around the mountain as well! Be sure to bring your jacket because it can get chilly up there!
Unique and beautiful. Loved seeing the unusual rock formations, lots of trees, and Mexican jays. The drive through the park is easy and has pullovers. There are many trails, but we didnt have time for hiking.
Definitely worth a visit. A short hike sees green, lichened rocks precariously perched all around. A stunning piece of natural history. Pictures dont do it justice.
Arrived at the visitor center after a 2 1/2 hour drive from Tucson. It was raining when I arrived. The attendant was so friendly and helpful. She recommended the Echo Canyon Trail and that the weather may improve in a few hours. I held out in a parking lot, took a cat nap and when I woke up, the rain stopped. The trail was prehistorically awesome, with the fog that had rolled in. I was speechless at the Groto then made my way downward to Echo Park , then continued the loop. Totally worth the trip!
Wonderful and magical place! Rhe views are absolutely stunning! The visitors center is a fun and educational place and the staff is helpful and friendly! Recommend!!!
Wonderful place! Fabulous scenery and hiking.
Small, but nice visitors center with plenty of parking. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is also access to some trail heads nearby.
AMAZING park and natural landscapes. The trail signs could improve, though.
Love it here. Its a nice little weekend trip from Tucson. The Heart Of Rocks trail is really nice when the weather is about mid 70s to lower 80s.
Although I got sun burnt...my fault... it was a great and not difficult hike. Unreservedly recommend.
Excellent Monument. Well signed and maintained trails. Good hiking options. Lovely little camp ground. Helpful. Well worth a full days hiking.
Very scenic. Nice paths to hike. The signs are very informative.
One of the most beautiful places that Ive been to. And its free for daily use. The park is rather small. Two day visit is probably all you need to take on most best of the trails. You can also drive through and stop along the way to take pictures (you will be coming back on the same roadThe most scenic trail there is, in my opinion, the Echo Canyon trail (the first part of it; up to the point marker ).
It was snowing when we visited, but the trails were still accessible, which made our experience something different but still beautiful. This monument rather should be a national park. What great views and historical scenes it offers!
Beautiful place! So glad these places are protected so people can visit and enjoy! Friendly an helpful ranger at visitor center and gift shop. Off the beaten path, but worth the effort.
Loved this National monument. Really a step above and should be a National Park.
Nice hiking path with plenty of lush nature and picture locations. Downside the road was closed so the only way up was to hike.
First of all, if youre not enjoying the natural wonders, go see them! Second, Chiricahua was one of those places I saw a photo of and was instantly drawn to! I built an entire solo road trip around visiting this place! But I digress. Lets talk Chiricahua. Its free. There is a long desert highway and cool wind (depending on season), and picturesque views as you drive to get there. And its free to enter. Did I mention that? The visitor center has clean flushing restrooms, the rangers are super nice and friendly, and the gift shop isnt ridiculously overpriced. We drove the scenic drive, hoofed it around Massai point, made a few roadside stops to take in the views, all before the sun went down. Ill definitely be back to stay at the campground and do a few days of hiking for more sights!
What an awesome place to spend a day. The rock formations were terrific. A great gem of a federal monument. Echo Canyon, 3.6 mile walk was the best.
Easily a tip 5 place to go to for AZ wilderness. A prehistoric volcanic cauldron? There are like 3 awesome words in that sentence.
We got a late start but got these amazing pix on our way up to the top.
Very good experience at the visitor center. We had a nice short hike at Massai Point and the Faraway Ranch. Beautiful unique rock formations.
This place is awesome. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Its beautiful, epic landscapes, and the staff working is some of the friendliest I have ever come across. I saw plenty of wildlife. If you are a birdwatcher, this place is amazing. I saw turkey, tons of deer, even a coatimundi. Oh and squirrels too. This place is beautiful, very little people and the campground has some of the nicest sites I have seen. I will definitely be back.
An absolute gem in the middle of nowhere. Absolutely worth the drive from Tucson. This little monument has some of the coolest rock formations I’ve ever seen.
I found the perfect place to sit and enjoy the scenery. This place is amazing, leave no trace of yourself because its a keeper.
Spent the month exploring Central to South Eastern Arizona and this was the highlight of the trip for me! Absolutely amazing rock formations and great hiking. There is a shuttle from the visitors center to the top of the monument where you can then hike down, a 6-10 mile hike depending on the route you take. Campground was basic but really nice with flush toilets and water spread throughout the camp.
This national monument is off the beaten track, but it is well worth the effort to get there. Originally the homelands of the Chiricahua Apache, they called it "the place where the rocks stand up," and if you go, youll see amazing vertical rock formations standing like sentinals.
I am a big fan of this monument, and adjoining Wilderness and National Forest areas. It was my favorite when I lived in the southwest. April is the peak month, but I have camped there in mid-March and experienced evenings around 40 F ( 5 C), which is good enough for me. At one seminar when asked I said it was my favorite vacation destination, while other people were naming beach resorts (Ha!). I hope to visit here again soon. I bought some souvenirs and maps at the visitor center, but spent most of my time on the nearby trails. They also have relevant books for sale.
Great park with amazing views anywhere you go! We are definitely coming back soon to do more trails! The ranger in the visitor center was extremely helpful on which trails to do with our time constraint. Made for a wonderful day trip!
The National Monument was very interesting. Lower grade to the center. I went in on a Saturday and after a 1:20 hr ride walk into the center. The only two ladies behind the counter were busy listening to an older lady small talk and left me standing there for many m8nutes. I finally gave up and left. Some people forget who pays the bills and their salaries at Ntnl Parks, they should have the highest customer service standards and unfortunately it seems they have entitlement instead.
This was a place I was not expecting to be anywhere near as inspiring and impressive as it was. It is a long ways from anywhere, but so well worth visiting. You are not expecting this kind of mountain scenery in southeastern Arizona. It is gorgeous, cool, and green. The rock formations are incredible. So well worth visiting.
Arguably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Absolutely stunning. And the visitor center is nice.
