Ordered fish slice beehoon and pig trotter beehoon. First time in my life eating fish beehoon with SO many bones, literally every slice had at least 1 long bone in it. Pig trotter beehoon was quite surprising with barely any meat at all! Counted total 3 slivers of some skin+fat. Totally not worth $10 hahaBut saving grace is the taste of everything is not bad, quite flavorful just on the saltier side but for the amount you spend here (at least for the pig trotter beehoonI rather get bigmac meal upsize with milo
Small but have great cosy place for a quick meal or drink.
Meat tenderiser was quite heavily use. Dun have much flavour left on the meat relied on the savoury gravy and sauce. The beehoon was another disaster. The beehoon is crispy but the soya sauce was not evenly stir in soParts was very salty and burnt . The big chunks of bacon with nai bai was a waste. Over all the dishes was more on a salty note . Serving of food was very slow on such a small weekday crowd. Last dish was served when we finish our dishes ?
Can eat but not nice… fish maw soup taste like salty hot water . Chao da bee hoon no wok hey its literally chao da. Beancurd tofu… the nicest dish but still lose many zichar outside… i tried dabao before the stsndard not bad so wanted to give it try eating there… but this time round so disappointing
Great place 👌 for Chillj pork Rice set
When ordering noodles, they are very stingy with the amount of prawns given, I ordered $5 noodles and only 2-3 very small "frozen shrimps" were given (how can you not provide basic prawns being a seafood eatery! For the main prawn dishes sometimes the big prawns are not even peeled and devein properly. Please improve on the feedback given, I would like to come back as the staff have always been nice to me.
Out there somewhere in joo seng but it was good
not selling cigarettes anymore , say licence expired
The food served was horrific. Most watery salted egg chicken in SG.
I recently celebrated my birthday with a group of friends at this XLL seafood restaurant. Restaurant was recommended by a friend (who is a frequent customerbut this was my first visit. We ordered black pepper crabs, fried chicken wings, vegetables, beef horfun and several other dishes. We enjoyed the dishes very much. The chili crabs on takeaway for my family was also very good. Ambience feels like in Malaysia. Recommend this restaurant if you want good and affordable local dishes.👍🏻
The chilly pork rice and the barbecue pork..tender and delicious ..and the friendly staff..
Food not bad if you like Tze Char fare. They were nice enough to let us drink our own whiskey there.
surprisingly good!!!didnt expect it at the beginning.the beehoon portion are generous and they gave us a lot of stuff inside.will come here again for sure
Nice delicious za cai fan was served.
Wow...The food is unexpectedly amazing..The curry was good. The vegs was fresh and tasty...
So many bone in salted egg chicken.. portion is small.. no meat.. either bones or chunky flour...The salted egg part is watery and sweet..taste really weak..
Some dishes are good while others are forgettable. The noodles including hor fun is good! Has that strong wok hei flavour.
The mix rice stall is good, many choices but i think their prices are very inconsistent and always seems to get pricier day by day.
Good for staples like fried rice, hor fun and simple dishes.
My neighbourhood go-to place for Tze Char. Do note you can call in to place order around 5pm but restaurant will only start cooking around 6pm. They will call you when the food is ready if you intend for self-pickup so you dont have to wait there for long.
My all time favourite is their curry fish head, chili fish, baby sotong, black pepper crab, smelly bean and so many more.. Cant wait to go back again
After the new owners took over, the food is really nice and affordable now. Do try their 辣子鸡, personal favorite!
Overall it’s just a very regular run of the mill neighbourhood zichar. I don’t have very high expectations but the dishes were still a little weak. First, the hot plate tofu arrived in an unspectacular fashion. Not sizzling like the usual. Furthermore, there were only small shrimps in the dish with no vegetable at all. The kai lan was blend and old. The only saving grace was the salted egg pork ribs. However, that’s one dish that’s pretty much impossible to fail. It’s alright if you would like to just fill your stomach with a quick dinner.
Proper neighbourhood zhi char serving the residents of the area. Almost every dish is good, something you wouldnt expect for a small neighbourhood restaurant like this.Petai, fried long beans, salted egg chicken, spicy mala popcorn chicken are all good dishes. Affordable too. Popular with locals and gurkhas in the area
Non existent service. I ordered food from this restaurant through Deliveroo with a suggested delivery time of 15-35min. Yet my food didn’t arrive after an hour and when I checked with Deliveroo no delivery order was submitted though my order was accepted by this restaurant. Totally irresponsible if the restaurant was not keen in fulfilling the order it could have cancelled or not accepted the order. It is my first and last time ordering from this place. If I could choose i would put a zero star for my review but the review can only be posted with a minimum of one star.
Corner coffee shop always changing tenant.. Theres a very good fish soup stall in the midst of current mix of stalls..
Good food
Worst Zi char I’ve had. Mee goreng was filled with MSG. I’m usually not sensitive to MSG but Could taste it writhing the first few mouthfuls.Fish hor fun was extremely bland and watery.Did the Chef add seasoning twice to my mee goreng instead of the hor fun? Who knows. A tad bit pricier than a regular zi char place. Will not be coming back here.
Had a lot of fun with friends drinking beer and eating seafood - prawns, delicious hot crabs, and squid grilled here!
Nice traditional dining experience.. very rare for Singapore now. Good reasonable pricing!
Tried the warm porridge they advertise and it did not disappoint! I love the balanced taste of saltiness, spice, and herbs. Good for dine in with groups.
The one I loved the most was the giant crab in yellow sauce. Just right saltiness and flavour. Can eat without rice!
Big fan of their garlic-filled crab dish with so much spices! Simple humble seafood dining place but really good!
All ingredients are fresh and you know it’s cooked by fine chefs. The waitresses, although few, work fast and are very kind too!
Much better value than Riverside porridge restaurants! Instead of paying extra in premium location, better to eat quality porridge here at a cheap price and still have a relaxing atmosphere.
Good seafood dishes at economical price considering the service and big serving. Tried their frog porridge and a few seafood dishes like crab in pepper sauce and crab in coconut milk. So far, all are good. The only down side is that it could be kind of hot when the restaurant gets too crowded.
Great place for lunch and dinner. Staff are friendly and comprehensive menu to select. A place for the whole family.
I love their open air setup, many tables for customers, and happy atmosphere in the whole place. Favourite in the menu is crab in coco milk and spicy frog porridge.
Very tasty porridge and seafood dish! Something you won’t expect from a humble open air dining place like this. Went here on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant is not crowded at all, the waiters are very polite, and my favourite is their porridge served hot with lots of flavours!
If you just want to chill out or have a relaxing date in an affordable place, I recommend xinlailai. Don’t expect very beautiful and expensive plates or stylish serving. But they give big portions of food.
Big serving of delicious seafood. My favourite would be their prawns, amazing taste they were. I was surprised by the good food quality and service of this place because it doesn’t look fancy on the outside.
Their frog porridge is a must-try! Also had some vegetables here with tasty seasonings. Menu here is on the cheap side that’s why it’s a great place to eat heavy meals any day of the week.
Highly recommended! Very simple place with a few items on the menu. Not too fancy restaurant but it has a calming and relaxed atmosphere. The servers are very attentive and friendly and they serve the food in a few minutes.
We had some drinks here.. and washed the beer and sugar away with their warm frog porridge. I must say this is a legit porridge restaurant! Next time I’ll their seafood ;)
Service is prompt, great place for live seafood, fresh frog porridge & other dishes. Highly recommend! 👍
What a treat. Flavourful frog porridge at a cheap price. The place looks very humble but the service is great.
Happy and festive atmosphere here. I love the open air. If you’re looking for seafood at a fair price but gives you value for money, you’ll love this restaurant.
Friendly staff and chill ambiance here at Xinlailai. The restaurant has many tables for customers and it’s an open area that’s why we enjoyed the atmosphere so much. It’s a great place to hang out, not to mention that their food is delicious, served in big portions, and the price is affordable. Must-try!
Particularly love their BBQ Sotong. Open until late night that’s the best for me.
Used to manage by a irresponsible owner with cockroaches & rats running around. 😱After new owner took over, whole coffee shop become so much cleaner & hygiene. He really put in lots of efforts not only to his business but our environment too, a big salute to him. Stalls: rojak, mixed vegetables rice, fishbowl noodle, wanton noodle, chicken rice, fish soup, frog proddige, live seafood & Zhi Char. Highly recommended!
